Paul Edward Stinson

June 08, 1947 – April 25, 2020

Paul Edward Stinson passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2020 in Covington, LA at the age of 72. He was born Sunday, June 8, 1947 in McComb, MS. to the late Earl and Adelaide Stinson. Through out his life he called many places his home. He is survived by his daughters Pauline Hitchcock and Donna (Keith)Schilling Manning; sons Terry, Jerry(Gloria), Derrick and Ryan Stinson. step-sons Emilio(Kristen) Aldana, Timothy and Kenneth Evrett; grandchildren Kelly(Jade) Dunlavey, Karissa(Scott) Simpson, Amber Hitchcock, Blake, Blaine and Kelsey Schilling, Joseph(Amanda) Jones, Briana Stinson, Kayla Stinson, T.J. Stinson, Derrick Stinson, Jr. , James Stinson, Kendra, Ashley and Charles Evrett; great-grandchildren Schyler, Landon, Connor, Courtney, MaKayla, Lathem, Kairi, Jeffery, Alayah, Emilio, Jr., Grayson, hunter, Caiden, Ryleigh, Tnyleigh, Zayden, Emmaleigh, Paisleigh, Everleigh, Addie, Bradyon, Ryder, Lane and Patrick; two sisters Lois(Roger) Pittman and Linda Burt; and several nieces and nephews. I understand the weather was bad south of us in the Hammond area late yesterday afternoon.  Pray for them as they go through clean up and recovery like many of our Mississippi friends have been doing for the past few weeks.  Thankfully, I have not heard of any fatalities north or south of us.  More storms are expected in the next few hours.  Be safe, my friends.

I’m happy to share that Ollie Simmons went home yesterday.  He will be seeing his doctor today.

 

 

 

Sherrill Caraway is having health issues again related to his heart rhythm.  Please pray for him and his family.  They live in the Greensburg area.

 

 

 

Jan Yarborough has been hospitalized at North Oaks since Saturday.  She is having kidney problems.  Plans are for her to come home today  and see her doctor Friday to schedule a procedure.

 

 

 

Alice Faye Lee fell an home resulting in 8 stitches in her head.  Please pray for God’s protection for those who have balance and other issues that might lead to falls.

 

 

 

Please keep Martha Griffith in your prayers,  Her health problems are continuing issues.

 

 

 

Betty Catherine Hatcher needs our prayers for strength as she continues her long battle.  She is able to maintain a sweet spirit through her tough times.

 

 

 

Paul Morgan had a heart attack two and a half months ago.  He was able to go to work Monday and was surprised with a furlough.  Pray for him to be able to keep a positive attitude and regain more strength and endurance during this time.

Josiah is always obsessed with coffee cups. He even has his own little toy coffee cup so we can have our morning coffee together. I might have let him try a small drop of my coffee this weekend & apparently that was all the motivation he needed. This morning he took his first steps & cruised down the (in)side of the crib.

Nita Russell Miller is doing better and now tests negative for the virus.  She is not allowed to go back to the nursing home for thirty days, so she will be staying in the hospital as she regains her strength.  Pray for her and her family as she continues to improve.  Thank God for her improvement.

 

 

 

Lloyd Hayden of Arcola had a light stoke that has only left a little weakness.  He is scheduled to return home today.  Pray for him as he returns home for recovery.  Lloyd will get good care from four generations of ladies in his family.  Thank God for Lloyd’s good news.

 

 

 

Ollie Simmons is also doing better.  (Maybe I should call today Good News Monday.)  He has improved and will probably “bust out” of the hospital today.  This is another reason to thank God today.

 

 

 

While I’m on this line of thinking and thanking God, I would like to share again how much David has improved.  From being too weak to get up from a chair, needing blood (23 units), hospitalizations, a walker, a cane, tremendous weight loss, no appetite, malnourishment, more trips to the. doctor than I can count, etc., he is GREATLY improved.  Our neighbors are even reporting to other neighbors that he is working in the yard (and LOVING it).  I send Jennie pictures of him outside and working.  Her first word is “AMAZING!”.  We have an amazing God who has decided He has a reason to leave David here for His purpose.  We are so blessed.

 

 

 

I hope you were able to watch and enjoy some church services yesterday.  We were.  I want to remind you that the church services from numerous churches are available  online for us to view on other days of the week, not just on Sundays.

