Update on John Orr of Sulphur Springs, TX

John’s valve replacement went very well according to his doctor.  John will be 94 on September 10th.  A while back he sang a special at his church.  It was “The Longer I Serve Him, the Sweet it Grows”.  It was absolutely beautiful and so special.

 

 

 

Revival continues at FBC, Kentwood.

Sickness Continues

Please continue to pray for victims of Covid-19 and their families.  Once it hit our area, it seems like the conditions here are allowing it to stay and involve more and more people.

 

 

 

Deaths

  • Amanda Dorsa ‘s brother Timmy Alford passed away.  Their mother, a classmate, recently passed away.  I remember them best as they attended church in Roseland many years ago.  I was able to reconnect with Amanda a few months ago.
  • Leroy Wilkinson died Friday.  His wife and mother-in-law passed away six weeks ago.  Leroy leaves a great legacy for his siblings and three sons and their families.  Please pray for the Wilkinson family.
  • I just realized both of men who died were twins.

Bryan Tate is now home from spending another week at St. Tammany because of pneumonia.  He was sent home last night.  Thank God for keeping watch over Bryan.

John Howell “Johnny” McNabb

December 06, 1938 – August 27, 2020

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born December 6, 1938 in Kentwood, LA and was 81 years of age. He was a U. S. Air Force Veteran and a member the Masonic Lodge #248 in Kentwood. He is survived by his son, Michael McNabb and wife, Kim; daughter, Monica Miley and husband, Travis; grandchildren, Courtney Woodard, Mallory Brabham and husband, Joseph, Brittany Woodard, Shelby Woodard, Christopher McNabb and wife, Brita, Landon McNabb and wife, Brooke, Kelsey Fitzgerald, Kaleigh Dyar and husband, Justin, Emily Miley, Gracie Miley and Emmett Miley; 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Huff; brother, Barry McNabb and wife, Helen; sister-in-law, Billie Rae Bullock; brother-in-law, Maurice Jay Bridges and wife, Judy. Bobby Landry of Amite has a lengthy heart procedure yesterday.  All went well.  Pray for a good recovery for him and for the family.

 

 

 

Another day and more friends with Covid – 19!  Please pray for the people of our area that seems to be especially hard hit at this time.  Pray for a preventive measure and better treatment for this disease.

 

 

 

Mr. Johnny McNabb passed away.  This was shared by his sister. Ann Huff.

As most of you have heard God called our dear oldest brother Johnny to heaven today to join his beloved wife, Monnie who preceded him to Heaven by 7 weeks and 2 days! He had COVID 19 but was recuperating from the virus but had a massive stroke from afib 2 days ago and could not overcome that.

March 27, 1943 – August 27, 2020

A resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA as a result of the Coronavirus. He was born March 27, 1943 in Folsom, LA and was 77 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Hayden Stevens; son, Terry Wayne Stevens; daughter-in-law, Reena Stevens; grandchildren, Cody Stevens, Kyle Rosalies and wife, Kelsey, Hunter Rosalies and Haley Rosalies; great-granddaughter on the way, Beretta Rosalies; 2 sisters, Shirley Maus and Dorothy Cranham; 2 brother-in-laws, Richard Hayden and Tim and wife, Donice Hayden. Preceded in death by his son, Gregory Stevens; parents, Everett and Geneva Stevens; granddaughter, Megan Stevens; mother-in-law, Frances Winborn Hayden Lambert; father-in-law, Victor Hayden. This is the father of Greg Stevens who passed away last week and the family I requested prayer for last Thursday.   Please continue to pray for the family.  Losing two members so closely in time is extra hard.

 

 

 

God sent Hurricane Laura on a path that lessened the problems for our area and increased them for the people west of us.  Pray for the people who were in the path of the storm.  Pray for people to serve in ways to minister to the many needs.  Thank Him for those who “step-up” and do all they can to help in such situations.  May each of us find a way to participate in some way.

Hurricane Laura!  Pray, pray, pray!

