“A Game-changing Attitude”

Dr. Waylon Bailey

http://waylonbailey.com/2017/08/29/a-game-changing-attitude/

“And for this I rejoice.

And I shall rejoice.”

~Philippians 1:18b~

Hurricane Harvey is still a big prayer concern.  As we have watched the new, we see places we where a week and a half ago as we returned from Baylor.  This is hard to imagine and surely extremely difficult to live through.  Let’s keep praying for the areas of Texas where Harvey has invaded.  Today, we can add areas of Louisiana to the list. There are numerous ways to help the people.  I’ve been updating my Facebook page with helpful information so you can participate in helping those affected by this storm.  Over and over. I hear requests for prayer.

Some, if not all, of the area schools are closing for the day because the storm is moving more to the east as it enters Louisiana.  Check the website of specific schools if you need more information.

Even though it has been raining here for some time, the newest forecast shows the arrival of the rain and wind in our area to be around 8 A. M. today.

May God calm the fears and concerns about the storm.

KK Huckaby shared this post about Josiah yesterday.

Day 175: Wow…did I really just put 175??? Crazy! Josiah is doing well. He’s kind of plateaued the last couple of weeks with his oxygen requirements so they are going to increase his dosage of steroids to see if this will help wean him off of the oxygen because he’s still on the bubble CPAP. We are still waiting to hear what the plan is for his right kidney. There has been some back & forth about whether he can handle a major surgery without it causing more harm than good. So the alternative to reconstruction for the obstruction is to put in a nephrostomy tube/catheter to bypass the obstruction & save the function of his kidney. Hopefully we will have a plan in place tomorrow. As far as his “milestones”, he started laughing 2 weeks ago and it is the sweetest thing. He has no sound to his laugh but his face is so expressive! He started taking his pacifier some this week. He’s been working hard on holding items in his hands and on holding his head up. He doesn’t like to sleep when he knows there is stuff going…he’s just so social & doesn’t want to miss a thing! 💙💙💙

Pray for Koltyn Gafford and his mom as they travel to New Orleans today for a check-up.

What You Should Do in Times of Trouble

http://waylonbailey.com/2017/08/28/what-you-should-do-in-times-of-trouble/

This article was posted by Rev. Waylon Bailey of FBC, Covington.  I think it is a good guide as to how we should be thinking, praying, and acting.  Let’s not just sit in front of our televisions and talk about how terrible Hurricane Harvey has been!

I recommend you work and give through Southern Baptist Disaster Relief.  They have a proven reputation and have been recommended by numerous church and political leaders.  We just heard former Texas governor, Rick Perry, brag on their work in the past and suggest we give and work through this relief program and Samaritan’s Purse (Rev. Franklin Graham).

David and I returned late last night from taking our daughter and grandson to the airport in Atlanta.  We received a message they are safely home, but haven’t talked with them.  They are surely sleeping now.

Please continue to pray for David’s brother, Jimmy, who is having additional tests done this morning to determine if/where his cancer has spread.

Read the Bible – I need to add the reading for the weekend as well as today.

  • Saturday – Matthew 7-8, & Psalm 84
  • Sunday – Matthew 9-10 & Psalm 85
  • Monday – Matthew 11-12 & Psalm 86

As Christians, let’s respond to the many needs related to Hurricane Harvey.

Anna Lee

Sunday

“My Father is glorified and honored by this,

when you bear much fruit.”

~John 15:8a AMP~

Once again, the news story of   the day is Hurricane Harvey.  Friends report rivers in their streets, seemingly endless rain, tornado warnings, wind damage, but no loss of life, even though the news reports say three deaths.  I was just reminded this is all at the end of a week that started with an eclipse.  Last Sunday night, the children’s Bible Drill class focused on he story of the Creation from Genesis.  In reality, the story of any and all days should be Jesus!  This day, Jesus is working in hearts of people around the world.  Let’s pray they say, “Yes” to the most important choice they will ever make.

Pray for the up-coming revival at FBC, Kentwood.

The weather has surely caused some extra praying the last few days.  Let’s keep up the prayers even when the present weather calms down.

