John “Jack” Ernest Capdau

June 14, 1928 – March 03, 2019

A resident of Amite passed away at Tulane Medical Center on Sunday, March 3, 2019. He was born June 14, 1928 in New Orleans and was 90 years of age. He is survived by his wife, Sharon McDaniel Capdau; five children, two step-children, seventeen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. A Memorial Service will be held at Pine Grove United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00AM conducted by Pastor Rev. Betty McCarver. A meal and fellowship at the church will follow services.

James W. (Jimmy) McGraw

June 05, 1948 – February 27, 2019

James W. (Jimmy) McGraw of Amite, Louisiana, and beloved husband of Carolyn Moore McGraw for 49 years, died peacefully at home on February 27, 2019, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Jimmy was born June 5, 1948, to Margaret and Robert West McGraw. He grew up in Woodville, Mississippi, and graduated in 1966 from Woodville Attendance Center where he excelled in academics and athletics. Jimmy received both his undergraduate and master’s degrees from Mississippi State University in accounting and data processing. He was a self-employed Certified Public Accountant in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Amite. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Rogers, Roy, and Robert McGraw. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, and two sons, David Brian McGraw (Susan Esteven) and Michael Scott McGraw. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Tristen Brian McGraw, Keaten David McGraw, Presley Susan McGraw and Michael West McGraw and numerous nieces and nephews. Also his little dog, Sweetie Pie, who stayed by his side during his illness. One of Jimmy’s greatest passions was his love of family. He enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren and introduced zip-lining, snorkeling, indoor skydiving and deep sea fishing to them at an early age. Jimmy was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Mississippi State Bulldogs, New Orleans Saints, Chicago Cubs and San Diego Padres play ball. Jimmy also enjoyed all holidays as was evident in his vast collection of decorations and yard art. He loved animals, and, of course, loved Miss. State bulldogs. The family would like to thank all of Jimmy’s health care providers, Dr. Saux, all the personnel, especially Lisa King and Kathy Mason at St. Joseph’s Hospice and Dr. Zachary Pray for the excellent care he received during his illness. We would especially like to thank Jimmy’s dearest childhood friend, Lewis Prine, for the numerous hospital visits and trips he made with Jimmy to M.D. Anderson in Houston, Texas. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 14 with visitation from 9 to 11 and service at 11:00 at the First United Methodist Church in Amite, Louisiana. A celebration of Jimmy’s life will follow the memorial service at Claire’s on Mulberry. The family request that in lieu of flowers donations can be made to St. Joseph Hospice and the youth fund at the First United Methodist Church in Amite.

Charlotte Durbin Webb

February 06, 1943 – February 26, 2019

A resident of Amite passed away on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 in Kentwood. She was born February 6, 1943 in Ft. Sill, OK and was 76 years of age. She was a member of St. Helena Catholic Church. She is survived by her daughter, Aimee Garner and husband, Richard, of Kentwood, LA; 3 stepdaughters, Geralyn McGuire and husband, Kevin, of San Diego, CA, Dawn Abernathy and husband, James, of Amite, LA and Lori Webb of Amite, LA; grandchildren, Hailey Rainey, Shane Abernathy, Meghan McGuire, Alayna Garner, Alyce Garner, Avery Garner, and Dillon Jeansonne; 1 sister, Kay Gay and husband, Donald, of Amite, LA; 2 brothers, John Currier of Luling, LA and Ronald Currier of Baton Rouge, LA. Preceded in death by husband, Wayne Webb; 2 sons, Derek Jeansonne and Michael Jeansonne; 1 brother, Anthony Currier, Jr.; mother, Hilda Currier; step dad, Anthony Currier, Sr.; father, Carl Durbin. Shoeboxes don’t get packed in a big way in October/November unless shopping begins early. Suggested items to look for now include small cars, small plastic animals, small stuffed animals, and small dolls. Items can be left in the classroom next to the choir. Thank-you for helping now and in the coming months. One suggestion is to make some purchases each month, not to wait until the last minute.

Allen Stewart had skin grafts from burn injuries and was released from the hospital yesterday. Pray for him as he heals. We all know burns are painful.

Update on Mike Yarborough:

Prayers are Powerful! ! ! The cauterizing of the ulcer seems to be holding. Mike’s blood count is up and he’s been moved out of ICU. Hoping for a discharge today or tomorrow. I’ll be flying up there Monday morning for a week hoping to keep him from over doing it when he does get home. Thanking all of you for your prayers and concerns. I’m forever grateful. Also say a prayer for me as I’m be on that plane.

