Mrs. Ruby Dillon is in room 4101 at North Oaks.  That’s on the fourth floor at the main entrance to the hospital.  She would be pleased to know you are praying for her.

Mrs. Peggy Haynes, who had only a 20% chance of survival, has beat the odds one more time.  “Miss” Peggy is Brady Haynes mother.  Brady served as youth minister here about fifteen years ago.  Prayers have made the difference in “Miss” Peggy’s life.

Please continue to pray for Donna Fay Miller as she prepares for a heart ablation early Monday morning at OLOL.

 

 

Don’t forget to purchase some hair “fixin’s” for the girl’s “shoeboxes”.  Anything a girl from 4-14 would wear in their hair is the collection item for the week.

There will be several new opportunities for children and adults beginning tomorrow night at 5 P.M. at FBC, Kentwood.

The next Two Rivers Associational WMU meeting will be on the 16th at Spring Creek Baptist Church.

Please continue to pray for Shelbie Travis.  Her doctor is working hard to determine why she is still not improving as he expected.  Pray for her family as they continue to help take care of her and baby Austyn.

Update on Josiah Huckaby:

Update: Josiah had a bit of a rough day yesterday & this morning. He has 2 issues that are causing him some stress. First, he has been retaining some fluid which effects his breathing but they have given him some Lasix to help with that. Second, they think his g-tube site is infected…so he is fighting that. They started antibiotics this morning & he seemed to be doing better this afternoon. We are also waiting to find out what cardiology’s plan is. They will be doing a heart cath just to make sure he doesn’t have any heart issues that they haven’t found during his echos. Once we have a date/plan, we will be sure to update everyone. Also, Josiah now has a primary day nurse…and we must say she is pretty awesome! We will be working towards finding a night primary for him too. He will definitely benefit from having primary nurses because they will hopefully be able to pick up on small changes & catch any issues that could cause him to go into another crisis. All we can do is continue to praise God for all He has done & continues to do for us!!! Thanks to everyone who has prayed for us, helped pay for meals at the hospital/gas/groceries, and called/text. We are so blessed to have such a great support system!!!

Thank-you for praying for Shelbie Travis yesterday.  The doctor was pleased with her surgery.  Shelbie’s grandmother flew in yesterday to help care for Shelbie and Austyn.

 

David got a good report on his hand yesterday.  Now, he only has to use his brace when he does more physical work.  David will be glad to put the brace aside this much.

 

Tomorrow is See You at the Pole Day when students will be gathering at flag poles at their school to pray.  Thank God for students who are bold enough to lead out for God among their peers.  Youth from FBC, Kentwood will lead an associational event Wednesday night at the Lighthouse at 6 P.M.

 

 

Boys and girls who attend missions class at FBC, Kentwood are reminded to wear their green vests.

 

Hair ornaments for girls will be the Operation Christmas Child item we will be collecting Sunday.  Leave your bags in church entry area or deliver the bags to my Sunday School classroom Sunday.  Thank-you so much for helping with this great project!

Miss Fay Shoemaker was able to be in church last night.  She looked great!  Her good news is that she does not need a pacemaker. Thank God for Miss Fay’s improvement.

Diane Cox was our neighbor east of Arcola about 35 years ago.  Yesterday, her two day old granddaughter, Olivia, passed away.  Please pray for Diane and the young parents, Brandon and Sarah.

Reggie Felker, who grew up in the New Zion area, was killed in a four-car accident in Clinton Saturday.  Please be in prayer for the family.

Operation Christmas Child “Shoeboxes” – We are working hard to sort and count the items you have been bringing in for the 350 shoeboxes we will pack the first Saturday of November.  I will soon have a list of items we are short of.  October will be a month to focus of filling in some spots.  Thanks so much to all who have contributed in any way.

 

Georgia Barnett is the name of our special offering for Louisiana missions.  Each church sets their own goal.  Later, the money will be combined with that from the other Louisiana churches.  We can make a big impact by pooling our resources and working together.

“Sweet Hour of Prayer” – I remember a time when I was a child and would visit my uncle’s church where he was the music minister.  The youth filled the choir loft every Sunday evening.  As soon as they got into their places, they sang this song.  That memory makes this great hymn even more special to me.

