Dolly Frazier‘s eye surgery went well yesterday.  She will have a second eye surgery in two weeks.  Pray all goes well.

 

 

 

David saw a liver specialist yesterday.  Despite all his problems, she said the liver has improved since January.  This was good news.   The next visit there will be in three months.

June 18, 1961 – May 01, 2019

A resident of Greensburg, LA, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Hospital in Greensburg, LA. Please . pray for my cousin, Scott Tolleson, who has HD.  He has had complications from recent falls and is hospitalized.

Thanks go the person who sent a box of beads for use in the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes.  Also, thanks to those of you who have contributed plastic Easter eggs for the shoeboxes.  Each and every item will go in shoeboxes in the fall.  We collect now and pack later.  Don’t forget to take the time to check out the items in the tote on the organ.  These items represent some of the items we will use this year.  You can also contribute by giving to the Operation Christmas Child Fund at church.  Marking you envelope “OCC” or “Shoeboxes” is all you have to do.

 

 

 

The weather has been beautiful.  We have enjoyed sitting on the patio.  Pray for everyone to be able to get out or to look out and enjoy God’s creation.

 

 

 

Please continue to pray for those who have needs.  They might be spiritual, physical, emotional, etc.

I’m not sure it happened yesterday, but Brett Frazier was planning, with his doctor’s approval, to go back to work yesterday.  I’m thankful for the progress Brett has made and hopeful he will continue to do so.

April 22, 1922 – April 28, 2019

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019 at St. Helena Parish Nursing Home in Greensburg, LA. She was born April 22, 1922 in Greensburg, LA and was 97 years of age. She is survived by 2 nieces, Betty Hatcher and Carolyn Dykes; 1 nephew, Curtis Dykes; 1 great-nephew, Jimmy Hatcher and wife, Barbara; 2 great-great-nephews, Major Hatcher and wife, Charita, and Justin Hatcher. Preceded in death by husband, A.J. Redmond; parents, Hosa and Georgie Addison. Sue Ellen Blanchard Carter

May 18, 1943 – April 26, 2019

Sue Ellen Blanchard Carter died peacefully at home on April 26, 2019. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 18, 1943. She was married to the love of her life, William M. Carter, Sr. for 48 years of what everyone described as the greatest love story that they have ever seen. Sue Carter was a loving wife, caring and supportive Momma, devoted daughter and cherished “Sista”. She was a selfless giver, she gave all she had and never asked for anything in return. She gave her time, her talents, her wisdom, but most of all her heart. She always found the good in everyone, always positive, full of joy with some added spunk. Sue retired from Walmart in Waveland, MS after 21 years of service. She was adored by everyone who knew her and will always be remembered as “Sweet Sue”. We will miss her every single day but knowing that she is at peace is such a comfort.  She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William M. Carter, Sr. Parents, Martin O. Blanchard, Jr and Myrtle C. Blanchard of Bay St. Louis, MS. She is survived by her 4 children, William M. “Billy” Carter, Jr. and wife Yolanda of Kentwood, LA, Sandy Carter Newman and husband Mitch of Kentwood, LA, Jenny Carter Jackson and husband Albert of St. Francisville, LA, and Douglas Martin Carter, Sr. and wife Mary of Picayune, MS; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, and 2 siblings, Martin O. Thanks to all who have ministered to David and me during his illness.  Your goodness and love continue to flow into our lives.  We both would much rather be doing for others, but this is God’s plan for our lives at this time.  We continue to be blessed and blessed again.

David‘s blood level was still at 7.3.  He did not get blood and hasn’t had any for more than a month.  His kidneys were doing well.  We’ll get info on liver Thursday.  He weight is up to 150.

Easley, Jr. and wife, Terri; Peggy Allen, significant other and care giver; Jan LaBorde, the mother of his children; 5 grandchildren, Brannon Holton, Micah Holton, Donald B. “Trey” Easley, III, Dustin J. I find “shoeboxes” a way old and young alike can help share the Good News about Jesus!

