DEATH
Davis “Mike” Gaines Reid
May 18, 1943 – April 10, 2023

Davis Gaines Reid “Mike”, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away April 10, 2023. He was the fourth son of Dorothy Gaines Reid and Shelby S. Reid, Jr, born on May 18, 1943 in Magnolia, MS. He graduated from Amite High School and attended Southeastern Louisiana University
He will be fondly remembered by his classmates and the entire community as one of those five infamous “Reid Boys”, an outstanding young man chosen President of his Class of 1961. Mike ran track at AHS and was named an All-State member on the State Championship team, the first in history of Amite High. Mike also participated in track and field at SLU winning many awards for his talents.
Mike married the love of his life, Evelyn Claire Hendry and moved to Roseland, where he spent his entire working life at Elmer Hendry’s Grocery and later buying The Pantry, an ever-busy store in the center of Roseland. Mike was a well-respected business man and was counted as a good friend by many. All five of the Reid boys spent most of their adult life in their hometown area, living less than five miles apart.
Evelyn and Mike adored their two boys: Brian Derrick Reid (Monica) of Roseland and Brent Davis Reid of Ponchatoula. They were blessed with four grandchildren, two boys and two girls: Zachary Taylor Reid and Michael Joseph Reid of Roseland, and Hannah Reid and Ella Claire Reid of Ponchatoula. His greatest joys came from spending time on the river with his family in Springfield, where he still has a place today.
In addition he will be remembered by his two brothers: Lawrence W. Reid (TJ) and Charles Morgan Reid (Cindy) of Amite. He will be missed by numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 34 years, Evelyn Claire Reid, by his father, Shelby S. Reid, Jr., his mother, Doris Gaines Reid, his infant sister, Doris Elizabeth Reid, his older brothers, Shelby S. Reid, III and James Aubrey Reid. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation at St. Helena Catholic Church, Amite, on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 9:30am to 11:30am with services at 12 Noon. Burial will be at the Arcola-Roseland Cemetery.

PRAYER FOCUS
Today, let’s pray for caregivers. Many illnesses are long-term requiring caregivers for years. Pray for family members who serve as caregivers year after year.
