Gibbie McMillan and the mission roofing team are back at home.  They have plans to return to the church and complete some additional work when conditions improve.  Thank-you for praying for their safe return.

 

 

 

Update on Josiah Huckaby:

Yesterday we saw pulmonary. It was definitely a bittersweet appointment. Our pulmonologist is retiring & it was our last visit with him. We will be transitioning to a new doctor over the next couple of months but we have a great nurse practitioner that is going to help with this. She is very familiar with Josiah and even was part of his care team during his long hospitalization after birth.

As far as the visit, we are attempting to wean him off of diuretics again. They weaned his respiration rate. I think they were a bit surprised about how good he physically looks after such a rough fall/winter. Josiah won’t be able to attend preschool this fall like we originally had hoped. Out of all the doctor’s vent patients, we were 1 of only 2 that were told no school. We were also told after looking back through Josiah’s entire medical history, that he MIGHT be vent/trach free about the time he turns 5. This is exciting for us because it’s the 1st mention of a timeframe since before he got his trach. Now, we know ultimately God is in control & this could change for better or worse but it’s a huge praise nonetheless. To God be the glory!!!

Lori Lantz Rhodes

SEPTEMBER 29, 1969 – JULY 21, 2020

Lori Lantz Rhodes, age 50, passed away peacefully at her home on July 21, 2020.

She was born on September 29th, 1969 in Opelousas, Louisiana, and grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She attended Louisiana College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and met her husband, Keith Rhodes. The two married in 1991, had their first son, Zachary, in 1994 and their second, Benjamin, in 1996. In 2019, she lovingly claimed the title of “Lolli” with the birth of her grandson, Oliver.

Lori worked as an elementary school teacher for 19 years, where she found great love in teaching children to read. She sang beautifully in church choirs, in her kitchen, in the car, and anywhere else she could raise her voice in worship. Through all life’s struggles, she found encouragement and peace in worship. Lori Rhodes loved fiercely and abundantly, most especially her family, though her love extended to all the people she came across. She treated everyone with a great deal of kindness and hardly ever met a stranger, even if she was halfway across the country. One of Lori’s favorite places to be was the beach, stretched out in the sand with her toes in the waves, closely followed by the Dr. Seuss theme park at Universal Studios, Seuss Landing. Almost matching her passion for her family, friends, and students was her passion for dessert. Lori took great delight in savoring life’s sweet moments. Quick to laugh and even quicker to smile, her infectious joy and love were a reflection of the faith she had in Christ and will be carried on by all those who loved her.

She is preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Lantz, and her uncle, James Robert Jones. She is survived by her husband, Keith Rhodes; sons, Zachary (Lauren) and Benjamin Rhodes; grandson, Oliver Rhodes; mother, Glenda Lantz; brother, Jeff (Marjorie) Lantz; sisters, Sharon Anding, and Tressa (Derek) Ratchford; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Services for Lori will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2020, at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home, officiated by Bryan Reed, of The Simple Church. Interment will follow in Hill Crest Memorial Park. The family will receive guests on Saturday evening from 5-8 p.m.

Pallbearers include Eddie Merrill, Jeff Lantz, Kevin Rhodes, Derek Rathcford, Jay Hardy, and Marty Kent. Honorary pallbearers include her nephews.

Her family takes great comfort in knowing that Lori is now talking, singing, dancing, and laughing, completely healed at the feet of Jesus.

The mission team that needs to get back to Louisiana at the end of the week does not have a definite plan to return, but God is at work to make it happen.  I’m thankful they got to put the roof on a church and minister to others and thankful to know of God’s faithfulness to take care of His own.

 

 

Jules Tanksey and mother are back at home in their “bubble”.  Please continue to pray for this child and her family.

 

 

 

Mrs. Mildred Birch‘s gall bladder surgery went well yesterday.  She is back in the Sixth Ward and looking forward to her 90th birthday.  Thank you for praying for her.

 

 

 

Bryan Tate is hospitalized at St. Tammany with double pneumonia and an increased heart rate.  He’s been there since Sunday.  Pray for his improvement.  Pray for his family who cannot be with him while he is hospitalized.

 

 

 

Mary Ann Clemons in still in ICU, but improving while surprising her doctors.  Don Clemons is home and doing well.  Pray for the family during this difficult time of having more than one patient.

 

 

 

Lori Rhodes passed away last night.  Pray for Keith and the children as they face life without her.  Lori and Keith served our youth at FBC, Kentwood and touched the lives of many young people and their families.  I’m so thankful I got to know them.

