Salvador Joseph Misita – One of my Amite High School band directors

September 14, 1928 – March 27, 2015

Mr. Salvador was peacefully welcomed to his Heavenly Home on March 27, 2015 while surrounded by his loving family. A true gentleman, Sal was known for his compassionate nature and selfless acts of kindness. He never raised his voice and it was not uncommon for him to be forgiving and understanding. A romantic man, Sal would often be noticed giving his wife subtle winks to remind her of his love. Mr. Sal graduated from Southeastern Louisiana University’s music school, and dedicated his life to teaching future generations of young musicians and making them a force to be reckoned with. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and also played trumpet for the Military Band. Some of most treasured pass times included fishing, golfing, and making lasting memories with his family. Salvador is survived by his wonderful wife of 51 years, Hilda Misita, as well as numerous nieces and nephews that refused to leave his side during his long journey. The family would like to offer a special thank you to his gracious caregiver, Essie Price. He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Misita; sisters, Jennie Danna and Anna Labruzzo; and brothers, Tony, Vincent, and Roy Misita. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at Brandon. G Thompson Funeral Home, in Hammond, on Monday, March 30, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. with the recitation of the rosary beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Dr. Tom Cobb and Father Cayet Mangiaracina will officiate the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.

John Orr‘s surgery Wednesday went well.  He is home in Sulphur Springs, TX now with family staying with him.  He bounces back real well for someone 88.5.  The doctor said the tumor on his bladder would not have given him any trouble for about 15 more years.  The gall bladder was full of stones and should be better now.

Pray for James Frazier.  He goes to Houston Monday for heart valve replacement surgery. Your prayers will be appreciated.

Pray for Shira Easley too.  She will have surgery in Covington Monday, the 19th.  She also would appreciate your prayers.

Sherry Smith Sasson is doing very well following her surgery.  She is at home.

West Rome Baptist Church offers immersive ‘Journey’ event through Jesus Christ’s last days on earth

Floyd – Rome november – rome northwest gerogia credit union – new ad

Posted: Thursday, April 2, 2015 8:00 am
The members of West Rome Baptist Church are inviting everyone to immerse themselves in the moments that led to the crucifixion of Jesus Christ through a special, self-guided tour.
The event — Journey to the Cross — began Wednesday evening and continues today from 6-9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Good Friday at the 914 Shorter Ave. church.
Admission is free. Beginning with The Last Supper, visitors are able to wander freely through areas set up to resemble the places where important events in Christ’s final hours took place.
People can go through the Garden of Gethsemane, the courtyard where Christ was taken to see Pontius Pilate, and then the place of his crucifixion and resurrection.
“Our members and volunteers worked really hard to make each setting as realistic as possible,” Pastor Jarrod Roberts said.
Along the way, notes and displays contain biblical passages and information about certain items and how they relate to the scene.
Everyone who attends gets a reference book to follow along with. It also contains links to get information on a mobile device, including videos that correspond to each area.
A scavenger hunt is available for children, and guests may take communion at the end of the program.
“We really feel that if a person comes through, they have worshipped the Lord,” Roberts said.
This is the second year that West Rome Baptist has organized the event.
It was only held from 6-9 p.m. last year on Good Friday, and Roberts said more than 700 people of all ages participated.
“It really blew us away,” Roberts said. “So this year we wanted to have it opened as many times as possible.”
By being open all day on Good Friday, Roberts said he hopes people will be moved to come and spend more time going through the exhibits.
“One of the things about last year was we had a lot of people in line, so you were kind of forced to immediately move on to the next thing,” Roberts said. “You didn’t have time to reflect on the moment and the message.”
Both adult and child programs are offered for the event along with a special walk-through for college students.

Christy Hayne’s dad has had more heart problems which were hopefully corrected with surgery.  He is better and able to be back at home as of yesterday.  Christy is thankful God has more plans for her dad here on earth.  He lives in Florida.

I’ll be on my way to Baton Rouge after Cate’s soccer practice. I’m switching places with Jeremy tonight, and I’m very happy about it!

Macy is doing fine. All I know about the bacteria is that it’s a bacteria that is usually found in the intestines. I don’t think they’ve identified a specific antibiotic to use, so she’s still on a broad spectrum. They’re in no hurry to release her, so we’ll be a few more days, at least.

Thank you for all of the thoughts and prayers. We appreciate everyone’s concern, and it helps to know that we’re surrounded by so much love

Two special monthly events I attended this week:

  • Young at Heart at New Zion was especially meaningful to us as two ladies who are missionary moms attended with one of them speaking.  We formed a special bond in that short time together.
  • We were also blessed by the gathering at the cabin last night.  The group of people and each word spoken/sung seemed to be “just what we needed”.  Two special observations: Our group last night included seven retired teachers.  We heard “Happy Birthday” on the harmonica, a first for most of us!

Next week – “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party

  • Tuesday at 11:00 A.M
