Third Thursday at the Cabin

There are old sayings about a little rain keeping people from church.  Once again we had a terrible storm before and during some of our meeting.  We had a great group and a very blessed night despite the storm.  Thanks to all who participated and all who came to listen.  I know we were all blessed!

Don’t let rain today keep you for ministering to others.

Mrs. Hazel Smith is always in good spirits.  She has some good days and some “not so good”. Her family is faithful to visit and help her daily.  She knows she has been richly blessed.  Please continue to pray for this sweet lady.

Mrs. Nita Russell Miller is home and doing well.  Each day, it seems, she is learning one more thing she can do again.  Please keep her in your prayers as she continues on the road to a full recovery.  She is back at home with her daughter, Faibra Cade.

Nita’s daughter, Cathy Russell, has improved greatly and is back to how she was before the hospitalization.  Please continue to pray for her.

Mr. James Frazier had been undergoing lots of tests in Houston this week.  He will have his surgery Friday.  Please pray for him and for his family.

Miss Shira Easley is doing well following her surgery.  The plans are to transport her to Greensburg this afternoon so she can continue to be cared for and and get in more therapy before going home.

Doug Toney had a problem with medication not leaving his body as expected which lowered his blood pressure.  He is getting extra attention and improving.  Please pray for all involved in his care and in his family life.

The Kentwood area had a hailstorm late yesterday afternoon.  It was one of the worse that many of us have experienced.  At this time, I know of no injuries or major damage.

We are looking forward to another “Third Thursday at the Cabin” tonight at 6:30.  I hope we have a house full!

FBC, Kentwood will celebrate the Lord’s Supper Sunday morning.  I’m looking forward to being able to do so with two of my grandchildren for the first time.  I’m so thankful they have made the greatest decision of their lives at a young age.  I’m also thankful all six of my grandchildren have godly parents who had taught their children about God.

The Friday Morning Bible Study will meet at 10:00 in the Fellowship Hall of FBC,Kentwood tomorrow morning.  You are invited to attend and study with us.

Continue to pray for Sherry Day.  She’s thankful to be home.

Salvador Joseph Misita – One of my Amite High School band directors

September 14, 1928 – March 27, 2015

Mr. Salvador was peacefully welcomed to his Heavenly Home on March 27, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. A true gentleman, Sal was known for his compassionate nature and selfless acts of kindness. He never raised his voice and it was not uncommon for him to be forgiving and understanding. A romantic man, Sal would often be noticed giving his wife subtle winks to remind her of his love. Mr. Sal graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University’s music school, and dedicated his life to teaching future generations of young musicians and making them a force to be reckoned with. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and also played trumpet for the Military Band. Some of most treasured pass times included fishing, golfing, and making lasting memories with his family. Salvador is survived by his wonderful wife of 51 years, Hilda Misita, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that refused to leave his side during his long journey. The family would like to offer a special thank you to his gracious caregiver, Essie Price. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Misita; sisters, Jennie Danna and Anna Labruzzo; and brothers, Tony, Vincent, and Roy Misita. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon. G Thompson Funeral Home, in Hammond, on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Dr. Tom Cobb and Father Cayet Mangiaracina will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

Christy Hayne’s dad has had more heart problems which were hopefully corrected with surgery.  He is better and able to be back at home as of yesterday.  Christy is thankful God has more plans for her dad here on earth.  He lives in Florida.

Johnnie “Lil Man” Santangelo has had some new issues and is beginning a new treatment, IV chemo, for brain inflammation and swelling and to restore vision, strength, and tolerance.

Macy Gueldner (Written by her mother)

I’ll be on my way to Baton Rouge after Cate’s soccer practice. I’m switching places with Jeremy tonight, and I’m very happy about it!

Macy is doing fine. All I know about the bacteria is that it’s a bacteria that is usually found in the intestines. I don’t think they’ve identified a specific antibiotic to use, so she’s still on a broad spectrum. They’re in no hurry to release her, so we’ll be a few more days, at least.

Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers. We appreciate everyone’s concern, and it helps to know that we’re surrounded by so much love

Two special monthly events I attended this week:

  • Young at Heart at New Zion was especially meaningful to us as two ladies who are missionary moms attended with one of them speaking.  We formed a special bond in that short time together.
  • We were also blessed by the gathering at the cabin last night.  The group of people and each word spoken/sung seemed to be “just what we needed”.  Two special observations: Our group last night included seven retired teachers.  We heard “Happy Birthday” on the harmonica, a first for most of us!

Next week – “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party

  • Tuesday at 11:00 A.M
  • The Cafe in Kentwood
  • Honors ladies of FBC who have March birthdays

The Hope Center is doing well.

  •  Thank-you for your donations of money and items.
  • If you wish to set up a time to volunteer, please let me know.

Operation Christmas Child

  • Check the bulletin board and table across from the kitchen in the fellowship hall of FBC if you wish to give items for the shoeboxes.  All items will be stored until the fall when we will pack the shoeboxes.
  • Individuals, classes, and groups are encouraged to get involved early this year.

  • Friday mornings at 10 A.M
  • This morning, we are studying Anna.

Koltyn Gafford arrived at his home in Amite about 12:30 yesterday.  He was welcomed by a number of people and numerous blue balloons and blue bows.  The following was written by his dad, Bra.

What amazing day! Kristin and I would like to thank everyone for coming out to support us as we arrived home with our little miracle.
As soon as we got off the Amite exit we were escorted by the Amite Fire & Police Dept. It was so amazing to see all our friends and family along the road waving and displaying their blue ribbons for Koltyn. We can’t thank our community enough for the vast amount of support they have shown us. Please continue to pray for Koltyn’s progress. He is a miracle indeed!!!
