Covid-19 is still working in our area. Some people are on the “road to recovery”, some are still struggling, and unfortunately new cases are still appearing. Please do your part to help stop this awful virus.

A number of churches are not going to have regular services today. I’ll not list them all, but FBC, Kentwood will be online (Facebook and You Tube) only at 10:30 A.M. and 6:00 P.M. today. Spring Creek Baptist Church will not meet in any way today. Please pray for our churches. Neither church has announced plans for next week. The revival at FBC, K has not been cancelled at this time.

Temple Holland Bryant

March 30, 1961 – August 14, 2020

Temple Holland Bryant, 59 of Amite, LA died on August 14, 2020 after a long illness. The loss of Temple’s unique charm and sense of humor will be missed by all that knew him. As a child, he could bring out laughs with his silly nature. After his first day of school, he announced that his teacher said he knew everything and was finished with school. He brought chuckles to anyone in need. His well articulated compliments showered friends and strangers alike. Temple left smiles in his wake. A young Temple joined the USCG and proudly served across the country over the years, he received many awards and gained more brothers and sisters. He later brought his talents to Jackson Hewitt. He reveled in being the Tax Man and loved his loyal clients. Along with military bearing and a strong intellect, he was remarkably creative, Temple baked, carved rocks, sculpted and painted, yet music was his favorite. He left us a library of You Tube videos where he shared his humor, heart and talent. Temple also believed in the power of community service, volunteering at various food banks and kitchens. His children and grandchildren were his pride of his life. He delighted in being near them and talking about them. Temple had a special relationship with his many cousins, nieces and nephews, finding specific connections with each. He is survived by his daughter, Samantha Moody; son, Dustin Kibbe; grandchildren, Carter, Christian and Maelee Moody and Gannon and Andrew Kibbe; mother, Shirley Bryant; brothers, John Bryant (Phyllis), Stephen Bryant (Tisha) and Matthew Bryant (Liz); sister, Elizabeth Bryant Towe; special cousins, Mary Jo Ricks and Kathy Wales; goddaughter, Krystal Alonzo. He was blessed to know and love his many nieces and nephews and a devoted extended family. He is preceded in death by his father, James H. Bryant. A Memorial Service will be at Pine Ridge Methodist Church on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at 2:00PM. Burial to follow in Pine Ridge Cemetery. Mark Jones, a resident of Amite, LA, passed away on Thursday, August 13, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born October 18, 1967 in Hammond, LA and was 52 years of age. Johnnie Marion McKenzie

Graveside services for Johnnie Marion McKenzie , 80, of Tylertown, Msississippi will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at Union Church Cemetery in Tylertown with Rev. Doug Lee and Rev. Ron Jordan officiating.

Mr. McKenzie passed away in Brookhaven, Mississippi on Thursday, August 13, 2020. He was born January 3, 1940 in Tylertown, Mississippi to the late Sarah Thornton and Clark McKenzie. He is also preceded in death by his granddaughter Amanda Mathis and his great-grandson Caleb Mathis.

He enjoyed watching baseball, old movies, hunting, target practicing and spending time with his family. Mr. McKenzie was a member of Union Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and as part of the Baptist Brotherhood. He served as a volunteer Civil Defense Director and as Walthall County Justice Court Judge for many years. Mr. McKenzie retired as Sergeantfrom the Army National Guard and also woked as a timber cruiser for Monticello Forestry company for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years Frances McKenzie; son Gary Marion McKenzie and his wife Sylvia McKenzie; daughters Becky Dickerson and her husband Tim Dickerson, Cindy Smith and her husband Chad Smith, Christy Yarborough and her husband Chad Yarborough; grandchildren Jason McKenzie, Ashley Greene and her husband Travis Greene, Stephanie Harper, Johnny McKenzie and his girlfriend Becca Gaudet, Craig Dickerson and his wife Alex Dickerson, Corey Dickerson and his wife Beth Anne Dickerson, Heather Coker and her husband Tyler Coker, Brayden Smith, Caleb Yarborough and his fiance’ Elleana Smith, Caylee Grace Davis and her husband Zane Davis, and Caden Yarborough; 21 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren, sister Virginia Sauls; brothers Henry Earl McKenzie and his wife Ginn McKenzie, Jimmy Thornton and his wife Katie Thornton, Dewayne Thornton and his wife Debbie Thornton, Harold Thornton and his wife Susan Thornton, James Thornton and his wife Jeri Thornton; along with a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and loving family.

