Bryan Tate’s FB Update:

On this date two years ago Dale and Brandon left here with Bryan around 9:00 pm headed to MD Anderson. I thought that was the last time I’d see him alive as he was really low and i was sick and unable to go with them. Dale and Brandon checked several times on the trip to check for a pulse. They really didn’t think he’d make the trip there. God put him where he needed to be and put the right doctors there. It was game on and they/ Bryan never looked back. He was put in a trial that was God sent. In 28 days he was in remission and has stayed there. It’s been a long road, not an easy one but when we go back to Houston this fall he will be taking his last treatment. All by the Grace of God and in His time .

He has been on Prayer List all over the US as he served as the Wild Coon Hunt Chairman for BBCHA for the whole US and has many friends / acquaintances scattered over many states. The prayers of our local friends and church families have been especially special to us. We felt them all.

Of the last four times we have been home he has had pneumonia three of those times and hospitalized two of the times. We think this last time they have finally got a handle on it and looking forward him not fighting this constantly.

Continue to keep him in your prayers. We are so blessed with the best friends .

 

 

 

Most of the Covid-19 patients in our area seem to be improving.  Please pray for eveyone to return to good health and for others to NOT get the virus at all.

Patti is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, David White, daughter, Brittany Murphy, son, Brant White, great nephew raised as her own son, Maverick Meadows”T-Mack”, sister, Mary Lillie, grandchildren, Hunter Murphy and Hayden Murphy, niece, Danita Lillie, nephew, Kris Lillie, and great niece, Gabby Maloy. She is preceded in death by her parents, Stewart and Audrey Cox, brother, Stewart Cox Jr., father in law, Elisha White and mother in law, Edith White. Patti graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University with a Bachelors in Sociology. She was a probation officer for 32 years, a commissioner in charge for elections, reserved deputy for Constable office, substitute teacher for Livingston Parish Schools, manager for H&R Block, and volunteered for various food banks. She loved shopping, gardening and traveling.

Gwendolyn Sue Cooper LeBlanc, DDS, of Loranger, Louisiana, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Sunday, August 16, 2020, at the age of 74. She was born on September 19, 1945, in Independence, Louisiana, the daughter of the late T.T. Cooper and the late Ruby Simpson Cooper. Dr. Sue LeBlanc graduated from Louisiana State University School of Dentistry in 1975 where she was elected to the C. Edmund Kells and Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor societies. She became board-eligible in the American Academy of Gnathologic Orthopedics in 1984 and received her accreditation with the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry in 1995. Besides running a successful practice in Hammond for years, she has also held an associate professor position at LSUSD and several esteemed positions on boards and honor societies throughout the years including: Board of Directors of the AAGO; president of the LA chapter of the AACD. She is a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of General Dentistry and American Laser Society. Dr. LeBlanc is also a published researcher having several articles in The Journal of the AAGO, Dental Dialog, and PPAD: Practical Procedures and Aesthetic Dentistry. In 2011, Dr. LeBlanc received her National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Basic.

Besides being dedicated to her profession, Dr. LeBlanc was also a loving mother and she absolutely adored her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and colleagues.

Dr. LeBlanc is survived by her daughter, Michelle LeBlanc; son, Vial “Joey” LeBlanc, III, and wife Kristin; grandchildren, Nash Rung, Elizabeth “E.V.” LeBlanc, and Vial “Joey” LeBlanc, IV; sisters, Yvonne C. Vernon, and Patricia Ann Tynes and husband Don; brother-in-law, Allan Cummings and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vial “Joe” LeBlanc, Jr.; sister, Frances Sylvia Cooper Cummings and brother-in-law, Henry L. Vernon, Jr.

Family and friends will be received at Harry McKneely & Son Funeral Home, 2000 N. Morrison Blvd., Hammond, Louisiana 70454 on Thursday, August 20th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, 609 3rd St., Independence, Louisiana 70443 on Friday, August 21st at 10:00 o’clock.

Inurnment will take place at Cooper Cemetery of the Sacred Heart in Loranger, Louisiana.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Sue LeBlanc’s memory to the Junior Diabetes Research Foundation at JDRF.org, or to the Annie Cooper Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1007 W. Thomas St, Ste B-C, Hammond, Louisiana 70401.

