PLEASE say a prayer for my dad!! He was supposed to start chemo today but his magnesium levels are not going up they are going to run some more test and do a CT scan. They are planning to move his chemo to next week. God has his hand on my hand and I believe it will be okay!! I have faith in him!!!

We received a good report today from Amber’s doctor at MD Anderson. Blood work results were good, which shows that her body is tolerating the chemo at this time. The MRI shows that Amber is recovering from surgery as expected. She has been experiencing some shooting pains in the area of the surgery over the past week. They feel this is due to nerves that may have been damaged during the surgeryand will heal in time. She is scheduled to return back to Houston in four weeks for another follow-up. If all goes well, they will release her to start seeing an oncologist closer to home. Dr. DeGroot told us that he only knew of one neuro-oncologist in Louisiana and he is located in Baton Rouge. His name is Jon Olsen and he has already agreed to take Amber on as a patient once she is released from MDA. He will be able to manage her chemo treatment and future MRIs. She will still return back to MDA 3-4 times a year for follow-up visits. We are so pleased with the results at this time and we know everything is falling in place from all of your prayers and support (and an awesome medical team). Prayer is powerful and Amber is living proof of that. Please continue to keep my girl in your prayers as she enters her second round of chemotherapy next week.

Melissa was at the hospital overnight.  Pray she will be strong when they release her.  Pray for her as she will have recovery time and physical therapy to recover from two broken shoulder and surgery.

Missions – VBS – Day 3 at FBC, Kentwood – Time surely passes quickly when you are having fun.  Pray for the older children as Bro. Joey presents the plan of salvation to them today.  Pray for hearts to be open.  Bro. Joey will talk with the ones who makes decisions individually at a later time.  If the children go to another church, he will pass the information on to the pastor of that church.

Tuesday Addition

Melissa Johnson (From Charlene Blades)

As of 10:00 a.m. Melissa was out of surgery and doing well. They put steel plates in both shoulders. Doctor said it was worse than they thought. She may come home later today or tomorrow.  Please continue to PRAY for her and her family.

Sharon Martin asks us to pray for her dad, Earlo LaBauve.  He has an appointment Thursday to check out his current medical issue.  Please pray for Mr. Earlo as Sharon requests.

Mr. Harley Kliesch is doing a little better.  He seems to be on a roller coaster ride lately.  Your prayers for him and the family are always appreciated.

You know it was a good day at VBS when you teach children how to prayerwalk and one of them tells you “Bye, I had a good time” and others  (boys) suggest places where we could do our “pretend” prayerwalking in Kentwood.

Monday Afternoon

Melissa Johnson fell at work this morning and broke both shoulders.  She is in North Oaks.  A decision about whether or not to do surgery has not been made at this time.  Keep Melissa in your prayers.

Mrs. Catherine Yarborough is in North Oaks with heart issues.  She had A-fib.  Additional tests indicated a clot.  She will be on a blood thinner and will probably go into rehab so they can watch her medicine as well as her mobility.  Pray for her and her family as they take turns caring for her.

Mr. Pat Hoosier will begin another round of treatment Tuesday.

God has blessed my dad beyond measure. His cancer has responded so well to the chemo and with God in control he is taking care of so much more for dad. He will start chemo again tomorrow, please pray that it continues to be effective and for there travels. We appreciate that you all have taken time to pray for our family. May God bless you and your family!! Thank you and we love you with all our hearts!!

Amber here: Mom and I are on our way back to MDA for my 1 month check up. I have blood work tonight to see how my body is handling the chemo. I also have an MRI tonight to make sure the rest of the tumor is behaving itself. I meet with my oncologist tomorrow morning to get the results of these test.

Update on flooding in Prague and surrounding areas – Water continues to rise as rain continues to fall.  Pray for the people who are affected.

My friend, Robin Wilson Moore, had made her delivery of needed supplies to Moore, OK.  Bro. Stan should have made it to OK too by now.  Isn’t it wonderful how God has blessed people of LA and other states and touched their hearts to share with those who have lost so much?

The young man who was killed last Monday will be brought to the Hammond airport tomorrow.  His funeral service will be at Eagle Heights  Church in a few days, possibly on the 10th.  I’ll post information as it is available.  His name was Chris Drake

VBS was wonderful.  When I left, they did not have a count yet.  I know I had fun and enjoyed seeing how the boys and girls absorb information and have such tender hearts.  It is wonderful to listen to them as they pray.  Tomorrow, we will prayerwalk.  I look forward to teaching them how to do this.  Lives will be changed this week!  If you know of any children who are available this week, encourage them to come to the church at 8:15 tomorrow.  It is not too late to register.