 

 

 

I hope you are thinking about and making purchases to pack some OCC kits.  Some examples of kits are:

  • Hair fixin’s (ribbons, pony tail holders, combs, brushes, etc.)
  • Handyman items (screw driver, screws, small hammers, nails, measuring tapes, etc.)
  • Jewelry (necklaces, bracelets, rings, etc.)
  • School supplies (pens, pencils, makers, erasers, 6 ” rulers, push pins, post it notes, etc.)
  • Fishing kits (hooks, floaters, sinkers, string, etc.)
  • Jewelry making items (beads, elastic string, crosses, etc.)
  • Kitchen kits (measuring spoons, dish cloths, stirring spoons, serving spoons, etc.)
  • Sewing kits (scissors, fabric, thread, buttons, lace, etc.)
  • Small toys for boys (cars, tractors, plastic animals, marbles, etc.)
  • Band aids of various sizes and designs
  • Puzzle with a photo copy of picture from box
  • Let your imagination be your guide,

 

 

 

Some packing ideas I shared with a neighbor are the tall rectangular cans that hold drink mixes, chip containers, small pencil cases, and medicine bottles.   These can be used to hold any of the items listed above.  Note: It is helpful if you remove the labels or cover them with contact paper or colorful duct tape.  It is also helpful if you wash all you containers so there is no residue from the original contents.

 

 

 

I suppose you get the idea by now, that now is the time to make purchases for “shoeboxes”.  If you need any additional information so you, your family, a class, a church, a school, etc. can get started, please contact me.  I love to help get others started in this wonderful opportunity we have every year.

Operation Christmas Child is the program that sends “shoeboxes” filled with clothing, toiletries, school supplies, and toys to children around the world.  By taking your gifts out of the bulky packaging, you can put more items in the “shoeboxes”.  I have a tote on the organ at church that contains some suggestions for purchases.  I hope you will check it out and have a great trip shopping.  If you attend another church in our area, feel free to go to the office during office hours and ask someone to show you where to look.  These are not the only items, but are good ideas of some of the things that can be purchased year-round.

You may want to craft some items: tote bags, jump ropes, bean bags with plastic pellets or small pebbles, pencil pouches, shirts, dresses, pillowcases, lap blankets, etc.  You can check Pinterest for many ideas.

Boxes will need $9.00 for postage.  Printed materials to introduce the children to Jesus will be added.  The printed materials are in the language of the country where the children live.  It is not a good idea to send printed materials written in English.

In early November, the boxes can be sent to a collection site.  FBC, Kentwood is one of the more local sites for many of you.  You can check the OCC site on the computer for more information about sites, packing, deadlines, etc.

While I was reading about “No Clothing”, I thought of the Hope Center in Roseland.  They accept donations of various kinds, including clothing, Tuesday through Friday 9 A.M. – 5 P.M.

Hazel Louise Lee Allen

January 31, 1937 – April 25, 2019

Hazel Louise Lee Allen, a resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on April 25, 2019 at Heritage Healthcare Center in Hammond, LA. She was born on January 31, 1937 in Amite, LA, a graduate of Amite High School, a member of the Amite Church of Christ, and was 82 years old. She was friends with nearly everyone and could often be found at the Kentwood Cafe with her sister Rose, checking in with everyone else in the restaurant before eating her own food. She loved to help others, and spent her spare time as a volunteer foster grandparent with the Head Start program, serving as a mentor and friend to underprivileged children. Reading was her favorite hobby, and she likely read every mystery novel the Kentwood Library ever had in stock. She is survived by her two sons, David and James Allen, Jr.; grandchildren, Katie, Eli, Savana, Landon, Jordan, and Stephen Allen; sister Rosalie Wheeler; brother-in-law, Keith Allen; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Gill and her husband, Billy, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was very proud of her family, and they will all miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Lois Lee; siblings, Marvin and Julia Lee; and her husband of 60 years, James K. Joanne Seymour  has been battling cancer.  Her recent scans were all clean.  That’s a whole year of good reports.  Please thank God for the good report.

 

 

 

Rick and Krystal Slaven Campbell are the proud parents of Abigail Olivia who was born yesterday morning at 8:55.  She weighed 7 pounds 14 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long.  Pray for them as they raise their precious daughter in a loving, Christian home.

 

 

 

Mary Criswell sent word that Hazel Allen passed away yesterday afternoon, but did not know any arrangements yet.  I will post them when they become available.

 

 

 

Thursday, May 2,  will be the annual National Day of Prayer.  Keep your eyes and ears open for ways you can participate.  The theme this year is  “Love One Another”.
