Josiah and Job Huckaby

Josiah had a rough day yesterday. He started requiring even more oxygen & they had to start increasing some of his vent settings. His chest X-ray looked fine & I requested an echo to make sure his pulmonary hypertension isn’t out of control. We don’t have those results just yet. He looked so pitiful yesterday afternoon & he started running a fever. After some Tylenol & a pretty good nap he seemed to feel better. They are thinking this is probably the “getting worse before he gets better” stretch. He also doesn’t know how to just rest. As soon as he feels the slightest bit better, he’s a wild man! He has a tendency to push himself until he just gets completely worn out and has to rest….which I feel is probably what happened yesterday on top of the rhinovirus. The dr also said that rhinovirus can last 2-3 weeks so he could still have a while before he’s really feeling 100%. Thanks for all the prayers!!! Job is feeling better & I’m still praying I don’t get that crazy stomach bug! It’s been a long 10 days away from home & I’m pretty sure Josiah is as over this hospital stay as I am.

Brad slipped and fell Monday. He has a badly bruised hip. Betty fell at home yesterday. Pray for Betty and Brad. We all need to be careful so we don’t fall.

The knee surgery went well Monday. Kenneth is home and will be working to get around well on his new knee. Pray all continues to go well.

Thursday – Boxes transported to church from hammond & shoebox items moved in preparation for packing (1 P.M.) Men!
Friday – Room and items organized (8 A.M.) Ladies and men!
Saturday – Packing Party (1 P.M.) Wear Christmas colors and bring Christmas snacks. Everyone!
Sunday – Remainder of funds for postage will be collected.
November 18-25 – Kentwood will serve as a drop-off location for shoeboxes from area churches. Check the Samaritan’s Purse webpage for hours of collection. They will vary from day-to-day.
Be sure to join us in praying for the children who will receive the boxes. Each box will impact seven people in the family by introducing them to Jesus. Can you put a dollar value on that?

Thanks to all who helped prepare for and attended the WMU meeting Monday in Kentwood. I understand Barbara Forshag did a great job presenting information about her mission trips to Central America. The Annual World Day of Prayer meeting will be at Kedron Baptist Church Monday, November 4 at 10 A.M. Please bring a covered dish for the meal after the meeting. Mark your calendar.

OUT OF HOSPITAL THIS MORNING. DR. REPORTS SHOWED NO BLOOD CLOTS ON BRAIN NOR DID IT SHOW A STROKE OF EITHER. THIS IS NOT A BRAIN PROBLEM WITH MY EYES. HE TURNED ME BACK OVER TO MY EYE DOCTOR TOMORROW BECAUSE IT HAD A RETINA PROBLEM. AFTER SHE DECIDES WHAT TO DO I WILL ADVISE YOU. WE HAD A REVIVAL THERE IN THE HOSPITAL. EVERYONE WAS SO HAPPY IT WAS MOT A BRAIN PROBLEM. GOD IS IN CONTROL AND IF THERE WAS A BLOOD CLOT IT IS NOT THERE NOW.
PRAISE THE LORD! THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS. PRAYER WORKS MY FRIENDS! I APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU. NOW TIME FOR SOME REST. THOSE STEROID SHOTS KEPT ME AWAKE. EVERYONE WAS GREAT AT NORTH OAKS HOSPITAL. THANKS TO ALL GREAT DOCTORS AND NURSES. (STILL NOT SEEING WELL SO I HOPE ALL THIS MADE SENSE).

Buddy Morris and family had a reason for a celebration. He celebrated one year free of cancer after her had treatment. The family is praising and thanking God.

Mr. John Phillips, who lives in my neighborhood, fell again. Pray for him as he recovers.

Mrs. Nita Russell Miller also fell. She had a double break in her hip and other injuries. Please pray for her too.

There will be a lot happening at FBC, Kentwood this week. It all starts with the associational WMU meeting Monday (today) morning and ends with a packing party for the shoeboxes Saturday at 1 P.M. Wednesday, we will have pray meeting and activities for the children and the youth. Don’t miss out!

