SPECIAL INVITATION – You are invited to attend a Lottie Moon Christmas Tea at Spring Creek Baptist Church Saturday, December 10th.. It will be from 10-12 and is free. (For several years, this annual event was not held due to Covid. The ladies of WMU are anxious to get back in the routine.). Share the invitation with your Sunday School class and your church as a whole.

CHURCH SERVICES are better in person than those we see otherwise, but wonderful when we are not able to attend in person. Sometimes, life throws us issues that make it best to attend online, so I was \ thankful for the opportunity to attend online when I could not attend in person. I’m even more thankful to be able to attend in person.

Saturday

Today, I want to share yesterday’s board from the Atlanta Processing Center for “Shoeboxes”. The first map shows where the volunteers who packed came from. The second map shows where the shoeboxes they packed were being shipped to. I hope you find this interesting. You may want to thank God for all those who helped get the boxes that far, for those who volunteer at the processing centers, for those who will handle the boxes from this point on to their destination, and for the child/family who will be blessed to receive a “Shoebox”.

This week David and I got a good start to our shopping for the next Shoebox packing season. We collect all year long because we pack so many boxes.

Our first “Workday” for the ’23 packing will be the first Saturday of January, the 7th. We appreciate help whether it is children, youth, or adults. It’s such a good way to learn more about those who are working with you.

Please continue to pray for Andy (and Betty) Taylor. He is still in room 3219 at North Oaks.

Thank God for the improvement Bob and Jackie Babin has made recovering from Covid.

Pray for the young lady who left Sumner High yesterday and has not been located. She is 15 year old Sue Ann Williams. Pray she is safe . Also, please pray for her family and friends.

Lori Robert who lives near me lost her mother, Jacqueline Hutchinson Robert, Thursday. She was diagnosed with cancer November 17th. The only service for her will be a private graveside service.

REPORTS FROM OCC PROCESSING CENTERS

I have been especially interested in where “Shoeboxes” are being shipped. This is some of what I read in yesterday’s reports.

Dallas -> Honduras & Peru

Charlotte -> Madagascar, Burundi, Philippines, Hard to Reach Countries

Southern California -> El Salvador, Thailand

Interesting Facts:

  • Filler is used to add to boxes that are not FULL. Some churches send filler in place of or in addition to packing “Shoeboxes.
  • Items like liquids, food, and sharp items like knives are removed. These items are likely to damage other items in the box, be dangerous to the children, or aare not allowed through customs.
  • Items are not removed for any other reason because the workers know each item that is sent is sent for a purpose and the boxes are all prayed over numerous times. Stories are shared about items that seem to be unfit for a child or a particular locations, but later it is learned there was a need or special desire for that item. Example: A child in a hot country received a heavy winter coat and moves to another country where it is much colder within weeeks. It’s a God Wink! We don’t know God’s plans. Another example: A packer sends almost all art supplies. The receiver is very artistic and hopes for a career as an artist. Last example: One box for an older boy contains baby items only to go to a boy with a baby sister who benefitted from the contents. God Wink! This are true accounts I have read or been told.
  • Usually the “Shoeboxes” are the only gift a child receives that year or ever receives.
  • Usually only one box will be given to each child through Samaritan’s Purse. That plan is often questioned, but there are so many children in poor countries that the organization works hard to keep reaching other children each year with the Good News of Jesus and our gifts.
  • Thank-you so much for your donations of gifts, money, and time. Please pray for the boxes to have safe travel to children each year.

THANKFULNESS DAY 27

Today, I am thankful for generous people who contribute items or money for us to spend on shopping, year-round, for the Shoeboxes that are so dear to our hearts. David and I recently have found and purchased plastic animals, school folders, school composition books, coloring books, calculators, and plastic cups. We have purchased some, but are not close to the number of items needed in these and other categories. Thanks to those of you who had helped to make this shopping for the 2023 collection possible. Our hobby now seems to be OCC shopping and the joy is preparing both the items and the shoeboxes for next year. We are thankful to those of you who help us to “keep on shopping”! I’m also thankful for the lady who had seen notebooks in a store this week and asked me if we use them in shoeboxes. We will soon begin to prepare the shoeboxes for our use next year. Who cares if the calendar still says 2022? OCC is “rolling” for 2023!

It was great to have Bro. Darryl and Laurie home from a trip they made last week. What a special service we had last night in the fellowship hall while the children were practicing for their Christmas program which will be at 6 P.M. on December. 11th!

Don’t forget your prayer time today!

THANKFULNESS

Nov. 28 – Today, I am thankful to be able to get up and choose what I want to do, or not do, each morning. I do not have a strict, full schedule as I did for many years of my life. No bells ring to tell me to move on to something else.

READ and WRITE SCRIPTURE TODAY

Nov. 28 – Hebrews 13: 15

Be sure to pray for those on your personal prayer list.
