Last night, I tried to write TPL for today because we were leaving for Baton Rouge at 5:45 this morning.  I didn’t get it done. During the night, I once again thought I was going to write it, but again it didn’t happen.  We are home from Ochsner and a very good stop at Dollar Tree near the hospital.  I love shopping for Operation Christmas Child and getting to answer questions about what I am doing.  Two ladies provided me most of the money I spent today.  Thank you C. and A.!

Yesterday, two ladies turned in the boxes they chose to pack individually.  Other ladies turned in items that will help to fill several boxes.  One sweet, faithful class turned in many bags of items that were purchased last week.  Thanks to all of you.

I will be working in the OCC room some this week.  If you would like to help, please contact me so we can schedule a suitable time.

 

 

 

 

Today, David‘s blood level was 8.1, the highest it has been in months.  The increased dosage of Procrit is helping!  The early drive and the rain made the drive more difficult than usual, but with thankful hearts, we are glad to be home again.  Your regular prayers are getting us through these days.

Several others from Kentwood are also doing well amid treatments.  Please continue to pray for Bryan Tate, Linda Callihan, and Buddy Morris.

Gaylon Cutrer is having a few more problems than usual, so spend some extra time on your prayers for him.  He and his family will be very appreciative.

Today, with a heavy heart, I share that Lori Rhodes has some serious health issues.  Lori and her husband, Keith, served in our church working with the youth.

“Lori has been diagnosed with Multiple System Atrophy. This rare disease is in the Parkinson’s family, but Lori does not have Parkinson’s She has MSA-C (c standing for cerebellum). There is no cure. Life expectancy ranges from 6 years to 15 years based on the onset of symptoms (we really don’t know when her symptoms began but could be up to 5-6 years ago).”

Yesterday, I was asked about what size cans of food were needed for the LA Baptist Children’s Home in a few weeks.  The answer, is buy items like you would for your family.  The man is going to buy a couple cases of canned goods.  That plan might work for you too!  The pick-up time at FBC is early Monday morning, three weeks from today.

Kaye Roberts sent me this obituary for her sister-in-law.

Ann Marie Reid

December 22, 1946 – August 18, 2019

Funeral services for Ann Marie Reid, 72, of Jayess, MS will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Enon Baptist Church with Brother David Hedden officiating. Burial will be in the Enon Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Reid passed away at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi on Sunday, August 18, 2019. She was born December 22, 1946 in McComb, Mississippi to the late Joan Austin Roberts and Wiltz Roberts, Sr.. She is also preceded in death by her grandmother Dorise Nora Austin, who was from England.

Ann was a member of Enon Baptist Church. She loved to cook, mow her yard, and go out to eat.

Survivors include her husband James Reid; son Dalton Rawls; grandchildren Brittany (Blake) Sasser and Tray Rawls; great-grandson Logan Sasser; sister Margaret (Wayne) Frazier; bother Wiltz “Bubba” (Kaye) Roberts, Jr.; and nephews Daniel Roberts, Brandon Frazier, and Blake Frazier.

Pallbearers are Blake Frazier, Brandon Frazier, Daniel Roberts, Blake Sasser, Jerry Boyd, and Milton Dunaway.

Visitation will be at Enon Baptist Church on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 from 9:00 AM until service time at 11:00 AM.

Josiah Huckaby (Written by his thankful mom, KK)

Josiah has been working hard & it’s paying off! He sat & played at his activity table for almost 4 mins unassisted on Saturday. His previous record was around 1 min.

We set up a play area in his room Friday…hoping it would be a bit of motivation to work on sitting up & crawling. I guess it’s working. He even crawled under his table…but wasn’t really sure how to get back out.

 

 

 

Iris Tillery Sitman

May 03, 1927 – August 19, 2019

A resident of Baton Rouge, LA, passed away on Monday, August 19, 2019 at The Pearl at Jamestown in Baton Rouge, LA. She was born May 3,1927 in Greensburg, LA and was 92 years of age. She was life long member of First Baptist Church of Greensburg and retired Vice President at the Bank of Greensburg. She is survived by daughter, Diane G. Sitman; 2 nephews, Dickie Sitman and Mac Addison; 1 niece, Kay S. Morgan. Preceded in death by her brother, Joe Tillery; parents, Flavis and Celia Tillery; 1 nephew, Randy Sitman. Sunday Obituary

Douglas Jason Glass

October 01, 1982 – August 16, 2019

Douglas Jason Glass, 36, of Osyka, passed away, Friday, August 16, 2019 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident in St. Helena Parish.

