Wednesday Addition

Our son, Jason, called to say his family is okay.  Rome, GA had a tornado this morning.  Jason was sitting at a traffic light.  Becki was home.  The children were at their schools.  The tornado hit their area of town and the downtown area.  Jason did not know of any injuries, but saw lots of damage.  Join me in praying for the people who will face similar experiences today in several states.  Jason’s area is predicted to have more problems before dark.  Thank God for protecting them.  Ask Him to continue to protect them and all the others in the path of bad weather.

“Then He said to them,

‘Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.’”

The Easter drama set has been dismantled and stored until the next time.  Thanks to all who participated in the drama in any way.   May the impact of the drama continue in individual lives forever.  There were 15 professions of faith indicated on decision cards.  Pray for these decisions and other decisions that were made.  The performances may be over and the set dismantled, but the impact will be eternal for some people.  What a blessing!

“When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them, because they were weary and worn out, like sheep without a shepherd,” (Matthew 9:36, HCSB).

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, asking you to pray for Christ’s compassion to be poured out on the crowds once again.

It was a very small room, maybe half the size of a one-car garage. When the national told the worker that approximately 40 people would be coming to this house church on the far outskirts of town, the worker was skeptical because he did not think that 40 people would even fit. But they did. More than 40 Indian nationals crowded in like sardines to praise God and hear the worker teach about life in Christ, about putting off the old and putting on the new. After the service, the church members crowded up at the front to be prayed for, burdened with many things and a strong desire to see God use them to spread the Gospel to their family and friends.

In contrast, imagine a place where temples and shrines for idol worship outnumber convenience stores. Imagine a land of people whose daily lives are influenced by those temples and shrines, and where tradition and culture influence the people so much that an encounter with the one true God gets crowded out of their lives. Pray for the Word of God to influence them. Join workers as they ask the Spirit to break the chains of tradition and culture that keep the people from experiencing the freedom that comes from knowing Jesus.

* Please pray for the Last Frontier people group living in such a place to come to Jesus Christ, who is the Savior.

* Intercede for the many Indian national believers that they will be equipped through Bible study and teaching and that they will live lives that bring a sweet fragrance of Christ to their villages.

* Ask the Lord to increase your capacity for compassion as you minister to the crowds around you.

2011 National Prayer
by Joni Eareckson Tada, Honorary Chairman, National Day of Prayer

Almighty God, you are our Mighty Fortress, our refuge and the God in whom we place our trust. As our nation faces great distress and uncertainty, we ask your Holy Spirit to fall afresh upon your people – convict us of sin and inflame within us a passion to pray for our land and its people. Grant the leaders of our country an awareness of their desperate need of wisdom and salvation in You until sin becomes a reproach to all and righteousness exalts this nation.

Protect and defend us against our enemies and may the cause of Christ always prevail in our schools, courts, homes, and churches. Lord God, send a spirit of revival and may it begin in our own hearts.

Remember America, we pray. Remember the foundations on which this country was built. Remember the prayers of our nation’s fathers and mothers, and do not forget us in our time of need.

In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, Amen.

“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth,” (2 Timothy 2:15, ESV).

Dear Intercessors, this is Eleanor Witcher of the Office of Global Prayer Strategy, joining you in prayer for Bible studies.

Several young believers, working in groups of two or three, have been doing ministry in low-income areas around the city of Ahmedabad, India. They are telling stories from the Bible and teaching people what being a Christian means and what a church should be. One group is even asking whether it is time for them to start a church. Please pray for these young believers. Many of them have only been following Christ for a short time and are still learning themselves.

A key couple in a Bible study group, meeting in the Patagonia of Argentina, accepted Christ in early 2010 and has been growing steadily in their faith. Recently they have come under spiritual attack on various fronts.

Back in January 2010, two workers started Bible studies in four hard-to-reach villages along the Oras River in the Eastern Samar province, the Philippines. Pray for these Bible study groups to begin meeting regularly on their own and that a biblical understanding of salvation will result in a heart change among the Waray-Waray.

A foreign student is now studying in Malaysia and has been attending a Bible study group. He has begun reading the Bible for the first time. In his home country, he saw many cruel things being done by the leaders against the citizens. When presented with the biblical mandate to forgive and love one’s enemies, he became aware of the contrast between his life and that of a follower of Jesus. Pray that his questions will be answered and that he will see the truth.

* Please pray for the various groups that are meeting, asking that people will receive Christ as Savior and that believers will be well discipled.

* Pray that they will all have wisdom as to when their small groups should form into a church.

* Give thanks for God’s training provided through His Word.

Thank God for the beautiful day He provided yesterday.  I know lots of families spent part of the day outside.

Mrs. Margaret Callihan was able to be at church yesterday.  Thank God for her recovery from her recent surgery.

Several people are dealing with shingles.  Pray for them to have fast relief.

