Connor man’s left lung pneumonia took a toll and he needed the ventilator to open it again. He was intubated this afternoon after giving bipap a valiant effort. Although Coye and I know this is a step backwards in terms of getting him home, it’s what’s needed for our sweetness to heal.
Caring for a child with such complex, life threatening needs is overwhelming, but our family leans not on our own understanding but HIS. Connor’s life has always and continues to be a wonderful mixture of blessed adventures that lead us to new places, new friends, and new lessons. Through our adventures we have had the pleasure of sharing our strong faith and belief that God is at the center of everything we do and is the reason we are where we are today.
We are hopeful he won’t have to be intubated long and will continue to rest and heal so he can be home soon with his sweet brothers, Annie, and momma and daddy. There’s truly no place like home, but when that’s not an option there’s no place like CHNOLA! 💙

Friday Morning Bible Study – Romans 11

VBS begins Sunday night with a kick-off and follows with classes Monday – Friday from 8:30-11:30. Our theme is “Shipwrecked”. Contact the church office to pre-register and to purchase a t-shirt.

Children in Action – In missions, children are taught there are four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do. Last night our class (of all girls last night) untangled hundreds of necklaces, sorted, and packaged beads that have been donated for Operation Christmas Child. We left our regular schedule to “do” missions! Most of these beads will be used as fillers for shoeboxes when they arrive in Dallas. We will be working on lots of doing in the next weeks and months. I hope you have June 16th marked on your calendar. We will meet in the fellowship hall from 9-12 that morning to work on the “do” aspect of missions some more. EVERYONE is invited to participate!

When we have the next WMU meeting in July, we will focus on doing. We will have tables set up with various churches showing some of the items their members are creating to share in various mission projects. For adults, there are the same four aspects of missions, learn, pray, give, and do. We hope to learn from each others, so we can do more and thus share more. I challenge each church in the association to show us what you are doing and teach someone else how they may can do the same. Let’s share our ideas. Let’s bring the children demonstrate and to learn.

Connor man’s Friday update… It is Friday, right?

First things first, he’s finally off all blood pressure medications! Praise Be To God!
He’s still on some sedating meds to keep him from moving too much with his vent. He squeezed my hand this morning when I was praying the rosary with him and my heart melted into a puddle. What a fighter he is and how loved he is by Christ and Our Holy Mother!
He’s getting an echocardiogram in a bit to check his heart rhythms, as well as some pampering on his sweet lil thunder thighs to keep any clots from forming. If all goes well we are hoping for possible extubation early next week. He’s come so far and we are so grateful.
Again, thank you for your love and prayers. Each one is so mighty!

Leah Roach Wilkinson

February 17, 1964 – May 23, 2018

Leah, age 54, went to her heavenly home Wednesday, May 23, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in New Orleans to Richard Roach Sr and Patricia Sheehan. She was a lifelong resident of Loranger. Leah married the love of her life, Jimmy Wilkinson, over 37 years ago.
Leah is survived by her husband, James “Jimmy” Wilkinson Sr.; Daughter, Brittany Wilkinson Traylor and husband John; sons, James “Jimmy” Wilkinson Jr. and wife Kacie; Dylan Wilkinson and wife Danielle; mother Patricia S. Lewis and husband Welton Lewis Sr.; and grandchildren, Addison and Madilyn Traylor, Aiden and Eli Wilkinson, and Declan Durbin.
Leah is preceded in death by her father Richard Roach Jr. and grandparents; Lloyd and Rose Sheehan, Richard and Louise Roach
Leah was a loving and devoted wife, daughter, mother and grandmother. Her grandchildren were the light of her eyes. She made many fond memories on their family camping trips.
Leah founded and worked hard to create a cancer support group to help others with their battle. She was awarded the ‘Top 10 Nurses 2018′ by Tangipahoa District Nurses Association. She was also an active member of the YouNight Sisterhood.
Leah was loving and encouraging to everyone she met and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation at the chapel of Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home, Hammond, on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. with the Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Ford Cemetery in Independence, LA.

