Friday

When did we see you a stranger

and invite you in,

or needing clothes and clothe you?

When did we see you sick or in prison

and go to visit you?’

 “The King will reply,

‘Truly I tell you,

whatever you did for one of the least

of these brothers and sisters of mine,

you did for me.’

~Matthew 25:38-40 (NIV)~

Operation Christmas Child donations were endangered by flood waters at FBC, Kentwood.  I’m thankful to report that much hard work has “saved the day” so out shoeboxes can be packed at the end of October as planned.  Today, after Bible study, ladies will be working to prepare soap and washcloths and toothpaste and toothbrushes for shipping.  The Children in Action group has already done some preliminary work to make today’s task easier.  They also used their offering from last month to purchase highlighters for the shoeboxes.  Thank-you to all who have contributed so far.  Plan to be a part of the packing party on October 29th.

Everyone except one couple at the cabin last night had family members with flood damage.  Even that family had several friends with flood damage.  What a precious time it was as David led the devotional that touched many hearts last night. We all know of the faithfulness of God and our need to “Count Your (Our) Blessings” and to have “Joy, Joy, Joy”, a song written, played, and shared by Mr. Harlon Toney.  We expressed our appreciation for churches and individuals who have worked tirelessly this past week to help others and continue to do so.  For example, Bubba Roberts worked clearing out homes all day and still came to sing and play for us last night.

This Saturday is McComb’s Gospel Opry.  Call 601-600-6704 for more information.  You’ll be amazed at how many area people are there enjoying the music and worshiping God.

At missions class last night we learned about an MK. missionary kid, from Ohio.  His birthday is tomorrow, so we sent him a card.  Praying for all missionaries and MKs on their birthdays is beneficial to us and to them.

Operation Christmas Child is in the collection and sorting stage now.  Tomorrow, after Bible study, the ladies will participate by helping to get the toiletries packed in ziplock bags and placement in the shoeboxes in October.

Today is a good day to make some purchases for Operation Christmas Child.  Ask someone what your church needs at this point.  Items we ship will make a difference in young lives.  Last night it was eye-opening to be able to stand children in front of a world map and show them the countries that prepare the boxes and then to show them all the other countries on the receiving end of OCC.

As far as the east is from the west,

so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Today, we need to continue to pray for Jimmy Williams.  Linda had to take him back to the hospital yesterday.  After some tests, they admitted him.  Pray they can identify and correct the problem.

Devotional, Scripture, and a Song

Last night, we participated in the first week of a six week study on prayer.  There were sixty-two people there to learn.  It was presented by Dr. Fortenberry.  I think we all realized we can improve our prayer time and hopefully we will.

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this:

While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Andy Taylor‘s eye procedure has enabled him to see better.  Join them in thanking God.

Bro. Joey and I met a lady who represents Samaritan’s Purse in our area.  FBC, Kentwood has been asked to become a collection site for “shoeboxes” in November.  Lots of volunteers will be needed to man this operation for eight days.  We are presently looking at three hour time slots plus others to provide cookies, coffee, etc.  If you would be interested in committing to service this way in November, please let Bro. Joey or me know as soon as possible.

“Roselyn and a Picture Book” – (Operation Christmas Child) – https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/shoebox-stories-roselyn-and-a-picture-book/

Yesterday, I had a visit from a neighbor/friend.  She brought some items for my church to include in the “shoeboxes” we are sending.  She had done this for a few years.  She blesses my heart and the heart of some little children somewhere each year.  As she left, she asked me to call her to tell her what else we could use. She is a ray of sunshine and brings “Joy” to many hearts!

If you would like to help too, ask me what we need a few more  of.  I carry the list in my purse.  You could be an instrument of God’s love to some children this year.

Harrell Sharkey is having some difficult days following surgery.  Please continue to pray for him.

Rev. Tommy Hicks long surgery had some complications, but the doctor says he will be much better after the recovery time.  Please pray.

Mr. Burnell Simpson is back in the hospital.  He was home for this 92nd birthday Tuesday.

Sherman Cutrer is home and improving.  Please continue to pray for Sherman and Jewel Kay.

Today is a good day to wear police blue to show you support for law enforcement.  I love all the support the emergency workers have been given.  It think it should be all year long every year.

Look up “Until He Comes” on bpnews.net.

Operation Christmas Child Notes – We will be putting handwritten notes in each shoebox we pack this year.  If you would like to have one included, please write it and give it to me.  I’ll see that it gets put in a box.  You can include a photo, your name and mailing address, and words of encouragement. The children at Children in Action have already written some cards.  Next week, they will participate in some preparatory work for packing the shoeboxes.  Our offering this month, our first month, will be used by a parent/teacher and a child to make some purchases for us.  I know this will be exciting for everyone.

Children on Missions (grades 1-5) and Mission Friends (ages 3-5) will meet from 6 P.M. – 7 P.M. tonight in the L-wing.  We are growing in number and hope to continue to grow.  What fun we are having as we learn about missions!

Friday Morning Bible Study – 10 A.M. – It’s always a good day to join the group.

Operation Christmas Child items are coming in.  One class has asked for a suggestion list for them.  I will provide one them and any other group that wants one.  We are now in the process of grouping and counting items collected so far.  I’m so excited.  I hope you will all get involved and catch the spirit of helping the children again this year.

The “Young” Ladies’ Birthday Party yesterday required an additional table again this month.  What a blessing to gather with other ladies for a meal, cake, and Christian fellowship!

Mr. Burnell Simpson was able to come home yesterday, just in time to celebrate his 92nd birthday Tuesday.

Mrs. Estelle Raborn has improved enough to be moved from ICU to a regular room at North Oaks.

Many of you may know Rev. Tommy Hicks and his wife, Lois.  She had an infection following  dental work that caused her to spent a number of days in the hospital.  She is home now.  Thursday, he will another back surgery.  Pray for both of them as they help each other through these difficult days.

David will be seeing a cornea specialist today and hopefully set up a time and plan for another eye surgery.  His road to get his cataracts removed from his eyes has had a number of boulders, not just rocks, but we are making our way around them and hope the end of this journey will be found in the coming months.  Please keep praying for him.

St. Helena has a special gathering to honor and pray for local police last night.  Due to the rain, they met at FBC, Greensburg.  It was a very special time for everyone present.  New Zion Baptist Church has made baskets and provided summer beverages for the police in two area towns.  The people responded in a great way when given the opportunity to help.  I’ve heard many other ways people have shown their appreciation to police officers.  I challenge you to do/say something to every police officer you meet this week and over the years to come.  I know they will be encouraged by your efforts.

“I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom

people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel.

“For he is the living God and he endures forever;

his kingdom will not be destroyed,

his dominion will never end.

He rescues and he saves;

he performs signs and wonders

in the heavens and on the earth.

He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.”

Operation Christmas Child – I trust you are making purchases each month for our Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  I have an additional request now.  This year I would like to include a note, card, or letter in each box.  That means we will need to write for several boys and girts.  You can write something as simple as “Jesus loves you and so do I.” or compose your own message.  You may use an index card, a purchased card, or a send a card you made from scratch.  You decide.  Do some now and some later.  Have your children or grandchildren help you.  If you do not live in Kentwood, but still would like to help, mail them to me or to the church.  Get in on the blessings waiting for us.

I want to remind you of this handwritten note and the difference it made.     Azima and a Handwritten Note – https://www.samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child/shoebox-stories-azima-and-a-handwritten-note/
