Some of you may be interested in another retirement.  Rev. Bobby Eads, former youth minister at Kentwood and currently senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Hazel Grove, Alabama, announced his retirement Sunday.  Bro. Bobby has served there for 18 years.  His official date of retirement is April 7th.

Today is Day 19 of our 90 ( really 88 ) days of Bible readings.  I love the format of reading only in one book of the Bible each day.  Also, it is so easy to see your progress with this plan.

Wednesday Addition

From Velta Morris

First, I want to thank each of you for your prayers and concern and your many expressions of love over the past several months.  To recap a bit about where we started and where we are now:

In January 2012 I was diagnosed with follicular lymphoma, a non-aggressive type of lymphoma (one of 30 types of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma).  In August some nodes became aggressive and required 6 rounds of chemotherapy, the last of which I had in mid-December.  My last CT scan was on Monday of this week.

Today, my oncologist confirmed that I was done with chemo and there was no new activity!  This type of lymphoma, however, will become active again at some point – we all hope it will be years, if the Lord wills.

My doctor discussed with me the option of going on a two-year maintenance program where I could receive an infusion of the drug Rituxin (not chemo) every two months (it has NO side effects); he explained that this would not extend life expectancy, but it had been shown in studies to delay the need for chemotherapy when the lymphoma does become aggressive again, which we hope is years down the road.

As of today, I have opted to have the Rituxin infusions, beginning on February 13; I will keep my buddy “port cath” (we’ve gotten really attached – pun intended J.) I can now resume my normal activities – even going back to Wal-Mart – yay!  Got my flu shot, so I’m good to go!

My oncologist is very pleased with my progress and the way I tolerated and responded to the chemo.  He is very optimistic about my future and rejoiced along with me!

Your love, prayers, and encouragement have gotten me through this and Bill has been here for me each step of the way!  I’m thankful beyond measure for each of you who have carried me along this journey.  If I’m not being too selfish, would you pleasekeep me in your prayers until I release you? J

To God Be the Glory! I love you.

I thank my God every time I remember you. Philippians 1:3 (NIV)