 

While searching for a “Sweet Hour of Prayer” youtube, I ran across another one I want to share.  It is special to me because I loved it as a child and have taught many children this song.  In fact, last night during Bible Drill class with the children, I called out this Scripture for us to all locate and read together.  After that, we sang the song.  What fun it is!  What a powerful message it conveys.  I always add an extra verse about “Shine all over Kentwood”.  I hope you will take the time to sing this simple little song with such a tremendously large message and challenge for each of us.  Listen first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSvQzMpe5Q0

Miss Fay Shoemaker‘s surgery Thursday went well.  Additional tests are being done.

The Third Thursday Gathering was another wonderful night.  Our guests represented five different churches and were real blessing to our night.  Thanks to all of you who help us in various ways each month.  We certainly appreciate you!

The Bible Drill Class for children will meet tomorrow at 6 P.M. at FBC, Kentwood.

The Children in Action Class will meet Wednesday night at 6 P.M. at FBC, Kentwood.  Children are reminded and encouraged to wear their green vests.

 

Operation Christmas Child “Shoeboxes”

  • Tomorrow, we will be collection wash cloths and bars of soap.
  • Next week, we will focus on barrettes and other hair fixings for little girls.
  • Again, I must say thank-you to the many people who have contributed in various ways.  Together, we can make this another very productive year.
  • We are getting to the point when we will put our boxes together the first Saturday of November.  I hope to see many of you at the Packing Party.  I promise you will be blessed when you see the many shoeboxes you have helped to pack.

 

 

I want to conclude today with a Facebook post Bro. Danny Smith of Spring Creek Baptist Church shared this morning.  I’m sure it will touch your heart like it did mine.  Before you read it, I want to say how thankful I am for all who have served in Texas, Louisiana, or Florida in the last month.  I know of members from East Fork, New Zion, and Spring Creek who have already worked with Disaster Relief in these areas.  Thank-you to each one and each church represented!

The last three or four days have been a blur and in many ways I have felt a little disconnected not being able to do what I love to do but these last few days in Fort Meyers have really blessed me beyond measure.

First I have met some “volunteers” who work harder and longer than I have ever worked before in my life. If there is a space on my body that is not sore I can’t identify it! But my heart is full!

Second today we had someone from the community who came and volunteered with us they just wanted to give something back. She worked hard right alone with us and then thanked us for coming to help. She said she and her husband will be back tomorrow.

Tonight we all went out to eat-you will probably see the pictures of us eating what you can’t or won’t see and what you don’t know is the kindness we were shown and appreciation we were given.

I could not handle it and teared up more than once. To have these strangers come thank us just for being here, to have people want to take our picture, to have people bring us some candy or just stop by to say thanks and talk for a moment was more than I could take. But after washing my face I was able to just look at the faces of people who saw who we are and where we are from as they simply thanked us. It reminded me why ministries like this are so important.

I hope that there will never be a need for this kind of ministry again but if there is I hope it works out where you can take part in it. Yes it’s work- next time I will try to go with a lazier crew-but it is doing what Jesus talked about when He talked about giving a cup of cold water in His name.

I look forward to being back home but I will always remember these days as God has blessed and meeting these people has touched my life!

I think I will always remember the one guy who look like he wanted to say something but just could not bring himself to do it. He finally looked me straight in the eye made sure I was looking and nodded as if to say thanks but I can’t talk about it but I feel it. I know what he meant! God bless!

Lula Mae McLin Lombardo

August 04, 1918 – September 21, 2017

A resident of Greensburg, passed away on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at her home. She was born August 4, 1918 in Bluff Creek, LA and was 99 years of age. Preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Frank S. Lombardo; parents, Emmitt and Lena McLin; a brother, John E. McLin; two grandchildren, Paul and Paula Lombardo; and great grandchild Isabella Lombardo. Survived by sons, Frank Lombardo and wife, Ellen, and Joe Lombardo and wife, Catherine; grandchildren, Tony Lombardo and wife, Laura, and Joseph Lombardo, Angela L. Cernich and husband, Oscar, and Joey Lombardo and wife, Nikki; great grandchildren include Nick and Sydney Lombardo, Max and Samantha Lombardo, Ella, Emilia, and Elliott Lombardo, Austin Wascom; and great great grandchild, Gabriel Wascom. She grew up and lived in Pine Grove, La. and was a long time friend of Pine Grove Methodist Church. She was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite, La. Also a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas (honored as oldest living member), the Overload Quilting Club and the Piney Woods Quilting Guild in Pine Grove, La. A special thanks to the loving care provided by her devoted sitters. Family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in her memory can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Full of Grace Inc. in Amite, La. Pamela Easley Viator Connelly
(April 19, 1963 – September 20, 2017) 

Pamela Grace Easley Viator Connelly, of Osyka, passed into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father in the early morning hours on September 20, 2017, at her home.