Camp Living Waters needs a nurse.  If you can help some or through Thursday, please call 985-345-1831 as soon as possible.  I know God will lay this need on the right hearts.  The boys and girls at camp need a nurse!

VBS Time Change – I reported VBS begins at 8:25, but the bulletin at church yesterday said 8:15.  Please bring your children by 8:15 so they don’t miss out on anything.

Disaster Relief

  • Some friends from West Monroe took an 18-wheeler load of items to Moore, OK yesterday.  I think God for what they did to collect and deliver a load to people in need.  Way to go, Robin and Mike!
  • Bro. Stan and Joe Kelly are on the way to OK with a load of donations from our association.  They planned to spend last night in the Shreveport area and continue their trip today.  Thanks to all who donated through their local churches.

Continue to pray for Robbie Lynn.  Her Caring Bridge site is operational again. http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/robbielynn/journal  Robbie Lynn asks you not to call her room now so she can rest.  She really wants to go home next weekend.

Mrs. Velma Kliesch has been moved to ICU because of pneumonia.  Pray for her and for her family, some of whom are vacationing in Florida.

Friday Evening

Colossal Coaster World (Vacation Bible School) begins Monday at 8:25 at FBC, Kentwood.  It is not too late to register to attend.

Rachel Rhodes, daughter of Keith and Lori, was born while they were serving at FBC, Kentwood.  Rachel is on her way to serving on her first mission trip, which will be in Rwanda.  Rachel asked her parents over a year ago if she could make this trip.  Pray for the team as they minister in the name of Jesus.

Don Schneeweiss’ sister‘s surgery went well.  She has a new kidney!  Keep her and her donor, her sister-in-law, in your prayers.

The Harrells had a busy week with procedures and appointments.  Mr. Phillip’s vision is better because of his eye surgery.  They are tired, but glad to be at home.

Robbie Lynn was moved to a room about noon.  She is in pain and expected to be hospitalized seven to ten more days.  Robert thanks you for your prayers and asks for continued prayers.

Pray for the families of the four firemen killed in Houston today.

Pray for those in the path of the tornadoes in OK now.  It has been amazing to “ride along” with the storm chasers.  Pray people heeded the warnings and evaquated or move to safe places.  Thank God for the technology to give a couple days of warning before storms hit the area.  More disaster relief will be needed in the area.  Open your hearts and help meet needs.

Roy Lee Wood
(August 11, 1924 – May 31, 2013)

Roy Lee Wood, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away at his home on May 31st, 2013 in the early morning. He was a native of Enon, Louisiana and a longtime resident of Amite. He was a retired U.S. Army Lt. Colonel, having first enlisted at the age of 14. He served in the Pacific during WWII, the post-Korean War negotiations in Panmunjom, and in Army Intelligence at the Pentagon. He readied an artillery battalion for the Vietnam War and served with NATO in Europe. Colonel Wood retired in 1967 after serving 30 years. He then graduated from the Paul M. Hebert Law Center at Louisiana State University and practiced law in Amite from 1970 until the mid-1990s. He was an active forester, farmer, surveyor, conservationist, and historic preservationist. Passionate about native Longleaf Pine and indigenous plant species, he was committed to reforesting his land after Hurricane Katrina. Col. Wood is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lyda Camille Yates Wood; four daughters, Lyda Sue Wood Madison and husband, Bernard L. Madison, of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Alice Jane Wood Hallmark of Amite, Louisiana; Gail Marie Wood Martinez and husband, Alfredo Martinez of Patzcuaro, Mexico; and Amanda Lee Wood Barnett and husband Barry M. Barnett of Alexandria, Louisiana; and brother John Jewel Wood of Lacombe, Louisiana. He is survived by 13 grandchildren, Eva Camille Madison Pieper and Blair Bernard Madison (Sue’s children); J. Arthur Smith IV, Grace Wood Smith Martin, and Marie Clare Hallmark Verdin (Jane’s children); Dominic Carlo Marcello, Katherine Marie Marcello, Thomas Anthony Marcello, and Elizabeth Marie Marcello (Gail’s children); and Katherine Camille Barnett, Lee Austin Barnett, Marcus Wood Barnett, and Lily Elizabeth Barnett (Amanda’s children); and four great-grandchildren, Samuel David Pieper, Isla Utilia Madison, Victor Garrett Marcello, and Everett Grant Verdin. He was preceded in death by an infant brother; his parents, Eustace and Ada Lee Wood; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Camille and Fred Yates; son-in-law, Roger Hallmark; and granddaughter, Anna Marie Marcello. Thursday Afternoon

Mr. Harley Kliesch is doing a little better.  He and the family still could use our prayers.

Hannah Shockley Wilkinson got to go home this morning.  She will need therapy later.  The baby is fine.  Keep her in your prayers.  The family thanks you for praying.