A resident of Amite and a former resident of Kentwood, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at Richard Murphy Hospice House in Hammond. She was born June 24, 1947 in New Orleans and was 72 years of age. She is survived by her children, Russell Walker and wife, Melinda; Judy Walker, Debbie Foster, Justin Lee, and William Carl Hayes; grandchildren, Amanda Walker, Russell Walker, II, Peyton Walker, Amy Turbeville, Bryan Knight, Shawn Walker, Josh Beddingfield, Keri Newman, Charleigh Rose Lee; great-grandchildren, Amiah Walker, Alyssee Walker, Annsley Walker, Cassie Knight, Weslynn McElwee, Thomas Turbeville, Bella Newman, Jayden Newman, Lexi Walker, Janel Walker, and Bryleigh Knight; great-great-grandson, Nathan Jones; sister, Sandy Welch. Today, I want to start by saying we got a great rain yesterday. I know God’s timing is always right, so I am thankful it was our turn to get some rain.

Josiah Huckaby

Josiah is definitely feeling better today. He’s been awake way more today than yesterday. He is still requiring quite a bit of oxygen but I feel like he’s kind of stabled out with that for now. The PICU dr today feels most of his symptoms are viral vs infection. He did test positive for rhinovirus, which is very common. Most kids don’t even know they have it but for kids like Josiah, it can cause some major issues. They have also narrowed down which bacteria is growing in his trach so we know exactly what he needs to be treated with. The current plan is to discharge when he gets back to his normal 0.5 L of oxygen. We have no clue when that will be. I figure at least another day or so because he’s currently on 3 L with his sats are hanging out at the lower end of his allowed range.

And if you were curious about what he’s up to, here’s a pic…he’s just hanging out with his feet propped up, watching Disney Jr while playing with his toy. 😎

Two Time Changes

On Nov. 3rd, we change our clocks back one hour. Do something special for one hour that day with the extra hour.
The Operation Christmas Child Packing Party at FBC, Kentwood will begin at 1 P.M., rather than 6 P.M. We will be able to pack the shoeboxes and finish at a more reasonable time.

“Shoeboxes” – If you want to pack a shoebox(es) as a family project, please let me know. (You can message me here, see me at church, or give me a call at home.) I can provide you with a red and green official box(es). You still have a month to pack them, so it is not too late. FBC, Kentwood packs their boxes early so we can prepare to be a drop-off site in November.

Postage for Shoeboxes – It costs $9.00 to ship each box. As of the end of last week, we had collected about 70% of the amount we need to ship the FBC boxes. You can give in the church office any day or put your donation in the offering plate Sunday morning if you choose to do so. Thanks to those who have helped with postage. You are greatly appreciated!

Please pray for my classmate, Barbara Daniel Yerby, who lives in Amite. Barbara has double pneumonia.

Tomorrow night the Two Rivers Associational Annual Meeting will be held at Roseland. It is always interesting and you get to see your friends from other area churches. The meeting begins at 6 P.M.

Thanks to those who supported shoeboxes by providing postage. Postage is $9.00 per shoebox. If you didn’t contribute to the items inside the box, maybe you would like to provide the shipping of some boxes. Remember, each shoebox touches seven lives!

Our “shoebox” packing party will be Saturday, October 26 at 6 P.M. in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood. You are encouraged to wear Christmas colors and to bring a Christmas snack to share with the other packers. This is an awesome experience for all who participate. I cannot tell you, but if you participate your heart will be touched.

Fieldon John Fulda

April 30, 1931 – October 08, 2019

Fieldon John Fulda, a resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Tuesday, October 8, 2019 at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, LA. He was born April 30, 1931 in Camden, AR and was 88 years of age. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and teacher.

He was a music educator for over five decades, including Southeastern Christian College and Burgin High School in Kentucky; and at Amite High School, where he taught band and choir for 28 years. He loved his band and choir “kids” through whom his legacy continues. He is also a retired Church of Christ minister serving in Indiana, Kentucky and Louisiana. He received his Bachelor of Music Degree from LSU and Master’s Degree from SLU. He was proud to be a member of the Golden Band from Tigerland and was a lifelong LSU sports fan, beginning as a Boy Scout assisting spectators. His voice will be missed during the national anthem and alma mater at LSU home football games. He was a featured soloist in numerous oratorios and other religious works throughout the U.S. and performed in and directed local theater productions. For many summers he was the director at Antioch Music Camp in Kentucky.

