Please pray for Jeana Russell Lee-Newman.  It seems she is headed for another surgery.  She requests prayers the infection can be cleared without having an additional surgery.

 

 

 

We saw Jimmy and Linda Williams.  He still has some heart issues that are being addressed.  Please pray for him.

 

 

 

Pray for David as he continues to undergo tests to identify his problem.  Thank-you!

 

 

 

Camp Living Waters had a fire recently that burned a she, mowers, etc.  Now, they have a new problem.

My apologies for anyone who has been trying to contact us this week. Last Thursday we were hit by lightning. More specifically we lost phone system, internet, computers, printer, kitchen a/c and a few other things. We now have telephone and some internet. Kitchen staff is very thankful to Darrin Fairburn for working through the night to get air back to the kitchen. One day at a time. When God is at work Satan has to work overtime.

Glen and Lisa Magee are in Tampa preparing for another surgery which will be done Friday.  Please continue to pray for them and the medical staff they will be seeing.

 

 

Bro. Chip Sloan had surgery yesterday morning for a brain tumor.  The surgery went well.  The results – benign!  There was a family celebration at the UNC hospital as they thanked God.

 

 

Theople Hurst‘s surgery involved a surprise.  The problem was a cyst in her hand!  It was removed and “Miss” Theople is at home.  She goes back next week for a check-up.

 

 

Debbie M. Wilkinson of Amite is at MD Anderson again.  Let’s pray for a safe trip and another praise report.

 

 

Let’s not forget to remember Eric Lee and his family as he continues with treatment in Texas.  Your prayers will be appreciated by both family and friends.

 

 

Linda Callihan‘s schedule was for radiation all this week in Hammond.  Pray for her as she receives six weeks of treatment.  Thank God her treatment can be done in Hammond.

David and I were invited to a flag retirement ceremony at Spring Creek Elementary yesterday morning.  A very tattered flag was replaced by a new one.  The Masons of the local lodge took the flag to be properly burned and buried.  It was a solemn ceremony.  The students were respectful.  The ceremony was extra special to David and me because his brother, Jimmy, and his cousin, Vernon Russell, were involved.  It was good to see how the young and the old honored the flag and showed respect for each other.

A mission team from our association is in Haiti.  Here are the latest updates.  Please pray.

July 5th – Our journey begins. 35 members of BASELA and BAGBR and a couple of others headed to Haiti. Will be leading 2 Pastors Conferences, VBS, and some construction. Thanks for your prayers. -Bro. Stan

July 7th – I wanted to give an update on our mission trip to Haiti. There has been an unexpected civil unrest because of gas price increases of about 40 percent overnight. Our team is safe. We are unable to leave the mission compound today. Yesterday our VBS team led 20 children to the Lord. So God is blessing. We held a pastors conference yesterday with over 100 pastors attending. Our construction team made contributions at a local church. To God be the glory. We are safe but ask you for prayers- their is a hurricane threat as well. -Bro. Stan

David and I just returned from a short trip to see our granddaughter who has been working for a MS doctor, who was one of my former students.  I’m proud of that former student and of my granddaughter.

Today, I thank God for a safe trip to Ridgecrest in N.C. and back.  We were able to see the closing ceremonies at Camp Crestridge for Girls and Camp Ridgecrest for Boys.  I’m thankful David and I were able to climb all the mountains, even if it was slower than our other family members.  Yesterday, we made a  lunch stop on the way home and saw another granddaughter and her hosts in Laurel, MS where she has worked this summer.  Four of the five days were spent riding most of the day.  Today will be a day of rest and washing.

I thank God for this great inspirational location He is using in N.C. to train many young men and women in Biblical knowledge and growing in the Lord.  May it continue to be a great ministry place.  It was evident God’s love was bubbling in many young lives.  I was so blessed to be there for the first time since the years we sent our son there to work as a teen.  This year his two teens were campers.  They continue to return each summer.

 

 

Operation Christmas Child – The suggested July purchases are clothing items like  shoes, socks, shirts, etc.

I’ll share the latest update on Buddy Morris.  The family was very happy with the doctor they saw in Covington at the St. Tammany Cancer Center..  After some more testing, doctors will be working together to  plan a chemo treatment for him.  Join the family in thanking God for guidance in finding these doctors.  Pray for the family.

Mr. Buddy Morris is in North Oaks for a procedure this morning.  Please pray for both Buddy and Eleanor.

