Birdie Mae Little Spitale

March 05, 1931 – March 08, 2018

On March 8th 2018 Birdie Mae Little Spitale said her final goodbye to her daughters to join her Lord and mother in heaven. On this day, March 8th, she also joined her husband on his birthday. She passed away after a long struggle with dementia at Tangi Pines Nursing Center. She was a native of Arcola and a resident of Amite. She was born to Hulon and Irma Smith Little on March 5, 1931 as Birdie Mae Little. Over the years, she worked very hard on the family farm. Also, she worked at Currier’s Cleaners, B. Stern’s, Tangi Pines Nursing Center, Amite Elementary, and Amite High School. Upon retiring, she enjoyed reading, LSU Football (especially Mike the Tiger), and going out to eat. In the last few months of her life, she enjoyed dining at Murphy’s in Amite where everyone treated her with much kindness. She leaves behind her 2 daughters, Debra and Kathy Spitale who will miss her dearly. She raised them to be strong independent women with strength to endure life without her but she will always and forever be with them. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Little, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lee A. Spitale; sisters, Muriel Heth, Daphne “Pat” Hayden, and Wilma Lois Brown; brothers, Cecil Little, Robert Little, and Louis J. Little; parents, Hulon and Irma Smith Little. Kathy and Debra would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Tangi Pines Nursing Center for the care and respect given to their mother. Also, a special thank you to Debra’s family at Thrift Town Pharmacy.  A thank you also to Peggy Wall who also sent special cards that our mom loved to read. The family requests donations to be made to McKneely Funeral Home in Amite. Visitation at Big Creek Church of Christ from 11 a.m. until religious services at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 12, 2018. Glen Magee is still in St. Tammany hospital.  Keep him in your prayers.

 

 

Mr. Phillip Harrell is in the Greensburg hospital.  He was very uncomfortable yesterday.  Let’s pray today is better for him and his family.

 

 

Dan Turner fell yesterday and broke his hip.   He’s hospitalized at UMMC.

A classmate, Pam,  requested prayers for a her sister, Karen, who is undergoing cancer treatment, and for a former classmate, Sheryl Andrus Carnegie, who is searching for the proper surgeon.

Glen R. Kimble, Sr.

December 31, 1941 – March 08, 2018

Glen R. Kimble, Sr., a resident of Independence, passed away peacefully at his home  on Thursday, March 8, 2018 surrounded by his love ones.  He was born December 31, 1941 in Roseland and was 76 years of age. He was a 1st class welder by trade and a #1 dad and granddad. He loved the country life, farming and planting his garden and watching it grow. He loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed cooking with his family. He loved his grandchildren and great grandbabies. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Laverne Newcomb Kimble; children, Robbie Kimble and wife, Sandra, Michael R. Kimble, and wife, Amy, and Donna Lynn Kimble, and John E. Kimble; grandchildren, Amanda Kimble, Glen Kimble, III, and wife, Melissa, Keith Mixon, Summer Straton and husband, Donny, Aubrey Mixon and wife, Brittany, Sonny Kimble, Mariah Kimble and Desmond Newcomb; great grandchildren, Jeremiah Nievar, Addie LeBlanc, Zamara Mixon, Bella Mixon, Maliegh Kimble, Nathan Kimble, Everly Newcomb and Paxston Straton; brothers, Milton Kimble and wife, Marie, Luke Kimble and wife, Tonya, and George Kimble and wife, Sharee; sisters, Irma Smith, Anne O’Malley and husband, Tim and Edie Tate and husband, Will; sister in law, Sandra Prine; and numerous nieces and nephews. Operation Christmas Child 

If you have a desire to help with the early efforts to collect and make items for the boys and girls who are going to receive “shoeboxes” this year, please talk with me.  I can give you some ideas on what to do.  I am working daily and enjoying every minute.

 

 

Ministry at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail

Yesterday, a deliver of over a hundred Bibles and several boxes of calendars was made yesterday.  The people who received the items were appreciative.  Thank you for wanting to help minister to the inmates in various ways.  The items for the next collection are already being collected.  If you have or plan to purchase Bibles, remember we need paperback Bible that have medium to large print.  Calendars for 2018 will still be accepted.  You may be able to find them at greatly reduced prices now.

 

 

 

Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home

Some practical needs items are listed below.  You can place these items in the stairwell area at the office entrance (where you buzz the secretary for entrance).  There are two baskets there for your convenience.  We have a little over a month to collect as much as we can.

I hope you are reading about and praying for the North American missionaries featured each day this week, the week of prayer for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.