When Dr. John Sullivan was a pastor in Texas, my uncle served as his music minister in two churches.  The Sullivans and Tollesons were close and have remained friends for many years.  My relatives moved to a church on the Texas coast just before a hurricane moved in.  Much of their church was destroyed.  That’s where my relatives and some other members of the church were.  After the storm passed, my uncle got his family further north before returning to the coast.  Momma and I drove to Texas to pick up four Tollesons to stay here until living conditions were better where they lived.  I have fond memories of eating and sleeping there before the return trip. She cooked a wonderful “Sunday” lunch for us with the best roast, rice, and gravy I have ever eaten.  She  had potatoes, carrots, onions, etc. with her roast.  It was simple delicious!  She and Bro. John were so kind.  Four of the five members of my Texas family are now in heaven to greet her.

Nancy Sullivan, Encourager, Mentor, Who Dearly Loved Ministers’ Wives, Dies

JACKSONVILLE—Nancy Hinson Sullivan, wife of John Sullivan, retired executive director-treasurer of the Florida Baptist Convention, died Aug. 12, 2020 at the Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla. The 83-year-old had suffered a heart attack in June and then a stroke a week prior to her death.

Nancy Sullivan was born with a twin sister Aug. 21, 1936 in Jonesboro, Ark. She met John Travis Sullivan in Washington, D.C. while they both worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. When they were dating, Nancy Sullivan took him to her Southern Baptist church and assumed he was a Christian. But her father discerned he was not and told her so.

They were married on June 24, 1955. Three months later, Nancy Sullivan presented the plan of salvation to her newlywed husband and led him to the Lord Aug. 13, 1955. He was baptized in Congress Heights Baptist Church in Washington, D.C., and was ordained to the gospel ministry on Dec. 1, 1957, by First Baptist Church, Cupertino, California.

After serving alongside her husband in churches for 32 years, she became Florida Baptists’ first lady when John Sullivan was elected to lead the state convention in 1989. Until he retired in 2015, Nancy Sullivan crisscrossed the state, traveling to churches alongside her husband.

According to close friend Susan Owens, of St. Augustine, “It was like they were one person. She traveled every mile he traveled. She has always been right there with him, encouraging him.”

“She was special. I will hold onto many memories. She was my mentor, friend, I loved her dearly,” Owens said.

Nancy Sullivan always defined her role as “John’s wife” ready to stand behind him. She had a burden for “hurting pastors’ wives” she would often say, “As a pastor’s wife for 32 years, I want to say that it can be great. We have great memories of every church we have ever served.”

“Other than her family, Nancy loved ministers’ wives more than anything,” John Sullivan said.

In 1992, Nancy Sullivan served as president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ministers’ Wives Conference, a job that included planning and hosting the annual luncheon held during the SBC, as well as raising funds to underwrite the luncheon costs.

She was dismayed that many pastors’ wives could not afford to attend the luncheon and established the Ministers’ Wives Endowment Fund, approaching friends, acquaintances, churches, state conventions and SBC agencies for contributions. Recently the name of the fund was renamed “The Nancy Sullivan Endowment Fund” for the SBC Ministers’ Wives Luncheon in honor of her efforts.

“There was no one like Nancy Sullivan. Her heart was extraordinary,” said Susie Hawkins, wife of the GuideStone Financial Resources President O.S. Hawkins. “Her encouragement and vision with ministers’ wives was the driving force to establish an endowment fund to lower prices so that every wife could enjoy the luncheon. She worked tirelessly for years,” she added.

“No one is indispensable to the Kingdom of God, but some are irreplaceable and that was Nancy Sullivan,” Hawkins said.

Rhonda Kelley, wife of New Orleans Theological Seminary Emeritus President and adjunct professor of women’s ministries, said Nancy Sullivan was a “long time dear friend. I will always be grateful for her personally investing in my life as a young minister’s wife.”

“One of her great contributions to the Kingdom of God and Southern Baptists was her commitment to ministers’ wives. We will ever be grateful for the endowment she established to secure funds for the ministers’ wives luncheon,” Kelley said.

“May we all live godly and faithful lives as she did.”

Nancy Sullivan was awarded numerous honors in her life, including “The Mrs. J.M. Dawson Award for Outstanding Services”, presented by the Southern Baptist Convention Ministers Wives, June, 1999; and “The Clyde Merrill Maguire Award for Ministers’ Wives,” presented by the Florida Baptist Convention’s Ministers’ Wives, November, 1998.

She is survived by her husband, and their three grown children: son John Michael Sullivan of Stuttgart, Ark., and his wife, Jennifer; and daughters Cheryl Ann Anderson Allen and her husband, William, “Sonny” of Nashville, Tenn. and Jeanie Wendt and her husband, Sam, of Fayetteville, Ark. She had five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville where he serves as senior adults pastor.