He was born October 1, 1982 in Hammond, La.  He was the son of Timmy Glass and Sherry Dunn Shivers .

He was a member of Greensburg Baptist Church and attended Line Creek Baptist Church.  He was a member of Zachary LA Local 4644 IAFF; Urban Search and Rescue of Louisiana ;  Zachary, LA Professional Fire Fighters and a former Fire Fighter for the City of McComb Fire Department.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joe and Jewel Glass and Clayton and Carolyn Easley; his father-in-law, Sammie Cutrer and first cousins, David Stevens, Travis Easley and Breanne Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Rani Cutrer Glass of Osyka; four sons, Sammie Kaden, Daltry James, Sawyer Kline and Riggins Caul Glass of Osyka; his father and stepmother, Timmy and Gaye Glass of Greensburg; his mother and stepfather, Sherry and Robert Shivers of Greensburg; maternal  grandparents, Leslie “ Bubba” Dunn and Lois “Chee Chee” Dunn of Greensburg; his mother-in-law, Terri Cutrer of Osyka; his siblings and their spouses, Julie and Corey Martin of Longwood, FL,  Jacob and Lyndsey Glass of Pine Grove and Taylor and Drew George of Monroe, LA; brother-in-law and his wife, Chris and Dylea White of Kentwood; sister-in-law and her husband, Kayla and Nathan Pierce of Hammond; six nieces and nephews and other family members, friends and co-workers.

Visitation is Monday at Line Creek Baptist Church, 78659 LA-1053, Kentwood, LA 70444 from 5PM until 8PM and Tuesday from 9AM until services at 11AM with Bro. Justin Craft officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery with Full Active Duty Fire Department Honors.

Please continue to pray for Melinda Russell and others who have had procedures/surgeries.  I mention her name in particular because she is out of our country and undergoing medical treatment.  Also, please pray for those who will have procedures/surgeries in the coming week.

 

 

 

 

The Fall Food Roundup for the LA Baptist Children’s Home is only four weeks away.  Be sure to get your items to the church for the September 16th pickup.  Some of the items they need are:

  • Bottled water
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Dishwasher detergent
  • Canned fruit
  • Paper towels
  • Sugar

 

 

 

I’m looking forward to peeking in bags today at church to see what you have brought for Operation Christmas Child.  David and I are always excited to prepare shoeboxes so children will receive some small gifts and an opportunity for them to “meet” Jesus.

  • The Greatest Journey discipleship course is offered to show children how to know Christ and share Him with others.
  • Children lead their families to faith in Christ and new churches are born.

David Joel Carruth

A resident of Kentwood, LA, David was peacefully welcomed into heaven on August 13, 2019 after a brief illness following heart surgery. Born March 29, 1964 in Kentwood to his loving parents Ransom David Carruth and Yvonne Bryant Carruth. David was a boilermaker by trade but had been unable to work for many years. David is survived by his sisters Mary Jo Ricks of McComb, MS and Kathy Wales (Chris) of Kentwood, LA, 5 nieces and nephews Rob Ricks, Rondi Ricks, Kirk Wales, Kristen Eichholz and Korey Wales. He also had 11 great nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his companion and caregiver of many years Rachel Marvin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Barbara Carruth, and an infant brother.

A memorial service will be held at Pine Ridge United Methodist Church, Kentwood, LA on August 24, 2019 from 9:00 till the service at 11:00 A.M. officiated by Bro. Michael Townsend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pine Ridge United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund in memory of David.

Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes” will be delivered to more than 100 countries this year.  In the next four years, they will be delivered to 1,000 Pacific islands.  They were delivered to 107 unreached people groups in 46 countries in 2018.  More than 86,000 shoeboxes were received to places where churches are starting for the first time.  Shoebox gifts open doors to communities without a church.  Shoeboxes give children the opportunity to learn about Jesus.

David Ray Hilbun, Jr.