 

 

David saw his retina specialist.  He has done extensive work on David’s eyes a number of times.  He always uses the M-word to describe David’s eye progress.  That word is MIRACLE!

Arlene Rae Travis was born into the arms of Angels on Wednesday, May 9, 2018. She is survived by her parents, Mitchell and Amber Travis; sister, Adelyne Georgia Travis; brother, Matthew Vernon Travis; grandparents, Kenneth and Imelda Travis, all of Greensburg, and George and Jan Burch, Mt. Hermon; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Preceded in death and welcomed into Heaven by her angel baby sibling. Graveside Services will be held at Greensburg Cemetery at 4:30 PM Saturday, May 12, 2018. McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, in charge of arrangements.

I told you how wonderful the ladies’ meeting at Amite was going to be.   I’m sorry if you missed the meeting, because it was even better than our expectations.  I hope you have the opportunity to talk with someone who was there.

 

 

Today begins a new month.  Operation Christmas Child suggests you purchase hygiene items such as bars of soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, body scrubbers, STICK deodorants, and combs during the month of May.  You can add these items to your shoeboxes or bring multiple of some of these items for us to send as fillers which can be added to boxes that are not completely full when our boxes get to Dallas.

 

 

Pray for the children and adults who will be attending M-JAM at the end of this week.

Pray for the high school and college graduates who will be honored at church Sunday.  Pray that decisions about continuing education, military, and careers will be carefully made.

 

 

Let me update you on David.  He is feeling much better, eating like a horse, and has gained back six pounds so far.  Thank you for praying for him and asking about him.  He is regaining his strength and hopefully will be back to his usual size and activity level in a few more months.

Josiah Huckaby

Update: Josiah has continued to become more stable over the last 3 weeks and Urology has decided they want to move forward with his kidney surgery. It is scheduled for Monday, April 30th. We don’t have a specific time yet. This will be the last know surgery and it will be the longest one so far…taking about 3 hours. This is a huge praise because when we talked about this in December, the doctor was very hesitant about doing the surgery and she felt it was best to wait until we just couldn’t wait any longer. Now they are eager to get it done so that he won’t have to come back for surgery once he comes home. The nurse practioner seemed pleasantly surprised on Saturday when she was talking to us about his current vent settings. He is currently on an older model home vent which is bulky and makes mobility for him a little more difficult so our goal is to try to swap him to the newer home vent after surgery. They were hesitant about the idea a few weeks ago but now they are confindent with the future change. Josiah has been to playgroup twice now and hopefully we will get to go outside tomorrow for the first time ever (weather permitting). He loves his custom stroller and enjoys just sitting in it. He continues to make more talking noises over his trach. He has 6 teeth that I can see…his tongue stays in the way so he could have more.  He has finally started trying to roll to the left…he has always favored rolling to the right. And of course he’s always silly, smiling, and laughing! To God be the glory!!!

August 20, 1935 – April 23, 2018

Eyvonne Ricks, a resident of Denham Springs, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2018 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. She was born August 20, 1935 in Kentwood and was 82 years of age. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Kentwood and IRA #84 Order of Eastern Star. She loved spending time with family and friends, scrap booking and putting puzzles together. She is survived by her 2 sons, Layton Ricks, Jr. and wife, Susan, Denham Springs, Ronnie Ricks and wife, Susan, Canton, MS; daughter, Judy Ricks Garcia and husband, Larry, Denham Springs; 11 grandchildren, Angela, April, Layci, Nancy and Brett, Rondi, Rob, Joel and Kristin, Heather, and Lucretia; and 14 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by the love of her live of 59 ½ years , Luther L. Ricks, Sr.; parents, George and Ada Lou Tidwell; sisters, Lillie Mae Easley and Norma D. Christopher; granddaughter, Jessica N. Garcia and grandson, Larry Garcia, II. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, from 5 PM until 8 PM, Wednesday and from 8 AM until religious services at 11 AM Thursday, April 26, 2018. Mrs. Jeanette McGehee is walking some during her physical therapy time at North Oaks.  That’s good.  Let pray for continued progress.

 

 

The obituary for Mr. John Alan Blackwell has not been posted yet.

 

 

There will be no gathering at the cabin tonight.  Thank-you for your understanding.  David is improving, but still tires easily and is weak.  He has regained a few pounds, but has many more to regain.

Last night, we played a game about choices.  There are many we must make in life.  The most important one is inviting Jesus into our hearts/lives.  The decision is important for children, youth, and adults!  Have you made the correct choice?