 

 

 

Three men from our church, two family members, a neighbor, a friend who was in Jennie wedding because of an LC connection have all changed their addresses to their new homes in heaven.  This “stay at home time” has had some extra hard days as we missed being with families that are special to us in so many ways during their time of loss.  Great memories for me and difficult days for the family, but heavenly homes for those who no longer have to face our earthly trials!  I’m very thankful all of these people personally knew the Lord and are rejoicing to be in heaven today.

All my Facebook friends I need help. There are 11 of us men from Louisiana trying to help the people to rebuild after Hurricane Dorian last year.
However due to the COVID 19
The Bahamas are closing their borders and we are stuck.
We are working on the roof and need a flight to Ft Lauderdale on Friday. Should The Lord lay it on your heart to help get us home.

Maggie Ruth McCallister Holden, age 87, passed away on Saturday, July 18, 2020. She was a native of Lucien Mississippi and long time resident of Chalmette, La and Osyka, Ms. Maggie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, and aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband Clayton L. Holden Sr, sons John L. Holden and Luther W. Former Judge Carolyn Kiff of Pine Ridge was in an accident on highway 38 yesterday morning.  She passed away yesterday afternoon.  Please be in pray for “Miss” Carolyn’s family and for the driver of the truck that hit her.

  • Bubba’s sister, Margaret Frazier, will have a second thyroid surgery to remove any remaining portions of her thyroid today at BRG.
  • Margaret’s husband, Wayne, will have a procedure related to his pacemaker Thursday at University in Jackson.

Heart attacks, cancer, pneumonia, shingles, gall stones, Covid-19, etc.   There seem to be many illnesses in our area.  Pray for each person affected.  Each person has family members who are also affected by the illnesses.  Pray for them too.

 

 

 

Teaching, child-care, baking, singing, playing an instrument, cooking, driving, supervising, listening, encouraging, writing, visiting, sharing, baby-sitting, etc.  How does God want you to use your talents this week?

Angie Nielsen is requesting pray for her mother, Tay Cotton, who has been admitted to a hospital in Baton Rouge because of weakness and fatigue.  Angie is especially concerned about the Covid-19 virus in a hospital setting.

Keith and Lori Rhodes

Last Friday we made the decision to move Lori Lantz Rhodes to hospice care. It’s been a challenging week all the way around. I’ve watched my beautiful bride continue to decline as this terrible disease attacks her body. We’ve shed many tears these last few days.

As I put Lori in bed for the night, she looks at me and says, “We made it another day.”

Martha Simpson asked for special prayers for Matthew Simpson who had emergency surgery.  Matthew is on the road to recovery now.

 

 

 

Bro. Bobby Eads, a former youth minister at FBC, Kentwood, asks for prayers for his wife, Susie Eads, as they will meet with a surgeon today to plan/schedule a double mastectomy.  (They still live in Hazel Green, Alabama where they have been for 26 years. Bro. Bobby is a bi-vocational pastor and hospital chaplain.

A resident of Kentwood, LA, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond, LA. He was born April 25, 1929 in Magnolia, MS and was 91 years of age. He was a member at the Tangipahoa United Methodist Church. He is survived by his 2 daughters, Allison Gutierrez (JB) and Mary Ann Willson (Paul); 1 son, Arnold Pezant (Danielle); 1 sister, Bobbie Brashear (George); 2 brothers, Paul Pezant (Jimmie) and Halbert Pezant (Hideko); 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Pike Pezant; son, Stuart Jay Pezant; parents, Willie Paul Pezant and Eliza Jane Rhodus Pezant; sister, Jonnie Jackson. Good Morning everyone. Monday update from me. All is going great and I am doing everything that is important for me to go home to my precious husband of almost 52 years. He is my life. My Daughter Terri Smith Merklein is an angel and my son Joel is there to keep me in smiles all the time. His sweet smile just brings tears of joy. My Hayden Lance Merklein and Lia Lucero Smith are just super in all they do. Lance makes me the best food. The grandkids are just special to me. They are handling things great. Tanner Roberts and Erin McGinnis I love these special grandkids. I just want to thank all of you for the prayers and concerns and will still need them so e every one please wear your mask, wash your hands and social distance. Learned a lot here in hospital and it works. Do it 3 weeks and let’s flip this sad scenario. May God Bless all of you and love you all.

 

 

 

A former students asks for prayers for her mother who has a respiratory problem that she deals with periodically, not the virus.

 

 

 

Another former student shared he lost a parent to the virus and urges others to wear a mask so they do not have a similar experience.

If you see someone falling behind,

     walk with them.

If you see someone being ignored,

  find a way to include them.

Always remind people of their worth.

One small act could mean the world to them.

 

 

Be careful in the extreme heat today.  If you are outside, drink extra fluids so you don’t become dehydrated.