Jennifer Pittman has some good news.  She will begin a new chemo today.  Keep her in your prayers.

Pray for members of East Fork Baptist Church as they work with Disaster Relief on the New Jersey coast.  Thank God for their abilities, their availability, and their desire to serve others in this way.  May God richly bless you as you bless others!

Most of you will remember we are doing a drive to collect money and fabric to be used to make colorful gowns for sick children at Children’s Hospital and other places where there is a need.  I asked Susan about her granddaughter, Lara.  She’s having chemo this week.  Susan and her husband are on a mission trip in Ecuador.  I would say they are a very giving family!

Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Moak
(March 27, 1944 – May 30, 2013)

A resident of Kentwood, died at 8:44 a.m. on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at his home. He was born March 27, 1944 and was 69 years of age. He is survived by his 3 children, Daniel Moak and wife, Melissa, Kentwood, Sandy Freid and husband, Jimmy, Calhoun, and Colla Moak, Kentwood; 5 grandchildren, Justin Moak, Chase King, Casey Freid and Joseph Freid; 3 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Brylee and Brintin; 3 sisters, Annie Allen and husband, Joe, Magnolia, MS, Linda Riggle, Vacherie and Peggy Tate and husband, Roger, Kentwood. He was preceded in death by his parents, Colla and Evie M. Moak; sister, Wilkie Moak Blades; 2 brothers, Paul G. “Pappy” Moak and Stanley Earl Varnado. Hannah Shockley Wilkinson got out of surgery about eight last night.  If all goes well, she should be able to go home today.  Keep her in your prayers as she adjusts to daily living with her repaired arm.

Mr. Kenneth Felker has his port now.  Pray it helps him in his future medical treatments.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Morris both look great!  She looks the picture of perfect health despite the fact she is continuing her medical treatment.  Keep them in your prayers as her treatment continues after they get home.

Pray for Robbie Lynn as she has almost two weeks or recovery time in the hospital.  I’m sure she and her family will be most appreciative for your prayers.

Vacation Bible School begins Monday at FBC, Kentwood.  You can register your child and purchase a t-shirt during office hours today and tomorrow.

Update and 3 New Requests

Robbie Lynn’s surgery is over.  The spleen and half the pancreas were removed as planned.   The doctors will be following her closely.  Additional prayers will be needed for the doctors, Robbie Lynn, and the family in the coming days.

Paula Splane called with three requests.

  1. Hannah Shockley Wilkinson slipped in the rain in Baton Rouge today and injured her lower left arm.  One bone is broken and one shattered.  Hannah will be having surgery tomorrow afternoon at Baton Rouge General on Blue Bonnet.  Surgery is scheduled for 2:30, but that could be adjusted.  Pray for Hannah, her unborn son, and all the rest of the family at this time.
  2. Paula’s mother, Mrs. Velma Kliesch, is hospitalized in Greensburg.  She will be treated there for the rest of the week.
  3. Mr. Harley Kliesch is home from the hospital.  He and his family need our continued prayers.

5:00 Update on Robbie Lynn

Linda Callihan wanted me to give you an update on Robbie Lynn.  As of 5:00 oçlock Robbie still in surgery.  Late starting and going on 4 hours rather than the 2 hours as expected but they assure Linda everything is going fine and they are just going very carefully.  Hope to know more soon.  She’s very thankful for all our prayers!  Thank you, Connie Brabham

Robbie Lynn Callihan’s surgery will be this morning.  She shared this on facebook last night.

I will be having cancer removed in the morning at Baptist Hospital in Jackson, Ms. My family and friends will be updating my caringbridge account until I’m well enough to post my own updates again. We really appreciate all the prayers being sent on our behalf.

Mr. Pat Hossier got another report that shows no cancer in his brain.  He has be given back the privilege to drive!  Join the family in thanking God for this fantastic report.

Students are our of school.  Pray for a safe summer for each on and wonderful opportunities to participate in activities that will enrich their lives in every way.

This morning the ladies of FBC, Kentwood will be enjoying their monthly “Young” Ladies Birthday Party at Nyla’s.  If you need more information, call the church office or me this morning.

The youth of FBC, Kentwood will have a fundraiser to support youth camps this summer.  Glen Magee is cooking the chicken.  Call the church office before 10:00 if you have not ordered, but would like to have some boxes.

Missions – On of the supper trips will be a youth mission trip to Texas.  Pray for the youth as they prepare and for the fundraiser to give sufficient funds to help make the price more affordable.

VBS – Collossal Coastal World will be the theme for the VBS which will be the first week of June at FBC, Kentwood.  Call the church office or visit the church office to register and purchase a t-shirt.
