Thanksgiving

I posted early this morning, but in pages, not posts.  I’m sorry I’m late correcting this mistake.  We haven’t been home.

If my people, who are called by my name,

will humble themselves and pray and seek my face

and turn from their wicked ways,

then I will hear from heaven,

and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.

2 Chronicles 7:14 NIV

I think this is surely the proper verse for us today!

Macy Gueldner

We had a good visit in Memphis last week. Macy’s counts were good, so she had a lumbar puncture and chemo. Oh, and she started the dreaded dex (steroids.) She had a rough weekend, but she’s slowly getting better. She has leg pain from the vincristine, and suspected overall bone pain from the dex. Her mouth is FULL of tiny sores, and her doctor thinks that they’re probably down her throat, as well. So we’ll continue with the magic mouthwash, in addition to starting some nystatin.

We’re in Baton Rouge today for clinic. Her counts are good, so she’s about to get her chemo. They also gave her some extra morphine, because she’s miserable. But, no matter how she feels, she’s always in the mood to eat. So, I’m sure she’ll have a good day tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving!

Please add Nyla Price to your prayer list.  She is in North Oaks with a problem with her esophagus.

Thankfulness: Day 26

I am thankful to Jesus for all He has done for me, my family, my friends, my country, etc.  I’m just thankful.  Yesterday, a number of my friends shared their favorite songs. Each time, I thought to myself, “Yes, that is my favorite”.  As I thought about it some more, I think my thankful goes back to God.  Thanks to Will Ricks for reminding me of “Give Thanks with a Grateful Heart”.

Spend as much time being thankful today as you do eating!

Thankfulness: Day 20

Expectations are wonderful.  Sometimes we live to meet our own expectations and sometimes for those of others.  Many have an expectation of Jesus’ return “One Day”.  I’m thankful to be in that number looking forward to that day and trying to make sure others have the same thing to look forward to.

I hope and trust you have a similar expectation.

I’m thanking God for watching over all of us last night.  The weather got bad as that big wind hit about 11:00, but the reports I have heard are only of minor damage.

Please continue to pray for all the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes that are being collected around the world this week.  Our shoeboxes were turned in at Franklinton.  A member of that church said they packed 700 shoeboxes this year!  I know God will bless each of the 700 children who receive one of those shoeboxes.

Thankfulness – Day 17

Today, I’m thankful for hugs.  I get more of them now than ever before in my live.  I treasure each one.  A hug represents love and/or protection.  I high value both of those.  Some days, a hug seems like the best medication for the problems/troubles I’m facing.  A physical hug helps, but sometimes I need to “feel” God’s love.  Songs like “Safe in the Arms of Jesus” and “God Will Take Care of You” are worth more than all the medication any doctor can prescribe.

I trust you know you know what makes you feel those “special hugs from God”.

Dan Turner’s Update

I’m at 26-28 hours since my last dosage-change and can tell a pretty dramatic difference in the spasticity of my left leg. Not as much improvement is noted in my left hand, but it’s a little better too. My left leg feels so odd, not being tight all day. It actually feels like someone else’s leg has been put in the place of mine—I know, that’s weird. If things stay on this trajectory, I plan to start working out my legs in 4-5 days. I’m just giving myself a few days to adjust to the relaxation of my muscles. What a welcome feeling of progress to be thinking and planning my lower-body workout!

Lottis Moon Christmas Tea

Thanks to the following ladies for working yesterday to get ready for the tea: Theople Hurst, Judy Liberto, Velma Anthony, Eleanor Morris, Sue Connelly, Virginia McKenzie, Margaret Olliver, Sharon Martin, Linda Frazier, and Bessie Hayden.  The room looks very nice.

Now, let us pray for a room full of people tomorrow.  I know that God will send those He wants to be there.  Let’t pray heart will be receptive to all that is shared there.

Don’t forget to being Christmas cards with stamps or a book(s) of stamps that can be used with some cards that have already been shared.  If you need more time, you have until Sunday, November 29th to get them turned in.

Today, I’m thankful for growing up in a Christian home.  What a difference that made my whole life.  I’m also thankful for other Christian homes and the guidance they provide to many of you.  Let’s pray for more and more homes to be providers of the Christian guidance children need and deserve.

I think it is unspoken today, but let’s pray for the people of Paris.  Let’s pray that more people will learn what happened “At the Cross” and understand the significance to our lives both today and in the future.

Thursday Updates

Jesse Dean‘s surgery went well.  He should be home in a couple of days.  Keep praying for him.  Add Majel to your prayer list.

Mrs. Gloria Boone‘s obituary was updated.

