David and I have been officially quarantined by our daughter for five weeks.  No one, but the home health nurse, has been in our house during that time.  There have been a few people here who stayed at a distance outside.  I feel like we will self-quarantine for a while when the rules loosen us.  So far, so good!  Thank-you, God!

 

 

 

Gladys Lee Bennett Burton

August 26, 1931 – April 13, 2020

Gladys Lee Bennett Burton a resident of Summit, MS, passed away on Monday, April 13, 2020.She was born August 26, 1931 in Amite, LA and was 88 years of age. She was an employee of B.C. Roger’s as a QC Supervisor in McComb, Ms. and later on retired and started sitting with elderly. She loved family get togethers and loved cooking for all. She enjoyed playing with her grand children and great- grandchildren. Special thanks to St, Luke Home Health and Hospice and a very special thanks to Shalanda Smith her sitter of McComb, MS. Who was always just a phone call away. She is survived by two daughters, JoAnn Daily of Greensburg, LA and Vickie Stogner of McComb, MS; 3 grandchildren, Tanya McDavid(Adam) of Hutto, Tx, Lindsey Aguila(Juan) of Huntsville, AL and Tommy Ballard of Amite, LA; 6 great- grandchildren, Savannah Ballard, Chase Ballard, Jonah and Jacob McDavid and Conner and Cameron Aguila. Preceded in death by one son, Dennis Eugene McAlister; mother, Emma Bennett; father, Edmore Bennett; husband, John Burton; sisters, Lula Smith ,Clara Granger, Nellie Goldmon, Emily Miller, Vergie Brasse and Lena Westmoreland; brother, Homer Bennett. Tuesday Addition

Buddy Morris is not going to be coming home today.  The doctors have decided to do some other things first.  Pray for Buddy, Eleanor, and Ellen.  In the midst of this pandemic, a hospital stay is more difficult for everyone than it usually is!

Buddy Morris is back in North Oaks.  We was admitted yesterday afternoon.  Please pray for Buddy and Eleanor.  Also, please pray for the staff who are working with Buddy.

 

 

 

No matter how many Easter services you watched, there’s always a few more online and waiting for you.  Many of us enjoy seeing the services from former pastors or churches where our family member attend.  We even watch Franklin Graham speaking from city park in NYC.  They are there for us today or any other day.  They bless my heart.

 

 

 

Pray for the many who had wind or tornado damage.  Also 12 lives were lost,  Pray for the families.  Pray also for those who will face the storm as it continues to move across our country.

 

 

 

Please continue to pray for the many who are sick in our area.  Some are in the hospital, but many are at home.

 

 

 

Thank God for watching over us each day.  I love to read stories of lives that are saved and God receiving the credit.

 

 

I know many people who always talked about having time to stay at home.  Now that most of us are quarantined, that doesn’t seem the same.  Be careful what you ask for.

Most of our area churches are now broadcasting services one way or the other now.  Many will be observing the Lord’s Supper today.  Take this opportunity to watch/participate in several services.  Happy Easter!

 

 

If you have heard too much about the pandemic, follow the rules for staying home, practice safe distancing, and wash your hands frequently.  You might also want to remember this fact:  98.5 % of the people who get the virus survive.   There is no need to panic!

 

 

The weather may be an issue for most of the day today.  If you do not have power or internet service when you want to watch a service, it will probably be available later.  We are possibly going to get heavy wind and heavy thunderstorms.  Stay home and be safe from the weather too today.

 

 

 

Focus on Jesus today.  We all know we have worship opportunities.  We can read our Bibles and pray at any time.

Secondly, focus on others today. What can you do from your home to check on someone in their home?

 

 

 

Even though today may have some challenges, repeat after me:  GOD IS STILL IN CONTROL!  Believe it!

James “Matt” Travis

December 26, 1979 – April 10, 2020

A resident of Kentwood, passed away on Friday, April 10, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. He was born December 26, 1979 in Franklinton and was 40 years of age. He was a God fearing man who worked hard every single day with multiple jobs. Driving long hauls, driving a school bus, working in the dairy barn, hay fields, planting and hauling soy beans, getting home at 12-1 am and back at it again at 4. He also served on the board of the Kentwood Co-op and the Dairy Industry Promotion Board. He was not afraid of work but he was afraid of snakes. He loved with his whole heart, his girls, his parents, family, aunts, cousins and his sweet Mary. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Jaime and Alyssa Travis; parents, James and Violet Travis; sister, Amanda Grantham and husband, Tim; niece and nephew, Faith and Jacob Grantham; girlfriend, Mary Bel and her children, Bailey Onellion and husband, Jeremy, and John Caleb Bel and fiance, Laurel; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Clayton and Mavis Travis; and maternal grandparents, Mason and Joy Miley. Services will be held privately. Joe Canale is improving!  Thank God for his improvement.  Pray the he, and many others, will soon be testing negative.