Be careful to watch out for students who are out of school and spending much of their days outside.

THE SURROUNDING MASTER

The author of the following story is unknown to me:

A mother wishing to encourage her young son’s progress at the piano brought him to a concert given by the famous Polish pianist, Paderewski.  When the evening arrived, they found their seats near the front of the concert hall and eyed the majestic Steinway waiting on stage.  Soon the mother found a friend to talk to, and the boy slipped away.

At eight o’clock, the lights in the auditorium began to dim, the spotlights came on, and only then did they notice the boy upon the bench, innocently picking out “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star”.

His mother gasped, but before she could retrieve her son, the master appeared on the stage and quickly moved to the keyboard.  He whispered to the boy, “Don’t quit.  Keep playing.”

Leaning over, Paderewski reached down with his left hand and began filling in the bass part.  Soon his right arm reached around the other side and  improvised a delightful obbligato.  Together, the old master and the young novice held the crowd mesmerized.

In our lives, unpolished though we may be, it is the Master who surrounds us and whispers in our ear time and time again, “Don’t quit.  Keep playing.”  And as we do, He augments and supplements, until a work of amazing beauty is created.

“Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12)

Sunday

“Up from the grave He arose . . . . ”

Celebrate this fact today in a worship service.  There is no better or more appropriate place to celebrate the fact that He died for our sins and arose on the third day.  He’s now is heaven preparing a place for us and will return to get on one day!

The angel spoke to the women:

“There is nothing to fear here.

I know you’re looking for Jesus,

the One they nailed to the cross.

He is not here.

He was raised, just as he said ….

Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good.
His love endures forever.
Give thanks to the God of gods.

Give thanks to the Lord of lords:
His love endures forever.
To him who alone does great wonders,
His love endures forever.

At the end of a Passover meal, they sang a hymn.

They sang the same hymn at the end of every Passover meal

and they’ve done it for thousands of years.

It is Psalm 136.

MUHAMMAD ALI IS considered the greatest heavyweight boxer of all time…

He won 56 out of his 61 professional fights and knocked out 37 opponents.  His most famous catchphrase was, “I am the greatest.!”

One day, Ali was seated in an airplane when the flight attendant came up the aisle to make sure that all the passengers had their seatbealts fastened.  Reaching Ali’s seat, she asked him to buckle up.

“Hmph!” the champ sneered.  “Superman don’t need no seatbelt!”

The flight attendant smiled sweetly and replied, “Superman don’t need no airplane, either.”

Ali fastened his seatbelt.

to everyone who is among you, not to think of himselfmore highly than he ought to think,

but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.

She is to have 28-30 treatments and it will be done at Mary Bird Perkins, in Covington as they have the particular machine she needs. We could have gone to BR but Covington is closer and not so much traffic. Thanks again for the good wishes and prayers they have gotten us this far and  with God’s help we’ll make this too.

Jadon’s Story: The steroid wean has begun

We have started to decrease my steriods. I’m only getting them 3 times
a day right now. Tomorrow we wean to 2 times a day. My spasms have not
increased any. I’m having about 30-40 a day. They are not very
intense. So the steroids have helped me alot. My therapist have even
noticed how much stronger I’m getting. I haven’t had any side effects
either. My blood pressure has been fine, I haven’t gained any weight,
and I’m definitely not irritable. In fact I’m much happier. We don’t
know what the plan is from here. I go see my neurologist Monday so we
will see what she says. Please pray that we will find the right
medicine to stop these things with few side effects. I have shown so
much potential these last 3 weeks. It’s so sad that we can’t stop
these and allow my brain to work correctly. Keep praying everyone.
Your prayers are working. I’m doing much more than expected.

Taking bread, he blessed it, broke it, and gave it to them, saying,

“This is my body, given for you. Eat it in my memory.”

He did the same with the cup after supper, saying,

“This cup is the new covenant written in my blood,

blood poured out for you.”

The Brevity of Life

The court jester was overcome with grief. His world was at an end! For a long time he had served the Caliph at Baghdad and his court, keeping them amused whenever they called upon him. But in a moment of thoughtlessness he had displeased his ruler who had ordered that he be put to death.

“However,” said the Caliph, “in consideration of the merry jests you’ve told me all these years, I will let you choose how you are to die.”

“O most generous Caliph,” replied the jester, “if it’s all the same to you, I choose death by old age!”

I suppose, if given a choice, that’s the choice all of us would make. Unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately), though, that choice is not ours to make. We know (all too well) the fragile nature of life. And perhaps it is for the best. If we were guaranteed 90 years on this earth, we would be mighty tempted to wait until the last year or so to get serious about God (just like putting off those term papers in college!). With a realization of the uncertainty of life, we recognize the need to be prepared at all times.

“LORD, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am. Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, and my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor.” (Psa. 39:4-5).

May you be prepared for the joys that await when this life is over!
