Thursday

A person’s wisdom yields patience;

it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

~Proverbs 19:11~

Josiah Huckaby, son of Job and KK

Josiah is 5 months old as of yesterday…he has been doing really well. They decided to put a nephrostomy tube in on Friday to drain one of his kidneys because of an obstruction from a kidney stone. His other kidney has an obstruction that will require reconstructive surgery in the future. The tube ended up coming out on Sunday & they were going to have to replace it on Monday. They decided to do another ultrasound to see how that kidney was looking…and PRAISE GOD it has improved enough that they won’t have to replace the nephrostomy tube for now. As of right now, the goal is to wean his oxygen down to home settings so that we can start discussing coming home. He has been staying awake all day (he can’t stand to miss any of the action) & sleeping all night…hope he keeps that up. 😉 He loves kicking his feet constantly while he’s awake & he’s starting to smile again! He also loves sitting up & watching people. He wiggles so much the nurses are always having to make sure he hasn’t wiggled to the bottom of the bed…they are constantly having to scoot him back up. Day 155 in the NICU has been an awesome day for Josiah! God is so good!!!

Mrs. Mimi Sneed was able to go home from a friend’s house where she was staying.  She did have to go for more medical tests yesterday, but the results were good.  Pray for her as she recovers from her accident.

Bettye Fussell is moving ahead to her next round of treatment which will begin Monday.  Pray for her to have strength and endurance for this phase of her “battle”.  She certainly has faced this journey with a positive attitude.  Keep her in your prayers.

Thank-you for praying for Jennie as she traveled.  She’ll be able to speak to many of you at church Sunday or the following Sunday.

Mrs. Ruth Cutrer asked us to pray for Rev. Toby Miller, who formerly led the music program at Spring Creek Baptist Church.  Bro. Toby is in St. Tammany Hospital recovering from surgery.

Mr. J.D. Smith was able to return home yesterday because his shoulder has healed sufficiently for him to be “on his own” again.  Let’s pray for him and for Donna’s family as they adjust to the change.

Mr. Don Clemons will be having surgery at St. Tammany Hospital this morning.  I know the Clemons family believes in the power of prayer.  Let’s pray as God leads the doctors this morning in the surgery.

Mrs. Evelyn Bridges has been moved to St. Helena Nursing Home.  I pray she and her faithful family make a good adjustment to her move.

Daron Fontz, Jill Brister’s brother, continues to need our prayers as he fights cancer.  As you pray for peace and comfort for him, pray for the family to have peace and assurance too.

Please pray for my sister, Julie, as she flies to Atlanta where she will meet up with family there and then drive with Mallory to Kentwood tomorrow.

Operation Christmas Child (OCC) is progressing nicely at FBC, Kentwood.  Many of you bring in items yesterday.  You can leave your items in my classroom or in the tote under the stairwell to the balcony.  Thank you for your help.  Packing the shoeboxes for all the children would not be possible without you.  Please shop for pencils and pens this week.  The following week we will be purchasing $1.00 calculators which can be found at Walmart and the dollar stores.  You are making a difference!!!

“Into My Heart” – I’ll leave you with this song, which is a prayer for each of you who have not already allowed Jesus you reside in your heart.

Mrs. Bettye Fussell is moving on with a great attitude.  Her doctors are working together to determine the plan.  Bettye is positive and encouraging.  What a blessing she is to our community!

Read the Bible – Malachi 3-4 and Psalm 64

I hope you will be attending your church today.  If not, choose one and attend.  Of course, asking a friend if you can go with them is always a good option.  The point is to get up and go.  You will be blessed.

The youth from FBC, Kentwood had a progressive supper followed by swimming last night.  The attendance was good.  All seemed to be having a great time.  Thanks to the adults who made it possible.

Operation Christmas Child – What a blessing to go into a store to purchase items for OCC shoeboxes and see a Sunday School member shopping for items for shoeboxes, to have messages about what someone has purchased, but will not be able to turn in until next week, or to walk into the church and find bags of items someone dropped off for us. This is a major project that takes many hands and many hearts.  I’m so thankful for all those who participate and do so over and over to help collect the many items we will need.

From K.K. Huckaby:

Well…Josiah has been in the NICU for 147 days now. Doesn’t seem like it’s been that long but then again it does. 😊 He has made some major improvements over the last week. He was taken off the vent Friday & put on CPAP! Yay!!! Also, he’s been weaned off quite a few of his medications. God is so good and we can’t praise Him enough for what He’s done so far & continues to do!!!

