Rainy Tuesday

Pray for the Councils and the Hatchels today.  Moving days are long and stressful.  One move is long, but the other one is shorter.  Everything has to be packed, moved, and unpacked in either move.

Pray for Frank Smith’s family as he has two sick parents.  Frank and Sue will be flying to MS where Frank’s mother is receiving hospice care.  His dad is hospitalized in LA.  They need special prayers.

My former student, Cindy, who lives in the Albany-Holden area is having to leave her home again due to flooding.  This time the move is expected to be for weeks, not days.  Pray they can maintain some normalcy in their lives.

Pray for those not too far north of here who are dealing with icy conditions.

Reesa B. DeLee is at her home with home health care.  Pray for her and for her family as Reesa continues to heal from her surgery.

Mr. Billy Travis is hospitalized in North Oaks.  Please pray for the Travis family as they attend to his needs.

The father of two of my classmates (twins) passed away yesterday.   Many of you many have know him as the local extension agent or as a faithful member of FBC, Amite.  I knew him as the kind and gentle father of my friends who allowed his girls to have all their friends over each January for their birthday slumber party.  What fun we had!  In recent years, he has been the kind man we frequently saw at Mikes at lunch time on Sundays.  He is already missed in Amite.

Delos Hall Jones
(October 10, 1917 – January 13, 2013)

Delos Hall Jones, 95, longtime resident of Amite, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Delos was born on October 10, 1917 in Enon, LA to Alma Magee Jones and Ernest Jones and was raised in Bogalusa. Following graduation from LSU, he entered the US Navy and served as a pilot in WWII, achieving the rank of Lt. Commander. After completing a Master’s Degree at LSU, he was employed by the LSU Agricultural Extension Service in Tangipahoa Parish his entire career. He was known and loved by many and enjoyed nothing more than giving away the fruits and vegetables he grew in his large backyard garden. Delos was predeceased by his wife of 54 years Evelyn Fendlason Jones, sisters, Myra Higginbotham and Jessie Mae Bateman and brother, Woodrow Jones. He is survived by daughters, Arleen Fortson (Tom), Maureen Stricker (Peter) and son, Gilbert Jones (Frances), as well as grandchildren, Maureen Fortson Dean (Nick), Thomas Fortson, Jonathan Stricker, Jeffrey Stricker (Lori), Courtney Jones LaFever (Matt) and Stephen Jones (Courtney) and Great Grandson Knox Jones. He is also survived by brothers, James Jones from Fort Worth, TX and J. P. Jones (Thelma) from Lafayette, LA, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at McKneely Funeral Home in Amite on Thursday, January 17 between 4:00pm and 7:00pm. Visitation will also be from 9:00am until 11:00am on Friday, January 18 at First Baptist Church in Amite immediately followed by the funeral service. Burial will be at Amite Memorial Gardens. Yes, more rain and cooler temperatures are in our forecast for today.  Thank you, God, for weather that keeps life from being boring and meets our needs even when we don’t know why we are getting more rain.

 I got to stay the night with my big brother, Dan Turner. Was really nice to get to spend some time with him. We have talked about a multitude of things in a short amount of time. Thank you, Lord, for that gift! Dan underwent a great deal of testing yesterday by physical therapists, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, and speech therapists. Today is the day where they really start to work him. His spirits are good and he’s ready for the task! Please continue to pray for Dan. Thank you all for your prayers!

remember Marshall….He is in ICU in Covngton. Went in yesterday with cpmlication with the COPD. They put him in ICU on bi-pap to try to help with the oxygen sats. If this doesn’t work then they will have to intubate. Will know more tomorrow after the night on bi-pap. thanks everyone

Dickie Sitman had his surgery and is home.  Thank-you for your continued prayers for him.

Linda B. Williams had a seizure yesterday, so she will be seeing her doctor today.  She was doing well with her new pacemaker.  Pray for her and her doctor.

It seems Dickie Sitman and Ruby Schwartz are both headed for gall bladder surgery.  Please keep them in your prayers.

Thankfully the winds were not as bad as expected yesterday.  The flooding problem is getting better in some areas but worse along the rivers.  Pray for safety for those who travel in those areas.

3. Update from my former student who had water lapping at the bottom of her trailer yesterday              (Holden/Albany area)

I am so thankful right now and i want to thank all of you for your prayers… I went to the house and the water is going down… Thank god the rain didn’t do what they thought it was… If it keeps going down hopefully we can go home tomorrow… Again thanks for the prayers!!!!:-)

Thursday Addition

Please keep Caroline in your prayers. She is back in the Children’s Hospital in Jackson, Ms. again with a very high fever and her immune system is basically at zero right now so she may have to be there for a little while. Last night her fever went up to 104.5 and they had to wipe her down with alcohol to try to cool her off. She remains in good spirits though, children are remarkable.

Thursday

Rafe Cutrer is better this week.  Thank God for his continued progress.  Brandy is progressing too.  Pray for both of them.

Donnie Travis is still dealing with complications.  He will need another surgery, probably Tuesday.  Pray for the doctors at OLOL as they work with Donnie.

Dan Turner is “showing out” as Ladd says.  He’s making some good progress now and doing things he hasn’t been able to do in the last month.  Keep praying for Dan’s continued improvement and for his family and coworkers who are sticking close and doing all they can to help him.

Pray for our neighbor, Dickie Sitman, as he continues to undergo tests at North Oaks.

I like this method because you do all your reading in one book at a time.  I feel like I’m making good progress and am enjoying reading the Scriptures over again.

The weather is going to be bad, but we don’t need an ark because God promised he would never destroy the world with water again!  Be alert and careful today.

Wednesday

Please begin to pray for those who live in areas that are flooding.  Some people had to leave their homes during the night.  Now, they are wondering what is happening there.  Pray for peace for them and the assurance that their family is safe even if their home is now.

Mrs. Magdalene Ford’s surgery went well.  She should be home in about a week.

Mrs. Linda B. Williams is home with her new pacemaker.  She is thankful her problem was found and taken care of.

Pray for Ruby Schwartz as she undergoes tests to determine what needs to be done to help her.

Pray for all the people who continue to have colds, coughs, flu, and bronchitis.  All these seem to have hit hard in our area.  Many people think they are better and then relapse.

Dan Turner continues to improve.  Yesterday, he took a wheelchair ride to the area where the helicopters land and take off – the area where he got on those helicopters to help people who needed emergency care.  That should have been fantastic motivation for him to get better.

Pray for the Houeye and Miller families as they bury loved ones on this rainy day.
