Wednesday

We remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

~1 Thessalonians 1:3~

What a day with lots of memories yesterday (9/11) was.  May today be a day of preparation for people in the path of Hurricane Florence.  May families make wise decisions regarding the storm.  I clearly remember how life stopped it’s regular routine after Hurricane Katrina.

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

~Colossians 3:23~

The annual Georgia Barnett Offering is the focus of missions in our churches each September.  I did not know about this page or these clips, but happened upon it this morning.  Three of them were made at FBC, Kentwood.  One was remotely made to include someone who spent their teen years at FBC, Kentwood.  Many of you will know several of these people who recognize the importance of missions in Louisiana.

Let’s “THINK BIG”, Louisiana.  The difference is eternity!

Today, I encourage you to  spend some time learning about “Think Big” and the importance of missions in our church/churches.

Georgia Barnett Offering for Louisiana Missions

Behind the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering

Following God’s plan for her life led Georgia Barnette to New Orleans, Louisiana. It was October of 1901 when she arrived at First Baptist Church in New Orleans to do missionary work. She immediately fell in love with the city, its history, its diversity and its needs. Her work as “church visitor” soon included some work with the women as well.

Contact with the recently organized Woman’s Missionary Union of Louisiana opened her eyes to the needs for Christ and for mission endeavors throughout the state. She was elected to be the first full-time, paid executive director/treasurer of WMU in Louisiana. In this role she engaged women in churches with God’s mission that people might come to know the Savior.

Telling the stories of God at work from south Louisiana to north, from east to west, was important to Miss Georgia. Hundreds of hand-written letters to churches and women’s groups effectively led Louisiana Baptists to pray fervently for state missions. She challenged them to give to state missions. She encouraged their personal involvement. The spirit of giving that she inspired planted a ground work for the Week of Prayer for State Missions and what is now the Georgia Barnette State Missions Offering. Her example is a model for prayer and giving today.

Margie Wilkinson Cutrer‘s heart problem turned out to be stress.  Lord, help people to not be so stressed.  What a difference that would make in this world.  How I wish everyone knew you and could give their problems over to you.

Gordon – Thankfully, the storm named Gordon went north of us and caused no trouble here.  Pray for those who had some damage in the storm.  Pray for those who are without electricity.