Brandon Toney, the son of Dale and Sandy Toney, is much better.  Thank-you for praying for him.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon is still at North Oaks Rehab.  Please pray for her to regain her appetite.

Operation Christmas Child – This week we are collecting pencils and pens.  Next week we will be collecting the $1.00 calculators.  I’ve seen them on sale, so you may want to buy some of them while they are on sale.  Also, this weekend, shopping will be tax free, so you may want to shop ahead on our list.  Other items we will be collecting include bandanas (Dollar Tree – 2 for $1.00), hair brushes (Dollar Tree $1.00)), small flashlight, about 4-5 inches (packages of 10 at Walmart).  Buy two sets of batteries for each flashlight.  Bars of soap and washcloths will also be on our list.  I haven’t checked prices, but you be the judge for yourself.  I hope you are enjoying shopping as much as I am!

Miss Fay Shoemaker is back at home in Kentwood after a stay in the hospital in New Orleans.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Mrs. Estelle Raborn is also back at home in Kentwood.  As you pray for her, please pray for her faithful caregiver, her husband.

Pray for Andy Taylor as he has hand surgery this morning in McComb.  Pray for Betty as she also is a very faithful caregiver.

Read the Bible – Daniel 10-12 and Psalm 58

Thank-you to all who brought highlighters for Operation Christmas Child.  We will be collecting small glue sticks next Sunday.  I added a box under the stairwell steps for those who find it inconvenient to come to my classroom, but delivery to my classroom before Sunday School will still be an option.  I know we will have sufficient notebooks, but will check on other items and post their status periodically.  Each item you bring is greatly appreciated and will make some child very thankful.  Remember, the shoeboxes are an opportunity to share Jesus with the children.  Also, remember we will be collecting donations to help pay the shipping for the boxes.  The packing party will be the first Saturday of November.  Plan to be there to share the joy and excitement.

Friday morning Bible study will focus on Ezekiel 19 this week.

Start this week off right by checking on someone.  Both of you will be blessed!  It was certainly a sweet time when we share all the many names of those who are sick last night.  I trust each of you will make some visits….

Just wanted to up date you on my second phase of my journey with ovarian cancer. We went to Ochsner Baptist in N.O., Thursday the 27th for my surgery. As some of you may already know, it didn’t turn out like we were expecting. Dr. Estes removed my right ovary, but could not remove my left one because of a tumor that was attached on my left ovary to my colon & that would have led to lots of complications. So now after I get over the surgery, I will have another phase of chemo to go through !! The first chemo did good, but did not completely take care of all the cancer cells….. we are heartbroken, but I know God will get me through this devastating journey one more time!! I appreciate all of your prayers that you have sent my way that have meant so much to me, so I am asking you for your continued prayers through these next few months!! Love each one of you ! God Bless!! ❤️ 7-28-17

I am in need of my prayer warriors!
Ms. Evelyn Bridges suffered a stroke on Friday the 14 th! The Tulane doctors removed a blood clot from her brain and she stayed in ICU for 4 days! She is currently in Hammond at United Medical Rehab!
We do not know what the future has in store however she is alert and in a happy place in her mind! She has to have moderate to maximum assistance with all everyday activities! We are just praying that this will get better with time! Thanking you in advance for your prayers!
Sorry haven’t posted before now!
But until you deal with something like this ( and I pray you never do)
You can’t understand the life changes and everything that goes along with it!
Love to all!

Posted by the family of Rod Smith of Laurel, MS:

On April 24, 2017 at approximately 3:30 in the morning, Rod had a rare stroke originating near his brain stem. Although most strokes affect either the left or right side of the body, this one affected both. He has paralysis on the left side of his face, affecting his speech and vision. He is unable to close his left eye which must remain covered with a patch. The patch, accompanied by double vision, makes it difficult for him to see and affects his depth perception. The muscles in his throat used for swallowing are paralyzed as well and he can’t swallow at all. He receives all medications and five daily feedings through a tube in his stomach.  Due to partial paralysis on the right side of his body he can no longer walk without aggressive aid.

Overnight, his life and that of his wife and family changed dramatically. Before the stroke, he was leading an active life. Running his bee hives, supporting his family, and aggressively working in his ministry as he has done most of his life. He has a long road to recovery ahead but he is dedicated to persevere with the help of God’s grace!

NEWS FLASH:

Hallelujah!!! The bathroom is completed thanks to each & everyone of you that have blessed Rod to be able to bathe daily! You can’t imagine how much this one project has helped him. We love & thank you so very much!