Gloria E. Boone, former nurse, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin, sister and friend, died on Wednesday November 4, 2015. She passed peacefully at her home in Kentwood, surrounded by loved ones, after battling a series of illnesses. She had many loves in her life, including her family, numerous friends, her cats, listening to and watching Gaither Homecomings and talking about old times. But she was very adamant about her final wishes and how she wanted them carried out. We, the family, hope that we did not let her down. Born Gloria Elizabeth Wilbanks on July 14, 1937 in Walnut, MS, she is survived by her brother, Jack E. Wilbanks and wife, Elma of Gulfport, MS; niece, Belinda and nephew, Alan. Also living are her three children: oldest son, Andy Boone and wife, Beverly, of Sumrall, MS; son, Wade Boone and wife, Brenda, of Kentwood and daughter, Kathy Boone Dykes and husband, Walter, also of Kentwood. Ms. Boone was blessed with 3 grandchildren: granddaughter, Haley Boone Brumfield and husband, Derrick, of Sandy Hook, MS; grandson, Ethan J. Boone and wife, Megan, of Kentwood and another grandson, Jordan A. Dykes, of Kentwood, as well. Not to be left out are her 4 great-grandchildren, Aidyn, Lexie, Caimen, and Kayson. She was preceded in death by her parents, E.J. “Jack” Wilbanks and Katherine Carey Wilbanks of Natchez, MS. The family would like to express our sincerest thanks to her nurses—- both of Home Health and Hospice, Bro. Joey Miller & wife, Karen, her church family at First Baptist of Kentwood, various friends and family, and lastly, the folks at McKneely Funeral Home for seeing to it that her wishes were carried out to the “t”. We appreciate every prayer, every hug, and every memory each of you shared with us during this time. Graveside Services were held at Roberts Cemetery, Kentwood, LA at 10:30 AM Thursday, November 5, 2015. Services conducted by Rev. Joey Miller. McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, in charge of arrangements. For an online guestbook, visit http://www.mckneelys.com.

Thankfulness: Day 10

Today, I’m thankful for all of God’s creation, including the sun.  I am not one who enjoys the heat of the year or getting a sunburn, but have an appreciation for the light. I love the order of the days and seasons.  I’m thankful for the sunshine that returns each day.  Even more than that, I’m thankful for the “Sonshine” in my life.

Women’s Ministry

  • Lottie Moon Christmas Tea – Sunday at 2 P.M. at FBC, Kentwood.  This is for ladies from 3-103 and throughout the association.  Contact me for more information.
  • Friday Morning Bible Study – 10 A.M. at FBC, Kentwood.  We will be studying the Syrophonecian Woman who is discussed in Matthew 20 and Mark 15.  We are almost finished with our study of Women of the Bible.  We are choosing our next topic now.
  • Stamped Christmas Cards for Prisoners – Each year the women of Two Rivers Baptist Association collect these to give to the parish prisoners of St. Helena and Tangipahoa parishes.  I have a supply of card that were given to me, so all you have to do to help is bring a book(s) of stamps.  I will deliver them to the jail at the end of the month.  You can bring your stamps to me at the Lottie Moon Tea Sunday or any time before the end of the month.  If you choose, you can stamp your own cards and decide between delivering them yourself or having me deliver them for you.  I’m sure the family members who receive cards at Christmas are thankful for them and appreciative of those who provided them.

Let the Son shine through you today!

Monday

“[God] is able to do exceedingly abundantly

above all that we ask or think,

according to the power that works in us.”

~Ephesians 3:20, NKJV~

David and I were able to attend the commissioning service at FBC, New Orleans for missionaries about to begin service far from here.  We also were blessed to hear the IMB president, David Platt, speak twice.  My heart was so touched as the young missionaries stood all around the room with their families gathered around them for prayer.  They are in my thoughts this morning. God supplied this verse that seems so appropriate.  Please keep the missionaries and their families in your prayers.  Pray, too, for them to be effective  witnesses for God in their new countries.

Please pray for Jill Brister as she has surgery on her neck today.  Pray the surgery is effective in curing the pain Jill has suffered for some time.

Gibby McMillan said the date has been set for Katera’s knee surgery.  She should be hospitalized three days in Baton Rouge.  Pray the surgery goes well and is effective in solving her problem.

Our granddaughter, Peyton Alford, had a concussion last week.  She has stayed at home “resting her brain” all week.  Today, she will go to school for half a day.  If that goes well, she will return to her regular schedule Tuesday.  Thank-you to all who prayed for her and asked for updates on her.

Today, I’m thankful for Jesus being “The Lighthouse” of my life.  I also appreciate all those who have guided me in my Christian journey.

I trust Jesus is your “lighthouse”.  If not, please ask me or some other Christian, how to find the “lighthouse” who can guide all the remaining days of your life and even guide you to an eternity in heaven.
