Bro. Tom Higginbotham is home from the hospital.  It’s early, but his doctors decided the chance of catching the virus in the hospital was great, so they let him go home.  Pray for Bro. Tom and Patti.

 

 

 

Linda Birch Williams has been concerned about her son having the Covid-19 virus, but now her attention has changed to her husband, Jimmy.  He fell and couldn’t get up.  The hospice nurse told her to call 911.  Long story short, the ambulance took him to St. Tammany Hospital where he was checked out for a broken hip.  Thankfully, it wasn’t broken, so she got to bring him home last night.  Pray for Jimmy as he recovers from the fall and Linda as she takes care of him.  Please pray for Jimmy and Linda Williams.

 

 

 

As the height of the Covid-19 crisis seems to be coming near or passing, please don’t slack up on staying at home and being careful to wash your hands frequently.

Joe Canale, father of one of my former students and husband to a lady I knew from high school, is a nursing home resident in Hammond.  He now has the Caronavirus.  Please pray for him and for his family.

 

 

 

Mrs. Joyce Herrington, a nursing home resident in New Orleans, has greatly improved from the Caronavirus.  She has been moved to a location where she can receive therapy to continue her improvement.  Please pray for this sweet lady.

 

 

 

Ruby King, a resident of Roseland, spent some time in the hospital the last few days.  When it was determined she did not have the virus, she was able to go home.  Pray for her to regain her strength.

 

 

 

Phillip Daryl Hanks

January 17, 1951 – April 08, 2020

A resident of Greensburg, LA, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his home. He was born January 17, 1951 in Greensburg, LA and was 69 years of age. He was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church and former owner of Hank’s Garage. He is survived by wife, Teri Bridges Hanks; 1 daughter, Haley Hanks Conleay and husband, Joshua; 3 grandchildren, Wyatt, Jocelyn and Jarrett Conleay; 1 sister, Vera Ellen (Minnie) Easley and husband, David; 3 brothers, Jack Hanks and wife, Fancy, Larry Hanks and Kenneth (Gus) Hanks and wife, Kay. Preceded in death by his parents, Phillip Ancil Hanks and Colleen DeLee Hanks. Due to Coronavirus Pandemic, graveside services will be private. FBC, Kentwood will be observing the Lord’s Supper Sunday.  You can contact the church to make arrangements to pick up or have a packet with a cracker and juice delivered to you or do as we plan to do and use foods from home.

 

 

 

Keep being patient about staying home.  This season will not last forever, but has been very helpful in slowing the spread of the virus.

Smiley Conerly has been home from the hospital for three weeks!  He has an appointment for a checkup Thursday in Hattisburg.  He is taking a different medicine for fluid which seems to be helping.  Keep Smiley and Carol Jean in your prayers.

 

 

 

Covid – 19

Please continue to pray for everyone you know.  Everyone has had their life totally changed in the last couple of months.  It has been harder of some than other, but everyone has been impacted.  Pray this time of quarantine, disease, and uncertainty ends soon.

On April 6, 2020, Gary Micajah Hendry, Jr. “TIGER” left this earth for his eternal home and is resting in the arms of His Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ.
Tiger had broken some ribs during a fall and avoided going to the hospital because of the “BEAST”co-vid19. He had a massive heart attack from a blood clot and passed away on the way to OLOL Livingston Emergency Room.
How do we know for sure Tiger is in heaven? He nailed his sins to the cross, he thanked Jesus for dying for his sins and asked him for forgiveness. He said, “Jesus, I believe you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God, raised from death to life by the power of God the Father and I ask you to be my Savior and Lord and come to live in me and bless me with the precious gift of eternal life.”
Tiger had such a gigantic heart! He always looked for the good in everyone and was a friend to all. He loved the Lord, his family, friends, and the men he called “BROTHERS” in the US Marines. He graduated from Amite High in 1987 and made all-district and honorable mention all-state in football while being coached by his hero, his dad. After the marines he attended Delgado University and was a sous-chef at Brennan’s and other restaurants in New Orleans.
He is now dancing before the throne of God with his younger brother, Michael W. Hendry, who preceded him in death on March 11,2011; also preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Willie Murl Welch and Robert Benton Stegall, Sr.; fraternal grandparents, Maybelle Davis Hendry and Louis B. Micajah Hendry; his beloved aunts, Jerrye Kaye Rawls, Ginny Chehardy Stegall; uncles, Merlin Beau Hendry, Bennet M. Hendry, and Robert B. Stegall, Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Charla Covington Hendry, “his blue rose”, his precious step-daughter Carleigh Sean, residing in Walker, LA; mother, Linda Stegall Hendry; father, Gary Micajah Hendry, Sr. residing in Amite, LA; sister-in-law, Laurie Ann Wood Hendry and nephew, Corbin Micajah Hendry residing in N. Fort Myers, FL; and many great aunts & uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with interment at Arcola-Roseland Cemetery. Because the thought of suffering children broke Tiger’s tender heart, please consider making a donation to St. Jude in his name.

I want to start with a happy thought.  Josiah Huckaby decided it was time to pull himself up to a standing position and did just that!  What a blessing he is to so many people!  What special parents he has who chose him over all the babies that needed a home!

If you can spare it, needed items include: antibacterial hand soap, hand sanitizer and/or Clorox- or Lysol-brand disinfecting wipes. Supply donations will be accepted by appointment. To schedule a drop-off time, please send us a Facebook message.

We are truly uplifted and humbled by the many offers of help we are receiving as we continue to care for our community.

