Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the LORD,

and he will reward them for what they have done.

Donald “Brudda” Phillip McDaniel

August 22, 1956 – August 5, 2022

Donald “Brudda” Phillip McDaniel, 65, of Kentwood, LA, passed away August 5, 2022. He was born on August 22, 1956, in Heidelberg, Germany, to E.P. and Kitty Sue Forbes McDaniel. Brudda was a typical military “brat” living in multiple places. He spent several years in Hixson, TN, where he enjoyed being part of the wrestling and pole-vaulting teams. He graduated from Valley Forge Academy in Kentwood, LA where he played football and baseball.

Brudda leaves behind a son, Christopher, daughter-in-law, Rachael, grandchildren, Jacob, Caleigh, Levi, and Asher all of Fort Worth, TX, siblings, Katera McMillan of Kentwood, LA, Susan Thornton of Tontitown, AR, and Nathan “Flip” McDaniel of Madison, AL, and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents E.P. and Kitty Sue McDaniel, grandparents Edward and Della McDaniel, Sr., Lexie Pierce, all of Kentwood, LA, and William “Pet” Forbes of Darbun, MS.

Brudda spent most of his adult life as a boilermaker out of Baton Rouge, LA. He was an active member of the Sons of the Confederacy, with local membership at Camp Moore. Brudda enjoyed taking his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews on a “walk-a-bout” on his home place, telling stories and wild tales. This always included each child having their own walking stick. Brudda was a kid at heart and loved spoiling the kids with a trip to the candy store. He also loved to talk about his family history and of times gone by.

Memorial services will be held at Greenlaw Baptist Church, in Kentwood, LA on Saturday, August 13, 2022, with Reverends Jay Avance and Harold Thornton officiating. A time of visiting with friends and family will be at 10:00 a.m. and the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. McKneely Funeral Home, Kentwood, in charge of arrangements.

Operation Christmas Child Workday Report

We had a good turnout of people who were focused on packing shoeboxes for the 2-4 year old boys. Due to their hard work, a hundred shoeboxes were packed in less than two hours. Great work by dedicated volunteers!

We will be working in preparation for the next packing day. If you want to be included, please let me know.

School supplies are in stores now. Some items are already on sale. It is a great time to make some purchases for OCC. Thanks to those who have done so.

Thank you for reading and praying today.

Anderson Ray Leto

January 28, 2022 – August 3, 2022

Anderson Ray Leto drifted off to sleep, and peacefully left his tiny body to enter his Heavenly home on August 3, 2022. In his short life, he reflected the perfect Love of our Savior in his big, joyful eyes and bright smile. His gentle and kind manner was apparent as he showed deep affection for his family, especially his twin Smith and big brother Douglas, by always reaching to hold hands. He will be forever loved and missed by his loved ones. Until we meet again, baby boy…

Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. Jeremiah 17:7

The family will hold a private celebration of life and burial for baby Andy. They thank you for the outpouring of love and support. In lieu of flowers, they ask for donations to be made to the Anderson Ray Leto Memorial Fund at any First Guaranty Bank location which will be used to bless families and children in need.

Please pray for the LeBlanc family as they try to find the best treatment for Linda’s heart problem at the Mayo Clinic. Yesterday, the doctors offered a possible oral medication rather than a difficult surgery. They are awaiting reports on whether or not this will be best for her. Your prayers are welcome for Jim, Linda, and Stewart, as well as other family members back at home.

My latest update is than I am out of the wheelchair and the two big, black boots. I have been to physical therapy four times, but have more than that ahead. Last night, for the first time in a long time, my feet and/or legs did not hurt. Pray with me that will continue and allow me to get more rest. I am using a walker and look forward to leaving it parked again.

OCC Workday – Our plans for Saturday include packing our first 100 boxes. We will pack the others on future workdays. Shopping continues for coloring books, spoons, calculators, crayons, jump ropes, etc. Thanks to all who have helped by providing items we need to fill the boxes. Please be in prayer for the children who will receive the boxes in the coming months.

Today, our prayer focus will be on NEW teachers. First year teachers have so much to learn about their school, curriculum, and students. All the rules and guidelines will be new to them. Pray for less anxiety and more confidence as the days roll by.