  • We didn’t get the worse of the storm, but some other people got hit hard!
  • Pray for families that lost family members.
  • Pray for families who lost homes and businesses.
  • Pray for those who will be without services.
  • Pray for those who will be policing, rescuing, searching, clearing debris, cooking, providing meals, ministering to hearts, rebuilding, etc.
  • Pray for the long recovery for all the people.
  • Pray for those who will face Hurricane Laura in the coming hours and days.

 

Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief

BASELA Family- we are making Disaster Relief Preparations with the LBC in response to Hurricane Laura. We most likely will deploy a Feeding Unit to Lake Charles (or near there) Monday. Chainsaw Teams/mudout teams will be needed. If you can volunteer please call our missions office and leave your contact information (985-839-3827 select option three) Please be patient as we cannot deploy volunteers until the storm passes and law enforcement gives the okay. There will be plenty to do to help in the wake of this storm.  Not everyone needs to go and cut trees, repair roofs, etc.  Each person can do what God has equipped them to do.  Please do what God leads you to do.  I know we can all pray!

 

 

 

 

CHARLES KENNETH CARDARONELLA

Charles Kenneth Cardaronella was born July 24, 1956, in Hammond, Louisiana to loving parents Virginia and Tony Cardaronella, and was a lifelong resident of Independence, Louisiana.  On August 23, 2020, at Our Lady of the Lake Hospital, Charles peacefully succumbed to the complications of COVID 19, after fighting hard to overcome the disease.

Charles was the proud father of daughter Aeriel Cardaronella Cox, son-in-law Lance Scott Cox, and loving grandfather to Allie Ann Cox and Macie Ann Cox, all of Folsom, Louisiana.  Charles was the youngest of three siblings, survived by a brother, Larry T. Cardaronella, also of Independence, and a sister, Tonia C. Canale (Charles Jr.) of Tickfaw, Louisiana.  Nieces and nephews include Toby Cardaronella (Rhonda), Timothy Cardaronella (Tara), Jeffrey Cardaronella, Jeremy Cardaronella, Lacey C. Todora (Phil), and Casey C. Stewart (Josh), Brian  Canale (Melissa) and goddaughter and niece Dea C. Frederick (Brian), along with many great nieces and nephews.  Additionally, he leaves behind his friend and Aeriel’s mother, Paula Dugas and his loving godmother Mary Frances Cardaronella Brashears.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Tony and Virginia Carden Cardaronella and grant-parents Frank Sr. and Victoria Chula Cardaronella, and Thomas and Anna Belle Shelton Carden.

A 1974 graduate of Independence Boys’ High School, Independence, Louisiana, Charles was a Trade Show Carpenter with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America.  His work took him to various parts of the United States and into Canada, where he made lifetime friends.  Charles was a member of the Parish of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, and he volunteered much time at the Independence Italian Cultural Museum.  Charles’ loves included family, friends, and fishing.  He enjoyed cooking and sharing his jerky with everyone, too, as well as learning more of his Sicilian heritage.

Visitation will be conducted at Harry McKneely Funeral Home, Hammond, LA, on Friday, August 28, beginning at 9:00 AM until the funeral service begins at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be held in a private ceremony at a later date.

Honorary Pallbearers include Sidney Stabile, Richard Whalen, Guy Capace, David Falcone, Tommy Mandella, and Joey Campo.  Memorial gifts can be made in Charles’ name to the Independence Italian Cultural Museum, P. O. Box 582, Independence, LA. 70443.  Special thanks for all of the prayers during Charles’ fight, for the excellent care received from the OLOL Special Disease Unit, OLOL Palliative Care Team, OLOL Care Managers, and OLOL Chaplains.

Freddie Gene Routt

February 04, 1942 – August 26, 2020

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at his home. He was born February 4, 1942 in Wilsonville, AL and was 78 years of age. Freddie grew up in Baton Rouge and graduated from Istrouma High School in 1960. He worked at Ethel Corporation as a heavy equipment supervisor from 1965 until 1985. He also worked at Gulf Lumber in Mobile, AL as a heavy equipment supervisor. He is survived by his wife, Josefina Son Routt, Kentwood; daughters, Judalyn Ilaya Son, Kentwood, Hany Ilaya Son, Kentwood, Madonna Helen Jones, Baton Rouge, and Martha G. Kliesch, Kentwood; son, Frederick Christian J. Routt, Baton Rouge; and numerous grandchildren. Preceded in death by first wife, Donna Milby Routt; parents, Herman Frederick Routt and Sarah Ashmore Routt; brother, Don J. Routt. The family would like to thank Jamie and Jessica with Encompass Health for their excellent care. We are thankful Hurricane Laura missed our area for the most part, but realize other people will be greatly influenced by the weather in the next few days.  Pray for safety for the people.  Also, pray for individual preparations and wise decision making.

