Good morning. Today we will be recognizing our graduating seniors. Remember to pray for these young women and men as they continue their journey through life.
Also, we will have a Deacon ordination service for Ernest (Joe) Cutrer at 6pm. Ordination council at 4:30 this afternoon in the sanctuary.
As our graduates start to move out on their own, a lesson that I hope that they learn early is this- The little things in life make a big difference. A little of God’s blessings will have an impact of “goodness” in their lives that they can feel and others can see. Unfortunately, the same is true of a little sin. A small seemingly unnoticeable sin entering their lives will have a negative impact that they can feel and others can see. In order to truly be blessed we have to keep all sin at a distance.
Join us at FBC Kentwood this morning for Sunday School at 9:15 followed by Worship at 10:30. Our scripture passage will be Numbers 6:22-27. We will go Facebook Live at 10:30 for those that can’t be here in person.

I hope you will be in church somewhere this morning, but if you can’t, find a good pastor on television, computer, or i-phone.

Thanks go the person who sent a box of beads for use in the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes. Also, thanks to those of you who have contributed plastic Easter eggs for the shoeboxes. Each and every item will go in shoeboxes in the fall. We collect now and pack later. Don’t forget to take the time to check out the items in the tote on the organ. These items represent some of the items we will use this year. You can also contribute by giving to the Operation Christmas Child Fund at church. Marking you envelope “OCC” or “Shoeboxes” is all you have to do.

The weather has been beautiful. We have enjoyed sitting on the patio. Pray for everyone to be able to get out or to look out and enjoy God’s creation.

Please continue to pray for those who have needs. They might be spiritual, physical, emotional, etc.

I’m not sure it happened yesterday, but Brett Frazier was planning, with his doctor’s approval, to go back to work yesterday. I’m thankful for the progress Brett has made and hopeful he will continue to do so.

Sue Ellen Blanchard Carter

May 18, 1943 – April 26, 2019

Sue Ellen Blanchard Carter died peacefully at home on April 26, 2019. She was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on May 18, 1943. She was married to the love of her life, William M. Carter, Sr. for 48 years of what everyone described as the greatest love story that they have ever seen. Sue Carter was a loving wife, caring and supportive Momma, devoted daughter and cherished “Sista”. She was a selfless giver, she gave all she had and never asked for anything in return. She gave her time, her talents, her wisdom, but most of all her heart. She always found the good in everyone, always positive, full of joy with some added spunk. Sue retired from Walmart in Waveland, MS after 21 years of service. She was adored by everyone who knew her and will always be remembered as “Sweet Sue”. We will miss her every single day but knowing that she is at peace is such a comfort. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, William M. Carter, Sr. Parents, Martin O. Blanchard, Jr and Myrtle C. Blanchard of Bay St. Louis, MS. This is the day we honor the death of Jesus on the cross because He gave His life for us. It truly is a Good Friday. I’m thankful I know the “end of the story” and the purpose of the resurrection.

Eggs are a sign of new life. Easter eggs represent the new life we have through Jesus. As your children tire of the plastic eggs this week, if you do not plan to keep them, please bring them to Kentwood First Baptist Church. We would like to give the plastic eggs new life as an item for Operation Christmas Child “shoeboxes“. I will have a large basket at church for the eggs or you can leave them in the church office during the week or in the classroom next to the choir room on a Sunday. Thanks for helping us.

Some of the local churches are having special services today. You may want to check around and attend one.

Sunday, you will have the opportunity to attend sunrise services at Inspiration Park or some of the local churches. I have fond memories of previous sunrise services. I trust you do too. Make a new memory this week.

Sunday, many of our churches will have extra services and special music to celebrate the resurrection. Find you place and join the celebration. Remember, “Up from the Grave He Arose”.

Brett Frazier will have one of the two tests done this morning. The other one cannot be done. Pray this test is the one that will lead the cardiologist in making good decisions about Brett’s care. Pray for Brett as he enters a new week of treatment. Pray for Susan and other family members.

Young Jules Tanksley had a good day yesterday. Thanks to Children’s Hospital in NO for taking good care of many children from our area. Hopefully, Jules’ parents will be bringing her home soon.

Mr. Frank Erwin may be able to leave North Oaks and return home later today. His condition is treatable with medication.

James M. Burch

1931-2019

James M. Burch (Major, Retired, USAF) was born on July 26, 1931, in Liverpool, LA, and passed away Monday, March 11, 2019, at the age of 87. Having grown up on a farm in rural Greensburg, LA, he learned the value of hard work. He was a graduate of Louisiana State University and proudly served our country for more than twenty years in the United States Air Force. He had assignments at Goose Bay Air Base in Newfoundland, Canada, the Republic of China (Taiwan), and Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene, TX, and flew missions in Vietnam during the war. Following his military duty, he began his second career as a federal civil servant working in the United States Department of Labor for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. His final days were spent surrounded by family during a short stay at the Northeast Louisiana Veterans Home. He was a long-time member of Oakcrest Baptist Church and resident of Baton Rouge but most recently lived in Monroe, LA with Jerre, his wife of 51 years. He is also survived by four loving children, Chip Birch (Lisa), Sheree Burch Phifer (Glenn), Mary Burch Mangham (Doug), and Shawna Burch Johnson (Alan). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Trey Birch (Meghan), Travis Phifer (Taylor), Victoria Phifer, Regan Mangham, Emery Johnson, Major Mangham, Reid Johnson, Daniel Birch; and two great-grandchildren, James Birch and Cindy Birch. He is also survived by five sisters, Barbara McDaniel, Jane Duncan, Grace Helen Williams, Cheryl Scott and Beverly Easley. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Sarah Birch; parents, Clifton and Rena Burch; sister, Carolyn Easley; and brothers, Jack Burch Sr., Donald Ray Burch and Percy Dean Burch.