Covid-19 is still working in our area.  Some people are on the “road to recovery”, some are still struggling, and unfortunately new cases are still appearing.  Please do your part to help stop this awful virus.

 

 

 

A number of churches are not going to have regular services today.   I’ll not list them all, but FBC, Kentwood will be online (Facebook and You Tube) only at 10:30 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. today.  Spring Creek Baptist Church will not meet in any way today.  Please pray for our churches.  Neither church has announced plans for next week.  The revival at FBC, K has not been cancelled at this time.

 

 

 

Temple Holland Bryant

March 30, 1961 – August 14, 2020

Temple Holland Bryant, 59 of Amite, LA died on August 14, 2020 after a long illness. The loss of Temple’s unique charm and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him. As a child, he could bring out laughs with his silly nature. After his first day of school, he announced that his teacher said he knew everything and was finished with school. He brought chuckles to anyone in need. His well articulated compliments showered friends and strangers alike. Temple left smiles in his wake. A young Temple joined the USCG and proudly served across the country over the years, he received many awards and gained more brothers and sisters. He later brought his talents to Jackson Hewitt. He reveled in being the Tax Man and loved his loyal clients. Along with military bearing and a strong intellect, he was remarkably creative, Temple baked, carved rocks, sculpted and painted, yet music was his favorite. He left us a library of You Tube videos where he shared his humor, heart and talent. Temple also believed in the power of community service, volunteering at various food banks and kitchens. His children and grandchildren were his pride of his life. He delighted in being near them and talking about them. Temple had a special relationship with his many cousins, nieces and nephews, finding specific connections with each. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Moody; son, Dustin Kibbe; grandchildren, Carter, Christian and Maelee Moody and Gannon and Andrew Kibbe; mother, Shirley Bryant; brothers, John Bryant (Phyllis), Stephen Bryant (Tisha) and Matthew Bryant (Liz); sister, Elizabeth Bryant Towe; special cousins, Mary Jo Ricks and Kathy Wales; goddaughter, Krystal Alonzo. He was blessed to know and love his many nieces and nephews and a devoted extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, James H. Bryant. A Memorial Service will be at Pine Ridge Methodist Church on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00PM. Burial to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery. Johnnie Marion McKenzie

Graveside services for Johnnie Marion McKenzie , 80, of Tylertown, Msississippi will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Union Church Cemetery in Tylertown with Rev. Doug Lee and Rev. Ron Jordan officiating.

Mr. McKenzie passed away in Brookhaven, Mississippi on Thursday, August 13, 2020. He was born January 3, 1940 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Sarah Thornton and Clark McKenzie. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter Amanda Mathis and his great-grandson Caleb Mathis.

He enjoyed watching baseball, old movies, hunting, target practicing and spending time with his family. Mr. McKenzie was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as part of the Baptist Brotherhood. He served as a volunteer Civil Defense Director and as Walthall County Justice Court Judge for many years. Mr. McKenzie retired as Sergeantfrom the Army National Guard and also woked as a timber cruiser for Monticello Forestry company for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Frances McKenzie; son Gary Marion McKenzie and his wife Sylvia McKenzie; daughters Becky Dickerson and her husband Tim Dickerson, Cindy Smith and her husband Chad Smith,  Christy Yarborough and her husband Chad Yarborough; grandchildren Jason McKenzie, Ashley Greene and her husband Travis Greene, Stephanie Harper, Johnny McKenzie and his girlfriend Becca Gaudet, Craig Dickerson and his wife Alex Dickerson, Corey Dickerson and his wife Beth Anne Dickerson, Heather Coker and her husband Tyler Coker,  Brayden Smith, Caleb Yarborough and his fiance’ Elleana Smith, Caylee Grace Davis and her husband Zane Davis, and Caden Yarborough; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister Virginia Sauls; brothers Henry Earl McKenzie and his wife Ginn McKenzie, Jimmy Thornton and his wife Katie Thornton, Dewayne Thornton and his wife Debbie Thornton, Harold Thornton and his wife Susan Thornton, James Thornton and his wife Jeri Thornton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

