I have some prayer requests sent to me yesterday that will remain unspoken.  I feel that including them today will remind us that sometimes people have prayer requests that must remain vague to others, but which is perfectly clear to the person who asks for prayer.

 

 

Pray for Cheryl Wilson and her family.  Surgery went well, but the future is unclear.  Help the family to keep trusting and following God.

 

 

Linda Frazier requests pray for two people who will be having surgery.  They are Dr. Bob Cleveland and Josh Gordon.

 

 

Two ladies I’ve know for many years passed away yesterday.  Mrs. Grace Chadwick knew my family before I was born.  She and her family have been a part of my life as we raised our family and attended Roseland Baptist Church.  Mrs. Martha Traylor/Dykes has been in my life about thirty years.  She is best know for her family, including her son Phillip Cole, sometimes called “Philco”.I also knew her as a grandmother to a student and as a neighbor . I’m sure both of these ladies are in heaven celebrating today.

Darryl Ray Carruth is feeling well and sleeping well after a stent in his heart.  Thank God for a successful procedure and a fast improvement.

 

Tuesday of last week at Ochsner on O’Neal. I saw two familiar faces in the hallway.  They were on the way to find snack machines and to take a break as I was.  Carl Wayne and Stephanie Grice had just received word that her mother has cancer.  Now, a week later, Cheryl Wilson is beginning treatment.

Tomorrow is a really big day for our family. We have to be at the hospital at 8 am for surgery for my mom Cheryl Wilson. The surgeon will be putting in a port for chemo, doing a biopsy of her tumors and running a scope. While we know that God has got this, we are human and are nervous and worried. Please, if you have the time in your schedule, take a moment and pray for us tonight, tomorrow…whenever you can. Prayers and our faith truly are the only things getting us thru day by day. I have said it before and I will say it again: let your loved ones know you care about them. Don’t be petty and selfish and vindictive because you will wake up one day and realize time is limited and you could have done better.

Get you students to school early this morning so they can participate.  Also, make plans to have them in attendance at the big rally at The Lighthouse at FBC, Kentwood tonight.

 

 

 

Operation Christmas Child – Less than five weeks until collection begins.  FBC, Kentwood will again be a collection site.  Get those “shoeboxes” ready!

Mr. Jimmy Tolar‘s last couple of weeks has been described as a “roller coaster ride”.  Most families have been on that “ride” with one or more family members and can understand what it is like.  Please continue to pray for the whole family.

 

We visited Mrs. Theople Hurst Saturday.  She is housebound for a couple of weeks.  Pray for her and her family as they show their love one for another.

Mrs. Bessie Broom Hayden has had her foot removed.  She’s got spunk and has already begun to plan on how she will be walking again soon.  Keep praying for her and watching for her return to church.

 

 

Wednesday is the day students are encouraged to “Bring your Bible to School”.  Let’s keep Christ in our schools!

 

 

We live in a troubled world.  Our Christians values are not seen in “the world”, but we should cling to them tightly.  We each need to cling to what we know to be right and the one who paid it all for us.

Today, I would like to ask for continued prayer for Jimmy Tolar, Theople Hurst, Bessie Hayden, Phillip Strickland, Linda Callihan, Buddy Morris, Buddy Waller, Brian Tate, and Wilma Smith.

 

 

This morning Pine Ridge United Methodist Church will serve breakfast at 8:00.  The breakfast gives us an opportunity to contribute to a local family with a need.  The ladies of the church carefully select a family each month.  The breakfast is delicious.  The opportunity to help meet a need is a good ministry in our area.

 

 

Tuesday, the “young” ladies of FBC,K will gather to honor our members who have had birthdays during the month.  The ladies being honored at The Cafe Tuesday at 11:00 are Yvonne Birch, Ann Smith, Jan Yarborough, Mary Miller,  Glenda Schilling, and Betty Simpson.  The lunch is dutch treat.  The birthday cake is always delicious.

Mrs. Jerrye Ichter passed away this week.  She and Bro. The Youth on Mission class is growing.  We meet on Sunday evenings at 5:00 in the missions classroom.  This week we will begin packing some backpacks for children who live in Appalachia and begin to learn storying so we can share God’s Word with others.

Don Dickinson‘s surgery went well yesterday.  Now, he is at home and recovering.

 

 

Update on David

  • Monday – Covington – CAT scan not done
  • Tuesday – Baton Rouge – Received 2 units of blood
  • Wednesday – Covington – CAT scan completed
  • Thursday – Covington – EGD done; Hammond – Blood work done

It’s been one of the hardest weeks of my life,  We still do not know where blood is being lost, but continue to search.

It’s been one of the sweetest weeks of my life.  Friends have shown up to help (WORK  in this heat) and to bring food.  Calls and visit have shown us love and concern.  God has richly blessed us through the medical personnel and personal friends.  I bragged to David that there were no medical appointments  next week, but by yesterday, we already had three for Monday.

The blood transfusion helped David more than we expected.  He has been able to drive, attend pray meeting, walked to the mailbox, etc.  We thank God for all the encouragement we received.  He is faithful!

