Tuesday

Let us acknowledge the LORD; let us press on to acknowledge him. As surely as the sun rises, he will appear; he will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth.”

Prayer Focus Today

OCC Thank-You

You are greatly appreciated if you make purchases, give money, or perform tasks for OCC. Today, I wish to thank the family that helped by sending an Amazon order for the March items and now for the April items we suggested – all five of the items. All five items were ordered and delivered to me last week. What a generous heart for missions! They are seeing, not a picture of us packing shoeboxes, but of a child opening a shoebox that contains some of our essential items, like a toothbrush that is not always possible for them. The child will have the opportunity to gather with other children for some lessons, similar to Sunday School lessons, that introduce them to Jesus and gives them a chance to have Him for their Savior.

Another individual, a man, called to ask what he could order for us. He had a tax refund and was spending a portion of it for Shoebox item. When the order came in he started investing time in dividing it as we need it to pack.

While I am thanking a generous individuals, I also want to thank Sunday School classes that ask Wanda Smith to place Amazon orders for them. She would gladly do so for other classes too. If you give her your money, she will order what you suggest or ask me what is most needed. I love to see the Amazon boxes.

There are two men who have a number of pencils to sharpen. That’s a slow process, but they gladly give their time to give pencils their first sharpening on electric sharpeners.

One more group I need to mention is those who gladly give time when I let them know we have something they can do. There are periodic needs when we unexpectedly find we need some help. I appreciate these volunteers too!

If you have some time to give us, tell us. If you told me and I forgot, tell me again.

“See” you tomorrow.

Nelda Rohner Boyd

August 3, 1927 – April 13, 2024

Nelda Rohner Boyd was born in Montpelier, Louisiana on August 3, 1927 and passed away peacefully on April 13, 2024. She attended Greensburg High School and Southeastern Louisiana College, and proudly served as the secretary of the First Baptist Church of Greensburg.

Nelda was renowned for her extraordinary kindness, enthusiasm, and beautiful smile. She was an exceptional mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and the very best of friends to many. She will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication to family and friends and the boundless joy and happiness she brought to all that knew her.

She was a lifelong resident of Louisiana and a seasoned traveler who became an unofficial ambassador of the state, singing the praises of all things Louisiana during her travels around the country and abroad. She loved attending meetings as a member of the Daughters of the British Empire,  Strawberry Fields Chapter, and her selfless nature exemplified the organization’s national motto: “not ourselves, but the cause.”

Her absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of all who knew her. Nelda’s legacy is carried on by her loving family: her siblings, Floyd and Barbara, Betty, and Jeanette; her children, Suzi and Brent, Bob and Sarb, Barry and Debby, and David and Fiona; her stepson Alan and Debbie; her grandchildren, Lani and Brad, Lee and Katherine, Steven, Kelly and Will, and Brian and Dani; her step-grandchildren Dana, Heather, Fairis, Brock, Lori, Michael, Erin, Lee, Alane, and Matthew; and her great-grandchildren Bennett, Caleb, and Liam. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Childress Boyd.

Services will be private, but in recognition of Nelda’s love of a good party, her family will host a celebration in her honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Nelda’s family requests donations be made in her name to the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank at brfoodbank.org or First Baptist Church of Greensburg. Be sure to study your lesson or, for adults, Genesis 33.

Plan your meals for the weekend.

Get your clothes ready for tomorrow.

Finish weekly cleaning.

Check on a neighbor or friend.

Blessings

I’m so thankful to learn of ways you are serving others and being a blessing in the lives of others. Today, is a perfect day to help someone clear the limbs from their yards, shop for a homebound neighbor, add a coat of paint to a front door, etc. As you see needs that you are capable ot handling, do so. Both that person and you will receive a blessing. You’ll be surprised at how blessed you are.

“See” you tomorrow.

Prayer Focus Today

Today is a good day to help someone clean up their yard by picking up twigs the wind broke off the trees Wednesday. Most people only need a little work done in their yard. Think of someone who has a need with yard help and either do it or arrange for someone else to clean the yard for them.

What a blessing it is to you when you bless someone else!

Pray about the needs and “Put feet to your prayer”!

Prayer for Churches

Spend some time in prayer for ALL the churches in our area. Some are addressing the needs brought about while others are still praying for growth. Some have wonderful pastors. Some are without pastors or staff members. Some are short of workers. Pray for churches, pastors, membership, baptisms.

Thanks for reading and praying today.

Be an encourager in your own way.

Prayer Focus

Today, let’s focus our prayers on thanking God for no loss of life in LA and on recovery from the big storm that came through here yesterday. It did some damage in our area, but not like the damage other areas had. Pray for people in those areas. Pray for members of Louisiana Baptist DisasterTeamsand teams from other states who will be busy helping people clean up from the storm, rebuilding, and replacing in areas where there was so much damage.

Thank God for Disaster Relief and those who volunteer through it to help with work needed and to minister to those in the area. Thank God for those who contribute to Disaster Relief. Do you remember that Bro. Gibby McMillan was the first leader of this group? Do you remember that Bro. Stan Statham, who was our former missions director in Two Rivers Baptist Association, is the leader of our LA Baptist Disaster Relief now?

