Saturday

It is for freedom that Christ has set us free.

Stand firm, then,

and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

~Galatians 5:1~

THANK YOU ALL so much for the Prayers! GOD IS GOOD! ……..

I kindly ask that you remember her in your prayers. God hears them all.                                                                                      Denise LaBarbera Rose

Friday

So if the Son sets you free,

you will be free indeed.

~John 8:36~

Pray for Mr. Kent Raiford of Arcola as he undergoes tests to determine why there has been a sudden change in his health.

Tish Fairburn received a good report in Houston.

Went back to Dr. Oki in Houston today. More good news. There is only one spot that has lymphoma. He was expecting more. Since it is only one, I am going to have 12 radiation treatments. He said that should kill it. Start treatments on July17th. I am living proof that God does do miracles. So thankful for that.

Pray for Josiah Huckaby, son of Job and K.K.

We’ve had quite a few people asking about Josiah…so here’s an update: He is doing good. He is up to 8 lb.. 5.5oz. We had a set back with his lungs so he is on a Bubble CPAP now. They have been able to wean him some but it has been very slowly. As far as his g-tube, he is doing well with that. They are working towards weaning him down to 30 minute feeds every 3 hours. Still no idea when he will get to come home. One of the doctors told us he probably has a long way to go since this last set back. Today is day 114 in the NICU but God is so good & He has been so faithful to us. We have also been blessed by so much kindness during the last 3.5 months and we can’t express the gratitude & love that overwhelms our hearts…y’all know who you are.

Mr. J.D. Smith celebrated his 84th birthday in rehab with lots of attention from his family.  Pray for him as he continues rehab on his new shoulder.

I keep my eyes always on the LORD.

With him at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

~Psalm 16:8~

Pray for Miss Fay Shoemaker who has been “under the weather”.  Add her to your prayer list.

Mrs. Bobbie Magee braved being out of her home environment to attend church Sunday.  I was so glad to see her.  She was very ill, but has come so far in her recovery.  Thank God for her improvement.

Mr. J.D. Smith has been moved to AMG Rehab and will begin his “work” there in the morning.  He’ll need to be on our prayer lists for a while as he regains use of that shoulder

Saturday

We’ve had many days of bad weather.  Today, it finally delayed posting TPL.  First, my satellite was down.  When it came it, the server for TPL needed to be rebooted.  Such is the story of the technology we love to use each day.

Husbands, love your wives,

just as Christ loved the church

and gave himself up for her

Two couples we know celebrated 50 years of marriage yesterday.  When couples stay married that long, love surely is a part of the marriage.  That is because God is the third member of the team.

Pray for the youth from several area churches as they continue their long trip to camp today.  I’m so glad each youth and each adult got to go.

Pray for Courtney Creel who will soon be going on a mission trip to Guatemala with a church from Birmingham.

Two area churches are having special events tomorrow.

  • Pine Ridge will have their monthly breakfast to raise funds for a needy cause.  The breakfast buffet will be served at 8 A.M.
  • Taylor Creek will formally celebrate the change of their name at 10:30 tomorrow.

Read the Bible – Jeremiah 30-32, Psalsm 21, and the video “The Law” found at jointhebibleproject.com

Be sure you clear your calendar so you can be in the Lord’s house somewhere tomorrow.

Tuesday

“The LORD brings death and makes alive;

he brings down to the grave and raises up.

 The LORD sends poverty and wealth;

he humbles and he exalts.

~1 Samuel 2:6-7~

This verse doesn’t say so, but he also sends the rain and the sunshine.

Tropical storm “Cindy” will soon be here.  I think I should ask you to be prepared for lots of rain.  My neighborhood will not flood, but I pray for those facing more flooding, especially those who have not recovered from the flood of last August yet.  Remember to take precautions ahead of time. http://www.actionnews17.com/news/tangipahoa-parish-government-monitors-tropical-weather-2124411

Continue to pray for the leaders of our world and our country.

Thank God for the many Vacation Bible Schools in our area this summer.  I love seeing the many pictures posted on Facebook.  I think VBS is the greatest thing churches do for children all year long.  Thankfully, most churches have VBS and invest time, money, and love into it each year.

Read the Bible – Jeremiah 14-17 & Psalm 17

Friday Morning Bible Study will be at 10 A.M. Friday in the fellowship hall of FBC.

Operation Christmas Child will send “shoeboxes” to thousands of children in November IF we make our purchases and pack the boxes for shipment.  To do this in a big way means we need to shop in a big way beginning now.  Smart shoppers always have their eyes open for sales and for seasonal items.  Those who shop now are welcome to bring their items to my Sunday School room.  I will store them until we pack the boxes.  We want to help some needy children have some special items and INTRODUCE THEM TO JESUS!

“Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

~Colossians 3:2 NIV~

“When they Ring those Golden Bells”

FBC, Kentwood has their bells(chimes) ringing at times that give people who attend church, but live out of town, get to hear them.  People in town can enjoy them every day. Thanks to those who undertook to purchase the bells years ago and to those who keep them going today.  The music is certainly beautiful.