Connor Corkern

Up until last Friday night Connor had been well. I noticed he sounded congested, but nothing that worried me. Saturday morning he woke up congested with lots of thick mucus and fever. I started giving his usual meds, CPT vest, and breathing treatments to stay on top of it. By Saturday night he seemed better. Sunday morning he needed some oxygen, and after trying my best to get him suctioned out well enough to breathe easily I had a gut instinct that I needed to bring him in to Children’s.

I loaded him up with his portable oxygen tank and off we went. By the time I made it to Hammond I noticed he was lethargic, had rapid short breaths, and my heart knew he wouldn’t make it to New Orleans.
I rushed into North Oaks hospitals ER in tears pushing my barely breathing Connor with his oxygen tank. They immediately brought him back and started working on him. They took excellent care of him until Children’s Hospital’s helicopter arrived to pick him up. I breathed a sigh of relief watching the helicopter lift off the ground bringing my boy to his home away from home. If only I had known what was happening in that helicopter I wouldn’t have been so calm.

Ninety minutes later Coye and I sat outside of CHNOLA’s Pediatric ICU waiting to see Connor man. We had to wait an hour more before being brought to his room.

Connor had to be bagged the entire ride to CHNOLA and was immediately intubated upon his arrival in New Orleans. My boy was in septic shock, had metabolic acidosis, and his left lung had pneumonia. His blood pressure bottomed out a few times, but thanks to the incredible ICU team here, he made it out okay.

The ICU doctor came out and told us how incredibly sick Connor was and how he wasn’t out of the woods by any means. We weren’t sure if Connor would be able to overcome this illness and were mentally preparing for a life without our boy; something we dread with every ounce of our being.
Fast forward four days later, Connor is making miraculous progress. He is still intubated, somewhat sedated, but is holding his own blood pressure and his levels are stabilizing.

We know Connor’s healing will be a long process, and we know God is in control. Many people have asked us how we can be so strong, and our answer is always the same…God. When we are weak, He is strong.

Thank GOD for His beautiful mercy, grace, and love. God’s plan is perfect and has led us to wonderful destinations with our boy. He has also led us to all of you, our amazing prayer warriors and supporters. God is so good to us.

I promise to keep you all updated on Connor’s progress through this adventure. Our family sends you love tonight, and always. Thank you for following along on Connor man’s many adventures.

Joanne Seymour is progressing well following cancer surgery and looking forward to the next step in New York.

Adrian Phillips is home and so glad to be back at Pine Ridge. Keep him in your prayers.

Chad Mixon Beadle

February 11, 1975 – May 18, 2018

Chad Mixon Beadle, 43, Osyka, MS., passed away on May 18, 2018 at the SMRMC in McComb, MS.

Visitation will be Monday May 21, 2018 from 4 PM until services at 6:30 PM at Osyka Baptist Church in Osyka, MS. Rev. Gene Richards, Bro. Wendell Rhodus, Bro. Joe Weaver and Bro. Marion Schenk will officiate and burial will be in Osyka Cemetery.

Chad was born in McComb, MS., on February 11, 1975. He is the son of Sherwin A. Beadle Sr., and Betty Joe Mixon Beadle.

Chad was a member and Deacon of Osyka Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father and son. He attended South Pike High School and received his GED. He was a minster at heart and was able to minster at a variety of churches, Hebron Baptist of Franklinton, Friendship Baptist of Amite, La., Sunny Hill Baptist of Franklinton and more. He was an avid outdoorsman and anyone who met him, loved him. He will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Chad is preceded in death by one brother, Sherwin Albert Beadle Jr., and one sister, Kristy Gail Beadle.