Prayer Focus

Pray for those of us in the path of the storms be be both alert and prepared. Today is a good day to be focused on the weather for much os the day.

Closures

Most schools, if not all schools in our area, will be closed today. Many businesses may also close. Schedules may change too. For example, the Pine Ridge Bible study group will postpose today’s lunch until next Wednesday. Please pass the word.

If you have an appointment today, you may contact your provider and reschedule. I know Spring Creek has cancelled church for tonight. Other churches seem to be on their regular Wednesday night schedule. You may have a power outage, so be prepared for that too.

Read the Bible Every Day

  • Deuteronomy 17:61 – 19:13
  • Psalm 44:1-8
  • Proverbs 19:28-30
  • Luke 9:1-22

Today is a good day to check on others to make sure they are prepared for the storm and have what they need to spend the day without power.

Our actions need to be early in the day. You might even want to get someone who lives alone to spend the day with you. Making your home available to others is always a good thing.

Be patient with the linemen if your power does go out. They also need to be careful to protect their lives.

Here’s What Happened

Saturday, in Amite, I met a lady as we were walking in opposite directions. I said something like “Hello.. How are you today?” Her reply was “Blessed”!

I thought she had a great reply. It was honest and from her heart. It made me reconsider my reply when people speak to me. I know I am also “blessed”. This was and can be a simple, but wonderful reply.

Have a blessed day. “See” you tomorrow. If you have a friend, neighbor, or family member who might benefit from reading my posts, feel free to help them locate and bookmark this page.

It’s here again! Today is the Lord’s Day! We have the opportunity to read and study God’s Word, hear a sermon from a pastor, and be a positive influence on others. If you are able, I hope you will strive to do all three of those things.

MRS. MICKEY‘S OBITUARY

During the early morning hours of April 5th, 2024, Mrs. Mickey, as she is known by many, passed through heaven’s portal to begin eternal life with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, being 91 years of age!  Those who knew her well will remember her for the love and generosity she had for others.  She was a teacher by profession, having obtained her degree in elementary education from Southeastern Louisiana University in 1973.  She taught at New Zion Elementary, Spring Creek Elementary, and Sumner Junior High schools where she had a positive influence on so many lives, none more so than her own five children.  Being widowed at a relatively young age, her first priority was the Christian upbringing of her children, as she relied on the grace and guidance of her Lord.  All five children obtained professional degrees; more importantly, all are Bible reading Christians having a solid, active faith.
While her health permitted, Mrs. Mickey enjoyed gardening, always having a big enough garden to share with friends and neighbors.  She also enjoyed reading, assembling jig-saw puzzles, traveling, and engaging in card games and other games with her sisters, grandchildren, and friends.
She is survived by four of her five children: Becky Cade Crow (Danny) of Ellicott City, MD, Dr. James Cade (Melonie) of Hattiesburg, MS, Bobby Cade and Terri Cade Bourgoyne both of Kentwood, LA, one sister Irene Blades of Monroe, LA, 16 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband U.S. Army Staff Sargent Arthur Berton Cade, her father Jimmy Oliver, Sr., mother Pearl Schilling Oliver Mulkey, sisters Katherine Manning, Azalene Partrich, Hazel Smith, and Sarah Golmon, three sibling-cousins Avis Oliver Hope, Tink Oliver, Jr, and Huey Oliver, one daughter Patricia Cade Needham, one daughter-in-law Betty Cade, and one infant grand-daughter Bonnie Cade.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church, Kentwood, on Thursday, April 11, 2024, with a funeral service to follow at 1:00 PM.  The service will be officiated by Reverend Danny Crow.  Pall bearers will be her grandsons.  Burial will be in the Silver Springs Cemetery, Osyka, MS following the service.  McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, LA is in charge of the arrangements.

As a representative of my Sunday School class, I went to Terri’s home to leave a gift bag and to visit for a few minutes. This was eight days before “Miss” Mickey passed away and one day before her 91st birthday. I’m so thankful for the time I had visiting with Terri that day while “Miss” Mickey rested. Thank-you to the New Hope class for investing in homebound people and others. I’m so thankful for you showing God’s love for others.

Mission Opportunities This Month

  1. Giving to the Annie Armstrong offering
  2. Helping cut fabric for OCC gift bags on the 20th at 9:00
  3. Shopping for OCC. Our suggested gifts for April are red pens, sewing tape measures, small cars, solar calculators, and small dolls
  4. Giving money to Wanda Smith or me so someone can place an Amazon order for needed items in quantities not available locally.

You may notice I do not ask for Bibles and other Christian literature so children can learn about Jesus. Samaritan’s Purse adds them when they determine which country the box will go. Each child’s literature is in their language! This in turn impacts both the child and family members. It’s like sending a Sunday School teacher and a pastor in each box to each home!

Prayer Focus

Today, let’s focus our prayers on “Miss” Mickey’s family and the family of Frank Fox. Again, I suggest you watch the video from his service.

Also, please pray for all our friends and family members who are hospitalized.

Until tomorrow. . . .

Anna Lee