Make a point of hearing some of the songs that first impacted your live.

Dennis Travis is out of North Oaks and doing much better.  Thank you for praying for him.

Pray for Mrs. Anne Hurst as she has an MRI on her knee Wednesday and then gets results.

Mr. J.D. Smith will be having shoulder surgery next week.  Pray all goes well and the surgery relieves him of his pain.

Pray for the youth of FBC, Kentwood, New Zion, and Spring Creek as they go to camp in GA at the end of this week.  Pray for the Lord to touch hearts, friendships to be strengthened, and for traveling grace.  I thank God the children will have this opportunity.

Read the Bible – Jeremiah 10-13 & Psalm 16.

Operation Christmas Child – Bring your toy donations to my classroom before Sunday School.  Remember, everything we send must fit in one shoebox, so think of small dolls, cars, jump ropes, stuffed animals, etc.

The Bible Study of Ezekiel continues Friday morning at 10.

Opportunities for your children and grandchildren

  • Missions class at 6 P.M. Wednesdays
  • Bible Drill class at 6 P.M. Sundays

Our Sunday School Lesson on the Good Samaritan left us with the command to “Do!”. May we all learn the things that are important, for example, caring for others, and “do” them

May the Lord watch our and guide the leaders of the many countries around the world.

Monday

Remember the wonders he has done,

his miracles,

and the judgments he pronounced.

Mrs. Estelle Raborn is home again from North Oaks.  Please be in prayer for her and Mr. Bobby each day.

Pray for two of our grandchildren who will make their first international flights without their parents Monday and Tuesday.  They are very experienced travelers having flown regularly since they were babies.

Reading the Bible – Ecc. 5-8 & Psalm 9

Thanks to those who brought red beans and rice.  They have been delivered to The Hope Center in Roseland and to God’s Storehouse in Amite.  Thank-you for helping meet emergency food needs by local families.

There will be a number of Vacation Bible Schools this week.  If you are on Facebook, you can check my posts of VBS opportunities in different area churches or you can check the posts of various churches to see when each one is having VBS this year.

It’s time to begin thinking of the 350 shoeboxes we will be packing at the end of October.  Please keep your eyes open for hairbrushes, bath soap, calculators, jump ropes, bandanas, small cars and trucks, and small dolls.  You may bring your items to me or to my classroom next to the choir room.  We will need your assistance each month for the next five months.  Let’s get busy and begin accumulating the items we will need for 350 shoeboxes.  Operation Christmas Child is part of Samaritan’s Purse which is under the leadership of Rev. Franklin Graham.  Let’s do our part in accumulating and packing items.  In November, our church will again be a collection site for area churches, clubs, and individuals.  We have ladies available to shop for you if you want to help financially.  I will give you another list of items in about six weeks.

There will be no Third Thursday meeting this week or in the next two months.  We will resume the Third Thursday of September.  I will be happy to share my piano for some sweet hymn singing by everyone.

Have a wonderful Monday.  Remember, to love your neighbor as yourself today.

Saturday

… to them I will give within my temple and its walls

a memorial and a name

better than sons and daughters;

I will give them an everlasting name

that will endure forever.

Today, our oldest granddaughter  will graduate from Christian International School of Prague at 11:30 A.M. (our time).  This will be a big step for her as she leaves Prague in a couple of days to come stateside for the summer and then go to Baylor University for her first semester.  It also will be a tremendous change for her parents and siblings as the family unit of everyday life will be broken as the first child leaves home.  As you pray for her, please pray for her parents and siblings.

VBS ended with a loud bang and lots of energy at FBC, Kentwood last night.  We are so thankful for all the children who attended and pray their lives were enriched. We were blessed by many wonderful volunteers, adults and youth, who made every activity possible.  Parents were faithful in getting their children to the church each day.  There was great success when everyone worked together.  We were blessed to have children make decisions that will change their lives eternally.  I would gladly start again Monday because there was so much that I personally gained to.  Each private conversation and hug meant so much to me.  It was a blessing when they told what they learned.  Yes,  hearts were certainly touched this week.

The Third Thursday gatherings will be on hold until September.  This is the first summer break we have ever taken, but our family activities and company schedule is more complicated this year.  I always look forward to the next gathering and realize that if we wait until September for our next meeting I will really have high expectations for that gathering.

Friday

This is how we know what love is:

Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

And we ought to lay down our lives

for our brothers and sisters.

Suzie Eads is very concerned about this accident involving a van on a mission trip.
Please join us in praying for the students, their families, and leaders from Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Huntsville, Ala. who were involved in a bus accident near Atlanta on their way to a short-term mission trip in Botswana. Please pray for God’s peace and healing for all involved.
Mr. Harlon Toney is home and having family assistance 24 hours/day.  Today is his 89th birthday!