 

 

Social distancing is not always our chosen thing to do, but it is working to help prevent the spread of the Coronavirus.  Staying at home is even more difficult for many.  Do these two things for a while.  We will all reap the results.

While I waited in the car for David I read a number of chapters from Matthew where I had a marker in my Bible.  I didn’t plan this, but the chapters included the events that happened in the life of Jesus between Palm Sunday and Easter!  God had a plan for my Bible readings!  Today, I will pick up where I was reading when David came out to the car.

 

 

 

Yesterday, to brighten the day and my spirits, I played a CD as we traveled to and from Ochsner.  It was a gift from Bill and Velta Morris a couple years ago.  The CD contained twenty hymn sung by the Morristown church and choir at a special “Hymn Singing”.  My hands and fingers did a lot of tapping!  David and I both smiled all the way to Baton Rouge and back!  I wish you could have been along for the music and the messages.

Monday Addition

Buddy Morris was admitted to North Oaks last night.  He had surgery today and will probably be 24 hours before he can come home.  Pray for Buddy.  Please also pray for Eleanor who cannot be with him.  As you pray for hospital patients, be sure to pray for their family.  It is very hard to leave your loved one and wait for a phone call.

 

 

 

David went in at Ochsner by himself today to get bloodwork, test results, and a Procrit shot.  We are back at home.  He got the shot because his blood level had dropped to 9.4 today.

 

 

 

 

Monday

“We often suffer, but we are never crushed.

Even when we don’t know what to do, we never give up.

In times of trouble, God is with us, and when we are knocked down, we get up again . . . because we know that God raised the Lord Jesus back to life.

And just as God raised Jesus, he will also raise us to life.

Bro. Tom Higginbotham had three by-passes yesterday and is doing well now.  Thank-you for your continued prayers for him.

When I think of Bro. Tom, I think of missions.  He was a big promoter of everything to do with missions.  During the time he was the interim pastor at FBC, Kentwood, he guided the people in supporting missions in a bigger.

It’s time for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American missions.  With all that is happening in our world now, I cannot think of a better time to support missions.

There is a 1.5% death rate with the Covid – 19 virus.  There is also a 98.5% recovery rate.  Let’s be thankful for the 98.5% and continue to strive to increase that number.

 

 

 

Yesterday’s church services from FBC, Kentwood were both very good.  If you missed them, you can find them on Facebook, Kentwood Baptist Church or on You-tube.  I have been amazed at all the online church services.  You can watch a couple a day for a week and many to choose from.  I think that is great!

Palm Sunday

Today, is Palm Sunday.  Even though our churches are closed today, you’ll have lots of opportunities to worship via television, computer, and phone.  Be sure to make that a part of your service.

Please pray for Dr. Tom Higginbothan.  This is a message I received last night from Janie Wise, the state director for WMU.

Good evening, ladies,

As you pray this evening and in the morning, please pray for Dr. Tom Higginbotham, pastor in Eastern Louisiana Association and for Patti (associational WMU director) and their family.  Bro. Tom had a heart attack this afternoon and will have by-pass surgery tomorrow morning, beginning between 6:00-8:00 am, in Baton Rouge.  It is a lengthy surgery.  The surgeon feels good about the surgery, but, of course, could not go further than that.  Because of COVID-19, Patti had to leave him at ER and sat in the parking lot through the heart cath, having conversations by phone with the doctors afterwards. She is planning to participate in worship, on line, with their church, then return to the parking lot tomorrow afternoon. It will help to keep her mind occupied when she can do so little else.  Dr. Richard Blue, associational missions strategist, is keeping me informed.

Patti and I prayed together on the phone; so as you pray, pray for Patti to trust God in this (she has a strength of faith that has always amazed me). Pray for healing and return to health.  Pray for their daughters and their families.  Pray for the church family at Don Avenue Baptist.  And pray for the doctor; Patti has already assured him that this family has deep trust in God and has already begun praying that God would lead his hands.

Today, I want to look on the positive side of the Coronavirus.

  • Lucus, Debra Sitman’s grandson, got “negative” on his test.  Additional testing is continuing.
  • Ryan “Rufus” Williams is leaving North Oaks and going to rehab today
  • David and I are both able to hold our breath for ten seconds this morning.
  • We had three good meals here at home yesterday.
  • His medicine that needs to be approved every three months was approved and picked up.
  • We are removing plants from the greenhouse.
  • Garden bulb plants I have planted the last few years have made for a colorful yard.
  • David is much better!  Every day is a gift!
  • Our oldest grandson was flown to his next base to begin training.
  • We talked with him for 25 minutes after his graduation Thursday.
  • Our other grandchildren are able to complete schoolwork from home.
  • Boyd, Jennie, and Becki can continue their work from home.
  • A lady who works with Jason and who had the virus is better.
  • Jason is very careful at his office and when he gets home.
  • The weather has been beautiful!
  • We can still get news about the virus any time of the day.
  • Our vehicles have gas and are ready to roll.
  • Our phone enables us to connect with friends and family.
  • I have supplies to do OCC work for “shoeboxes” when I choose.
  • Samaritan’s Purse and other organizations are out on the battlefront.
  • Nurse and doctors voluntarily face the disease every shift.
  • Help is available if we need it.
  • The pantry and freezers are full.
  • Traffic is almost nonexistent.
  • Church services are available from numerous churches online.
  • We are thankful to be Americans.
  • God is still on His throne and looking out for all of us.
