I want to give a few updates.

  • Glen Magee, Sr, will be having a biopsy in Covington this morning.  Please pray for him and his family.
  • Frances Gay will get test results Tuesday in Covington.  This is her check-up for the problems she has previously had.
  • Buddy Morris will have this three days of chemo in about a week and a half.
  • Eleanor Morris will be scheduling hip surgery that she had planned to have about the time Buddy got sick.  It’s time for her now.
  • David will be receiving test results of the bone marrow test this morning.  I’ll post something again later. At 6:45 last night we had a surprise guest arrive.  Our daughter-in-law drove from Rome, Georgia to be with us today.  My sister, Julie, will also be with us.  Thank-you for your prayers today!

 

 

 

 

Albert W. Magee Jr.

Carencro, Louisiana

Apr 5, 1945 – Oct 13, 2018 (Age 73)

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Friday, October 19, 2018 at 12:00 p.m. in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Albert W. Magee, Jr., age 73, who passed away Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence in Carencro.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. Chaplain Bert Langley will officiate at the services.

Mr. Magee was born in Bogulsa, raised in Kentwood and was a former resident of Baton Rouge, having been a current resident of Carencro for over twenty years. He graduated from Southeastern University. Albert was employed with the Federal Land Bank for thirty two years where he retired as the C.E.O.

Survivors include his loving wife of twenty years, Cheryl Patin Magee of Carencro; two step sons, Miles Doré and his wife, Crystal, of Henderson and Bronson Girouard of Lafayette; one step daughter, Joanie Lillie and her husband, Troy, of Maurice; five step grandchildren, Faith Lillie, Devin Doré, Brayden Girouard, Brennan Girouard and Isabella Lillie; and one sister, Patricia Magee Humphries and her husband, Bennett of Baton Rouge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert William Magee, Sr. and the former, Jemima Roberts, both natives of Kentwood

The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Friday.

Who Will Be in Heaven Because of You?

 

 

Mr. Jimmy Tolar and family watched the LSU game from his hospital room.  They made the most of the day at OLOL.  Mr. Jimmy is continuing to improve with the rehab therapy he is receiving.  Please continue to pray for Mr. Jimmy and “Miss” Naomi.

 

 

Southern Baptist Disaster Relief people are on location and working to help the people who have so many needs caused by Hurricane Michael.  Pray for each volunteer that they are able to help in many ways, especially spiritually, in the coming months.  The need is great.  The volunteers are numerous and trained for the responsibilities they are assuming.  May God be glorified because of work done in the wake of the hurricane.

 

 

 

Tonight,  the Two Rivers Annual Associational Meeting will be held at Montpelier.  Most area Baptist churches will not have regularly scheduled activities so members can be at Montpelier.  Monday morning, the Two Rivers WMU will meet at FBC, Kentwood for a quarterly meeting focusing on mission projects.  I hope many of you will be able to be in attendance at both of these meetings.

 

 

 

I did some shopping for OCC school supplies.  Although I found a plentiful supply of many items, I came home with only one $1.00 calculator.  I hope you will be more fortunate than I was with calculator shopping.  After Monday, I’ll be setting a day for us to work on the new school supplies and get them packed in shoeboxes.  Stay tuned for that date.  The November collection dates will be here before long.  Let’s have our work finished so we can box our boxes the first week of November.  The national collection week is November 12-19.  If you have not returned the boxes you packed, please get them to the church in the next couple of weeks.  Thanks for your help with this project.If you have any questions about Operation Christmas Child, I will do my best to answer them.  If I can’t do that, I know several people who I can refer you to.

 

 

 

Our area churches will soon be collecting stamped Christmas cards for the inmates at the Tangipahoa and St. Helena Parish jails.  They will be due to the first Sunday of December.  I know of some people who have received a Christmas card that we have given.  Both the sender and the receiver were blessed by the cards.  The more cards we turn in, the more people who can/will be blessed.

Please continue to pray for all the people whose lives are forever changed because of Hurricane Michael this week.  This includes the victims and those who are there now and will be there in the future to help the people recover.  I know we all relate to their problems because of hurricanes we have experienced.  We can’t changes the storms of our lifetime, but we certainly can find ways to help those who have been in the storms.  One advantage of being a part of this recovery is to know that many of the volunteers there are Christians who have a special message of Christ’s love for the people.  Christian volunteers help others meet physical and spiritual needs.