She was born January 26, 1924 in Osyka, MS and was 96 years of age. She was a loving Mother and Grandmother. She worked for the State of Louisiana Department of Tourism for 30 years. She loved her job and the trips she and Judy were able to go on because of it. The thing she was most proud of though, was her family. I have an important announcement that some of you have not read. Rev. Darryl Miller of FBC, Kentwood shared this yesterday.

Good morning. The Deacon Council of FBC Kentwood, after prayerful consideration, has by majority vote made the decision to go back to online services only for the next 2 weeks. This decision was reached in light of the fact that we have had multiple positive Covid tests this week from people that have been attending our services. None of these people appear at this time to have life threatening symptoms and our prayer is that they all make a speedy recovery. We value the health of our congregation and pray that no one else gets infected with this illness. Our plan at this time is to reevaluate and hopefully be back at church on August 23rd.

I realize many of you are already aware of this announcement, but not everyone.

What does this announcement bring to our hearts for prayer?

People will not get busy and forget to “tune-in”
Technology is available for everyone

Bernadette Mae Cazes, a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend, passed away after a courageous 12-year battle with cancer at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at the age of 74. I need some help Saturday morning at 9 A.M. at the fellowship hall. We will be painting inside the tops of the shoeboxes that will soon be packed with items for boys and girls. It is easier to do than to explain. Join me at 9 A.M. and help bring some extra joy to children who receive our shoeboxes this year. It will bring a smile every time they open their box. Maddie’s Miracles (written yesterday)

Maddie will have a fine needle biopsy in the morning on a lymph node in her neck that has been there for a while. Doctor was waiting to see if it would go back to normal size and it hasn’t so they are going to check it out. She has the best doctors who truly care about catching any and everything that goes on with her. Prayers are appreciated and we know that God has her in the palm of HIs hand. God is good ALL the time. We should have results next week. Thank you prayer warriors!

I have been discharged from the hospital. Dropped my prescriptions off at the pharmacy. Tomorrow morning we will be headed home. Thanks everyone for the prayers and nice words of encouragement. Thanks to my wife Nikki Smith, my mother in law Patsy Lea and my mom Elaine Hue Smith for making the 20hr drive to be with me during my surgery. It meant the world to me. I can’t forget all the great friends that are up hear with me for helping out and checking on me.

Ben Smith is still hospitalized in New Jersey, but should be able to leave the hospital soon. His parents are still by his side. The doctor said his gall bladder was really bad. Thankfully, he got medical care when he did. Pray for other family members too.

Mission Opportunities – Meet at the church Saturday morning at 9:00 to paint inside a shoe box so children will smile every time they open the box. Boxes, paint, and other supplies will be provided. Just give of your time! Items for the shoe boxes are being counted and organized by groups. Let’s all look forward to filling the boxes at the end of next month. You’ll have an opportunity to help paint, fold boxes, fill boxes, etc. until the end of next month. I hope you will contribute of your time. We will also be collecting money for the shipping of the boxes. That’s only $9.00, which is a bargain! I know because I have shipped many boxes overseas. Please pray for Pete Hughes of Roseland. He will be having open heart surgery tomorrow to repair five blockages in his heart.

Buddy Waller was hospitalized because of heart blockages, but thankfully was found that they were not bad enough to require surgery. (Thanks, James, for sharing this.). Keep Buddy in your prayers as he continues his daily routine.

Ben Smith of Greensburg is hospitalized in New Jersey because of gall bladder surgery. He had a lot of infection and inflammation which cause the surgery to be done “the old way”.