 

 

 

The Covid-19 virus has impacted people in various ways.  A number of people are trying to work long-delayed surgeries in at area hospitals  Pray all will be done in God’s perfect timing.

 

 

 

Pray for those who are pretty-well homebound because of the virus.  It’s been almost six months for us.  Withdrawal from the normal activities of our lives causes major changes.  We have two people here, but pray especially hard for individuals who are alone.  Days can be long between mail, phone calls ,and visits.

 

 

 

Please pray for all the area students up through college age who are beginning another year of school.  Pray for good health and wise choices for each person.  Pray for teachers who are facing job changes or retirement due to Covid-19.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Carlota Collins Boudreaux; his children, Ronald Damian and Joy Lynn Boudreaux Moore, Kay Jeanine Boudreaux, and Thomas Scot and Tracy Lane Boudreaux Johnson; also survived by Linda’s son, Ronald Lyle Johnson and the Schwartz Family; grandchildren, Davin Paul Boudreaux, Joseph Scot and Rachel Johnson, Leigha Rae Watson, Joe and Rebecca Hope Easley, Ian Eldridge McKinney and Carrissa Cortez, Dustin James Watson, Thomas Lane Johnson, Jacob O’Bryan and Brittany Moore, Carlota Lynn Johnson, Ian Michael Johnson, Anabelle Johnson, and 11 great-grandchildren; sister, Ethel Fitzgerald and family; brother, Hubert “Bubby” Tycer and the Tycer family; sisters, Mamie Reese and Mauricette Gilpin. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Jonathan Paul Boudreaux “Jonboy” Moore; brothers, James O. Beware of the Covid-19 virus and the two storms, Laura and Marco, that appear to be headed our way.  Take proper precautions for both.  Pray for Louisiana Baptist Disaster Relief workers who may be called upon to show God’s love to people in their difficult times.

 

 

 

If you are unable to attend church or just need to stay home for now, most of the local churches and many others, offer online church services .  What a blessing that is!  Say special prayers for both of these problems and for those who might be affected by them this week.

Attention FBC Kentwood church attendees – Our Deacon Council met and after prayerful thought and consideration has made the decision to re-open for Worship Services only starting this Sunday morning the 23rd. Is there any group planning a prayer march for our area?
Please be in prayer as two hurricanes could possibly hit our area in a few days.  Include the people of our area in your prayers.  Take some steps today to prepare, just in case.  Check on others who might need some assistance in storm preparations.
I read that sandbags can be filled at area fire stations.  Flooding is not usually a problem in the Kentwood area, but there are many homes within a short distance of Kentwood that could face flooding.
What could you do to help them?  This is a good mission project for groups from area churches.

To the one who is victorious,

and sat down with my Father on his throne.

 

 

Yesterday, we spoke with a former student who almost died with Covid-19.  What a horror story it was!  Thankfully, due to her knowledge. age, and previous good health she survived.   Please be careful.

 

 

 

David has seen two specialists this week.  Each of them gave him a very good update.  David also received Procrit and iron, his first, this week.  Thank-you to all who have, and who continue, to pray for him.  God has blessed us greatly.

Fall Food Round-Up for the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home

The truck will be at FBC, Kentwood on September 21.  Be sure to have your donations at church before that date.  Check with the office to learn of the items most needed at the children’s home.

 

 

 

Operation Christmas Child is still collecting and will begin packing soon.  I’m not sure if we will have our usual packing party due to Covid-19.  I’ll update you when that decision is made.  We will pack and ship shoeboxes this year.  We will also be serving as a collection site again this year.  Remember, there are children who have never had a “shoebox” filled with gifts and an introduction to Jesus.  Let’s be instrumental in being the “missionaries” who help them learn about Jesus.
