“I have learned to be content

whatever the circumstances.”

~Philippians 4:11 NIV~

Mr. Harlon Toney has been hospitalized in Lacombe again.  He should be able to come home today.  Pray for Mr. Harlon.

Yesterday, I saw the lady I delivered the Christian magazines to so she can use them in the jail ministry.  She was thrilled with the literature you helped me collect.  She said they usually have up to 15 inmates to come to “prayer time”.  Thursday, they had about 40!  She was thrilled.

Now she has an additional request.  She said the inmates want Bibles.  If you have any old ones you can share or if you want to purchase some new ones, she would be blessed to share them there.

The training for Operation Christmas Child Saturday was very informative and encouraging.  I was glad to have been a part of the event.  Thanks to all who attended and will participate in a Drop-Off Station.

Two Rivers Baptist Association will hold their annual senior adult revival beginning this morning.  Today, we will meet at FBC, Kentwood at 9:00 for fellowship and choir practice.  The service will begin at 10:00 and will be followed by lunch.  Rev. Rusty Durand from Montpelier will be the speaker today.  I hope many of you will be able to attend.

The Lord’s Day!

But love your enemies,

do good to them,

and lend to them

without expecting to get anything back.

Then your reward will be great,

and you will be children of the Most High,

because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.

Please continue to  pray for the Schwartz family.
David and I have several friends whom we are praying for.  We would appreciate you praying too.

Wednesday

For if you remain silent at this time,

relief and deliverance for the Jews

will arise from another place,

but you and your father’s family will perish.

And who knows

but that you have come to your royal position

for such a time as this?”

~Esther 4:14~

(This verse about Esther could also apply to us.  I was recently invited to attend a Bible study on Esther, but declined because I have already done the study and I have some schedule complications.  This verse reminds me of times when we are placed in certain situations for a particular reason.  Think about it.  Read Esther.)

Justin Lambert is making progress.  This report is from day 111 following the accident.  If you see Sharon Birch or Rachel Buckley, they can give you a more complete update on their nephew.

Justin has been making some wonderful improvements. Justin can now feed himself, partially dress himself, brush his own teeth, pull himself up in the bed, TALK, and has started walking at therapy. He still doesn’t have 100% function in his right leg but they put a brace on it and with their help he walks! He has walked as far as 52 feet which was 76 steps 😍 I have seen my husband smile more in the past few days than I have in what seems like an eternity.

Pray for Jimmy and Ruby Schwartz.  His heath has declined requiring more daily care for him.

Pray that the religious literature being delivered to the jail in Amite tomorrow will touch the lives of those who receive it.  Thank God for those who collect and distribute it.  If you have some religious magazines or Bibles, I will get them in the proper hands.  Thanks to those of you who brought items in recently.  I have a trunk full of magazines to take tomorrow.  Other than Bibles, the cannot accept books.  Think paperback.

Jeana Lee Newton’s long, complicated surgery at Ochsner was successful.  Some of you have personally told me you are praying for her.  Keep it up.  Jeana’s family says she is better now than she has been in a long time.

The Georgia Barnette Offering at FBC, Kentwood has reacher 47% of our goal.  Let’s make our goal and surpass it.

Any church or organization filling “shoeboxes” for Samaritan’s purse needs to be reminded that they suggest a donation of $7.00 per box to pay for shipping and for literature that is added to introduce each child to Jesus.  I was blessed to meet a lady, Pricilla, Tuesday who works for Samaritan’s Purse.  She was very encouraging.

Older children, youth, and adults are invited to help fold the flat shoeboxes into their finished shape on October 10th.  You can come at 9 A.M or at 6 P.M.  We’ll have a chair and a table ready for you to work.  Like so many other things, lots of people and lots of steps are involved.  You can also come and draw a picture in the boxes for us.  Think how blessed the children will feel to have special artwork/Christian message just for them.

FBC, Kentwood will be a drop-off location for shoeboxes November 14-21.  There will be a training opportunity Saturday, October 1 from 10 – noon.

Children in Action will meet at 6 P.M. tonight to pack the pencil boxes/pouches for the “shoeboxes”.  There will be lots of excitement as the children get to help with the shoeboxes for the third time this year.  If you are available, come watch and “catch the spirit”.  Adults are always invited to visit and learn what we are doing.

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise,

as some understand slowness.

Instead he is patient with you,

not wanting anyone to perish,

but everyone to come to repentance.

You can see a drop-off location at the beginning of the journey.  That will be what we will be doing this year.  It’s the first step after your shoeboxes leave your homes and churches.  The main point of shoeboxes is the last step, getting them into the hands of little children!

We are only seven weeks away from serving as a drop-off location.  Get your boxes packed and ready to go!

We will celebrate a cowboy church service tonight during our missions time.  Round up your cowboys and cowgirls, get them dressed in their western duds, and hustle them over to  FBC, Kentwood at 6 P.M. tonight.

Operation Christmas Child – We are coming close to having all the items we need for our shoeboxes.  I have counted and counted again.  If you would like to purchase something, please give me a call.