John update! Surgery on his neck was successful. Bone spurs removed and discs removed and fused. Going home today! Thank you for your prayers.

John is experiencing some swelling which is causing difficulty in swallowing. Pray this doesn’t last long!!

Please pray for Blair Widas of Roseland. She had her gall bladder removed and will be recovering at home.

Tarra Ballard Lee said her step-dad, Allen, was burned on his head and back. He is hospitalized in Jackson. Pray for him as he has burn treatment.

Margaret Jean Redmond

April 05, 1937 – February 20, 2019

Margaret Jean Redmond passed away on February 20, 2019. Margaret was born in Grenada, Mississippi on April 5, 1937. She was a lifelong resident of Greensburg, Louisiana. She was retired and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She loved classic movies and to read, cook and host holidays for her family. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Franklin W. Redmond of Greensburg, Louisiana. Margaret had two sons, Frank Redmond, a resident of Prairieville, Louisiana and Paul Redmond, a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. Margaret had two grandsons, Collin Redmond of Prairieville, and Matthew Redmond who preceded her in death and will embrace his grandma again in heaven. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. There will be a memorial service for her at McKneely Funeral Home in Kentwood, Louisiana on Saturday, March 2 from 1:00 until 4:00.

Katherine “Faith” Brewer Rohner

March 25, 1939 – March 01, 2019

Katherine “Faith” Brewer Rohner, a resident of Greensburg, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2019. She was born March 25, 1939 in Houma and was 79 years of age. She was a retired director and educator with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System. She is survived by her sister, Susie Bardwell, Houston, TX; niece, Amy W. Evans and husband, Jimmy, and their children, Katie, Jamie, and Matthew of Denham Springs, La; and numerous nieces and nephews. Also survived by special friends, Tiny and Freddie Carter and their children, Matt, Amy, and Cindy. Preceded in death by her husband, Joseph L. Rohner; parents, Kate and Henry Brewer; sister, Janis B. Williams. Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 4, 2019. Jimmy Mcgraw of Amite also passed away. He has fought a long, hard battle with cancer for the last three years. I will post an obituary when one is available.

There continue to be many families and individuals to pray for. One way you can minister to them is to share a mutual story, memory, or photo. Serving others helps you take the focus off yourself!

As a child, I remember a Sunday School class at Roseland Baptist Church named “JOY”. A sign on the door said

J – Jesus first

O – Others second

Y – Yourself last.

I do not remember who the members of the class were, but I often think that real joy does come from placing Jesus and others before myself.

Pray for Bryan and Rita Tate as they spend most of this month in Texas for his treatment at MD Anderson.

Sometimes you get off to a slow start, but work hard to catch up. That seems to be true for Operation Christmas Child. They suggest you purchase, make, and gather quality crafts for the shoeboxes that will be packed in the fall. Feel free to bring your items to the Sunday School classroom next to the choir room. A resident of Greensburg, LA , passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 at her home. She was born February 11,1932 in Ponchatoula, LA and was 87 years of age. She was a member of the Greensburg Chapter of Eastern Star and Louisiana Teachers Association and a member of Red Bluff Baptist Church. She is survived by 1 daughter, Belinda Moreland; 3 sons, Clyde Harrell, Jr. and wife Marlene, Brent Harrell, and Lake Harrell; 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by husband, Clyde Harrell, Sr.; 1 daughter, Melanie Harrell Sharp; mother, Bernadine Wagner; father; Christian P. Jennie met up with Boyd at the Atlanta airport. Her plane was late and his was early so they managed to fly on to Richmond together where they will be in IMB meetings for the next week or so. David and I survived the first day without her wonderful help.

Jason Dean‘s gall bladder surgery went well this morning. Pray for Jason as he recovers.

Becki Alford, our daughter-in-law, is probably going to have the same surgery soon. Please pray for Becki and her family.

Friday is a big day for the unspoken prayer request I have been asking for you to pray about.

Please be in prayer for the many families who have lost a loved one recently.

Also, pray for families with a lost, unsaved, family member. Pray that family member will make the decision to turn their life and their eternity over to God.

David is receiving his third unit of blood. We don’t know if he will be coming home or staying for additional testing or treatment. Thanks for your prayers.

Pine Ridge is having its monthly breakfast benefit at 8:00 this morning. Enjoy a great breakfast and help someone with a special need.