 

 

Bobby Simpson is doing well following Monday’s procedure.  Keep him in your prayers as he heals.

 

 

Elton Shaw seems to be having a relapse.  Please put him back on your personal prayer list.

 

 

Joanne Tate, the three month old daughter of Chuck and Jeanne Tate, will require open heart surgery to correct problems in her tiny heart.  The Tates live in the Terry’s Creek area.   Pray for God to take care of this precious little one.

 

 

 

Danielle Dillon and family are celebrating the completion of her chemotherapy as she moves on to radiation soon.  Please pray for Danielle.

Phillip Harrell was not feeling real well yesterday.  Please pray for him to be comfortable.  Pray too for his faithful caregivers, Don and Phyllis Yarborough.
I’m expecting to hear today or tomorrow that Glen Magee is home from the hospital to continue his recovery from surgery.
There seem to be a number of people with the flu again this year.  Be careful when you are around others.  We need to contain this as much as possible.

Tony Bennett is doing very well following five by-passes yesterday.  His heart quickly began working much better than pre-surgery.  Thanking God!

 

 

Scott Womack‘s heart procedure has been delayed due to a scheduling problem.  His surgery is now scheduled for the 20th at St. Tammany.  That give us all more time to pray.

 

 

Aubrey McMillan‘s surgeon was able to do five of the ten needed by-passes yesterday.  Pray for Aubrey as he recovers.  Also, pray for Carolyn as she has been having some back problems.  She is Aubrey’s primary caregiver.

 

 

Rhonda Hendry is recovering nicely form having the remainder of her thyroid removed.  Thank God the spot was found now, not later.

 

 

Pray for Wayne Landley as he has preparatory work for treatment of his cancer.  As you pray for him, pray for Glenda, his primary caregiver.

 

 

Pray for Glen Magee as he continues to recover from surgery and makes preparations to return home at the end of the week.  Again, think of caregivers who will be helping Glen to recover and move around on the desired timeline.

 

 

Mrs. Ruby Dillon injured a shoulder a couple weeks ago.  It is better now.  She got a good report from the doctor yesterday.   Thank God for the shoulder improvement.

 

 

Iley Dillon continues to progress following knee surgery.   Thank God  for his good recovery.

 

 

Please continue to pray for Gail M. Smith who is in Tennessee and I.W. Simmons at home in Line Creek.  Pray for family members serving as caregivers too.

 

 

 

Operation Christmas Child 

  • A plastic bowl and spoon is always a good item for a shoe box.
  • March is the traditional month to make quality crafts, knit hats, wooden cars, pencil pouches, etc., to share in shoe boxes.  You might find some of these at craft shows this spring.

A delivery of Bibles and calendars will be made to the Bible study group at the Tangipahoa Parish Jail tomorrow.  Special thanks to those who understand the need for these items and supple them for this ministry.

 

 

The Friday morning Bible study is anticipating the study of Romans which begins this week.  Anyone with a desire to study this book of the Bible is encouraged to come.  Bring your Bible.  It will be our guide.  If you have a study Bible, bring it.  The translation of the Bible you use is a personal choice.  One more thing, bring a friend or two.  We meet in the fellowship hall of FBC, K at 10 A.M.

God blessed me with a box of craft items Sunday night.  Yesterday, a lady called about more craft items to use for Operation Christmas Child.  Lots of boys and girls will be blessed because others are cleaning out their craft/sewing closets!

Pray for young Koltyn Gafford of Amite.  He has the flu.  His other health problems complicate the flu problem.

Yesterday was a great day!  The associational WMU meeting at FBC, Greensburg was a time to inspire each other as we learned about the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.  That was followed by the Two Rivers annual meeting at Spring Creek last night.  I was blessed to have been in each meeting.

 

 

Three days and counting – The new Bible study of Romans will begin Friday morning in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.  The Bible will be our textbook with no other required reading.  You do not have to belong to FBC, Kentwood to attend.  Our first meeting will be an introductory meeting to Romans, so feel free to read the introduction to Romans that can be found in most Bibles.  Work as much or as little as you feel led to do each week.  In other words, it’s easy to participate at the level of involvement you choose.  No additions books are required.  No cost involved.  Contact me if you have questions.  No questions, just show up Thursday at 10:00 A.M.

David’s brother, Jimmy, called early yesterday morning to say the results of tests he had done Friday were in.  Jimmy’s cancer indicators have dropped from the 400″s to less than 10, a reading considered normal.  There are some people named Alford who are very thankful this morning.

