Mrs. Hazel Smith passed away about three this morning at home. She was a special neighbor, church member, class member, inspiration, and friend. I have no doubt she is in heaven. I have heard her share her strong faith on a number of occasions. I will miss her. Arrangements, obviously, have not been made yet, but she will be buried by her husband at Mt. Hermon. I’ll post the arrangements at a later date. I must add that she has four daughters who have so faithfully loved her and taken care of all her wants and needs. She recently had a big Mother’s Day celebration with all the family there. She was loved and knew it!
Saturday
Greater love has no one than this:
to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

The VBS program at Kentwood involved many of the children who had been in attendance all week. It always thrills my heart to be able to teach in Bible school and hopefully plant a “seed” of missions in young hearts. Thanks to the children for coming, the parents, and the workers at VBS. New Zion will have their program at 6:00 Sunday night.
Right off my head, I know that Roseland, Spring Creek, and the Lord’s Church will be having VBS next week. May “seeds”continued to be planted and nurtured.
Wendell Rhodus, youth minister at Oyska and former youth at Kentwood, will be ordained into the ministry at FBC Sunday night at 6 P.M. You are invited to honor Wendell with your presence and your prayers.

and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Patsy, sister of Theople Hurst and Bobbie Magee, will have a lung procedure today. Pray they can get some helpful information.
Last night, David and I were blessed to join many of our neighbors as they honored Bro. Kevin and Jana Smith who have served eight years at Pine Ridge and Tangipahoa. It was wonderful to hear of all the memories and testimonies. Toni Travis Black, vocalists, and musicians at Galilee Baptist Church did an awesome job of leading the service. There was plenty of foot-stomping, clapping, and singing! We were very blessed to have been a part of that special service. God bless Bro. Kevin and Jana in their future church opportunities.

Many local Vacation Bible Schools begin today. I hope you have volunteered your time. If not, it is not too late. Also, make sure your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and neighbors are in attendance this week. May young lives be eternally this week.
Devotional, Scripture, and a Song
- “Broken to be Made New” – http://odb.org/2016/06/06/broken-to-be-made-new/
- I know, Lord, that your laws are righteous, and that in faithfulness you have afflicted me. ~Psalm 119:75~
- “Because He Lives” was the hymn I selected yesterday. This morning, I must use that hymn again. Yesterday, at Pine Ridge, we were blessed to hear the son of Dwayne and Toni Black and grandson of Tommy and Ginger Travis, sing his heart out. He just completed the third grade. May God continue to use this young man for His service.
Happy Monday! Make this day meaningful in His service!

Second try – Still morning!
Pray for fifteen (15) volunteer missionaries from Montpelier Baptist Church who have now arrived in Nicaragua. They have made a collected items since their last trip and involved their entire church in the project. They go once or twice each year. Great work is done while they are there.
Some members of FBC, Greensburg will soon be going to Haiti next month. This is a also a repeat for some of their members. I think I heard the number seven (7), but am sure someone will help me with a correction if that is not accurate. Pray for them as they continue to collect and pact items to give to the people there.
David Bryant has been transferred to Ochsner with surgery possibly on Tuesday. Please pray for David and his family.

Vacation Bible Schools – Many churches will have VBS this week. Others will be held in the coming weeks. Check with your area church(es) to get specific information.
Due to VBS at Kentwood this week, the Ladies’ Bible Study will not meet. The study of John 7 will begin June 17th.
Coming Soon – Ladies’ Night at FBC, Kentwood
This will be a patriotic night! I can tell you we will have an awesome speaker and a precious, God-filler soloist. Plan to to join us June 23rd at 6:15 P.M.
You can also mark your calendar for the Third Monday Morning of July. Ladies of Two Rivers will meet at Spring Creek Baptist Church and hear a report on the current update from Mt. Nebo Baptist Church after their recent flooding problem.
This afternoon the church family of Pine Ridge will honor their pastor and his wife, Bro. Kevin and Jana Smith, with a farewell reception. They have been a blessing to this area and will be greatly missed as they move and begin a new church assignment. Pray for the church to continue to minister in the Sixth Ward.
Stay dry!
