Pray for Marty Simpson as he has hand surgery today.  Your prayers will be appreciated.

I have two requests for children who are sick.

  • Ferrin Hendry, daughter of Justin and Dana Hendry of East Fork is hospitalized and needs our prayers.  She was taken to McComb, but will be moved to Baton Rouge as soon as possible.
  • Shaun Paul Edwards, the step-son of Cindy Knight Edwards formerly of Amite, is very sick.  He is in Baton Rouge.

Both families believe in the power of prayer and would appreciate your prayers.

My momma got a good report from the cardiologist yesterday.  Thank you for praying for her and us.  Momma’s sister and brother-in-law will be traveling from Texas for a brief visit this week.  Pray for their safe traveling.

INTERNATIONAL MISSIONS PRAYERLINE
IMB
Wednesday, May 4, 2011

“Seek the LORD while he may be found; call upon him while he is near;” (Isaiah 55:6, ESV).

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, asking you to pray for women who are studying the Word of God.

Young women in Cambodia who study at university often face more pressure than their male counterparts. They maintain their family’s housework and are more limited in their mobility around the city, leaving them less available to spend time with friends. These factors make it difficult for women to spend time in Bible study or to attend a church. Pray for the wisdom and creativity of a young local church that is trying to reach these women.

One woman visiting a Last Frontier location has diligently been studying God’s story-telling. She is growing well in His Word and is ready to share very carefully when she goes back to her hometown. Especially pray that her memory will be strong so that she can remember all she has learned.

David and Tina Taylor, Baptist representatives serving in Hungary, ask for prayers for two groups that have started meeting in their home. One group is a women’s Bible study. Please pray for those who have attended, asking that they will continue to come and hear the Gospel and see their need to turn to Jesus. The other group consists of teenagers. Pray for them as they discover the Bible together. Many of these teenagers have never read the Bible before and are very confused about life, and many come from broken homes. Pray that as they read and hear, they will see that there is One who loves them more than anyone else. Pray that they will see Jesus.

* Please pray for more opportunities for believers to meet trusted people with open hearts as they share the Good News.

*Pray that the passion for Christ among international and national Christians will remain high.

* Intercede for women, and men, to seek the Lord while He may be found, even when that comes at great personal sacrifice.

When I posted Monday that the internet had been down, that was in Georgia.  Except for the homes with trees down, many on houses, Jason’s neighborhood was getting back to normal.  There is so much damage across several states.  You can ride down the interstate with everything looking normal and suddenly you are in an area where there is a lot of destruction.  One advantage the people have is that the pockets of destruction are surrounded by large areas of normality.  That means food, water, gas, etc. that was so limited here after Katrina is available there.  Take advantage of the method(s) of helping others that fits you and your schedule

Through Facebook, I have been in contact with several former staff members originally from Alabama who are there now and helping in the recovery effort.  I thank God for their willing hands and tender hearts.  They said “There are no words…”!

Thank God for all the opportunities available for everyone to send money or items or to contribute the efforts of their hands and backs in helping physically and spiritually.  What a ministry opportunity!  Read below.

Jadon’s Story: Home

We made it home from the hospital. I was so ready to leave. I kept saying bye bye bye most of the day. After the nurse took my IV out, I started clapping and laughing. My test results came back today. I do not have mono. Praise the Lord!!!! I do have adenovirus. Adenovirus effects the respiratory system. In adults its like a common cold but it can make babies very sick. The virus also caused me to get ear infections in both ears and a throat infection. They gave me antibiotics through IV today and then I got to come home. I’m much better today. I ate 3 meals today. I’m playing on the floor. It’s amazing how much I perked up throughout the day. The doctors said it will take about a week for me to get all my strength back. Thanks for praying for me. I know your prayers helped me get better so quickly. Oh and just so you know. My seizures have been awful. They always get bad when I’m sick but they were so strong this time. They are also much better today. In fact when I woke up from my nap this afternoon, I didn’t have any. So we are praying that I continue to get better and that my seizures continue to get better too!!

