Monday

“All authority in heaven and on earth

has been given to me.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,

baptizing them in the name of the Father

and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

and teaching them to obey everything

I have commanded you.

And surely I am with you always,

to the very end of the age.”

Dan Turner

Great news everybody! Today, I successfully completed the medical trial and met criteria to have the intrathecal Baclofen (ITB) pump surgically implanted. I am scheduled to see the neurosurgeon that will perform my surgery on 8/31. The surgery will be scheduled when I see him. It’s pretty cool—it’s the same neurosurgeon that helped keep me alive during my 3-week ICU stay at UMC. His name is Dr. Shiflett and he earned my respect and admiration while seeing his meticulous attention to detail when we worked together, during my helicopter years at UMC. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support over the past few weeks. We can mark this one down as, “prayers answered”.Great news everybody! Ken Roberts

Ken was airlifted to Tulane Hospital in N.O. last night in preparation for steps that hopefully will lead to a heart transplant.  Thank God Ken made it from Hammond to New Orleans and now has an opportunity to have this procedure.  Please keep praying.

Flo Hatcher

Carol New’s sister, Flo, has completed her physical therapy and will be able to go home today.  Please continue to pray for improvement and for her caregivers.

Mansell Stinson

Mansell still doesn’t know when his leg will have the balloons re-inflated/replaced to give him better circulation.  Please pray for him as he continues to wait for a date.

Betty Taylor

Betty continues to have several health issues, knee, eye, etc.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Monday

Consider it pure joy, my brothers,

whenever you face trials of many kinds,

because you know that the testing of your faith

develops perseverance.

Perseverance must finish its work

so that you may be mature and complete,

not lacking anything.

~James 1:2-4~

A quote I heard at church last night:

“Christians need the patience of a farmer

and the perseverance of an athlete.”

                                                ~Caleb Smith~

I love to have Scripture show up in timely ways.

Who would have thought this verse would come to my computer

shortly after the quote I heard?

God has a way of making his points clear to us!

May we all be more like farmers and athletes!

I talked with Wendy L. Alford at church last night.  She said her dad, Mike Lambert, is now in rehab and improving some.  Please continue to pray for Mike and his family.

Last night, Lisa Piner, said her mother, Alice Faye Lee, did not need a stent or a by-pass. She will be treated with medication and will possibly be coming home Monday.  Please continue to pray for this family.

New Zion Baptist Church would love to have you attend their monthly senior adult gathering, “Young at Heart”.  They meet on the third Tuesday each month at 10:30.

Thursday at 6:30, David and I will host the Third Thursday Gathering at the Cabin.

Pine Ridge United Methodist Church would love for you to attend their breakfast at 8 A.M. the fourth Sunday of each month.  Donations are used to support needs of individuals.

Friday, all ladies are invited to attend Bible study in the church fellowship hall at 10 A..M. We are studying Women of the Bible: The Wise Woman of Abel  – 2 Samuel 20:14-22.  Our group is growing!  We are learning great lessons of life.  Contact me for more information.

Tuesday of next week will be the “Young” Ladies Birthday Party at The Cafe at 11 A.M.  Come help us honor ladies who have August birthdays.

Thursday of next week, the ladies will host “Ladies Night: Follow the Ants to the Picnic”.  All ladies from 3-103 are invited to come picnic with us at the FBC fellowship hall of FBC.  You do not need to attend church at Kentwood to come.  All ladies are invited. Don’t miss out!

One of our on-going projects of Women’s ministry is Operation Christmas Child.  It is exciting to watch as our gifts are accumulating waiting for our packing party.  The party will only be a success if we purchase and donate items for the children’s shoe boxes. Check the area in the hallway of the fellowship hall closest to the coffee pot to get ideas for your purchases.

I need to borrow three or four  Scrabble games for a missions lesson.  If you have one I can use, please let me know.  You can bring it to me at church Sunday or Wednesday.  Please put your name on a sheet of paper inside the box.  Thanks!

Make this a week where you work for things that can have eternal value/meaning to others.

  • 17 hours ago                                                                                                                                               We’re waiting on counts, and hoping that they are better than last week, so we can resume chemo (and enjoy our camping trip with family.)
  • 12 hours ago                                                                                                                                                      We didn’t have a very good day at clinic. Macy’s counts have dropped even lower, and now she’s neutropenic. This comes with all the precautions: mask, food prep, isolation, etc…She also had some mind boggling lab results. They have been checking the level of her nighttime chemo in her blood over the last month. Apparently the results don’t make since (one part is way too high and one is way too low.) BR called Memphis, and they are even stumped. So they gave us a plan, which is to continue chemo as planned, even though her counts are almost bottomed out. This makes everyone nervous, so we’ll definitely be keeping a close eye on her this week.

In addition to all of this, Macy had some major port issues that caused a good bit of pain. Thank God for her wonderful nurses who eventually saved the day.

We’re still going camping, but Macy will have to miss playing in the lake and splash pad. No germs! No germs! No germs. Maybe if I say it enough it’ll happen.

Carol Jean Conerly

Pray for Carol Jean and her family as she has knee surgery today.

Mr. Phillip Harrell

Mr. Phillip fell in his kitchen and broke his hand again.  Please continue to pray for Mr. Phillip and “Miss” Annie Bell.  Also, pray for their daughter Phyllis, who is their primary caregiver.

Dan Turner

According to Ladd, Dan is doing well with his new treatment.  Let’s pray it continues to help him.

This morning someone reminded me that all the school supplies are on sale this time of year.  I knew that and planned to give you the opportunity to purchase some, either individually or as a group/class, for the shoeboxes we are packing.  Remember how much fun it is to buy school supplies.  I think you will find it even more fun to do so for the children who will receive shoesboxes through Operation Christmas Child.  If you did not look at the video about Devin at the top of this page, now would be the perfect time to do so.  Thank-you to those of you who have faithfully purchased items each month.

Yesterday’s special service at FBC certainly honored first responders and God in all that was said and done.

Mrs. Barbara Hutchinson called last night.  She said she was sick and hospitalized while on her big trip to Colorado.  She had acute mountain sickness, caused by the altitude change and dehydration.  She’s home now and still recovering.  Pray that a couple days of rest and nourishment, along with the medication, will have her feeling much better.  Pray for her as she sees a specialist tomorrow about her hip problem.  I’m also thanking God she had the opportunity to go to Colorado and enjoy some of her stay there and for those who took such good care of her on the bad days.