 

 

 

A new Bible study, Romans, will begin Friday.  I saw a friend from another church yesterday who asked about attending.  Of course, that will be just fine, even great!   It’s not about your church connection!   It’s about a desire to study God’s Word!  Contact me or just show up Friday in the fellowship hall of FBC, Kentwood.  This week we will talk about who, what, when, etc.  The next week, we will begin with chapter on.  Come learn with us.  We begin at 10:00 A.M.

 

 

Read the Bible – Reflect on God as Redeemer and catch up on passages you might not have read yet.

 

 

There’s excitement stirring in some hearts at FBC, Kentwood as people are getting involved in Operation Christmas Child.  A new approach this year seems to have opened our hearts to new opportunities, theme boxes, crafts for children to make, etc.  We’ll be happy to share our enthusiasm with others.  Children, far from Kentwood, will be blessed as they receive gifts and LEARN ABOUT JESUS!  The word from Kentwood is doing things differently can be even more exciting for those of us packing the shoeboxes.

 

 

The associational WMU will meet this morning at FBC, Greensburg to learn about the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering.  Join us at 10:00 A.M.  You’ll also get an opportunity to learn about the missionaries featured in the Week of Prayer this week.

 

 

This week has the potential for being extra special for some people.  Let’s include ourselves in that number.

Iley Dillon’s knee surgery went well yesterday.  His doctor was pleased with his progress on the afternoon of surgery.  Iley should be able to go home in a few days.

 

 

Glen Magee’s surgery yesterday at St. Tammany involved four by-passes.  All went well.

 

 

Please continue to pray for Mr. John Alan Blackwell.

 
Also, please pray for Rhonda Hendry as she recovers from Thursday’s surgery at North Oaks.

The WMU meeting Monday will be at FBC, Greensburg at 10:00 and involve a study of the Annie Armstrong Offering.

 

 

A volunteer team of men for FBC, Kentwood built a ramp for Mrs. Bessie Hayden yesterday.  Bless each one who gave of themselves yesterday!  It will be good to see her out and about again.

 

 

Enjoy this day God has sent us by doing something for others and something for yourself.

Rhonda Hendry had the latest thyroid surgery this morning.  Let’s pray as she recovers from surgery and waits for a clean bill of health.

 

 

Glen Magee is having open heart surgery at 8:00 in the morning at St. Tammany hospital.  As we pray for him, let’s pray for his family.

 

 

Tammie Y. Roberts request we pray for June Baker and her family.

Please pray for a co-worker of Dwayne’s and their family . Jarrod and Meg Baker’s little girl , June , has been diagnosed with leukemia . They are seeking treatment at St Jude’s . June is almost 4 years old . I need all my prayer warriors to put little June Baker on your prayer list .

     June had surgery today.  All procedures and chemo went well.

 

 

Jean Lewis Myers

Jean Lewis Myers, a resident of Greensburg, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2018 at her home. She was born June 3, 1934 in Barnstable, England and was 83 years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Rosanna Myers Stewart and husband, Larry; 4 grandchildren, Christopher Stewart and wife, Jennifer, Melissa Stewart, Jeremy Stewart, and Laura Ann Webb and husband, Ronnie; and her 3 great grandchildren, Ainsley Stewart, Ian Stewart and Marlyn Kathyrn Webb. Preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Myers; son, Daniel Boone Myers; and her parents, William and Beatrice Lewis. A Memorial Service will be held at a late date. A former student, Malanie Harrell, is soon to be honored by teachers and classmates.  This will give her an opportunity to see many of those she hasn’t seen in the last many years at one time.  Pray for this reunion to be all Melanie dreams of.

 

 

Ken Roberts is improving.  She was able to sit up yesterday.  Pray for Ken as his body adjusts to his new heart.

 

 

Ferrie Gene Blackmon is improving and will soon leave rehab for home.

 

 

Bessie Hayden is still making improvements.  Pray for her as she see her doctors to determine what is next in her treatment.

 

 

Please continue to pray for Mr. John Alan Blackwell.  He’s still at North Oaks.

 

 

Eric Lee has a side-step in his treatment.  He had to Baton Rouge for a problem with his pic-line.  Pray for his continuing treatment.

 

 

Rob Anderson, son in law of Robert and Ora Lee Wilson, is doing better.  Thank-you for your prayers for him and his family, especially has his family had a big move to a northestern city during this time.

 

 

Rhonda Hendry of Chesbrough has been having some issues with her thyroid.  She learned yesterday that there is a little carcinoma remaining and will undergo surgery to remove it.  Please pray for Rhonda and her family.

 

 

I have two messages to share about two great pastors I have know.  I think you will be touched by these.  I got to hear both of them many times and am so blessed for that.