Here is a little note from my mommy.
If you get a chance, listen to the new song on this page. The title is Blessings by Laura Story. It’s a great song about the trials in this life and how they just may be our blessings in disguise. I can’t tell you how much of a blessing Jadon has been to me and my family. He has taught us so much about just what is important in this life. I’m so glad that I’m able to share this little miracle that God has sent us with you all. Thank you all so much for praying for him and my family. God is truly blessing my family through this difficult time in our life. We can’t wait to see what He is going to continue to do in Jadon’s life 🙂

Prayers are always important.  Do your part!

Monday

Just got internet back….

“Our father in heaven …”

~Matthew 6:9 (NIV)~

Last night I had the priviledge to witness God at work. I attended a family night church celebration that started with the dedication of four babies.  Then, seventeen people of all ages were baptized.  That was followed by the Lord’s Supper.  That was such a meaningful servce, especially since my granddaughter, Peyton, was one of the seventeen being baptized.

David and I saw some tornado damage and hear both good and sad stories about the weather.  Pray for the areas that had a lot of damage and loss of lives.  Pray for all the lives that are changed forever.  Pray for disaster relief workers who will minister to physical and spiritual needs.

Jadon’s Story: Hospital update

I’m sad to say that I have been admitted to the hospital. We are at St. Tammany in the peds unit. I got really sick Saturday morning. My mommy called my pediatrician. She sent us to lake after hours. They said my ears and throat were clear and they ruled it a virus. They said if I didn’t get any better to go to the ER. I continued to get worse throughout the day. We talked to the pediatrician again and she said to go to the ER. The main reason she wanted us to go was because of the side effects of the lamictal and dehydration. We got to the ER around 530 pm and I didn’t get to my room until 12 am. It was a very long night. They tested me for flu, strep, and did a CBC. Everything came back negative. They said that it’s not anything to do with the lamictal. My blood work showed that my white blood count is up. Right now they are giving me IV fluids since I’m not eating or drinking. I was dehydrated when we got here last night. The doctor came in this morning and said my throat was full of pus. How lake after hours missed that and the ER doctor is beyond me. They retested me for strep and it came back negative. They are now testing me for mono and adenovirus. We will not know any of these results until tomorrow. I will be staying another night. Please pray that I get better soon!!!!

Happy May!

Jadon’s Story: Not much change

Things are staying about the same for me this week. I’m still having
good days and bad. The bad days that I refer to are still good
compared to before steriods. A good day now consist of 30 or fewer
spasms and a bad day about 60. I’m still learning news things. I
learned to take toys out of a bucket and how to put them back in. I’m chewing my food much better. I’m
very happy and alert. I’m having more seizures than my family wants
but we are satisfied with the amount of progress I’m making so
quickly. Its still too early to say if the new medicine is working.
All it’s doing right now is making my mom a nervous wreck. She said
when my brother burned his hands there was a little girl in the
hospital room next to him who had gotten burned from taking lamictal.
So she has seen what this medicine can do. Please pray that I continue
to make progress and that my seizures don’t increase. My brain needs
for these to stop.

My sister, Julie, has a second grandson, Gavin Joseph Parino.  He weighed eight pounds.  Mother and baby are doing well.  He has a brother, Jameson, and parents, Melissa and Andrew Parino.

Continue to pray for all those who are homeless, jobless, or grieving for family and friends who perished this week in the tornadoes.  FBC, Amite is collecting items tomorrow to send.  I’m sure if you would like to send items, they would be glad to include yours too.  Other groups will be going to clean up and sending items to help the victims.  I”ll post information about these opportunities as I get information.  Prayers are always appropriate whether or not you can go or give.

The following information is from an email I received from the Louisiana Baptist Convention.

The death toll from Wednesday’s tornados has exceeded 297 as of 11 am, Friday, April 29. When disasters strike, the body of Christ is motivated to do something to help. There are several things that Louisiana Baptists can do immediately:

1. Pray for the people impacted by the storm. There are many needs. Pray for the churches that are simultaneously attempting to recover and to minister.

2. Donate cash through legitimate channels. Individuals and churches in Louisiana may donate or receive an offering and send it to:

LBC Disaster Relief Fund,

1250 MacArthur Dr.

Alexandria, LA 71303

Because of the network Southern Baptists have, LBC will distribute every dollar toward disaster relief needs without any of the overhead costs other organizations incur.