Saturday Addition

And they were calling to one another:

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;

the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Isaiah 6:3

So far, it is too early to get good results of what has happened because of Hurricane Harvey.  Stay turned thought.  The projections indicate the rain and floods will move into Louisiana after a day or so.

Thank God for weather information available to people in advance and people who have learned how to properly respond.

Be praying as disaster relief workers are traveling to Texas now.  Pray they can assist the people with home and their spiritual condition at the same time.  Be available to help if you are trained.

Money is always helpful.  Be sure to contribute to organizations who will use the money as you would have it be used.

Pray for those trapped in homes with water rising around them and/or a lack of needed supplies.  No matter how much and long the warning were issued, some people think they know more than the forecasters.  Despite that, pray for them in the situation they find themselves now.

Don’t forget to bring items for the LA Baptist Childrens Home Fall Food Roundup and for Operation Christmas Child to FBC, Kentwood tomorrow morning.  You can look back on TPL for a list of needed items.

The Bible Drill Class for elementary age students WILL meet Sunday evening as usual even though Prayer Meeting for the upcoming revival are being held at the church and elsewhere.  Check with the list in the front hallway for more information.

Thanks for praying this morning.

Saturday

I know most of us have family and friends in Texas as Hurricane Harvey is making its arrival there.  No matter where we have family and friends there or do not know anyone in that area of the state, let’s pry for them as they face a category four storm during the night hours, which always makes it worse.  Pray people will have made wise decisions and are as safe as possible.  We’ll need to focus our prayers on Texas and Louisiana as much rain will fall and many areas will flood.  Disaster relief plans are being made.  Volunteers and supplies are ready to move in when it is safe and needs are determined.  You can participate and/or can donate to Southern Baptist Disaster Relief or other reputable groups.

Friday

Glory in his holy name;
let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice.
  • Pray for our daughter and grandson as they prepare to fly home Sunday.
  • We were blessed to get to visit with the Dillons on their 70th anniversary.  They have been a blessing to us.
  • There are several people preparing for surgery in the next few weeks.  Please pray for them.

Please pray for Phillip Strickland.  He has had better weeks.  Please pray for his family as you pray for him.

Tedd and Kayla Titus’ baby will need some surgeries.  Please pray for doctors as they make timing decisions and for the family as they have to visit the baby at the hospital and not have him at home.

Yesterday, Mrs. Ruby Dillon had her best day since the hospital stays.  Thank God for good progress for her.  Please continue to pray for Mr. “Cete”.

Hurricane Harvey seems to be headed for Texas.  Pray for those in its path.  In our area, it now seems like we will have much rain.

The Friday morning Bible study group will not meet this week, but will meet next Friday.

Prayer meeting for the upcoming revival will begin Sunday evening.  Contact the church office for dates, locations, and times.  The children will still meet at the church for their Bible Drill class.

The value of this day will best be measured by what you do for others, not what others do for you!

In the same way, faith by itself,

if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

~James 2:17~

Betty Simpson is having a problem with bursitis in her left shoulder.  Let’s pray she gets to feeling better real soon.

Jeffrey Brister‘s surgery for complete shoulder replacement went well.  Now, the time for recovery and therapy will begin.  Pray he gets full use of his shoulder and arm.

Bobby Forbes is home and feeling so much better.  Thank you for your prayers.  Keep praying for the lab reports that are due later this week.

I’ve been watching some weather maps showing a renewed Gulf storm named Harvey.  It looks like we are in for lots of rain.  Let’s pray He blows himself out before reaching us.

Operation Christmas Child

David and I shopped yesterday and made many good purchases.  I’m so anxious to open all the bags and look at the items all at the same time.  We found calculators for $.94 at Walmart in McComb (and bought them all), colored pens, jump ropes, small cars, plastic animals, soap, etc.  We experienced excitement and joy as we thought about the children who will receive the shoe boxes in a few months.

Items we didn’t purchase yesterday, but still need – small flashlights and extra batteries, washcloths, and bandanas.

The SON shines every day!