 

 

 

Freida Jones has been very sick for a while. She has had a number of doctors, but none of them have the correct diagnosis yet.  Pray for answers so proper treatment can begin.  You may remember her from FBC, K or Spring Creek Elem.

Michael “Mike” Miller

February 15, 1946 – April 7, 2020

Was born on February 15, 1946 and went to his Heavenly home on April 7, 2020. As always, his devoted wife of 55 years, Brenda Miller was right beside him as he entered the arms of his Savior. Mike Miller was a larger-than-life man with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He loved his God, his country, his community and his family with a devotion that was unrivaled. He served his God at Hillcrest Baptist Church, of which he and Brenda are charter members. He served his country by devoting his life to the service of others. Mike was a member of the United States Army Reserve, and served his community as a Franklinton Policeman, a Washington Parish Sheriff’s Deputy and an investigator for the District Attorney’s office. During the latter part of his 30 years of community service, Mike and “Miss” Brenda opened Mike’s Restaurant, where nothing made him happier than seeing friends and family make memories and share good times while enjoying his cooking, for the last 29 years.

More than once, Mike could be heard saying “Evil triumphs when good men do nothing.”

He is survived by:

He was preceded in death by his parents Onzie Miller and Z.L. Jenkins Miller and a brother Clyde Dorman Miller.

A graveside funeral service will be held in Mt. Hermon Cemetery at 2:00 Friday April 10th with Rev. Tommy Smith and Dr. Gene Richards officiating.

Due to the circumstances impacting our community, a memorial service for all of Mike’s friends and family will take place at his church at a more appropriate time in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorial donations to Hillcrest Baptist Church (2201 Washington Street, Franklinton, LA 70438)

There will be a number of unique church services available to you this year.  FOX news is even posting one led by Rev. Franklin from City Park in New York at 10:00 in the morning.  With all the technology available to us now, you and I have the ability to worship over and over in different services this year.  Some will be inside, some outside.  Some at different times, some early.  Some from your car, but others only available in your home.  Some of you have been like me and enjoying numerous services each week.  This will still be Easter and may be the most unique and special one ever.

Good Friday

Bro. Tom Higginbotham is home from the hospital.  It’s early, but his doctors decided the chance of catching the virus in the hospital was great, so they let him go home.  Pray for Bro. Tom and Patti.

 

 

 

Linda Birch Williams has been concerned about her son having the Covid-19 virus, but now her attention has changed to her husband, Jimmy.  He fell and couldn’t get up.  The hospice nurse told her to call 911.  Long story short, the ambulance took him to St. Tammany Hospital where he was checked out for a broken hip.  Thankfully, it wasn’t broken, so she got to bring him home last night.  Pray for Jimmy as he recovers from the fall and Linda as she takes care of him.  Please pray for Jimmy and Linda Williams.

 

 

 

As the height of the Covid-19 crisis seems to be coming near or passing, please don’t slack up on staying at home and being careful to wash your hands frequently.

Joe Canale, father of one of my former students and husband to a lady I knew from high school, is a nursing home resident in Hammond.  He now has the Caronavirus.  Please pray for him and for his family.

 

 

 

Mrs. Joyce Herrington, a nursing home resident in New Orleans, has greatly improved from the Caronavirus.  She has been moved to a location where she can receive therapy to continue her improvement.  Please pray for this sweet lady.

 

 

 

Ruby King, a resident of Roseland, spent some time in the hospital the last few days.  When it was determined she did not have the virus, she was able to go home.  Pray for her to regain her strength.

 

 

 

Phillip Daryl Hanks

January 17, 1951 – April 08, 2020

A resident of Greensburg, LA, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at his home. He was born January 17, 1951 in Greensburg, LA and was 69 years of age. He was a member of Greensburg United Methodist Church and former owner of Hank’s Garage. Keep being patient about staying home.  This season will not last forever, but has been very helpful in slowing the spread of the virus.