Jewell R. Eaves

June 27, 1937 – September 09, 2019

On September 9, 2019 at 2:30 AM, Jewell Randolph Eaves was welcomed into the kingdom of Heaven. His wife and daughters were able to be in this peaceful moment knowing when he breathed his last breath, he was in Jesus’ arms. Known to others as JR, Sonny, dad, and grandpa, he was a great Christian man who was loved by many. JR was born 82 years ago on June 27th, 1937 in Texas. He served our country as a US Army 82 Airborne Paratrooper. He has worn many hats through his years, but his favorite ones were being a husband, father, granddad, and great grandpa. He wore those proudly. JR truly loved life and lived it to the fullest through the simple pleasures of fishing, hunting, farming, chicken raising, and watching over his friends and family. He is preceded in death by his parents Jewell Johnny and Nettie Mae Eaves and his brother Jerry and sister in law Pat Eaves. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Nadalee McNab Eaves, his sister Yvonne Woods, and his brothers Robert (Nancy) Eaves and Arthur (Sally) Beasley. He leaves a rich legacy starting with his children, his son Randy Eaves, and daughters Jennifer (Timmy) Thornton, Jolie (Scott) Gulledge, Joni (Garrett) Matherne, and Jamie Dehnel. He also leaves behind to carry on his humor, wisdom, and dreams- his 13 grand children- Nicole, Patrick, Travis, Jeremy, Justin, Allyssa, Jessica, Matthew, Katlyn, Ashton, Jacob, Natalee, and Aubrey and his 5 (and counting) great grandchildren. Family, friends, and others whose lives JR touched are invited to join us as we celebrate his life at Montpelier Baptist Church (2241 St. Helena Avenue. Montpelier, La 70422) on September 12th begining at 10 am. Services to follow at 12 PM and will be led by Bro Rusty Durand. Connie Lee Madden Raborn of Kentwood, Louisiana passed away September 8, 2019, surrounded by her family. Connie was born at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska on July 16, 1952, was a 1970 graduate of Fort Zumwalt High School, O’Fallon, Missouri, and a life-long Girl Scout. Connie married the love of her life, Sam Raborn, U.S. Air Force, Retired, on April 26, 1975, in Tucson, Arizona. She spent the next 20 years serving her country as a military wife, raising her three daughters, traveling the world, and participating in Girl Scouts. After retirement, they settled in Louisiana where Connie spent her time taking care of her cows, chickens, horses, and grandkids. There was nothing she loved more than spending time with her family. Connie was an active member of First Baptist Church of Arcola, where she enjoyed her ladies’ meeting and helping with Vacation Bible School. Connie was loved by everyone who knew her. She never met a stranger, and she spent her life caring for others, especially her beloved husband. She loved researching her family history, often traveling the world to follow in their footsteps. She was a friend and “mom” to everyone she met. Connie is preceded in death by her mother, Rose Lee Oetting Madden; her father, William Lee Madden, Sr.; her mother-in-law, Margaret Jones Raborn; and her father-in-law, Loid Noel Raborn. Left to cherish her memory is her devoted husband, Samuel Merwin Raborn; her daughters Margaret Elizabeth Raborn Andrews (Eric); Angela Darlene Raborn Stone (Rob); and Renee Sandra Raborn Molland (Quincy); her grandchildren, Dusty, Dakota, Ethan, Erica, Luke, Ella Rose, Samantha, Addison, Colleen, and Parker; her sisters, Dawn Carrigg and Susan Cleveland; her brothers, William Madden, Jr., and Shawn Madden; numerous nieces and nephews; her life-long best friend, Sandy Stefanski; and many, many more friends and family. The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Arcola on Thursday, September 12, 2019 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM and on Friday, September 13, 2019 from 10:00AM until the funeral service at 12:00 Noon. Interment will take place in Osyka Cemetery, Osyka, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Metavivor, Metastatic Breast Cancer Research, Support, and Awareness Organization or the Girl Scouts of the USA.
