Maxine Janet Ricks’ Dees

July 29, 1951 – July 17, 2020

Maxine Janet Ricks’ Dees, Kentwood, LA , was born on July 29, 1951, and went to be with her heavenly father on Friday, July 17, 2020, at the age of 68. Her devoted husband of 50 years, Gary Dees, Sr. Was right by her side as she entered into the arms of her Savior, as he had remained steadfast throughout their life together. Janet Dees was a loving mother and grandmother, who loved the Lord, her church, flowers and plants and her family more than anything. She had a huge heart for all- especially children and dogs. Janet never met a dog she didn’t like and went to great lengths to feed a hungry one. She was the only person to go to an orthodonist and come home with a dog! She was known to many as “Mrs. Dees”, and drove bus 9C for 29 years for Tangipahoa Parish School System. She was a Sunday School Teacher for many years and a charter member of New Beginnings Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended. Even when her body began to fail, her faith in the Lord and Savior never once wavered. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Gary Wayne Dees, Sr.; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Gary Dees, Jr. and Sarah Thompson Dees of Roseland, LA, and Jonathan Leo Dees and Amy Stevens Dees of Albany, LA; a daughter, Leslie Jannell Dees and friend Ronald Walker of Wilmer. Her grandchildren include Brentley Dees, Olivia and Trey Dees, Meghan Dees and Shawn and Beth Hilburn Walker and Alex Miller; great-grandchildren, Lexie and Lizzie Walker. Also, she is survived by her twin sister and brother-in-law, Helen Janice Ricks’ Bond and Dale Bond of Franklinton, LA; a sister Billie Jean Ricks’ Smith and Wayne Smith of McComb, MS and a brother and sister-in-law, Johnny Ricks’ and Jean Fairburn Ricks’ of Kentwood, LA. She is also survived by numerous other nieces and amazing friends and family members. Mrs. Dees was preceded in death by her loving parents, Leo and Maxine Ricks’ and a niece, Tammy Jan Ricks. July 29, 1927 – July 14, 2020

Bennie J. Baham, Sr. a resident of Loranger, LA, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at his home. He was born July 29, 1927 in Osceola, LA and was 92 years of age. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and riding 4-wheelers with the grandchildren. He was a deacon at Lee Valley Baptist Church for many years. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Thelma Louise Baham; daughter, Deborah B. Reid and husband Richard; 3 sons, Bennie Baham, Jr. and wife, Amie, David Keith Baham and Jerry Roger Baham; grandchildren, Lisa Harris, husband Torrey, Joey Reid , wife Jami, Anna Estis, husband, Stacey, Alyssa Duchesne, husband Tyler, Amanda Stutes, husband Devin, Ryan Baham, Lerinda Poulter, husband, Kyle, Christian Sullivan Brandon Baham and Jeremiah Baham; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Hannah, Molly, Sawyer, Harper, Asher, Kenli, Karlee, Kolton, Thella and Taylor; sister, Viola O’Bery. Deborah Miller Wilkinson

August 21, 1960 – July 17, 2020

      Deborah “Zsa Zsa” Wilkinson was a strong woman of God who was full of incredible faith and undeniable joy. On July 17, 2020, she passed from this life into the next where she met her savior Jesus face to face. She was at peace in her home surrounded by her loved ones.
       Deborah Miller Wilkinson was born August 21, 1960 in Independence, LA and was 59 years of age. Zsa Zsa touched every life she encountered and left a mark on every heart. To know her was to love her. Her zest for life was contagious and her courage was unsurpassed. She was a true worshiper at heart and loved Jesus with everything she had. She adored her three sons and her daughter-in-laws. She loved being “Zsa Zsa” to her grandbabies— They were one of her greatest sources of joy in this life. We look forward to the day where we are united together again in Heaven.
       She is survived by husband of 40 years, Leroy Wilkinson of Amite; 3 sons, Dustin Wilkinson and wife, Madelyn Wilkinson of Amite, Jacob Wilkinson and wife, Hannah Wilkinson of Amite and Jordan Wilkinson and wife, Whitney Wilkinson of Montpelier; parents, Lloyd Miller and Elizabeth Conerly of Amite; sister, Brandi Faunce and husband, Curtis Faunce of Loranger; brother, Kenny Miller and wife, Samantha Miller of Amite; 6 grandchildren, Kenlea Wilkinson, Brooks Wilkinson, Rivers Wilkinson, Harper Wilkinson, Bradlee Wilkinson and Collins Wilkinson and numerous friends and family. Angie Nielsen is requesting pray for her mother, Tay Cotton, who has been admitted to a hospital in Baton Rouge because of weakness and fatigue.  Angie is especially concerned about the Covid-19 virus in a hospital setting.

 

 

 

Speaking of Covid-19, the number of cases locally seems to be increasing daily.  Please be careful!

 

 

 

Keith and Lori Rhodes

Last Friday we made the decision to move Lori Lantz Rhodes to hospice care. It’s been a challenging week all the way around. I’ve watched my beautiful bride continue to decline as this terrible disease attacks her body. We’ve shed many tears these last few days.

As I put Lori in bed for the night, she looks at me and says, “We made it another day.”

Martha Simpson asked for special prayers for Matthew Simpson who had emergency surgery.  Matthew is on the road to recovery now.

 

 

 

Bro. Bobby Eads, a former youth minister at FBC, Kentwood, asks for prayers for his wife, Susie Eads, as they will meet with a surgeon today to plan/schedule a double mastectomy.  (They still live in Hazel Green, Alabama where they have been for 26 years. Bro. Bobby is a bi-vocational pastor and hospital chaplain.