He is survived by his parents, his loving wife of twenty four years, Angelia Schenk Beadle, three daughters, Areal J. LeJeune (Wilton), Mariha Joe Beadle (Jason Elie) and Maranda Kay Morgan (Zack); one sister, Kathy Joe Gaines; mother and father in-law, Thelma and Ray Schenk; numerous brother and sister in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Cain Schenk, Andy Ellsworth, James Schenk, Ray Schenk, Dustyn Dickerson and Cody Schenk.

A resident of Amite passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home. She was born July 13, 1924 and was 93 years of age. She was a retired Deputy Tax Assessor with Tangipahoa Parish. She is survived by her son, Harrison R. Gill, III and wife, Dee Dee, Amite; grandchildren, Molly and Jason Gill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Garfield Dykes and Allie Jones Dykes; sisters, Alma Dykes Eichel, Vera Dykes Schwebel, and Adele Dykes Dyer. Josiah Huckaby – Update: So last Saturday they officially told us we are only waiting on private duty nursing to be set up for Josiah to come home. This is HUGE news…especially since at the end of March they told us it would most likely be 6 more moths before he would be ready. God definitely showed up & showed off. Only 1.5 months later & he’s ready!!! We aren’t sure how long it will take to get private duty nursing. There are only 3 companies in our area that offer pediatric & it can take a long time for them to have a spot available. They have sent referrals to all 3 companies & now we just wait. We can’t thank everyone enough for all the prayers. To God be the glory!!! Hopefully the next update will be with a potential discharge date.

Mrs. Ruby Dillon is in North Oaks, room 3407. She went there midday yesterday. We are waiting until a little later to call this morning. If you see us later, you can get an update. Pray for Mr. “Cete”, her faithful caregiver.

Chad Beadle, who was ordained a deacon at Osyka Baptist Church a week ago, passed away during the week. An obituary is not yet available, but the service will be at 7 P.M. Monday night. Please be in prayer for his sweet family.

Linda Hornsby-Craddock is doing better. Surgery will be scheduled for a later date and possible not even be necessary.

Adrian Phillips is in Lakeview. He had a port reconstructed, but that didn’t work as hope, so he had to have a second surgeery. Please pray for him, his family. and his medical team.

Demi Jane Drago has arrived. She weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz. and was 21 inches long . Shaw Marie Drago is the older sister. Joey and Meghan Sharkey Drago are the blessed parents to these two daughters who are certainly gifts from God.

Linda Hornsby-Craddock is hospitalized in Brookhaven with a appendix issue. Doctors are working to clear up infection so surgery can be done. Pray for all to go well during this process.

George Bales’ surgery went well. He is home recovering nicely.

Philip “Steve” Steven McMichael

April 24, 1982 – May 13, 2018

Steve, age 36, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2018. He was a proud native of Hillsdale, LA and a resident of Amite, LA, who was passionate about being a Heavy Equipment Operator. Steve was a member of many Jeep Clubs and Cummins Clubs. Steve had a passion for anything that ran on diesel; whether it was his four wheel drives or heavy equipment, spending quality time with his wife cooking crawfish or anything outside was where he was often found. He had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Steve’s true love was his family and always put them first in everything he did. He would help anyone in need, always shared his huge heart with anyone around and was never seen without his beautiful smile, he never left without a big hug and always said he loved you before leaving. Steve was an incredible husband and father, loving brother and son, and remarkable person who will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife of 5 ½ years, “My Jenny” McMichael; son, Timothy Alan Humphries McMichael; daughter, Taylor Ann Humphries McMichael; parents, Philip Owens McMichael and Rhonda Harper McMichael; siblings, Rhonda “Michelle” McMichael Honeycutt and husband Jonathan, Matthew “Dewey” Owens McMichael, Aaron Ray McMichael, Joshua Caleb McMichael and wife Haley. He is also survived by his niece, Avery Ann Bellaci; godchild, Alexis Bromell; new puppy, Diesel; and many close friends and extended family.
Steve is preceded in death by his grandparents; and best friend and dog, Tank.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Brandon G. Thompson Funeral Home to assist the family with funeral expenses.
