Thursday

For the grace of God has appeared

that offers salvation to all people.

~Titus 2:11~

Peggy Luce, wife of Rev. David Luce, is now cancer free.  After she heals from surgery, she will begin radiation.  She taught school at Oak Forest when he was a pastor west of Amite.

Betty Fussell is able to travel for medical treatment and tests and then return to her home. Pray for her, her family, and her friends.

Mary Frances Graham, sister of Jimmy Tolar, will be having surgery tomorrow in Houston.  Join with her family in praying.

Shira Easley, a friend to many, passed away Tuesday afternoon.  Thanks to those who gave me the message.  I was waiting for an obituary before posting, but have been informed that there will be a delay in getting the family together to make funeral plans.  She loved her Lord and served Him in many ways including missions and disaster relief where she was a chaplain.

Read the Bible Today – Deuteronomy 24-29 and Psalm 61-62.  My guide included readings on February 29, so I had to double up today.

Site you many want to check out:

But he knows the way that I take;

when he has tested me, I will come forth as gold.

My feet have closely followed his steps;

I have kept to his way without turning aside.

~Job 23:10-11 (NIV)~

I have been blessed to have know many Christians whose lives preached this message!

“Trusting Jesus, That is All”

Did you locate some PAPERBACK Bibles for us to give to the inmates at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail?  Bring them to a box beneath the stairs at the office entrance or beneath the stairs to the balcony.  This is a good ministry and one we can all participate in.  We can us new or used Bibles, complete Bibles or New Testaments.  They must be PAPERBACKS to be accepted by the jail.

Friday Morning Bible Study – Completing John this week and receiving study guide for the book of Ezekiel.  We plan to study chapters 4-8.  Mrs. Bessie Hayden requested we do this study.

Monday – Associational WMU meeting at FBC, Greensburg at 10 A.M.  Come to learn about North American Missions and the Annie Armstrong Week of Prayer which is next week.  Everyone is invited to join us.

Get ready to learn about mission work in North America.  I think we can all agree that we need to be a stronger Christian nation.

but also you can say to this mountain,

‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’

with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’

And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Tuesday

“There is no one holy like the LORD;

there is no one besides you;

there is no Rock like our God.

Please continue to pray for Bettye Fussell and Mr. Phillip and “Miss” Annie Bell Harrell.

David and I had a good visit with Debbie R. Miller yesterday.  She was glad to see us, as always.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

It seems we had been to a number of wakes and funerals lately.  That represents a number of friendships.  We never regret the special friendships God has blessed us with.

I have a good report to share.  David’s brother and sister-in-law from Holden finally got a trailer to live in while they continue to repair their home that was damaged in the August floods.  They are enjoying sleeping and eating in their new environment.

Bible Reading  – Numbers 35-36 and Psalm 52
The commandments, “You shall not commit adultery,”
“You shall not murder,”
“You shall not steal,”
“You shall not covet,”
and whatever other command there may be,
are summed up in this one command:
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
Love does no harm to a neighbor.
Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
~ Romans 13:9-10 (NIV)~
“Blessed Assurance”

I hope you have that assurance.  If not, search for someone today who can guide you to that special, life-changing assurance.

Monday Afternoon

Jimmy Schwartz‘s memorial service was certainly a memory maker and just the way he would have wished it to be.  He will be greatly missed.

David and I saw Debbie Miller early this afternoon.  She seems to be doing much better.  That’s an answer to our prayers and the prayers of many others.

Mr. Phillip Harrell has had a heart issue and has the flu.  He’s at Greensburg hospital.  He is uncomfortable, but clearly thinking of “Miss” Annie Bell who is at home with the flu.  Phyllis  is with her.  Please pray for this couple and their caregivers.

Monday

My name will be great among the nations,

from where the sun rises to where it sets.

In every place incense and pure offerings

will be brought to me,

because my name will be great among the nations,”

says the LORD Almighty.

Bettye Fussell had some problems yesterday.  Pray for her and her family today.

SUMMARY

In this week’s reading, we see the torch of Israel being passed from one generation to the next before they enter the Promised Land (remember the verdict God handed down to the rebellious generation in Num. 14). This is done, most symbolically, in the leadership of the Israelites being handed from Moses to Joshua. This new generation, with Joshua at the helm, tastes their first victories in battles with regional city-states on the east side of the Jordan River, an area called Moab.

However, Moses’ role is not yet done. You will also open the book of Deuteronomy this week, which is a collection of teachings by Moses that adapts the laws given at Mt. Sinai. He reshapes the covenant laws to address this new generation about to go into the Promised Land. His wise words provide inspiring promises to the Israelites if they keep the covenant laws, and he offers sobering warnings of what will happen if they do not.

Pay Special Attention: Deuteronomy 6:4-5, commonly called “the Shema,” became a prayer in Jewish tradition that was uttered twice a day. This practice continues on today, thousands of years later.

Children in Action – Those who will be going to the missions fair next month will need to get their t-shirt order and $10.00 turned in by Sunday.

“Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men.”                                ~ 1 Timothy 2:1, NKJV~