April 25, 1929 – July 12, 2020

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born April 25, 1929 in Magnolia, MS and was 91 years of age. He was a member at the Tangipahoa United Methodist Church. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Allison Gutierrez (JB) and Mary Ann Willson (Paul); 1 son, Arnold Pezant (Danielle); 1 sister, Bobbie Brashear (George); 2 brothers, Paul Pezant (Jimmie) and Halbert Pezant (Hideko); 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Pike Pezant; son, Stuart Jay Pezant; parents, Willie Paul Pezant and Eliza Jane Rhodus Pezant; sister, Jonnie Jackson. Good Morning everyone. Monday update from me. All is going great and I am doing everything that is important for me to go home to my precious husband of almost 52 years. He is my life. My Daughter Terri Smith Merklein is an angel and my son Joel is there to keep me in smiles all the time. His sweet smile just brings tears of joy. My Hayden Lance Merklein and Lia Lucero Smith are just super in all they do. Lance makes me the best food. The grandkids are just special to me. They are handling things great. Tanner Roberts and Erin McGinnis I love these special grandkids. I just want to thank all of you for the prayers and concerns and will still need them so e every one please wear your mask, wash your hands and social distance. Learned a lot here in hospital and it works. Do it 3 weeks and let’s flip this sad scenario. May God Bless all of you and love you all.

 

 

 

A former students asks for prayers for her mother who has a respiratory problem that she deals with periodically, not the virus.

 

 

 

Another former student shared he lost a parent to the virus and urges others to wear a mask so they do not have a similar experience.

I received a request for prayer for Ann Whitman, Linda Frazier’s sister.  Her cancer has possibly returned.  I know you will pray for Ann and her family.

 

 

 

This morning, I found out about the mandate for face masks in our state for the next two weeks.  That won’t change anything with us.  When someone has a compromised immune system like David, I hope you can understand we do anything that possibly will help him.  Also, I don’t want to be the person that causes someone else to be sick.  Please pray for this virus situation to improve and vaccinations to be developed.

I have an update on Sue Smith.  Surgery went well and she is doing fine.  Keep praying her liver transplant is a success.

 

 

 

Bryan’s Journey

Today is our final traveling day for this round. Ready to be home for 3 months ! All test, procedures were good. One more month long trip to Houston in the fall and he will be finished with treatments.

We are thankful for all the Prayers , telephone calls, visits, cards from all of our friends and family.

We have been blessed . God had been faithful.

James “Jim’ McKean, Jr.

October 20, 1933 -July 8, 2020

James “Jim” Marshall McKean, Jr. passed on to the next life surrounded by family on July 8, 2020 at his home in Greensburg. He was born on October 20, 1933 in Slidell and was 86 years old.

A loyal member of the Iron Workers Local 623, Iron Workers Local 58, and Boilermakers Union of Baton Rouge. He worked for nearly 50 years in the construction industry. He was also a dairy farmer for many years. When he retired, he then focused on expanding and growing the family farm, raising bees and collecting honey.

He is survived by his wife Glenda Moak McKean. They were married on December 1, 1962 in New Orleans. They enjoyed 57 wonderful years together building their family farm. Also survived by siblings Bill and Paul McKean; children Lisa (David) King, daughter-in-law, Karol McKean, Patricia (David) Bartkowiak, Roy (Jan) McKean, Beckie McKean, Betty (Tommy) Turner; sisters-in-law Martha Moak Martin and Barbara (Henry) Wallace; siblings-in-law Fay McKean, Ralphadean McKean, and Henry Doughty; grandchildren Josh (Shonagh) McKean, Victoria (Jeff) Lewandrowski, Kaleigh and Jacob McKean, Tyler King, Amanda (Quentin) Freeney, Matt (Pamela) LaRoche, Christine (Joshua) Chadwick, Roy (Selena) McKean Jr., Crystal (Bobby) Finley, Tommy Jr. (Jennifer), Charlotte, DeAnn, Tammy, and Glenda McKean, Cody and Casey Goraum, Alice and Alan Turner; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by parents Isabel Barber and James Marshall McKean, Sr.; sons Jimmy, Jason, and Tommy McKean; siblings Lee (Irene) McKean, Elizabeth (Leonard) Soeller, John Mckean, Theresa Doughty, Peter McKean; sister-in-law Helena McKean; sister-in-law Ester Moak Pope; sons-in-law Ronnie LaRoche, Tommy Carswell; grandson Clayton Turner.

He donated his body to science. Visitation will be 2-3 PM prior to a memorial service on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:00 PM at Arcola Baptist Church, 64401 I-55 Frontage Rd, Roseland, LA 70456, where he and Glenda were members. A graveside service will be announced in the near future where his ashes will be returned to rest by his sons in Greensburg Cemetery.

Family requests either live plants or artificial flowers suitable for the cemetery in lieu of flower arrangements.

Honorary pallbearers include:
Henry Wallace, David King, Josh McKean, Jacob McKean, Tyler King, Orian Williams, Ken Pope, Kaleigh McKean, Victoria Lewandrowski.

Vacation Bible School at FBC, Kentwood

I spoke with the secretary via phone yesterday.  She said everything was going well with VBS.  Over 100 people are in attendance each day.  The family night program will be at 5 PM Sunday.  It will be live-streamed like a regular church service.