We are moving heavy equipment to the areas impacted by the tornados. Fuel is costly and funds are needed immediately.

3. Volunteer your time. If you are a trained DR person, we need you now for some immediate requests. If you are not trained, go to  www.LBC.org/DisasterRelief for instructions about the future training events.

Chloe Neyland is improving at home with her family.  Continue to pray for her and her family.

Roger Pittman continues to have tests done.  Please keep him and his family in your prayers.

Continue to pray for all those who experienced the bad weather this week.  Pray for the many families who lost loved ones.  Pray for all those who were injured.  As people “pick up the pieces” of their lives, may they have assurance of God’s love and His great hope for their future.

THE THREE ENVELOPES

A fellow had just been hired as the new CEO of a large high tech corporation.  The CEO who was stepping down met with him privately and presented him with three numbered envelopes.

“Open these if you run up against a problem you don’t think you can solve,” he said.

Well, things went along pretty smoothly, but six months later, sales took a downturn and he was really catching a lot of heat.  About at his wit’s end, he remembered the envelopes.  He went to his drawer and took out the first envelope.  The message read, “Blame your predecessor.”

The new CEO called a press conference and tactfully laid the blame at the feet of the previous CEO.  Satisfied with his comments, the press and Wall Street responded positively, sales began to pick up and the problem was soon behind him.

About a year later, the company was again experiencing a slight dip in sales, combined with serious product problems.  Having learned from his previous experience, the CEO quickly opened the second envelope.  The message read, “Reorganize.”

This he did, and the company quickly rebounded.  After several consecutive profitable quarters, the company once again fell on difficult times.  The CEO went to his office, closed the door and opened the third envelope.  The message said, “Prepare three envelopes.”

What do you do when things go wrong?  Who do you blame?  How do you react?  Imagine for a moment that the apostle Paul has prepared three envelopes for you when life gets tough.

The first envelope contains 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (make sure you don’t read it until you really need it!)

The second envelope contains Philippians 1:19-21 (only read it if things are getting worse!)

And the third envelope contains 2 Corinthians 12:8-10 (save this one for extreme situations!)

May God’s Word give you the strength you need to meet the struggles of life this day and every day.

Have a great day!

The weather is finally settling down.  Lot of homes have been damaged or destroyed.  Many lives have been lost.  If you can help someone, do so.  If you cannot operate a chain saw or pick up debris, pray for those whose lives have been touched/changed because of the tornadoes.

Davud’s brother, Jimmy, will be having cataract surgery this morning.  Pray all goes well.

Chloe Newland is home again.  She seems stronger.  The family is happy to be together again.  Continue to pray for little Chloe.

Susie Sharkey has pneumonia.  Add her name to your prayer list.

Roger Pittman is having checkup three weeks following heart surgery.  So far, all seems to be good.  Pray as additional tests are done today.

The Harrells, Mr. Philip and “Miss” Annie Bell, are doing a little better.  Thank-you for your continuing prayers for them.

“At the name of Jesus every knee should bow…” Philippians 2.10
Mike Benson, Editor

THE CHRISTIAN LIFE is something we do together…

In Ephesians 4.29, God tells us to build each other p with our words, and later He instructs us to “speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs” (5.19).

We need other Christians to speak, sing, and sometimes shout the truths of God’s Word to us.  We need others to pray for us when we’re in the midst of temptation.  We need friends who will hold on to us when we’re ready to give up.  We need friends who will challenge and even rebuke us when we’re indulging in sin.

Are you connected to others in the church?  Many people today have lost their vision for the Lord’s church.  I used to be one of those people.  I thought of “church” as merely a building or a place to go for social interaction.  I always went to church, but my lifestyle revealed what a low priority it was for me.  The church was somthing on theh outskirts of my life.  Joshua Harris, “Lone Rangers are Dead Rangers,” Not Even A Hint, 134
There’s a vast difference between attending “church” and being the church.  mb

“And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.” Ephesians 1.22-23

Thanks for being there to pray for many needs today.  Your prayers are needed and appreciated.  If you can “put feet to your prayers”, please do so.

Anna Lee
