Pray for the situation in Afghanistan. Pray as God leads you. Pray for all involved.

Gibbie McMillan

December 05, 1952 – August 17, 2021

Edward Gibbie McMillan, 68, of Kentwood, LA, passed away on August 17, 2021, after a valiant battle of COVID pneumonia.

Gibbie was born on December 5, 1952, in New Orleans, LA to Fernie Edward McMillan and Lilly Blanchette Conerly.

Growing up, Gibbie had a challenging, yet full childhood. Filled with energy and a dynamic personality, Gibbie was the “life of the party” even when there was no party! He graduated from Kentwood High School in 1970. To know Gibbie, was to love him.

Abundant life for Gibbie began in 1973 when he was radically saved. Soon thereafter God called him to preach the Good News of Jesus. After graduating with a degree in Bible from Mississippi College, he pursued a Master of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Luther Rice Seminary.

During his studies and upon graduation, Gibbie served on staff and pastored churches in Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas, and Arkansas. Between pastoring, he served the Lord as a prison chaplain with the Louisiana Department of Correction and director of Disaster Relief for Southern Baptist of Texas Convention and Louisiana Baptist and supervised Louisiana’s Royal Ambassadors’ program. He shared Christ in North America, Honduras, Haiti, the Bahamas, Russia, and Romania. Gibbie never met a stranger, and he freely shared Jesus without hesitation.

Gibbie is survived by the loving community of his Christian brothers and sisters, and his wife of 47 years, Katera McDaniel McMillan, their daughters: Rachel (Adam) Rhodes and Rebekah (Michael) Powers, and grandchildren Dylan, Harper, and Jackson. Gibbie is also survived by one sister, Linda (Robert) Callihan, an uncle, Gerald (Emily) McMillan, aunts, Beverly Gex and Debbie McMillan, and numerous cousins. He was proceeded in death by his parents, his in-laws, E.P. and Kitty McDaniel, and one brother, Glenn McMillan.

Friends are invited to celebrate Gibbie’s life on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at New Zion Baptist Church (We encourage wearing a mask.). Visitation is from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with the service immediately following. Dr. Jim Richards and Rev. Harold Thornton will officiate. (The service will be live-streamed on the New Zion Baptist Facebook page.) Interment will follow at New Zion Cemetery. September 27, 1966 – August 17, 2021

Edward Merril Granger, a resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at his home. He was born September 27, 1966 in Independence, LA and was 54 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Melissa Granger; 2 daughters, Brandy Granger and Desiree Granger; 9 grandchildren, Chasity Granger, Braden Pfisterer, Edward Granger,II, Cayden Granger, Raelynn Rager, Lakota Granger, M.J. Rager, Lalana Granger and Latrinity Granger; sister, Becky Granger; 6 brothers, Gary McCarroll, Jack “Catfish” Granger, Jules Granger, David Granger, Bill Granger and Doug Granger; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Marjorie Granger; daughter, Dawn Granger; sister, Barbara Morgan; 2 brothers, Earl McCarroll and J.L. Granger.
