Saturday

This day I call the heavens and the earth

as witnesses against you

that I have set before you life and death,

blessings and curses.

Now choose life,

so that you and your children may live

~Deuteronomy 30:19~

Pray for Mrs. Bessie Hayden as she lives with eye problems that are continuing to get worse.  She has the best attitude despite her problems.  Keep her in your prayers.

Continue to pray for all the children who are out of school for the summer.  They’re playing ball, swimming, traveling with family, etc.  Pray for safety and for good experiences in all they do.

Pray for our churches as they work overtime to provide opportunities for children during the summer months.  May the activities that are provided help children grow in knowledge and in a relationship to God.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that

supplications, prayers, intercessions,

and giving of thanks be made for all men,

that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life

~1 Timothy 2:1-2~

Any oldtimers that may be so inclined may wish to make donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation or a charity of their choice! A Memorial Service will be held at a later date!

(This is not exactly what I was looking for, but you can probably sing it the way I learned it as a child.)

How wonderful it is for parents to recognize how much their children are learning at church, but it is only because of parents who faithfully see that their children are present that churches can teach their children.  Let’s take time to thank God for parents who faithfully get their children to classes (Sunday School, Missions, Bible Drill, VBS, etc.).  What a blessing it is to see families sitting together, sometimes three or more generations of a family, on a regular basis at church.  As you thank God for those who are present, pray also for other families who have opportunities to begin this wonderful experience for their children.

Sunday

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,

“Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?”

And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”

Josiah  Huckaby – Today our little man is 4 months old…he has been in the NICU for 123 days now. He started having some more trouble breathing and they had to put him back on the vent Thursday night. The nurse practitioner assured us he should be fine and that this is just part of his pulmonary hypertension. The drastic changes in breathing are common in babies with this diagnosis until they recover which can take months. It can be a constant up & down battle. Josiah will most likely be in the hospital for several more months. As far as his feedings, he is doing really well with the g-tube. This has been a fast & long journey so far but so very worth it. We appreciate your continued prayers! God is so good & faithful!!!                                                                                                                                Written by KK Huckaby

“The LORD brings death and makes alive;

 The LORD sends poverty and wealth;

he humbles and he exalts.

~1 Samuel 2:6-7~

This verse doesn’t say so, but he also sends the rain and the sunshine.

Tropical storm “Cindy” will soon be here.  I think I should ask you to be prepared for lots of rain.  My neighborhood will not flood, but I pray for those facing more flooding, especially those who have not recovered from the flood of last August yet.  Remember to take precautions ahead of time. http://www.actionnews17.com/news/tangipahoa-parish-government-monitors-tropical-weather-2124411

Continue to pray for the leaders of our world and our country.

Thank God for the many Vacation Bible Schools in our area this summer.  I love seeing the many pictures posted on Facebook.  I think VBS is the greatest thing churches do for children all year long.  Thankfully, most churches have VBS and invest time, money, and love into it each year.

Friday Morning Bible Study will be at 10 A.M. Friday in the fellowship hall of FBC.

Operation Christmas Child will send “shoeboxes” to thousands of children in November IF we make our purchases and pack the boxes for shipment.  To do this in a big way means we need to shop in a big way beginning now.  Smart shoppers always have their eyes open for sales and for seasonal items.  Those who shop now are welcome to bring their items to my Sunday School room.  I will store them until we pack the boxes.  We want to help some needy children have some special items and INTRODUCE THEM TO JESUS!

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

“When they Ring those Golden Bells”

FBC, Kentwood has their bells(chimes) ringing at times that give people who attend church, but live out of town, get to hear them.  People in town can enjoy them every day. Thanks to those who undertook to purchase the bells years ago and to those who keep them going today.  The music is certainly beautiful.

Make a point of hearing some of the songs that first impacted your live.

you are blessed,

for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

I am happy to report that Denis Travis is doing better.  The last I heard he was still in ICU at North Oaks.

Let’s continue to pray for Steve Scalise and others who were at the ball park in Alexandria, VA yesterday.  God, please turn our people around and help us become a country with a focus on You as we were in the past.

Nikki Rhodus’ grandfather passed away yesterday.  Please be in prayer for her family as they face this great loss.

Looking forward to Father’s Day Sunday.  It’s a great time to honor some special men in your family.

I am loving all the Facebook posts of VBS in area churches.  It’s wonderful to hear of the children’s response to those who volunteer each summer and impact young lives in such a positive way.  God’s kingdom grows through VBS each summer.  May we do our part to nourish the young lives all the rest of the year!

Thanks to those who brought red beans and rice.  They have been delivered to The Hope Center in Roseland and to God’s Storehouse in Amite.  Thank-you for helping meet emergency food needs by local families.

There will be a number of Vacation Bible Schools this week.  If you are on Facebook, you can check my posts of VBS opportunities in different area churches or you can check the posts of various churches to see when each one is having VBS this year.

It’s time to begin thinking of the 350 shoeboxes we will be packing at the end of October.  Please keep your eyes open for hairbrushes, bath soap, calculators, jump ropes, bandanas, small cars and trucks, and small dolls.  You may bring your items to me or to my classroom next to the choir room.  We will need your assistance each month for the next five months.  Let’s get busy and begin accumulating the items we will need for 350 shoeboxes.  Operation Christmas Child is part of Samaritan’s Purse which is under the leadership of Rev. Franklin Graham.  Let’s do our part in accumulating and packing items.  In November, our church will again be a collection site for area churches, clubs, and individuals.  We have ladies available to shop for you if you want to help financially.  I will give you another list of items in about six weeks.

There will be no Third Thursday meeting this week or in the next two months.  We will resume the Third Thursday of September.  I will be happy to share my piano for some sweet hymn singing by everyone.

Have a wonderful Monday.  Remember, to love your neighbor as yourself today.

Anna Lee

Sunday

Greater love has no one than this:

to lay down one’s life for one’s friends

I forgot to share David‘s good news from Friday afternoon.  His eyes are doing great!  The retina specialist said he was graduating David to six months without an appointment.

Speaking of graduating, Mallory did that yesterday, but we did not get to watch it.  The church did not have the wi-fi necessary.  We did see a few pictures and hope to hear a report from the family today.

There have been a couple of area deaths, but I’m waiting for obituaries from the funeral home before I share them.

Read the Bible today – Ecc. 9-12 & Psalm 10

Vacation Bible School is available at several churches today/this week for your children/grandchildren.

Bible Drill class for children will be tonight at 6 P.M.

There will be no Third Thursday Gatherings this summer, but we will resume in September.  I do have my piano in the cabin thanks to a wonderful group of young, strong friends from church.  I’ll be looking forward to a good ole hymn singing time.  Come with a list of favorites!

Have a blessed Lord’s Day!
