Happy anniversary to me/us!  I don’t mention special family holidays, but today is going to be different.  When my internet came on a few minutes ago, I immediately began to see flooded s of friends, former students, and many others.  David has family that flooded. I probably do too!  The comments I have read and pictures I have seen  have brought tears to my eyes and more tears to wash those away.  I have chosen the hymn for the moment based on some of the comments about “all my worldly possessions. but we are safe”, “parents are irreplaceable”, “everyone is safe”, “Bro. Rusty is in a boat and coming to get us”, “left home, but now the water is here at my parent’s home”, and so many more!  Today’s hymn is “Count Your Many Blessings”!  That seems to be the attitude of so many people.  “Count Your Blessings”

I need to add a second ‘hymn of the day” today.

“God Will Take Care of You”.

I greatly admire the attitude of faith and hope I have witnessed throughout the past couple of days.  That is what gets us though the “less than perfect” days we face.

Yes. it is our 49th anniversary, but I have so many people to check  on today, our plans are changing.  No matter what you had on your calendar/schedule for today, please take time to thank Him and to help others.

By the way, David and I are blessed!  We have been so blessed in our 49 years.  We are high and dry today.  We have come through a very difficult last 18 months of health issues for David, our family loves and serves God, etc.  I choose to focus on the positives God has brought into my life.  No matter what is ahead, He will walk each step of the way with us as He always has.

Wednesday Afternoon

David had a good morning.  He has not broken his right shoulder as he suspected and his first word when the cornea specialist removed the eye patch was “Wow”!  I hope these two doctor visits are a turning point away from all the negative medical situations of the last 15 long months.  Whether or not that happens, God is good and loves us even more than we could ever dream of loving Him.

Wednesday

A person’s wisdom yields patience;

it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

~Proverbs 19:11~

Tricia Doss had foot surgery.  Pray for a good healing period and a healthier foot.

Mrs. Bessie Hayden did not have surgery as planned today.  The doctor told her it will be best to have laser surgery in one eye and nothing in the other one.  Keep praying for her improved vision.

Harrell Sharkey still is on oxygen and have lots of PT ahead.  Keep him in your prayers.

Mrs. Mimi Sneed  called yesterday to request prayer for her son, Bobby.  His health has not been good for a while.

By noon today, David and I will have had five appointments so far this week.  His surgery yesterday went well, but the eye has a patch on it until the doctor removes the patch this morning.  Hopefully, David’s vision in that eye will go from all fuzzy to clear.  Pray for some vision in his left eye.

It’s my favorite night of the week – Children’s Missions!  Boys and girls from age 3-grade 5 are welcome to meet with us from 6-7 P.M.  Among other things, we will be signing a birthday card for a MK.  For you adults who don’t know, MK means missionary kid.  We’lll also pray for him as he helps his parents in their ministry.

Thanks to people who have already said they want to help collect shoe boxes from other churches.  You will be an important link is getting area shoeboxes to children all around the world.

Do you remember the song “Love and marriage, the go together like a horse and carriage”?  With the prayer link, we might say “read and pray”.  They go together in the same way.

Saturday

In him we have redemption through his blood,

the forgiveness of sins,

in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

~Ephesians 1:7~

David‘s next eye surgery, the sixth one, will be Tuesday in Covington.  Please pray.  We are taking nothing for granted, but do know God is in control.

David Bryant is doing better.  He is back to receiving PT again.  Please continue to pray for him.

Have a wonderful day today as you make your final plans for the Lord’s Day.

Tuesday

For I am convinced that neither death nor life,

neither angels nor demons,

neither the present nor the future,

nor any powers,

neither height nor depth,

nor anything else in all creation,

will be able to separate us from the love of God

that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

~Romans 8:38-39~

Justin Lambert continues to make those around him of tiny steps of improvement.  They are so very appreciative of your prayers and ask that you continue to pray.

David will have eye surgery in a couple weeks.  Hopefully, this will be the last one!

“Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party at 11:00 this morning at The Cafe

I apologize for being later than usual, but among other things we have had three phone calls this morning.

This is the day the Lord has given us.  Let’s try to do our part today.

Monday

“Encourage those who are timid.

Take tender care of those who are weak.

Be patient with everyone.”

1 Thessalonians 5:14b NLT, 2nd Ed.

Mr. Burnell Simpson was able to come home yesterday, just in time to celebrate his 92nd birthday Tuesday.

