David Wickham (From Cissy, his wife)

Update on David
Day 18 in ICU: they removed the bladder catheter, stomach catheter and staples yesterday.  He sat up in the chair a total of 12 hours.  He sat 8 hours, then took a break and then sat up again for four hours.  He does have increased pain from some sutures that became infected.  They will be using the wound vac today. He is still retaining a lot of fluid which prevents him from bring weaned from the oxygen to a level that will allow him to
Leave ICU.  He is at the point where he needs to push himself to be more mobile and do the exercises past his comfort level.  He had his 1st meal  today- vegetable broth, Apple juice and orange jello.  All of his favorites 😊. I was proud of him – he managed to force it down.  Thank you for your continued support to us. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Anne Hurst is in room 10 at the St. Helena Hospital.  I know she would love to hear from/see you.  Keep her in your prayers.

Mansell Stinson went back for a check-up yesterday.  James Rimes, who took him, said that for the first time, Mansell seems to be “pain-free”!  Let’s pray he can stay that way.

Kenny Ray Gill went in for double knee replacement, but did not have surgery because he had some sort of an insect bite.  So, surgery will be rescheduled for a later time.

Lisa Pitri received a wonderful report and will not need additional treatments, only periodic check-ups for now.

Bob Brooks who was hospitalized briefly is now home.  Please keep him in your prayers.

Connor Corkern is still at Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, but is improving.  If he continues to do well, he will be coming back to Kentwood soon.

Lisa W. Carruth is in Baton Rouge for a procedure today.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Continue to pray for Mrs. Hazel Smith.  She is at home.

Continue to pray for Barbara Hurchinson.  She has a few more days of rehab/physical therapy in Hammond before coming back to Kentwood.

Operation Christmas Child (Shoeboses)

Even though we have our boxes packed and waiting for the collection centers to open, let’s pray for other churches/schools/organizations that are still working on their shoeboxes.  Let’s also pray for the children who will receive each box and each member of the families where the boxes will find a home.  May many of the children and families meet Jesus through the shoebox!

Sunday Afternoon

Ladies, gentlemen, boys, and girls,  this is one of the busiest weeks I can remember, but it is also one of the most important. I hope you will be a part of any or all of the ones that fit your schedule.

Monday at 10:00, we begin a new association WMU year. Ladies, we will meet at 10:00 at New Zion Baptist Church and end with a potluck meal. In the middle, you will find lots of information information, a new handbook, a mission activity that is good for all ages, a calendar of events, etc. The speakers will share about Disaster Relief. Mrs. Anne Hurst is one of the speakers. Come support her.

Thursday, is our Ladies (and girls) Night. The theme is “Count Your Blessings”. That’s just what we will be doing. We meet at 6:15 to eat a little before the real meeting begins. Don’t miss our fall gathering.

Friday morning at 10:00 we will work in the fellowship hall to prepare our goodies for the 300 shoeboxes. If you are willing and available, we would love to have you.

Saturday we may need to finish up a few things in preparation, but we won’t know for use until Friday. At 6:00, join us wearing your Christmas colors/sweaters. Bring your favorite Christmas finger foods for everyone to sample. We have 300 shoeboxes to pack and send to 300 boys and girls. We will hopefully have things arranged so it should go smoothly like it did last year. The children who normally meet on Sunday night will join us to help pack the boxes. It will be a fun night and bless our hearts here. In a month or so, the boxes will bless the hearts and lives of 300 boys and girls. I hope they also learn about Jesus and invite Him into their hearts.

If you or anyone you know would like to send a note and/or a picture in a shoebox, they can bring it that night. If anyone would like to write multiple note and/or send multiple pictures, please feel free to do so. You can even pick the boxes to put your notes and pictures into.

Yes, it is going to be busy, but it is all going to be very worthy of each minute we invest in God’s work!

Friday

“This is what the LORD Almighty says:

‘In a little while I will once more

shake the heavens and the earth,

the sea and the dry land.

I will shake all nations,

and the desired of all nations will come,

and I will fill this house with glory,’

says the LORD Almighty.

Dr. Stan Statham asked that we pray for the family of Rev. Troy Bankston, a former pastor of Mr. Nebo Baptist Church, at the time of his death.

Connor Corkern was found to have pneumonia.  The family is very thankful for the quick response of medical staff who assessed Connor’s situation and got him to Children’s Hospital so quickly and for those who immediately began to pray and sent out the need on their prayer chains.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher seems to be having a little relief from some of the problems she has experienced this week.  Pray for a good day today.

Clark Wilson is a son-in-law of John and Inez Bond of the Terry’s Creek community.  Clark has been very ill.  The family including nine children, who dedicate themselves to singing and serving God, will host a gospel singing Saturday at Terry’s Creek Baptist Church at 7 P.M. to help defray some of the medical expenses that have accumulated.  You are invited to join them in worship Saturday.

Please continue to pray for Kerry Blades and Casey Blades and their families.

“This is what the LORD Almighty says:

Administer true justice;

show mercy and compassion to one another.

Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,

the alien or the poor.

In your hearts do not think evil of each other.’

Zechariah 7:9-10

(I think these two verses give us all something to work to improve this week!)

David Wickham’s surgery will begin soon.  I trust your prayers for him have already started.  How about trying something special for him today?  Write his name on three pieces of paper and put them in three different places you see in your house often.  For example, put one on the door to the refrigerator.  As you see the papers today, pray for David, his family, and the medical staff.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher and her family seem to be on a roller-coaster ride.  Please pray for them as they face a new week.

Susan Rimes was able to be at Sunday School and church for the first time in a couple months.  Please pray for relief from her problems

Mrs. Catherine Yarborough is still at Greensburg.  Pray with her that she can go home soon.

Third Thursday at the Cabin

We will gather at the cabin at 6:30 Thursday for another evening of Christian fellowship, a meal, a devotional, and some music.  If these things might bring encouragement to you, please join us.

Washcloths, toothpaste. and hair brushes are the items we need the most to complete our shoeboxes.  Please help us get enough for all the boxes we are sending this year.

We need stamps for Christmas cards for local prisoners.  Please buy stamps by the books and turn in.  I already have the cards.  We’ll be collecting these for about six weeks.

How wonderful it was to be at The Lord’s Church last night for our associational meeting! Not only did we get to hear/see reports from various groups, hear a pastor from Florida share, hear a combined choir, and enjoy some refreshments, but we also enjoyed seeing many pastor friends and members of area churches.  May God bless the effort of our people as we strive to serve Him better this year than ever before.  May we do this through a renewal of our prayer efforts and then, our actions.