March 12, 1972 – August 12, 2019

A resident of Kentwood, LA was peacefully welcomed into the arms of Jesus on August 12, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born March 12, 1976 in McComb, MS to his loving parents, David Ray, Sr. and Judy Newsom Hilbun. David was a boilermaker by trade and took pride in his work. He would often talk for hours about a job he was on. Moving up in his career, he always looked out for the guys that worked under him and looked at them as an equal. Often he would say, “I was in their shoes at one time.” He never hesitated to get right along side them to lend a hand when needed. On his time off, David enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and especially the light of his life, his precious granddaughter, Saylor Grace. David enjoyed spending time on the river, whether it was running a trout line or just wetting a hook. He loved the peacefulness of the river, always looking for the “Big Catch”. When David wasn’t on a river bank somewhere, you could find him outside cleaning up his Harley Davidson to take a ride for the day. He loved the open air and the freedom of the open road while riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle. David is survived by his wife of 23 years, Brandi McDaniel Hilbun; 3 daughters and a son-in-law, Kelsey Hilbun, Shelby H. Oliver and husband, Bruce, and Harley Hilbun; a granddaughter, Saylor Grace Oliver; father, David Ray Hilbun, Sr.; sister, Misty Hilbun; 2 aunts, Barbara Ann Hilbun Graham and Dorothy Newsom Morris; fathers-in-law and mothers-in-law, Richard and Karen McDaniel and Jimmy and Julie Holton; 3 sisters-in-law and 2 brothers-in-law; and numerous cousins and friends that loved him dearly. He was welcomed into his heavenly home by his mother, Judy Ann Newsom Hilbun; sister, Tanya Denise Hilbun; paternal grandparents, Dave Odie and Maxine Lea Hilbun; maternal grandparents, Willie, Sr. and Helen Brumfield Newsom. Pallbearers will be Brad Yarborough, Skipper Venable, Kirk Keller, Barry Wall, Jerry Newsom, Jr. and Josh Newsom. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Prejean, Keith Keller, Kenny Ray Graham, Victor Joe Morris, Roy Blades, and Claude Forrest. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. Adrian Lovett Phillips

June 22, 1943 – August 11, 2019

Adrian Lovett Phillips

Adrian Lovett Phillips, Sr., 76 of Pine Ridge passed away, Sunday, August 11, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg.

He was born June 22, 1943 in Pine Ridge.  He was the son of Clyde Lea Phillips and Sudie Rimes Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was a longtime member of Pine Ridge Methodist Church.  He was a retired Boilermaker with Local 582 in Baton Rouge. He was an excellent mechanic and welder. His favorite pastime was fishing, especially with his grandchildren and he also loved hunting.  Mr. Phillips proudly served in the Merchant Marines.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cheryl Lynn Phillips; one grandson, Rodney Strickland and a brother, Clyde “Dutch” Phillips.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Lauree Phillips of Pine Ridge; two sons and daughters-in-law, Adrian “Phil” Phillips, Jr. and Shona and Ivy “Shorty” Williams and Annette of Pine Ridge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mona “Dee Dee” Tantillo and Jory of Albany, LA and Verda Strickland and Ronnie of Kentwood; one brother and his wife, Dennis and Cindy Phillips of Pumpkin Center, LA; four sisters and their husbands, Kathy and Bruce Harrell and Ginger and Tommy Travis of Kentwood, Marsha and Rick Vogler of Pensacola and Janet and Jimmy Myer of Hammond; his former wife and mother of their children, Joan Martin of Albany, LA seven grandsons, Tyler Travis, Hunter Phillips, Jerod Phillips, Jake Phillips, Colton Strickland, Sawyer Tantillo and Austin Williams; three granddaughters, Kristan Travis, Jordyn Tantillo and Delaney Phillips; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members and friends.

Visitation is Tuesday at Pine Ridge Methodist Church, 3893 LA-440, Kentwood, LA 70444 from 5PM until 9PM and Wednesday, August 14, 2019 from 8AM until services at 10AM with Michael Townsend officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery under the direction of Sharkey Funeral Home in Summit.

Pallbearers will be Tyler Travis, Hunter Phillips, Jerod Phillips, Jake Phillips, Colton Strickland, and Sawyer Tantillo.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Allen, W. D. Newcomb, Kenny Bush, Sonny Travis, and Ronnie Hammons.