FBC, Kentwood is having a blood drive today. It was in the Lighthouse (old post office) last year. Stop by to make a difference. Yesterday, the head oncologist at Ochsner said there is only one source of blood, people. So people who can, give some to help others!

If I have my dates right, this morning there is a breakfast for ladies at 8;45 and a brief speaker before Sunday School at FBC, Kentwood.

Think about your life this week. Who has physical needs? Who has spiritual needs? Who has other needs? I think this will give you lots of opportunity for prayer.

Job and K.K. Huckaby have finished the adoption process and are now the legal parents of Josiah Huckaby. Join with the family in celebrating this big step. Pray for this special couple as they care for their special son God sent to them.

Yesterday was a long day. David had labs in Hammond, a cardiologist appointment in Hammond, OT at home, and saw the liver specialist in Baton Rouge at the new Ochsner! His therapy is progressing because he can now do things like get up from a chair on his own. The cardiologist gave David a good report. The EKG was good and medication was adjusted. The liver specialist gave us more information about cirrhosis, adjusted his medication, and added a new medication. Please keep us in your prayers.

Sunday night at the end of church I shared a prayer request. My request was included in the closing prayer. Within five minutes, I had my request answered. What an awesome God we serve!

Shelton Day got sick Saturday and is now at North Oaks. He apparently got treatment in time and is doing much better. Keep praying for him, his family, and his friends.

We see Debbie Wilkinson often, including Saturday night. This is her Tuesday report about her regular trip to MD Anderson for one of her frequent check-ups.

Well another trip down! My doctors are keeping my treatment the same for now bc my scans were “stable”.. only two tumors had very little increase and no new growth or spreading, THANK you GOD !! Exhausted and got about two hours until we are home! My pilot and copilot are doing good in this weather and traffic … God has a plan for me and He has me in His hands, keeping me and doing something supernatural on the inside I am sure 😊😊. HE IS A GOOD GOOD FATHER !! As always thank you everyone for your continued prayers 😘. Love zsazsa

Marilyn Bond Morgan

August 17, 1931 – February 14, 2019

A light is gone, and heaven is enriched with the passing of Marilyn Bond Morgan. A resident of Montpelier, she passed away on Thursday, February 14, 2019 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Walker. She is survived by her 4 children, Bobbie Lynn Morgan, Cindi Morgan Blades and Bill, Thomas Parker Morgan, Sr., Jonathan Sandifer Morgan and Donna; 4 grandchildren, Kim Konzelman Webb and Wil, Cortney Hamilton Burch, Thomas Parker Morgan, Jr. and Brittany, and Brittany Laine Morgan; 8 great-grandchildren, William Baylor Travis and Janna, Emilee Claire Webb, Maggie Catherine Webb, Mia Catherine Clemons, Jaxson Gage Burch, Cooper Thomas Burch, Elly Parker Burch, and Briggs Law Burch; sister, Jewel Bond Washington; and longtime friend Ernest A. Watts, Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. “Bobbie” Morgan; parents, Henry and Nannie Brown Bond; grandson, Robert William Clemons, Jr.; brother, William “Bill” Bond; sister, Charlotte Bond Prewitt.

Marilyn was born August 17, 1931 in Montpelier and was 87 years of age. She was a graduate of the Baton Rouge Business College and during her life she was employed with the Welfare Department, as a Dairy Farmer, and with the United States Postal Service in Pine Grove, Greensburg and Hammond. She was a member of Montpelier United Methodist Church, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the St. Helena Parish Forestry Association.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She loved sharing her life’s past times, playing cards, LSU football and was always on the go. She especially enjoy her most recent travels with her first grade classmate and friend of eighty years, Ernest Watts. Marilyn was a faithful servant of her community, church and, Lord. She was known as “MawMaw Marilyn” to many, and will be truly missed.

Visitation at McKneely Funeral Home, Amite, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday. Visitation will resume on Monday at Montpelier United Methodist Church from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. Interment Montpelier Cemetery, Montpelier. Blood Drive – FBC, Kentwood will host it’s annual blood drive next Sunday, the 24th. If you will be able to donate blood, please call the church office and get a designated time.

Today is the day Jennie planned to come for a visit. After David’s last hospitalization, she came earlier. She has been so helpful doing the three things I requested and much more. She will be here until the 28th. Join me in thanking God and her family for sharing her with us. Today, she will drive him to Baton Rouge for an injection and I will stay here to do something else. Pray all goes according to plans.