Pamela was born in Baton Rouge, LA, April 19, 1963, to Bobby Easley and Grace Ann McDaniel Estess Taylor.

Pamela was a 1981 graduate of Parklane Academy. She was an independent dispatcher for the JOWIN Company and was a hard-working, dedicated employee who took care of her customers and drivers.

Anyone who knew Pamela knew she loved her family, her flowers and loved her LSU Tigers, win or lose. She had a contagious smile and loving spirit that touched everyone she met. She loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She never met a stranger, and was always putting others before herself. She was a member of First Baptist Church Magnolia.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Mark A. Viator, Jr. and grandparents, Grace and W.H. McDaniel and Gladys and James Clarence Easley.

Pamela leaves behind her husband of 22 years, Geoffrey Connelly; daughters, Allison Viator and Christie Viator; three sons, Randall Connelly, Mark Anthony “Tony” Viator, III and Dustin “Dusty” Viator; her mother, Grace Ann Taylor and husband, Randolph; her father, Bobby Easley and wife, Dianne; two grandchildren, Madilyn Ray and Christian Mixon; one brother Rusty Easley; a sister, Ashley Brister and husband, Josh; a special nephew, Craig Louviere and wife, Melanie; a special father-in-law, Mark A. Viator, Sr. and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends who will never forget her gentle spirit.

Visitation is Friday at First Baptist Church in Magnolia from 5PM until 8PM and continues Saturday from 9AM until services at 10AM with Rev. Joe Gunter officiating. Burial will be in Terry’s Creek Cemetery under the direction of Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit.

Pallbearers are, Luke Snow, Thad Snow, Brandon Drury, Craig Louviere, Nelson Ott and Matthew Kleppinger Honorary pallbearers are Sam Estess and Richard Paul Cutrer.

Dennis Travis is better and possible can come home tomorrow.  He will be seeing additional doctors.

Aubrey McMillian had a lawn mower to turn over on him about a week ago.  He is still healing, but thankful it was not much worse.  Please add him to your prayer list.

Donna Fay Miller’s heart ablation is scheduled for the 12th.

Tuesday Addition

I’m going to share some prayer requests, praises, and updates tonight.

  • Mr. Charles Miller, Bro. Darrell’s dad, was better and about to go home about noon Sunday.  Let’s pray he continues to do well.
  • Mrs. Theople Hurst was able to have her surgery this afternoon.  If all goes well tonight, she should be returning to Kentwood tomorrow.  Pray for her recovery process.
  • Dennis Travis of Montpelier is hospitalized at North Oaks with severe kidney problems, which have been causing heart concerns.  He is a little better now.  Please pray for Dennis.
  • Donna Fay Miller saw a doctor today and will now be seeing a cardiologist.  Pray she can have the heart ablation soon.  This A-fib is wearing her out.  I know she will appreciate your prayers.
  • Megan Simeon is still on the same island, St. Kit, where she and her mother endured Hurricane Jose.  Pray for Megan as she prepares to face another hurricane.  Pray for her family back in Kentwood.
  • George Cutrer of Osyka has been improving at home.  Today, he saw some doctors for check-ups.  Thankfully, he is doing well.
  • Shelby Travis, daughter of Melissa Bryan of East Fork, had a baby last weekend. She has been dealing with infections since then.  She went to the E.R. tonight.  The baby is fine.  Let’s pray Shelby’s problems are properly addressed and she will soon be able to go home to be with her baby.

 

There’s one more night of revival at FBC, Kentwood.  Join us at 6 P.M. tomorrow night.

 

Thursday, we will have our monthly Third Thursday at the Cabin.  We meet at 6:30.