  • Our Packing Party will be at 6 P.M., Saturday October 29th.  Everyone is invited to participate.
  • Samaritan’s Purse has invited FBC, Kentwood to become a collection/relay site for other churches to bring their boxes to a church closer to their own churches.  Northern Tangipahoa did not have a site, so we will do our best to help in this way too.
    • We will have a training session Saturday, October 1st at FBC, Kentwood from 10 A.M. – Noon.  Feel free to join us and sign up to help during collection week.
    • Collection week is November 14-21.  Then, the boxes will be taken on the the next step of their journey.  Eventually, they will arrive in the hands of boys and girls all around the world.  Each box will contain the items you pack plus some literature about Jesus in the language of the children who will be receiving the boxes.  Then, the children will have the opportunity to attend classes, similar to our Sunday School classes, to learn more about Jesus.  Just think, a box you help pack may be instrumental in leading them to a Christian life and an eternity in heaven one day.

The monthly “Young” Ladies Birthday Party will be Tuesday, September 27th at The Cafe at 11 A.M.  Join us if you are available.  Everyone chooses their own lunch.  We end with birthday cake.

The Friday Bible Study group will meet at 9:00 again this week in my Sunday School classroom.  Then, next week we will be back in the fellowship hall.

It’s great to be a part of so many meaningful activities.  I hope you are also involved in activities that have eternal rewards.  If not, join in somewhere or begin something new.

“Our purpose is to please God, not people.

He alone examines the motives of our hearts”

~1 Thessalonians 2:4b NLT, 2nd ed.~

I forgot to tell you that another sister of Mrs. Mickey Cade passed away.  I know you will want to remember the family in your prayers.

Three members of the late Mrs. Wanzie Williams family are in need of our prayers.  They are Stan Williams, her older son, her sister, Julie Kay, and Julie Kay’s daughter.  The last one, Julie Kay’s daughter is especially ill.  Prayers would be greatly appreciated.

Karen Miller’s grandson, Christian Smalley, was taken to the hospital because of a heart issue.  According to Bro. Joey yesterday afternoon, Christian apparently had a-fib which cleared when he was sedated for a conversion which became unnecessary.  He will be watched closely.  Christian seems otherwise healthy, so doctors think he will do well.

Please pray for Beverly “Doodle” Watson again.  Her disease has reappeared.  Pray for strength for a continued battle.

  • This is another good week to volunteer to help family, friends, and strangers recover from the flood.  We do not all have to tear our sheetrock.  There are ways we can help.  Check around.  Make yourself available.  God can use you.  You will be blessed even greater than those you are helping.  Call me TODAY to volunteer.  I promise you will be able to do these things.  Special thanks to those who have served for a short time or day after day.  Consider the Scriptures about the Good Samaritan who helped a stranger.  We have that opportunity many times over.

Tuesday

In the same way,

faith by itself,

if it is not accompanied by action,

is dead.

~James 2:17~

With so many people working through different churches and organizations, I am happy to say faith in action abounds in our area.  One again, a Scripture so appropriate to our day, our area, and many of our churches has been waiting on my computer for me to post today.  I am so thankful to be here and see what many people/churches/organizations are doing.  The love of God abound is shown through the actions of so many.

If you have been helping, God bless you!

If you haven’t been helping, may God lead you to many opportunities to help.

Pray – Please pray for those working in homes. Pray for those traveling to being help.  Pray for those in other states who are giving and sending.  Pray for the leadership in organizations that do so much, especially those that share Jesus as they work.  May God watch over each one and bless them in each and every thing they do.

Give to worth causes.

Sunday

“We are each responsible for our own conduct.”

~Galatians 6:5 NLT, 2nd ed.~

(I suppose that includes both what we do and what we fail to do.  Think about it!)

I am so thankful for all those, both locals and people from other areas, both male and female, from teens to retired folks , who came and worked to help people recover from the flood.  David worked with a team of retired people including an 80 year old retired pastor.  They inspired David with the distance they traveled, their work ethics, their love for people, and their love for the Lord.   Yesterday, one cancer patient went to check on another cancer patient and found a discouraged man sitting alone in the midst of his wet home.  Within minutes, a pastor from another domination had fourteen men there working!  Some who had lost everything are out helping others.  The stories are endless.  The love for others and desire to do anything for them is inspiring.  I’ve seen females, nurses and school personnel, after working all day.  They have been dirty and sore, but so thankful to have been given the opportunity to help others.  I know many people who have washed “tons” of wet laundry for people they do not know in an effort to help them save some things.  I’ve witnessed gallon after gallon of water being removed from out church basement.  I’ve seen ladies working in kitchen from early to late because there were volunteers to be fed.  I’ve seen the piles of belongings of friends on the side of the road.  I have friends who have driven hundreds of miles to take food, clothing, cleaning supplies, water, etc. to the places where it is needed most.  I know people that we prayed for recently because of medical problems who are out cooking and giving the food away day after day. I know pastors who have involved their whole families, including children,  in helping others. I’ve had unchurched people respond to my offers of help from the Baptist Disaster Relief.  I was touched because I know they need the love from Christians and they were able to admit it. I know God is using people to be His hands and feet in innumerable ways and I’m blessed and encouraged.  I’ve seen people “letting their light shine” in so many ways.

Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief is here until it is all over!  If you need help, know of anyone who needs help, or would like to volunteer in any way please call Bro. Stan Statham or The Lord’s Church (229-8521).