He was an alumnus of Amite High School, where he was a member of the Key Club and was elected Tri-State Governor. He was a co-founder of the Tangi Dog Training Club and a member of the Amite Arts Council. He loved reading, fishing, and was an avid beekeeper.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Clytae Wright Fulda; three daughters, Jana Fulda Russell and Greg, Lisa Caryn Fulda and David Lam, and Beth Fulda van Mullem and Robbie; grandchildren Johanna Garland-Fulda Russell, Lauren Ansley van Mullem and Julia Catherine van Mullem; brother George Earle Fulda, Sr., step-grandchildren Sarah and Jerod King, Megan and Mark McCarver, Justin and Lydia Russell, and Benjamin and Katy Russell; and nieces and nephews Chuck, Cindy, George and Nina. Preceded in death by his parents, Charles Julius Fulda, Jr. and Georgie Virine Stafford Fulda; brother, Charles Julius “Pete” Fulda, III. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5:00PM until 9:00PM on Sunday and from 9:00AM until Religious Services at Amite Church of Christ at 11:00AM on Monday, October 14, 2019. David had lab work, saw a NP, and got his weekly injection of Procrit yesterday. The good news is that his blood level held at 8.6, which is good for him. As always, we are so thankful for your prayers. Please feel free to continue to pray for us.

Jonathan Edward Serigne

Jonathan Edward Serigne, AKA Batman, took final flight October 4, 2019. As a Holy Cross alumnus of 2001, he made it just in time to get the best seats for the hundredth game against Jesuit. Jonathan always lived life to the fullest and encouraged others to do the same. His infectious smile, confident personality, and caring demeanor attracted friendships everywhere he went. Even in his final days, he kept a smile on his face. Along with Holy Cross, he loved his LSU tigers, Nicholls Colonels, fraternity TKE and Saints. He leaves behind a wife, Randi Rousseau Serigne, two children, Jacques and Stella Serigne, his father and mother, Jack and Bonnie Serigne, brother and sister, Jack Serigne III and Stephanie Kostopoulos, and dozens upon dozens of grieving and loving family and friends. Losing him has left a void in all of us and is apparent by the number of people who’ve prayed and reached out to him. Just like Batman, he has one super power, he never gave up! He fought to stay with those who loved him till the very end. We all hope to see him again, as Jonathan would say, “same bat time, same bat channel.” Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Wednesday, October 9, 2019 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will begin at 2:00 PM. Interment will be private. To celebrate and honor the life of Jonathan, the family requests guests wear their favorite Batman inspired attire.

Scripture Writing – October 4 – I Timothy 6: 11-13

I have no idea how many students took their Bibles to school yesterday, but for each one who did, I am thankful. I’m even more thankful for the students who attend church each week and read their Bible. It’s important that each one makes a choice to follow Jesus.

We have almost painted enough shoeboxes. Tomorrow, we will be working from 8:00-11:00 A.M. to finish up. Our packing party is three weeks from tomorrow. Let me know if you will be available to help finish the preparations. Mark you calendar for the last Saturday of the month so you won’t miss the packing party! We always have a great time as we put all the items in the boxes and prepare for shipping.

Mattie’s Miracles – Great news this morning…no malignant cells found in the lymph node biopsy! God is so very good ALL the time! Thank you to Our faithful prayer warriors. We appreciate you so very much!!

Johathan Serigne‘s family appreciate your prayers Monday night. They also asked everyone to pray for him at 8:30 last night. I wasn’t home and didn’t get that request posted in time. I’ll try to post again when I hear an update.

Today is the day Rev. Franklin Graham as asked people all across our country to pray for President Trump. No matter your political opinion, praying for our country’s leadership is always appropriated. Please take time to pray for President Trump and other leaders today.

Tomorrow is Bring Your Bible to School Day. Please pass the word to students so than can make a decision about doing so tomorrow. You may want to read the article in the Baptist Message, https://baptistmessage.com/.

We are making progress on painting the shoeboxes. We will paint tomorrow at 1 P.M. Join us if you can. I think by the time we paint tomorrow and Saturday morning we will have enough boxes ready for all the boys and girls we plan to pack a box for at the end of the month. Packing and shipping the boxes is a great reward as we think about the boys and girls who will receive the boxes in 2020. We have a few steps between painting and packing that we will be taking care of in the coming weeks. You can pray for the packing and shipping as well as praying for the recipients.

Two Rivers WMU will be meeting at FBC, Kentwood on October 16th at 10 A.M. You are invited to attend.
