”You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead?

Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion?

Of course not!

So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Amber Prine Ragan “We’re In This Together”

Amber and I spent the full day at MD Anderson on Wednesday. This was her 3 week follow-up visit after radiation treatment. She had a pulmonary function test, blood work, and a MRI done before we met with Dr. DeGroot in the afternoon. He said that everything looked good and the treatment plan is going accordingly. He has agreed to let Dr. Olsen in Baton Rouge manage her chemo treatments. However, he still wants her to return back to MDA for routine MRIs and bloodwork during the time she will be on chemo. That will be every six weeks for 8-9 months. We were in hopes that he would release Amber completely, but we are grateful for the positive results. We completely trust Dr. DeGroot’s decision and it comforts us to know that he will be monitoring her scans and blood levels during treatment.
Amber will meet with Dr. Olsen this afternoon at the Neuro Medical Center in Baton Rouge to get the next step in her treatment journey started. The chemo treatment is called PCV. It is a combination of 2 oral medications along with infusions. The chemo regimen will consist of 6 cycles (42 days for each cycle). After each cycle, she will return back to MD Anderson for routine assessments and to meet with Dr. DeGroot.
We were able to view yesterday’s MRI along with a MRI that was done before surgery. It was very visible to see the amount of the tumor that was extracted during surgery. We’ve been looking forward to seeing the comparison in the scans.
Once again, thank you for all your prayers and support. Amber continues to amaze all of us with her strength and positive attitude. She returned back to work the week after radiation ended. She is back to a normal life and is rocking her “punk” hairstyle!

Maddie’s Miracles
Maddie and Nana had a long quiet day. Maddie slept most of the day. They still have no idea what’s going on. Blood pressure has been a little low said she maybe dehydrated. We are so thankful Nana was able to come stay with her so we can work this week. She is one of our greatest blessings. We will just wait and see what tomorrow brings. They will not let her eat because she gets so sick when she does. She’s not hungry anyway so that is also a blessing. Remember blessings are always around no matter your circumstance! God is so very good ALL the time!
Brian Tate starts round three of his treatments at M.D. Anderson today.   Pray all goes well for him as he has these treatments.
Mrs. Bessie Hayden has been moved from OLOL to North Oaks Rehab.   I’m sure she is happy to be closer to Kentwood.  Check on visiting hours before you make a visit with her.

Pray for our country.  Pray we return to the value system that our forefathers had when our country was established.  I love to hear about “God and Country”.  Too often, we leave God out of everything that is important in our lives as a Christian country.

Operation Christmas Child – I plan to be at FBC, Kentwood at 1:30 this afternoon if anyone wants to help me work with the “shoeboxes” today.  I plan to be there again in the morning at 9:00 to work some more.  I plan to have a good count of shoeboxes for Sunday.  Collection week is November 12 – 19 this year.  I’ll have a sign-up schedule for those who want to help then at church Sunday.

The Youth on Mission class has learned how to tell their first Bible story.  They will not meet this Sunday due to Trunk or Treat, but the following week they will begin work on learning their second Bible story.  It’s never too late to learn to share God’s Word.

Sunday Addition

Dr. and Mrs. Earl Council request prayers for their family because of the sudden death of their eighteen year old grandson.

Maddie is the granddaughter of one of my classmates.  Her Facebook page is Maddie’s Miracles.  Please be in prayer for Maddie and her family.

We came to Louisiana for birthday parties and bonfire today and Maddie missed it all and wound up in the hospital. They think her appendix ruptured because they can only find fluid where her appendix should be. She is in a good bit of pain in her abdomen but no other symptoms. The hospital in Hammond doesn’t have transplant doctors so they kept her over night to give her IV antibiotics. She will go to her regular hospital in Jackson tomorrow where her doctors are so they can try to figure out what’s going on and see a surgeon that is familiar with her. Prayers are appreciated that they figure this out before it gets any worse. Will update tomorrow once we get her moved. Thanks to our prayer warriors.

Jimmy Tolar is home.  Thank God for his faithful caregiver, his wife Naomi Tolar.  Pray for other caregivers, who gladly put their lives “on hold” to care to someone else.

  • Eleanor Morris who postponed her surgery to care for Buddy
  • Betty Taylor who has centered her life around taking care of Andy
  • Mr. Cete Dillon who has cared for “Miss” Ruby for a long time and continues to do so daily..
  • The list is long.  Think of some caregivers and pray for them.

Some people have unique ways to see needs and meet them.  What a blessing people can be to others when they are willing to give of themselves!

“I Believe in a Hill Called Mount Calvary”

It’s time to stop watching and listening and post this for you.  I hope you can agree with the words here, “I believe ….”.  If not, please read the lyrics and the story again and listen and watch to the video.  If you need someone to talk with, contact a pastor or Christian friend.  If you need help finding someone to talk with, please contact me through “contact” at the top of this page.

Those who believe ,”do”.  I know many people who are “doers”.  They help others to learn about God and trust in Him.  Appreciate the doers.  Become one of them in a way that fits who you are.  Get our of your comfort zone if you need to.   Doing is very rewarding and is God’s plan for all of us.                                                                        (Matthew 28:19-20)

Please continue to pray for all the people whose lives are forever changed because of Hurricane Michael this week.  This includes the victims and those who are there now and will be there in the future to help the people recover.  I know we all relate to their problems because of hurricanes we have experienced.  We can’t changes the storms of our lifetime, but we certainly can find ways to help those who have been in the storms.  One advantage of being a part of this recovery is to know that many of the volunteers there are Christians who have a special message of Christ’s love for the people.  Christian volunteers help others meet physical and spiritual needs.

This has been a very busy month. We saw urology and they said Josiah looks great! We then saw cardiology and his echo showed his pulmonary hypertension had increased to moderate. The cardiologist seemed very surprised because he said he looks so good. They decided to increase one of his meds he had outgrown to see if that makes a difference. We then saw pulmonary and they were also impressed with Josiah’s progress. The most recent appt was with the eye doctor...Josiah will be sporting the cutest little glasses hopefully by the end of the week. 🤓 Both of his eyes have a pretty bad astigmatism so his vision has most likely been distorted. We have been weaning his pressure support (it gives him a little extra support with every breath he takes on his own) since mid-July. We have gone from 10 down to 4.

As far as milestones, he has 8 teeth in & 4 molars that are getting pretty close to being completely in. He is so close to being able to sit up & he has started his own version of “crawling”. It’s definitely not a crawl but it is effective for moving close enough to grab things he shouldn’t. He has had such determination over the last couple of weeks & is really making progress in every area. He has started mimicking faces. He will reach out for us to pick him up if we say come here…but then he gets really tickled & starts belly laughing before we can actually get him out of the bed. He is learning how to brush his teeth. We have been learning some signs & he’s getting really good at signing “mom”. He has been making more talking sounds over his trach. He started chewing on teething toys this week and he is definitely enjoying traveling more this month too. We can’t praise God enough for His faithfulness through this journey He has called us to. It has not been easy but it has definitely been worth it. To God be the glory! 😊

David received a unit on blood Tuesday and had a bone marrow procedure yesterday.  Now, we are “WAITING & TRUSTING”.  Mayo Clinic will be working up the lab results which we expect to receive on the 15th.