Ollie Simmons, young son of Stan and Bethany, had a successful knee surgery yesterday.  The results were better than hoped for.  Please continue to pray for Ollie.

 

 

 

I think the new methods of having church, drive-in and tune in, are really catching on.  Even some of the smallest churches are now getting involved in one way or the other.   David and I have enjoyed being able to “tune-in” to several services each Sunday.

I hope you realize that we have read one-fourth of the Bible so far this year, a small portion each day.  If you haven’t joined in yet, it is never too late to jump in and read with us.  If you get behind, it only takes a little extra reading to catch up.  I did just that yesterday.  In fact, I am a little ahead.

Hardcopies of the reading plan will be available at FBC.  Call and ask that a copy be set aside for you.

Please add Rene Deck Terrell to you prayer list.  She fell at home over a week ago when she tripped over a stool and has some bad cuts and bruises.  Pray for her as she sits and heals while thinking of things she had planned to do.

 

 

 

Please pray for Stan and Bettany Simmons young son, Ollie, who is facing surgery today on a knee infection that has been hard to diagnose.  You can pray based on that limited information.  Tommy and Wanda Simmons can fill you in if you ask them.

 

 

 

David and I have been quarantined for six and a half weeks.  I never thought that would happen to us, but it has and it is not bad.  The future length of the quarantine for us is likely to be longer than for most of you, but we just take this one day at a time.  Join us in praying for all those who are fighting the Covid – 19 virus and all those who are caring for them.

Pray for the disaster relief teams working just north of us in McComb.  They are doing a good job of helping people get their homes and lives back after the rounds of tornados we have had recently.  If you know someone who is working, give them a special thanks.  If you are trained and available, contact LA Baptist Disaster Relief and volunteer.  If you would like to provide something to the teams, you can also call LA Baptist Disaster Relief.

 

 

 

Once again, the weekly services from FBC, Kentwood will not be open for you to attend.  However, you can join them via Facebook or YouTube.  Sunday services are at 10:30 and 6:00 with Wednesday’s service at 6 P.M.

Pray for Caleb Estay, son of Landon and Alisha.  He has been hospitalized.  His problem could only be an infected knee, but his symptoms warranted the hospitalization to be sure.  Pray for answers soon.  Pray for the anxious family as they await the answers.  Thank God for facilities and personnel in place to help people during these difficult times.

 

 

 

Buddy Morris has been getting radiation daily.  Today, he will have a PET scan to check the current situation which will determine the future treatment.  Pray for Buddy, Eleanor, and Ellen.

 

 

 

Pray for people to stay faithful in following the suggestions offered for doing our part in fighting Covid – 19.  Let’s not grow weary, but instead stay alert.

My cousin, Scott Tolleson, got to leave the hospital after six days.  No more infection, so he is back at home.  Everyone was both thankful and tired last night.

 

 

 

Robin Alford, Walton and Peggy’s second daughter, is continuing to improve from her ankle injury.  Six weeks down and six more weeks to go.  Peggy and her sister, Polly, are still there to help Robin manage all the stairs.  Robin in looking forward to moving into a one-level home soon.  Thank you for your continued prayers for Robin.

 

 

 

Kami Frazier Bourque, a former student, who is studying to be a nurse has had Covid – 19, but is now home.  Pray for her as she continues her recovery and returns to nursing school.

 

 

 

Jameson McDaniel was born yesterday.  He weighed 5 lb. 3 oz. and was 18.5 in. long.  Celebrate the birth of this child with Austin and Brittany.

A resident of Amite, LA, Becky passed away on Monday, April 20, 2020, at her home. She was born September 26, 1950 in New Orleans, LA and was 69 years of age. Becky was a skilled and compassionate nurse, and generous and dedicated supporter of many philanthropic causes. She served on the boards of many community organizations over the years, both in Louisiana and her longtime home state of North Carolina. She is survived by her husband, Tim Desmond, MD; mother, Frances Snell Anderson; sister, Claire Anderson Bel; brothers, Andy Anderson and Pat Anderson; nieces, Angie Anderson Danielson (J.R.), Megan Bel Miller (Joel), Erin Newman (Craig), Hannah Anderson, and Molly Bel (Danny Strickland); great-nieces and great-nephews, Abbie Holmes, Savannah Danielson, Luke Danielson, Millie Danielson, Parker Miller, Caroline Miller, Anna Newman, and Anderson Newman; and sister-in-law, Kim Andrews Winslow and husband, Eric. I am so pleased to share two reposts concerning special ladies.

