Tuesday

This morning, I’m reminded of another reason to be thankful.  My draft form of an incomplete Prayer Link was automatically saved when we had a brief power outage.  I remember the days when you had to start all over.  I thank God for all the technology we have now, even if I don’t use all of it.  Being late is being than not being able to get this posted at all.

He has made everything beautiful in its time.

He has also set eternity in the human heart;

yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.

~Ecclesiastes 3:11 NIV~

From Brandy Potts

Please pray for bro. Mike Shummock (Pastor of EFBC). He is having a heart cath in the morning (Tuesday).

Amber Update: Just a quick note to let you know that Amber is doing great. She is slowly gaining her strength back and has enjoyed receiving lots of tender loving care. We received a phone call from MD Anderson yesterday and they have changed her appointment date to return back. We will be returning back to Houston late Thursday afternoon. Amber will start a full day of appointments on Friday, May 10th. She will have blood work done, staples removed, get biopsy results, and meet with the neuro-oncologist. We will post another update this weekend.
Thank you again for checking in and continuing to support Amber. Keep those prayers flowing…….
Love to all…..
Kathy “Ree Ree” (mother)

Pray for Chuck Pulliam of Amite as he has a knee replacement surgery today.  He did well with the other knee replacements and recovery, so let’s pray he does as well with this one.

Brody Roberts is back in North Oaks.  Let’s pray this young man gets to feeling much better soon.

Pat Hoosier is beginning another  round of treatment.  Pray for it to be effective and for him to tolerate it well.

Mrs. Nadine Council called with three requests while I was at another wake.  I will try to read the notes taken for me.

  • A relative of their daughter, Beth, has a job flying helicopters in Africa.  The family’s request is that he will be able to find a job closer to home so he can be with his young family.
  • Joan Morris, a sister-in-law, has cancer on her spine.  She’s in Augusta, GA and would welcome our prayers.
  • The husband of a niece, Tom Breeze, is hospitalized with a latter stage of alzimers.  He’s in Florida.  Please add him to your prayer list also.

Thanks to all who helped prepare food for the Hammons and/or Strickland families.

Notice the work done on the flower beds at church.  This was done by Fay Gehringer.  She didn’t do it for recognition, but I’m sure a “thank-you” wouldn’t be unappreciated.

Several churches have already recognized their seniors.  FBC, Amite had eleven.  FBC, Covington had twenty-five.  I don’t know about other churches who have already recognized their seniors.  You can share with me if you wish your church to be included.  FBC, Kentwood will recognize seniors on the 19th.

Mothers’ Day is traditionally a day for parents to dedicate their young children to the Lord.  Pray for each young family as their promise to teach their child about God.  Also, pray for mothers and memories of mothers this week.

Missions – Zach’s Lidz for Kidz

Our time for collection of hats and caps for boys and girls at Children’s Hospital will close Wednesday of next week.  Please take time to purchase some cute hats for these children to wear while they undergo treatment.  It’s not about Zach.  It’s not about the church.  It’s not about you.  It’s about sick children you can encourage.  Baskets are located under the stairs to the balcony and under the stairs in the northwest corner of the fellowship hall building.  Thanks for being an encourager to a sick child.

Rod Phillips passed away yesterday due to cancer.  His name will not mean anything to you, but to IMB missionaries who got a good deal to use a car for a few months, he was a very special man.  David went to the Jackson, Tennessee to pick up/return a vehicle several times.  Thankfully, I went last May to return the vehicle the Hatchels used while Stateside this last time.  I’m so glad I did, because I met a used car salesman who had a real heart for missions!  Not only did he go on numerous mission trips, but he provided a vehicle at unbelievably good deals to missionaries while they were back in this country for a while.  I remember I reported this here and used the comment, “God can use anyone, even a used car dealer!”.  Ron Phillips was indeed a man who made a difference for the Lord and His kingdom.  May God bless his family and friends, as well as many missionaries, who will surely miss this man.  The Scripture above is dedicated to Rod’s memory.

Nancy Carruth is on her way to Baton Rouge this morning for a liver biopsy.  Please pray for this sweet friend and her family as well as the medical staff who will be working with her.

Pray for Bro. Gary Wieborg, former pastor at Roseland, as he comforts two families through funeral services on the same day.

Mission Projects

  • Thanks to those who contributed hats, caps, or money for Zach’s Lidz for Kidz.  Baskets are available at FBC, Kentwood for those who would like to be an encouragement to children receiving treatment that causes their precious little heads to lose their hair.  This project will be completed on Wednesday, May 15th.  As Zach says, “Pay it forward”.
  • Thanks to those who have contributed money, fabric (100% cotton or flannel), or sewing notions for Lara’s Gowns for Smiles.  Baskets are available at FBC,Kentwood for drop off.  You can give you financial donations to me or the church office.  This project will continue indefinitely.
  • As you sort through your clothing to mark the end of winter, please put aside hats, sweaters, gloves, winter shoes, and coats.  We will collect these items at FBC, Kentwood after May 15th for distribution early next fall.
  • Thank-you for sharing God’s love by helping with these and other projects.  If you are not from this church, you are still welcome to participate.  The point is now who or what church participates, it is that people are benefitted by our efforts.

Continue to pray for the many folks who have been listed lately and for the numerous bereaved families in our area.

If you have any names to add, please feel free to share them with me.  The more praying, the better!

“So if you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches?

And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you property of your own?

No one can serve two masters.

Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.

You cannot serve both God and money.”