  • Don Dickinson will be having surgery Thursday.  Don is having outpatient knee surgery tomorrow afternoon at the Orthopedic Surgery Center in Baton Rouge. Praying everything goes well. Thank you for prayers.  Judy Easley Dickinson
  • Jimmy Tolar is to have a heart procedure to improve his defibrillator Friday.  Please begin praying now.  He is at OLOL in Baton Rouge.
  • Phillip Strickland is sick tonight and has been taken to Ochsner in New Orleans.
  • Bessie Hayden is also at OLOL  She is scheduled to have surgery.  She has diabetes issues.
  • Sandy Birch had emergency gall bladder surgery, but is back home now.
  • Brian Tate is at home. Please keep praying for him.
  • Theople Hurst is at home and will possibly have more testing.
  • Jennifer Gehringer will be having jaw surgery.
  • Donna Fay Miller will have her cataract surgery on the second eye tomorrow.

Carolyn M. Cronin

November 15, 1949 – September 17, 2018

On the rainy Friday night of November 15, 1949, in Hammond, LA, Carol was born to Grover W. and Lillie Niquiporo Miller.  She was educated in St. Helena and Tangipahoa Parish Schools and moved to Baton Rouge to earn her B.S. degree in secondary education.  She worked for the State of Louisiana, taught for 3 years in East Baton Rouge Parish Schools, and worked for more than 15 years for Gulf States Utilities until her retirement in 1996.

In 1976, she met, and later married, her soul mate and the love of her life, Edward Cronin.  Their detached family included their children:  Leisha Cronin Landry and husband, Rickey, of Walker, LA; Melanie Hadden Tsika and husband, Paul Edward, of Richmond, TX; Sonya Cronin Rosamond and husband, Rick, of Livingston, LA; C. Scott Hadden and wife, Laura, of Leesville, LA; and Brad W. Hadden and wife, Katie, of Sumter, SC.  She also has two sisters:  Lana Jean Miller of Hammond, LA; E. Marlene Miller Roney and husband, Paul, of Hattiesburg, MS.  Other survivors include grandchildren, great-grandchildren, a nephew, two nieces, one great-niece and one great-nephew, and many extended family members, too many to list.  Also, special friends Mac and Audrey McChesney, and Pam Bowers.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at Hillsdale Baptist Church

LANE ALLEN GOTTSCHALCK

Lane Allen Gottschalck, age 3 of Hammond, Louisiana, gained his wings on Thursday afternoon, September 13, 2018 to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was surrounded by family and friends at his passing in New Orleans at Children’s Hospital. He was born on Friday, May 8, 2015, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

Lane was deeply loved by his parents, Chester and Whitney Rousseau Gottschalck; sister, Breanna Gottschalck, brother, Trevor Gottschalck; aunts and uncles, Randi Rousseau and Jonathan Serigne, Matthew Rousseau, Clay and Melanie Gottschalck, Craig and Rhonda Gottschalck; maternal grandparents, Cheryl Rousseau James and Darrell Rousseau;and paternal grandparents, Billy and Diane Gottschalck; many great-aunts, great-uncles,cousins, and friends.

Lane is preceded in death by his maternal great grandparents, Keever James and Edith James McLendon and Andrew and Ruby Rousseau; paternal great grandparents, Theodore and Mearl Cooper and Elmer and Hermine Gottschalck.

Lane was a sweet little boy who brought joy and happiness to every life he touched. Every day he was helping his mom and dad with the farm animals while riding on the ATV.  He loved listening to music, watching and listening to YouTube and playing video games with his brother Trevor.  Some evenings you could find Lane riding a sheep or a calf at the rodeo arena while under the watchful eye of his parents.

Lane enjoyed the beach with his family and watching the ocean waves lap over his feet. He fought many battles in his short life and was a true fighter until the very end. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation for Lane will be held on Friday, September 21, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and continue Saturday, September 22, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Harry McKneely& Son Funeral Home in Hammond. A Funeral Service celebrating Lane’s life will immediately follow visitation at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.Interment will follow at Stevens Cemetery in Tickfaw, Louisiana.

July 14, 1962 – September 16, 2018

A resident of Amite passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at Hood Memorial Hospital in Amite. He was born July 14, 1962 in Independence and was 56 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Gayle Frickey Catalano; sons, Branden Lee Catalano and Michael Scott Catalano; step-children, Lalonnie Marie Hines and husband, Thomas, Christy Gaudet, Keith Anthony “Bubba” Gaudet, Jr. and wife, Gretchen; 11 grandchildren, Isaiah Catalano, Michael Gaven Catalano, Jase Catalano, Sage Mathis Hines, Safia Elise Hines, Austin Doyle, Ethan Doyle, Aodhan Pope, Ethan Gaudet, Emma Gaudet, and Landon Gaudet; great-granddaughter, Violet Doyle; 3 sisters, Congetta Wheeler and husband, Earl, Mary Anne Hadley, and Kathleen Anthony; brother, Brian Keith Catalano. I wonder what opportunities each of us will have today to share our faith.  It may not be videoed for public viewing, but I’m sure that together we can impact our area for the Lord.  Some of these encounters will be planned, but some will happen spontaneously.  Either way, thank you for sharing your faith today.
