David‘s oncologist was almost speechless when she saw him yesterday. Instead of saying come back next week, she told him to come back in six months or one year! Thank-you, God, for David’s good health!

Today, we want to say “Happy third birthday, Josiah” to a little miracle child who smiles all the time. It takes a team to care for him on a regular basis. Let’s pray for Josiah, his family, and other members of that caring team.

Please pray for Mrs. Mildred Birch. She is active for her age, but doesn’t appreciate when it when her body acts up trying to slow her down. Your prayers will be appreciated.

Jeana Russell Brown will be having another surgery tomorrow. Pray all goes well and recovery is quick.

An awful incident in a park in McComb Sunday afternoon caused the death of one child and left another child fighting for his life. Please pray for children to be safe as they play. Also, pray for older teens to find ways to live without harming others.

Donald Earl ” Straw Boss” Jenkins, Sr.

September 15, 1947 – February 19, 2022


A resident of Greensburg, LA, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, LA. He was born September 15, 1947 in Franklinton, LA and was 74 years of age. He was a volunteer fire fighter with North St. Helena Fire Department and served in the Navy. He retired from the police jury, was a truck driver and worked at East Louisiana State Hospital. He enjoyed fishing, riding on his side by side and his 4 wheeler. He also enjoyed spending time with his family. He had a heart of gold and would always help anyone day or night if they needed him. He was an avid Nascar, LSU and Saints fan. On his CB radio he went by the handle of “Straw Boss”. Today, please be in prayer for the situation in the Ukraine. Pray for all involved there, the local folks. the military, and those making political decisions. May they as individuals and as groups turn to God for His leadership and wisdom.

Today is also a good day to pray for tomorrow’s church services at your church and at other churches in our area. Pray for all the local pastors. Pray for all those who need to make a decision at their church tomorrow.

Pray for safety for all people who are trying to keep warm while we are having such cold temperatures.

Jim Slaven

March 09, 1946 – February 12, 2022

Jim Slaven passed away peacefully on February 12, 2022, at the age of 75. Jim was married to Sharon Slaven for 55 years, and they resided in Kentwood, LA. They raised two sons Jim Fletcher Slaven (Jimbo) and Patrick Eugene Slaven (Pat).

Jim was a retired bus driver for Kentwood High School for 41 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. He had a heart of gold and was always helping someone. Jim was full of laughter and brightened the room when he walked in. He always had a joke to tell. He also looked forward to church on Sunday.

Jim is survived by his wife Sharon Ann Wilson Slaven, his sons’ Jim Fletcher Slaven and Patrick Eugene Slaven, daughters-in-law, Jawana Slaven and April Slaven, his much-loved grandchildren Stephanie Slaven (Aaron), Krystal Campbell (Rick), Beau Slaven, and Hunter Slaven (Logan), Shelby Slaven, Chloe Slaven, Dusti Smith (Dylan), Laken Smith (Matt), great-grandchildren Carter Troia, Abigail Campbell, Avery Campbell, Fletcher Slaven, Karter Abernathy, Jaci Smith, Easton Smith and Jude Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents’ James Fletcher Slaven and Gertrude Brooks Slaven; his brothers JD Slaven, Johnny Slaven, Joe Slaven, his twin brother, and sisters Glendora White, Doralee Slaven, Diane Slaven.

The family extends sincere thanks for all the prayers during this time. They would also like to thank the staff at North Oaks Medical Center for taking care of Mr. Jim in his final days.

Visitation will be held at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, and from 9:00AM until Religious Services at 11:30AM on Wednesday, February 16, 2022, at Eagle Heights.