He was born January 21, 1935, in Roseland, LA and was 83 years of age. Leshia Newman Rohrer

February 24, 1961 – October 10, 2018

A resident of Franklinton passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born February 24, 1961 in McComb, MS and was 57 years of age. She was a devoted Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Woman’s Hospital in Baton Rouge for 23 years. She was an avid traveler and photography enthusiast. She is survived by her husband, Karl Rohrer; 3 children, Dana Perilloux, Kyle Newman, and Adam Rohrer; 2 grandchildren, Troy and Tyler Perilloux; mother, Lynda Hyde Spears; sister, Sheila Spears; 2 brothers, Trenton A. Spears, and Clint Spears; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Richard “Dickie” Newman; father, Troy A. Spears; and son, Jean-Paul Rohrer. Shawn Alford, David’s nephew, had back surgery yesterday and was able to go home with his family – wife and three daughters.  I know he was well cared for.  Thank you for praying for him yesterday.  Pray for good results.

 

 

Mrs. Mimi Sneed will have outpatient surgery this morning at North Oaks.  Keep her in your prayers.

 

 

Cheryl Wilson‘s first chemo is today.  She and her family are anxious.  Pray for calm spirits all the way through her six months of treatment.

 

 

Bryan Tate has been moved to MDA to continue his treatment.  Pray for him and for his family.

I ask for prayers for David’s nephew, Shaun Alford, who lives in Baton Rouge and works for Exxon.  Shaun, who is about 40, will be having back surgery tomorrow, Tuesday, in Baton Rouge.

 

 

 

The quarterly Two Rivers WMU will meet a week from today at FBC, Kentwood to learn about mission opportunities.   There will be a leadership meeting at 9:00, the meeting at 10:00, and a covered dish meal to finish the morning.  I hope you will attend.

As a part of class last night, the Youth on Mission class learned about storying.   They learned how to share their first passage from Luke 5, the story of the paralyzed man who was lowered through a roof by four friends to the feet of Jesus where he had his sins forgiven and left walking.  I’m sure he had a story to tell about his healing!

Pray for Adrian Phillips as he has another port, the third one, put in so the can have dialysis.  He and Lauree will be appreciative of your prayers.

 

 

 

 

Spephanie Grice’s mom, Cheryl Wilson, learned yesterday that she has a very treatable type of cancer.  Next week, she will begin treatment, one day a week every third  week for six months.  The family seeks your continued prayers.

 

 

 

 

The associational WMU will meet at FBC, Kentwood on Monday, October 15th.  Please be praying for the meeting and planning to be in attendance that day.  A potluck lunch will follow the meeting.

Cheryl Wilson got a better than expected.  The family gives credit to God and to all their prayer warriors.

 

 

 

We saw Mr. Fernie Ray and “Miss” Carol Jean Gill yesterday at a doctor’s office.  I thank God for her recovery from an awful wreck!  I also thank God for her faithful and loving caregiver.

 

 

 

The senior adult revival went well according to the reports I heard.  Pray for the revival today as they meet at FBC, Greensburg.

 

 

“One Day at a Time”  – Thinking of the many people from our area who are sick and the spiritual sickness that is spreading across our country and world, I think this is appropriate for today.

 

 

 

In the midst of a busy time in my life, God has given me an opportunity to speak at an area church.  I pray I can fulfill that request in a way that honors God.

 

 

I think some things we do have to be intensional.  Sometimes, finding a way to be a blessing in one of those.  Let’s focus on others and what God wants us to do today.

The Youth on Mission packed some backpacks which will be sent to the children in Appalachia this week.  Be thankful for what you have and the opportunity to be helping others.  Thank God for the ones making the trip and the sacrifices they have made to be helping those who live in Appalachia.

 

 

Last night at church we had a 5th Sunday singing.  Some of the songs were Andrae Crouch songs.  I was privileged to attend some of his concerts in the 70’s.  One of his songs that was sung last night was “Through it All”.

 

 

There are many who need our prayers.  Write your own list and pray.

Grace Joiner Chadwick, a resident of Roseland passed away on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born November 27, 1921 in Tickfaw and was 96 years of age. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Roseland for 78 years. She is survived by her daughter, Fay Todd and husband, James; son, Bobby Joe Chadwick and wife, Annette; grandchildren, Leticia Brister, Jeffrey Brister, Justin Brister, Robert “Robby” Chadwick, Christina Dupuy and husband, Michael, and Jennifer Bel and husband, John; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Betty Pal, Robert, LA and Gladys Stevens, Burgettstown, PA; 1 brother, Redrick J. Joiner, Loranger; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by husband, William A. “Shorty” Chadwick; parents, Redrick J. I have a long list of people I have loved who no longer walk the face of this earth.  Some were family member, but others were special friends.  Once they are gone from this earth, I can only plan to see them in heaven one day, but when I get there it will be wonderful to again see all of these people who touched my life.  We have to invest our lives in others to realize how important they are to us.
