whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine,

you did for me.’

Gayle Dees Owens – Chesbrough

Probably a lot of you already know that mom, Gayle Owens had a heart attack at Mike’s Catfish Saturday evening during her reunion. Sent to Hammond, transferred to Covington, her cardiologist and team waiting as we arrived. Said the “Widow Maker” artery was 100% blocked. Put in a stint in about 30 minutes. Lots of fluid on lungs Sunday, removed with bipap machine and lasis. Went home Monday. Shortness of breath Tuesday and worse on Wednesday. Was told to go to ER. Lots of fluid again with coughing. She was actually in breathing distress when I got here. Got the machine on her again with lasis and starting getting the fluid out of her lungs again. Was also running a fever so she was admitted to ICU. Breathing better, still has some fluid, receiving lasis every 12 hours. Still has the cough and shortness of breath. Said SOB is probably due to heart damage. Fluid buildup was probably caused by one of the new meds. Should go home tomorrow. Just wanted to share. All prayers appreciated. Thanks…  Johnny

Daryl Bridges – Kentwood

Just wanted to thank my brother in law Randal for taking Daryl for his doctors appointments Thursday and Wednesday so that I could work! The appointment on Tuesday was with Dr Dudoussat his neuro surgeon! He said that Daryl was doin good! And still doesn’t require surgery! God is so good! Wednesday’s appointment was with the Shock Trauma center and the said basically the same thing! He still has 12 weeks of recovery and then we will see about getting his appendix removed and checked out! Thank you all for the prayers and love shown to us during this time! We appreciate everything so very much! Please continue to pray for us, as we are still standing in the need of your prayers! Thank you thank you thank you! We serve an awesome God! Linda

Mike Moore – West Monroe

Thankful that Mike got good results! The spot has not grown, so they consider it to be benign. We go back in 6 months, and if it has stayed the same, we will go back to yearly visits. Thank you for the prayers!  Robin

Marie G. Irwin

October 27, 1931 – December 01, 2018

resident of Amite, Marie Irwin (Genevieve Marie Guillory Irwin) known as “Blackie” to all of her friends and relatives from Eunice, LA passed to the Spiritual realm on Saturday December 1, 2018 at Summerfield Senior Living of Hammond. She was born October 27, 1931 in Eunice and was 87 years of age. She was a longtime resident of Amite, LA where she co-published two weekly newspapers, The Tangi Talk and Kentwood News for over 36 years. Her passing was swift as she went to be with her beloved husband, Bill. Although he preceded her in death twenty years ago, they were never apart. She talked of him daily with joyful memories. She and Bill bought the newspapers in 1960 when they moved to Amite and were quickly absorbed into the local communities. They loved their adventurous journeys traveling during Bill’s Navy days, but they set their anchor on a 40- acre patch of land on Chicken Farm Road and raised their family. They were active members of St. Helena Catholic Church and the Florida Parish Skeet and Gun Club. Marie loved to socialize and was also a member of the Amite Stem and Garden Club. She was an avid reader. After her vision weakened, she became a voracious audio book fan. The Louisiana State Library Books for the Blind became her magic carpet. She escaped the confines of her hospital bed and listened to tales of mystery, but was especially fond of history and politics. Despite her infirmities, she never lost her zest for life. She was devoted to her family and children. She is survived by her children, Michael William Irwin and Susan Lagsdin, Robert Grey Irwin and Jacqueline Shockley, Lynne Marie Vance and Charley Vance, Scott Patrick Irwin and Peggy Irwin, and Mary Elizabeth Chapman and Bryan Chapman; 10 grandchildren, Will Vance, Ben Vance and Brittany, Christopher Irwin, Billy Chapman and Liza, Sam Chapman, Rebecca Chapman, Laura Beth Chapman, Anna Chapman, Amelia Vetter and Michael, and Jeff Irwin; 3 great grandchildren, Hayes Vance, Henry Vance, and Emaleigh Irwin; brothers and sisters, Lucille Orzeske, Maggie Guidroz, Al Guillory and Jeanell, and Amy Robideaux; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, William K. “Bill” Irwin; father, Alcius Louis Guillory; mother, Isabelle Dardeau Guillory; three brothers, Raymond Guillory, Francis Guillory and Herbert Guillory. The family wishes to extend gratitude to all who have cared for her over the past few years. Visitation at St. Helena Catholic Church Hall on Thursday, December 13, 2018, from 9:30 AM until 11:30 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at noon at St. Helena Catholic Church. Services conducted by Fr. Mark Beard. Interment Amite Memorial Gardens, Amite. She was a substitute teacher at Jewel Sumner High School for several years and was a wonderful role model for all the staff and students she encountered. Gloria Gill asks for prayer for her husband. Pete Gill, who is hospitalized at North Oaks with pneumonia and COPD.

Carolyn Mcgraw asks for pray for her husband, Jimmy Mcgraw.  He is at MD Anderson.

Update on Jimmy
Jimmy saw Dr. Saux (oncologist) today. He gave us more hope than the hospital doctors did. He said tumor had not grown a lot. He seems to think chemo is working. He is going to continue with chemo. He won’t do chemo this week. I think he will start back next week. He wants to give him time to recover from his hospital stay. The growth probably occurred during the 5 weeks he was off chemo.
We were relieved that he didn’t tell us there was nothing left to do for him.
He has had a much better day today.
The bowel obstruction that put him in the hospital seems to have cleared up.

Thanks for all the prayers. We know this is in God’s hands and prayers are powerful.

Pray for Mike Moore of West Monroe who is going to Memphis today to check on the tumor in his liver.