 

 

 

My cousin, Scott Tolleson, is still hospitalized and seems to be improving.  As you pray for him, please pray for his wife, Brenda, who is having a terribly hard time adjusting to not being able to care for him.

 

 

 

David went to The Grove, new Oshsner in Baton Rouge, yesterday.  Due to the virus, that will be our destination for a while.  There were many precautions in place so the virus would not be spread.  I got to wait in the car again.  I enjoyed reading from the book of Mark this time.  David’s blood level was 10.5, another good number, the best one so far.  The nurse practitioner he saw yesterday asked about the lack of his walker.  She was totally amazed to see him.  She told him to continue doing whatever he is doing.  We thank God for each of these days and thank you for your many prayers.

 

 

 

Dianne Strickland

March 16, 1946 – April 18, 2020
Dianne, age 74, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family Saturday, April 18, 2020. She was a native of Kentwood and a longtime resident of Hammond. Dianne loved the Lord and was a member of Spring Creek Baptist Church for many years. Her family always came first. Dianne was a loving partner, mother, grandmother, and friend who is already dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Dianne is survived by loving partner, Ed Chehardy and her “favorite child,” Shadow; her daughter, Rhonda Strickland Hartis and husband Charles; daughter, Jeannie Strickland Sciacca and husband Tony; son, Jesse ‘Jay’ Strickland and wife Tammy; grandchildren, Jessica Hartis, Landon Hartis, Brayden Stephens, Cole Sciacca, Jordyn Sciacca, Justin Strickland, and Cody Wilson; great-grandchildren, Jace Strickland, and Conner Strickland; sisters, Frances Varnado Griffin, Celia Smith, and Rachel Coggins; and brother, Deloy Smith, Jr.

Dianne is preceded in death by her daughter, Deanna Dianne Strickland, parents, Deloy and Neva Smith, Sr.; cherished aunt, Willie Mae Sumrall; and great-grandson, Karson Husser.

Our church family is happy for the arrival of Renee Josette Cerise.  She weighed 7 pounds and 1 ounce and was 19.5 inches long.  Our church family may think of this child as the great granddaughter of George and Alice Faye Lee and the granddaughter of Brian and Lisa Piner.  One day when the Covid -19 virus is over, we will get to meet this precious gift from God at church.

 

 

 

Juanita “Nita” Russell Miller was diagnosed with the Covid – 19 virus yesterday.  Although Faibra Cade is not her only child, many of you may relate to “Nita” this way.  “Nita” is also  J..C. Miller’s step-mother and a precious lady of 94.  Please be in prayer for this sweet lady.

 

 

 

Eula Lee “Tullie” Cain Dean

November 22, 1932 – April 18, 2020

A resident of Kentwood passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020 at North Oaks Medical Center in Hammond. She was born January 22, 1932 in Kentwood and was 88 years of age. She is survived by her 2 sons, Pascal J. Dean, Jr. and Michael B. Dean, Sr. and wife, Samantha; 2 step-daughters, Priscilla Lynch and husband, Richard, and Ora Ellen Nunnery; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband, Pascal “Pat” Dean, Sr.; parents, James David Cain, Sr. and Susie Easley Cain; sister, Mary Nell Woodard and husband, Virgil; brother, James David “Joe” Cain, Jr. and wife, Martha; grandson, Braden M. Cutrer; and niece, Patricia Woodard Lester. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 2:00PM on Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at Woodland Cemetery, Kentwood. Buddy Morris got home from North Oaks yesterday.  Please continue to pray for him and his family.

 

 

 

One of my first cousins who has Huntington Disease has been having a difficult time lately.  He is hospitalized in NE Louisiana because of an infection, but five of his six children live in Texas.  Pray for Scott Tolleson and his family.

 

 

 

Plan today what church service or services you want to watch tomorrow.  There are many available in our area and across the country.  I been watching some local, and not so local, services.  When I start a new one, David usually recognizes the voice and joins me.
