Lina Warren Brock
(February 21, 1920 – November 27, 2012)

A resident of Amite, she passed away at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 27, 2012 at her home. She was born February 21, 1920 in Lismore, LA and was 92 years of age. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Northwestern Louisiana University in 1942, worked as a Rural Sociologist for LSU Ag Center in Baton Rouge and later taught high school until her retirement. She was known as “The Flower Lady” and received numerous Garden of the Month awards. She is survived by her 4 children, Bettie Johnson and husband, Charles, Thibodaux, Carolyn Helms and husband, Vernon, Schriever, Latimer A. “Bubba” Brock, Jr. and wife, Cecelia, Natalbany and Robbie Davenport, Lismore; 11 grandchildren, Kristin H. LaFleur, Latimer A. “Bub” Brock, III, and wife, Jill, Casey H. Smythe and husband, Jimmy, Jay E. Helms and wife, Rosemary, Dennis Lee Brock and wife, Gretchen, Leslie P. Clifton and husband, Bubba, Cristalle Brock, Amanda P. Coleman and husband, Jeffrey, Rebecca J. Overmier and husband, Scott, Lauren J. Jambon and husband, Ross and James B. Brock; 18 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, Latimer A. Brock, Sr.; son, Ray E. Brock; parents, Pierre and Sally Beard Warren; infant sister, Bettie Etta Warren; second husband, Irvin P. Bernard, Sr. The family would like to thank Community Care Hospice, her two sitters, Jan Hall and her daughter, Robbie, for their dedicated care and service. Reesa Birch DeLee is still in a New York hospital according to the last word I had.  Please pray for this family as they go through a very difficult time.

Mrs. Lina Brock, my biology teacher, passed away.  Please be in prayer for her four children and their families.

Pray for businesses such as Hobby Lobby and Chick-Fil-A and schools such as Liberty University as they stand up for their faith in today’s world.

Thankfulness: Day 28

Today, I’m thankful for leftovers.  I look forward to not having to cook all my foods daily.  I save time when I can serve a prepared food more than one day.  I also get to enjoy some great foods again the are more labor-intensive.  I enjoy other leftovers too – a flower arrangement, a song that lingers in my mind, thoughts of a sermon or lesson, looking at old family or school pictures, shared memories with a friend or relative, etc.  I wish you some great leftovers today, whether it’s the food kind or not.

Thankfulness: Day 27

Today, I’m thankful for rainy days when I can work inside and accomplish things I have on my “To Do” list.  They often become cooking days.  My family never complains about that!  I’m also thankful for the sunny days God sends our way.  He is God and knows what we need.

Thankfulness: Day 26

Today, I’m thankful for music.  I don’t have as wide a range of music appreciation as some people, but I do really enjoy a variety of music.  I like music that conveys a story.  Hymns and gospel music are my favorites.  I’m not the best musician, but my fingers and toes can’t help but tap out the beat.   I appreciate music that sets the mood for a sermon.  Thank musicians for their time and dedication to a talent God blessed them with.

Randy Carl Cutrer
(August 11, 1964 – November 24, 2012)

A resident of Kentwood, he died at 1:25 p.m. on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Ochsner Medical Center in Jefferson. He was born August 11, 1964 in Kentwood and was 48 years of age. He was a hard working boilermaker after being a dairy farmer most of his life. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for 24 years. He loved fishing and hunting. He loved spending time with the grandchildren and they loved their Grampy Randy. Visitation at Spring Creek Baptist Church from 10 a.m. until memorial services at 1 p.m. on Thursday, November 29, 2012. Services conducted by Dr. Danny Smith. He is survived by his wife, Allyce Bridges Cutrer, brother, David Cutrer and wife, Nola, sister, Pamela Smith and husband, Rusty, many loved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, close friends, and Randy and Allyce’s adopted family, Michelle Forrest and her children, Brock Forrest and wife, Heather and Brianne Forrest, The lights of his life, his adopted grandchildren, Brianne’s daughter, Abigayle Forrest and Brock’s sons, Jaxon and Madox Forrest. The missions time at church last night was a continuation of our Sunday School lesson.  Only God could make things like that happen.  Spend some time today praying for those who are sharing God’s word and for those who are still seeking to know Him.

Thankfulness: Day 25

Today, I’m thankful for Sunday School classes.  The small group setting is perfect in may ways – Bible study, prayer, sharing, etc.  I’m glad for my childhood Sunday School classes where I got a good Biblical foundation and my adult Sunday classes where I could grow even more.  Teaching a class allows for the most learning!  It’s easy to really know and love your class members and their families.  I’ve been blessed by my opportunities in Sunday School.

Thankfulness: Day 24

Pray for missionaries, ministers, worship leaders, seminary professors, youth and children ministers, pastors to senior adults, etc. in churches around the world.  Thank God for their acceptance of God’s call on their lives.  Thank God for the impact they make on individuals, families, churches, communities, and the world through their self-less ministries.  Pray that as God continues to call individuals and families, men and women will say “Yes” to His calling.  Thank God for those who share their faith through books, radio and television ministries, seminary and online teaching, etc.  May God richly bless each of you as you bless others and impact the Kingdom!

Pray for travelers on their way home.  We will be saying special prayers for two vehicles traveling back to Georgia today.

Pray for families with members who are sick and for grieving families.

Gloria Miller Milton
(November 29, 1942 – November 22, 2012)

A resident of Amite, she died on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at her home. She was born November 29, 1942 in Independence and was 69 years of age. She is survived by her 5 sisters, Lorraine Singleton, Roseland, Peggy Trabona, Amite, Carol Cosgrove, Ponchatoula, Liz Davis, Amite and Sally Cannon, Amite; 2 brothers, Ken Miller, Amite and Todd Miller, Albany; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Rita Miller; sister, Patricia Easley; brother, Larry Miller. The family would like to thank Generations Hospice and staff for their excellent care. A resident of Amite, she died at 4:12 a.m. on Thursday, November 22, 2012 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born July 4, 1942 in Tangipahoa and was 70 years of age. She is survived by her husband, Edward Ridgedell, Amite; children, Debbie Graham, Kentwood, Charlotte Lee, Osyka, MS, Ronald Lawrence Ridgedell, Livingston, Angelica Ridgedell, Walker, Ronald Bergeron, Amite; sisters, Juanita Ballard, Kentwood, Connie Risen, Pensacola, FL, Diane Creel, Roseland; brother, Ronnie Brown, Roseland; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Brown; brother, Sidney Ray Brown; daughter, Emily Whatinpoo; grandson, Christopher Graham.