Update from the Sylvester Humphrey:

Endosonographic finding today for Sylvester. Today’s exam consistent with invasive cancer. It is a stage T1b tumor in the upper 1/3 of the esophagus. Preferred curative treatment is surgical resection. If Sylvester is averse to this, which he is, could consider referral to Ochsner NO for evaluation of endoscopic resection/treatment with photodynamic therapy vs Radio frequency therapy. The ENT just called and she will be getting in touch with someone at Ochsner NO in the next day or so. Thank you all for your prayers. We love all of you. Trusting God to do what is best and give us and the doctors discernment.

(You may know Sylvester from the Amite post office or the Hope Center in Roseland.

Tuesday Additions

Prayers needed:

  1. Dennis Miller possibly had a stroke last night.  Firma Kay asked for prayers saying she did not know details about Dennie.
  2. Melissa and Eric Lee are at MD Anderson for labs and scans.  Please pray for Eric to get good reports.
  3. Bryan and Rita Tate will not be able to go to MD Anderson until Tuesday of next week.  I think the delay is because of his blood work based on what she told me Sunday.

Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.”

Josiah Huckaby

Josiah had his heart cath today. He did great but we were a bit surprised with the results especially since we weren’t seeing symtpoms of anything. The short & simple explanation is: they weren’t able to balloon or stent anything because of several issues they found. We will have to come back in a few weeks to try to stent 2 pulm veins…one of those is completely closed. We will also be looking at adding a new med to try to slow down the progression of his pulm vein disease. It is not a commonly used med here but Texas children’s hospital has been using it with some pretty good results. Our interventional radiologist that did the cath recently moved here from Texas & we’ve heard a lot of good things about him & the hospital he came from. They seem to “specialize” in pulmonary hypertension, so we feel confident in his abilities to help us navigate through the next steps of treatment for Josiah. We know that God’s plan for Josiah is far better than anything we could remotely come up with. We will continue to praise Him & His faithfulness.

I am always amazed at how God created us/our bodies & with every bit of new information about Josiah, we learn just how amazing we are as His creations. And just how much care & detail He knitted us together with. The doctor showed us pics of the issues & showed us how his body has compensated so that it could continue to function as close to “normal” as possible. It just blows my mind!

To God be the glory, great things He has done!!!

Susie Sharkey

Susie Sharkey has pneumonia.  Pray she will have a complete recovery in God’s timing.

Saturday

[The Word Became Flesh]

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

He was with God in the beginning.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.

We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

~John 1:1-2, 14 (NIV)~

Today, I want to share Dr. Waylon Bailey’s post entitled “I Love God’s Promises”.  He is the senior pastor of FBC, Covington and has been there since 1989.

http://waylonbailey.com/2018/11/29/i-love-gods-promises/

To get ourselves prepared for Christmas, many people start on December 1st and read one chapter of Luke each day.  Today’s reading is Luke 1.  (If you have been reading the suggested passages I post each day, you will already have done this and will be on Luke 24 today.

Read the Bible

  • Hosea 7-8
  • Psalms 137
  • Luke 24

The Lottie Moon Tea is tomorrow afternoon at 2 P.M. at East Fork Baptist Church.  The tea is for all ladies from three to one hundred three.  There is no charge, but you can participate in missions by bringing some stamped Christmas cards.  The cards will be delivered to the parish jails in Amite and Greensburg.  I remember seeing one of those cards that was written to grandparents one year.  I know they felt such a blessing as they treasured that card.  I wish I had known who provided that card so I could have let the family express their appreciation.  You never know who will get the cards you send and who will be reading the card later, but know this.  The cards are important in touching lives.  Your card can make a big difference in a family.  While you are at the tea, you will be blessed to hear some of our area children share Christmas songs.  Let’s teach our little ones there is much more to Christmas than a jolly man in a red suit.

The senior adults of FBC, Kentwood will be honored with a holiday meal Wednesday at 11 A.M. in the fellowship hall.

Bryan and Rita Tate are waiting for his platelets to increase so he can go to MD Anderson for the next treatment.  Then, they hope to be home for Christmas.  Keep the in your prayers.

Josiah Huckaby

Quick update on little man:

Since Josiah never got a swallow study in the hospital, our speech therapist didn’t feel comfortable trying baby food as an outpatient. So today he had his 1st swallow study…and even though he was mad & crying the entire time (because he decided not to take a nap today & he was being restrained) he did great!!! He now gets to start working in eating baby food & chewing on hard munchables (like carrot sticks & puffs). With no limitations on the amount of baby food he eats…they said to “just feed that boy”. 😁

Also, he has a heart cath scheduled for Monday (12/3) to check his right upper pulmonary vein that was balloned in October 2017. His pulmonary hypertension hasn’t improved since it slightly increased while he was sick with a UTI in August. So there is some concern that that pulmonary vein may be starting to narrow again causing the increase in his pulmonary hypertension. They can’t get a good look at it on his echos so they want to be certain that nothing is being missed.

This boy is growing so much & his little personality continues to blossom. He keeps us on our toes with all his shenanigans! He has come so far in the last 5 months. To God be the glory!!! 💙💛💙

David

The colon test did not show a problem, so possibly all David’s issues relate to his MDS.  David  got a unit of blood yesterday and will have a TTE and heart conversion today.  Keep praying and give God the glory for all the medical knowledge and procedures available to those with a need.  David’s procedures this week have been at Ochsner in Covington  and Baton Rouge (two days)  and Lakeview in Covington today.  We’re thankful to be able to get around to those with more training and knowledge than we have,

Read the Bible

  • Hosea 5-6
  • Proverbs 19
  • Luke 23

The Lottie Moon Tea is Sunday at two at East Fork.  Please bring stamped Chrsitmas cards so we can deliver them to the parish jail.

I trust you will see God working in your life today.