Mrs. Estelle Raborn has improved enough to be moved from ICU to a regular room at North Oaks.

Many of you may know Rev. Tommy Hicks and his wife, Lois.  She had an infection following  dental work that caused her to spent a number of days in the hospital.  She is home now.  Thursday, he will another back surgery.  Pray for both of them as they help each other through these difficult days.

David will be seeing a cornea specialist today and hopefully set up a time and plan for another eye surgery.  His road to get his cataracts removed from his eyes has had a number of boulders, not just rocks, but we are making our way around them and hope the end of this journey will be found in the coming months.  Please keep praying for him.

St. Helena has a special gathering to honor and pray for local police last night.  Due to the rain, they met at FBC, Greensburg.  It was a very special time for everyone present.  New Zion Baptist Church has made baskets and provided summer beverages for the police in two area towns.  The people responded in a great way when given the opportunity to help.  I’ve heard many other ways people have shown their appreciation to police officers.  I challenge you to do/say something to every police officer you meet this week and over the years to come.  I know they will be encouraged by your efforts.

Operation Christmas Child -“Irina and a Pencil Sharpener”  https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/shoebox-stories-irina-and-a-pencil-sharpener/  (Yesterday, David and I made another shopping trip for school supplies.  We were able to make purchases for a couple who wrote a check and allowed us to do the shopping for them.  Of course, we also made some additional purchases for ourselves too.  Once again, many people who saw us commented about me making purchases for my classroom.  We were able to tell them about Operation Christ Child.  Some knew what we meant, but some did not!  What a joy and blessing it was to help them understand OCC.  Again, I apologized to the cashier for the many items that had to be checked out individually, but as we talked, she told us how bless she was to check us out and learn about the shoeboxes.  That just doesn’t happen every time we check out!  The lady and young girl in front of us saw us putting the items on the counter and got interested.  She shared that her children have a garage sale and use the money they earn to pack shoeboxes.  Last time, her  two children packed 17 boxes!  We had the opportunity to encourage them to continue.  That was another blessing.  I wish we could have heard the conversation then had when they left….)

Do you want to create quite a stir and lots of questions?  Purchase items for OCC in big quantities!  You will have the cashier and a number of customers asking questions.  The best part is being able to share what you are doing and why!  You can encourage others to do the same.

The school supplies are marked down in some stores.  It is the perfect time to purchase markers, crayons, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, highlighters, etc.  Get them while the price is the lowest.  You can stretch your funds a long ways at this time of year,

This week’s opportunities:

  • Sunday School and Worship – Check the church ahead of time; Different churches begin at different times.
  • Sunday Evening Worship Services still exist in a number of churches.  Enjoy the message and the music.
  • Today, meet in my classroom at 3:30 to discuss the next ladies’ night.
  • Monday at 10 A.M. – associational WMU meeting at Spring Creek to learn about the flooding at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church and pastor’s home.  We will also learn about their recovery efforts.

Now is the time to buy school supplies.  They are on sale now.  You can purchase fifty (50) spiral notebooks for less than $10.00.  We also need markers, crayons, glue sticks, pencil sharpeners, pencil boxes, etc.  Bring your items to my Sunday School classroom.  Thanks so much.  One day, we may be reading a Samaritan’s Purse story about a child who came to know the Lord because of the pretty markers packed in Kentwood, LA.

Pray for Jeana, daughter of Ricky and Brenda Russell of Chesbrough.  She is hospitalized again.  Pray for her family too.

Linda B. Williams has a toe that has become infected since surgery four weeks ago.  She hospitalized at St. Tammany.  Pray they will soon have her pain and the infection under control.

David and I have had three appointment on three different days this week.  The good news is that David’s eyes are healed enough to have glasses for his right eye and a contact for his left eye.  We also have an appointment on the 25th to see a cornea specialist concerning the next surgery.  Please continue to pray for David and his vision.  The good news is that I had a good report on my vision despite watching for some hereditary problems.

Earlo LaBauve was doing very poorly last night.  Pray for his family in the coming days.

Children on Mission had three new children last night.  It is not too late to bring someone to join us from 6-7 P.M.  We also had two guests last night, Bubba Roberts with his guitar and harmonica and David Alford with stories of experiences in other countries (like missionaries who sacrifice to share the good news of Jesus).

I am getting good report from the vacation Bible schools this week.  My little children be drawn to Jesus through their efforts.
