Friday

The server for TPL was being updated this morning.  It is back, so here is today’s post.

“I have told you these things,

so that in me you may have peace.

In this world you will have trouble.

But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

~John 16:33~

Connor Corkern is continuing to improve.  Hopefully, he will be home soon.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher has had some good days, thanks to a new medication.  These good days have make it much easier for all her caregivers.

Mrs. Catherine Yarborough is enjoying being at home again.  Her wonderful spirit is always encouraging.

Pam Drury, interim youth/children’s minister at New Zion, was a passenger in a car yesterday that ran into the median at Wardline Exit because someone who got on I-55 wanted the space where their car was.  Thankfully, everyone was okay.  The did get a scary mud-ride though.

The service for David Wickham was a  wonderful testament to all those present about the real person David was.  I left the service thinking what a wonderful man he was and wishing I had known him better.  Please pray for his wife, his mother, his siblings, and other family members.

Thankfulness: Day 6

Today, I’m thankful for God’s faithfulness.  When I think about the memorial service I attended, the words of my friend “Cissy” as she faces life without her husband, the words of a new friend, Pam, who was in a vehicle “mud-riding” in the I-55 median yesterday, seeing faces at a medical clinic, etc., I know God’s faithfulness can take us through any situation we might be in.  I’m also reminded of the poem, “Footprints”.  I’m so glad we can have God with us in all the various trials of life.  Another thought is that He equips us for His purposes.

Have a fantastic Friday.

    • History -I love to watch the Gaither Homecoming videos, and every now and then I’m pleasantly surprised to see some of the dignitaries of Southern Gospel music there. One person I love to see is Jim Hill, who as of this writing is in his 80s and still has his beautiful tenor voice.

Jim Hill as a young man studied to be a professional singer, even auditioning for the Metropolitan Opera, but thankfully for us and for the Kingdom of God he decided to dedicate his life to gospel music. In the 1940s, he started to both manage and sing tenor with the famed Golden Keys Quartet.

In the early 1950’s, he would write “What a Day That Will Be”.The story goes that his mother-in-law got gravely ill. He was a new Christian at the time, and while he was driving home from work he asked God why this was happening to her. He then said that words just came flooding to his head–when he got home he grabbed a piece of cardboard and started writing the words down. The first person he sang the song to was his mother-in-law.

The song was first presented by the Golden Keys Quartet and went on to be recorded by the Homeland Harmony Quartet. It would go on to become one of the most loved hymns in all of Southern Gospel music. Later in the 1960s, the Golden Keys Quartet would also help establish the songs of another young hymn writer by the name of Bill Gaither.

On October 3, 2012, Jim is scheduled to be inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Dollywood, a tribute that’s certainly much-deserved and long overdue.             On October 3, 2012, Jim is scheduled to be inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame in Dollywood, a tribute that’s certainly much-deserved and long overdue.    http://www.namethathymn.com/christian-hymns/what-a-day-that-will-be-lyrics.html

Tuesday Afternoon

Mr. Philip Harrell’s 92nd birthday is today.  David and I were blessed to visit with him and Mrs. Annie Bell for a few minutes this morning.  He told of the birth of his second great, great grandchild.  Wow!
Mrs. Anne Hurst is looking good and will be released Sunday.  Please keep her in your prayers.  She said the unborn twins are doing well according to their mother Marie and grandmother Nedra.
Mrs. Barbara Hutchinson is doing well.  She is able to walk around a good bit.  Pray for her continued improvement.
Some former residents of Roseland, Steve and Vicky Cunningham Gully, shared the news of the death of a daughter-in-law, Donna Gully, last night.  She has been ill so her death was not a surprise.

Update on Connor Corkern

My dear friends, if everything goes smoothly with Connor tonight (which we expect it will) he will have his ventilator extubated in the morning.

We need your prayers…
•Please pray with Coye and I that this time around Connor’s lungs will be ready and strong.
•Please pray that his secretions will be thin enough for him to cough up.
•Please pray that his body can maintain the energy it requires to breathe easily when awake and sleeping.
•Please pray that God’s grace surrounds us as we watch and wait to see if Connor’s extubation will be successful.
•Please pray that if Connor’s extubation fails that we will be guided in the direction that God leads us to and have peace with whatever may come in order for Connor to breathe easier.
•Please pray for his doctors, nurses, and therapists that have taken exceptional care of him, and will continue to do so.

We know our Heavenly Father hears our prayers as he has shown us His mercy for the past 3 weeks over and over again.

Mrs. Flo Hatcher‘s new medication for nausea has worked for five days!  That has made a big difference for her, the family, and caregivers.

Please continue to pray for Mr. James Miller as he undergoes testing at a Covington hospital.

Mrs. Gloria Boone and her family wish for our continued prayers.

David Wickham – David’s obituary will be posted when it is available.  In the meantime, pray for the family.

We have collected 77% of the goal that we set for out church.  Personally, I never would have been pleased with 77%.  I trust we will meet this goal now that the shoeboxes are filled and shipping collected.  Our church asks a lot, but the mission-minded people in our church have big hearts and a giving/sharing spirit.