Geraldean Merritt Sanders, a resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite, LA. She was born January 26, 1924 in Osyka, MS and was 96 years of age. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She worked for the State of Louisiana Department of Tourism for 30 years. She loved her job and the trips she and Judy were able to go on because of it. The thing she was most proud of though, was her family. She is survived by 2 daughters, Barbara Posey of Dora, AL and Judy Sanders of Kentwood, LA; 6 grandchildren, Scott Posey (Karen) of Denham Springs, LA, Denver Posey (Victoria)League City, TX, Kim Sulzby (Jay)Dora, AL, Michelle Bridges(Paul) Kentwood, LA, Marcie Grice (James) Kentwood, LA, Justin Hendry (Dana) Kentwood, LA, son-in-law, Larry Hendry, Kentwood, LA; 23 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; as well as being “Maw Maw” to numerous others. She is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Sanders; son, Aubrey Ray Sanders; daughter, Marie Hendry; parents, Obediah and Jessie Merritt; and son-in-law, Raymond Posey. Pallbearers are Scott Posey, Denver Posey, Justin Hendry, Caleb Hendry, Triston Lofton and Jeffery Posey. Pattie Lillie White, formerly of Roseland, passed away.  The message is from Kris Lillie.

I’m posting with a heavy heart, my Mom’s Sister Patti passed this morning, she is with my Grandmother and Grandfather in Heaven, as I write this post. She was like a mother to me and my sister and she helped raise us. It’s heard to believe that she is gone but I can’t question anything that God does. She will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to her family, her husband David White, her daughter Brittany White Murphy and her son Brant White. Brittany has 2 children who will miss their grandmother very much. My Mom is really having a hard time dealing with my aunts passing. Please send prayers for my family. I know her children and her husband are having a hard time dealing with this. I last spoke to my aunt about a month ago, but was not able to communicate with her anymore because she was in ICU and not able to communicate. This is like a bad dream or some kind of nightmare that I just can’t wake from. Please just pray for my family. Thanks so much.

Herbert Payne Weaver, Sr., a resident of Roseland, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born March 29, 1935 in Amory, MS and was 85 years of age. He was a member of the Choctaw Nation, 32nd Degree Mason and Past Master of Independence Lodge # 458, member of The First Baptist Church of Independence, Veteran of U.S. Army during the Korean conflict with the 11th Airborne division and retired District Fire Chief of Jefferson Parish. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Ann Weaver; daughter, Kerry Layne Brown and husband Ricky; 2 sons, Capt. Today is a good day to focus on some good news.

  • God let us wake up.
  • Our loved ones are just a phone call away.
  • We have air-conditioning for the August temperatures.
  • There is food enough to feed a small army in the pantry and freezers.
  • Our vehicles have gas and good tires to take us were we need to go.
  • Walmart still does grocery pick-up.
  • Prayer meeting came to us at home last night.
  • Our collection of items for “shoeboxes” is progressing.
  • My sister helped me tremendously with the “shoeboxes” this year.
  • A friend reported that yesterday was a better day because of no fever.
  • Friends call to be sure we are okay.
  • Someone asked if we needed anything this week.
  • David is so much stronger.
  • Doctors have tender hearts and sometimes think about patients as family,
  • We will be celebrating 53 years of marriage today.
  • I loved being a teacher at school and at church.
  • Retirement is wonderful.
  • God still loves us and has a place prepared for us.

Please continue to pray for the many around us who have Covid-19, especially those who are hospitalized.  Pray for family member who are separated because of this disease, but for their own protection.

 

 

 

Pray for all those involved with the school systems in our area.  Not only for the academics, but for the health of everyone involved.

May 11, 1929 – August 11, 2020

A resident of Independence, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born May 11, 1929 in Independence, LA and was 91 years of age. He graduated from Loyola School of Dentistry in 1961 and practiced in Amite, LA for 40 years. He was a member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, American Dental Association, Louisiana Dental Association, and LSU Alumni Association. He enjoyed high school football and tailgating with his sons at LSU football games. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Tillie Calcagno Anzalone; 3 sons, Johnny Anzalone, Thomas Anzalone and wife, Lisa, and Paul Anzalone and wife, Donna; 2 daughters, Mary Gerwitz and husband, Ray, and Theresa Anzalone; grandchildren, Christopher, Nick, and Jack Anzalone, Hannah Anzalone McDaniel and husband, Kevin, Jenna Anzalone, Joshua Anzalone, and John Gerwitz. The Carona virus has attacked our area.  Many families are in need of our prayers.

 

 

 

The service for Martha Griffith that was scheduled for Saturday has been postponed because our church is closed for two weeks due to the virus.  I’ll give you a new date at some future time.

Revival is still scheduled for later this month at FBC, Kentwood.  The date presently selected to return to live services is August 23.  This is open to change dependent on the number of members of our church who are sick.  In the meantime, online services are available on Facebook and Youtube.  Sunday services are at 10:30 A.M. and 6:00 P.M.  Wednesday services are at 6 P.M.
